Tommy Served with 3 PPCLI and 1 PPCLI. I served with him in both units. In April 1994, Tommy was driving an Iltis (Jeep) when he hit an anti-tank mine. The mine strike severed both of his legs below the knee, and blinded his left eye. For 29 years, Tommy has struggled with Veterans Affairs, and Blue cross to receive the services he needs to live his life. To this day, Tommy has to prove that his legs have not grown back, and his eye is still blind. We must do better. Here is his story, told in full for the first time. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tango-romeo/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/tango-romeo/support

In 2023 state legislatures across the South and Midwest have introduced over 400 bills attacking trans adults, trans kids, and drag queens. This legislative session in West Virginia saw the introduction of more than 15 anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ bills. On Thursday March 9th, 2023 trans organizers held a rally at the Capitol Building in Charleston, WV in protest of House Bill 2007 which would enforce a total ban on gender affirming care for minors in the state. Over 100 people packed the upper level of the capitol building to protest outside the Senate Chambers where the bill was being discussed. In this episode you'll hear interviews with organizers and attendees of the rally, and audio from a powerful afternoon of queer and trans rage, grief, joy, and laughter in the heart of a state often ignored by the national left. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * This episode talks about suicide. I had the pleasure of speaking with Tommy Anderson recently. I met him a few weeks ago at an event honoring the late Paul Sorvino. Tommy was Army/Air Force, and currently an actor, writer, author, filmmaker and podcaster. He joined the military (Army) after high school. He went transferred from the Army to the Air Force – I didn't know you could do that! He was a medic, and after a firefighter. What doesn't he do? We'll be honest. We were trying to watch Exit Wounds, the Andrzej Bartkowiak directed movie starring DMX, Anthony Anderson, Tom Arnold, and Steven Seagal. Somehow we mixed it up with Cradle 2 the Grave, directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak starring DMX, Anthony Anderson, Tom Arnold, and JET LI. We're considering it an upgrade. Anthony Fait (DMX) is a friendly jewel thief who steals from rich jerks and doesn't use guns. With his crew Daria (Gabrielle Union), Tommy (Anderson), and Odion (Michael Jace), they break in somewhere and steal some mysterious black diamonds. Su (Li) calls Anthony and wants those stones. X won't give it to him (what?) he won't give it to him. So Su beats up Odion in a subway. Weirdly, Su turns out to be a good guy, because he's trying to protect the stones from the evil Ling (Marc Dacascos), who steals Anthony's daughter, which requires an MMA cage fight, backroom striptease, ATV street chase, and tank attack to get her and the stones back.

September 11, 2019 - Tommy Anderson
A grand jury indicted a Harris County Sheriff’s Office sergeant Thursday for making a firearm accessible to his young stepson, who was wounded after he shot himself, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced. In July 2018, while Sgt. Tommy Anderson was on a walk with his daughter, his four-year-old stepson opened the door of Anderson’s unlocked gun safe. The young child shot himself in the head with the handgun, which did not have a safety, and was left loaded. It was not Anderson’s duty weapon. “This case is heartbreaking for all involved,” Ogg said. “With gun ownership comes tremendous responsibility. We must properly secure our firearms.” Assistant District Attorney Gilbert Sawtelle presented the case to a grand jury, which determined that a criminal charge was warranted. “This is a tragedy, but a reminder to us all that gun safety is of the utmost importance, especially with children in the home.” The charge, Making a Firearm Accessible to a Child, is a Class A Misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail. The case was investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newsnowbaytown/support

Notes: THE SKINBOARD was collected from Tommy Anderson of Brasstown, NC in 1967. It was The Skinboard and On a Saturday One Spring of this collection which started this compiler on a search for additional dog tales. Tommy was raised in Green Cove not far from Dog Branch where the local saying is “There are more Greens on Dog Branch than dogs in Green Cove.” I have subsequently heard The Skinboard tale many times in North Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia. The epilogue about finding the dog in Kentucky was made up on the spot by Bill Sparks of Paint Lick, Kentucky about 1976 as we swapped tales in route to a country dance engagement in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Notes: ON A SATURDAY ONE SPRING was collected from Tommy Anderson of Brasstown, NC in 1967 (see also episode 1. THE SKINBOARD). I have not heard this tale from other sources.
