Through her determination, Lia Key built a successful jewelry business and now has the perspective she can share with us all.    Lia lost three beautiful souls early in her life, and each of them taught her something she carries with her today. Her mother gave her the insight to know you aren't tied to your circumstances and your predicament doesn't determine your destiny. Her aunt taught her how to light up a room. Her grandmother taught her poise and understanding that she is deserving to walk with wonderful people. These losses could either make or break her, and she decided she would live with them within her. Now, she pours their legacy onto others, adopting their mission as her own through Valencia Key Jewelry. Valencia is defined as strong or brave, whereas key is defined as Crucial Importance or to Unlock. These are the values Lia underpins in her work.   Lia's advice for those striving to start their business or pursue their dream is not to give up everything–some people have families, mouths to feed, and other priorities. Instead, you may just need to lose a little extra sleep to make that dream happen.    Everything starts in the heart. You have to know your ‘why' and what drives you, where your passions are, and what will keep you going. You don't have to get up and move on like it never happened–in fact, you should keep that with you, Lia says. But get back up even if your head is low. Even deeper, think about what you really want to give the world. What do you want to offer?   Business is all about how you're making someone feel. It could be a service or a product, but look at what you provide and consider the work it does and how to makes your client feel. Then, think about why people may feel that. Then take it deeper–how does it change that person's life?   Lia's tip for business owners is to get your books in order. Understand what your “books” are, where your money is going, and how you're running your business. Otherwise, you have a hobby. Secondly, think as if your business is already huge. EP 19: How Lia Valencia Key Went from an Impoverished Childhood to Launching her Line of Hand Designed Jewelry on QVC   In Episode 19, we have a conversation with Lia Valencia Key, the CEO and designer of Valencia Key Jewelry.    CONVERSATION: Angela explains how she first encountered Lia while watching Jamie Kern Lima's Believe It book launch and Lia's presence gave her a personal “representation matters” moment.   Lia takes us through her experience speaking at the Believe It book launch.  She reminds us that when God gives us opportunities, it's because you are already ready. To prepare for this day, Lia asked God to give her a message that people really need. When it was her time to take the stage, nerves kicked in but Lia was able to look down at her Valencia Key “Love Check”, “Joy Check” and “Peace Check” bracelets and be reminded to go out there and pour love, Joy, and peace into the world.   Lia takes us on her journey from being homeless in Philadelphia as a child through the many transitions that brought her to the present day.  Lia's mother gave her a pair of earrings and told her to never leave the house without her earrings because they represent the light within you.  Her mother's words planted a seed that connected her to the power of beautiful images and symbols that radiate.   Lia began to sketch pictures of jewelry as a hobby. She was working as a hair and make-up professional when she met Jamie Kern Lima (It Cosmetics) and Vicky Tsai (Tatcha Beauty) who took her under their wings.  She had the opportunity to see how the two of them were offering their gifts to the world and she began to see and understand her own gift, and the possibility of her jewelry.   Lia explains how she uses her own life to create the jewelry designs.  She looks at some challenging moments to identify how she made it through those times.
