While talking about her background, Samantha explains that she has been programming since she was 8, and realized that she was dyslexic while learning Angular, as it is an abstract framework where a bunch of things happen at the backend. Keeping in mind the struggles faced by dyslexic learners, she, along with her mother Bonnie, decided to start the course — Angular for the Visual Learner, where they use visual methods such as pictures and 3D animation in order to overcome the learning challenges. Further in the show, they discuss how to detect if a person is dyslexic and also do an interesting demonstration of the “Cake test” on Joe, a test which helps in the identification of dyslexia. The panelists discuss what it actually means to have dyslexia while dispelling some common myths associated with it. Samantha and Bonnie explain what a trigger word means and give details about ng-club, a fun initiative for kids to learn programming, and Blockly, a library for adding drag and drop block coding to an application. They also talk about using these visual tools from the perspective of non-dyslexic people, different learning techniques prevalent today, and the current education system. This mail I wrote today that I used as an outline for today´s episode: Are you also a visual learner, not sure if podcasting is for you. I used to do so as well… Is everything coming out a mess when you try to explain things without pictures or paper. How is it possible to make presentations without screwing up? If you are podcasting it is easy. Write a mail like this one and use as a template for your next episode. All blogposts that you have made are prime material for a podcast. If you are performing live on Facebook or other platforms, have the outline of your material in a powerpoint/keynote or similar program at you screen while you are on camera. Have a mouse in your hand to change slides. And be close to the camera and look at your audience and you will be fine. Best part of it is, the outline makes sure that you never get lost. But to do so, you need to get yourself out there. The first few tries on podcasting will be horrible, but that is good. If you start out being to good it will feel unauthentic. So follow my example and put yourself out there. If a swede with a heavy accent and no prior training being on air can do this… So can you… I hope to see as many of you as possible following my example. If you can help just one person it will be totally worth it.

Who? Hugh and I are licensed landscape architects who migrated in 1997 to Cashiers in the western North Carolina mountains. LIttle Dovecote needed everything.  Forget it serving as our office HQ; we enjoyed this historic 1929 farmhouse so much that it became our permanent home.  The best part about Dovecote is its context: the quaint, small and historic domestic structure, unused barn, future sculpture meadow and woodland path to the lake.  Where?  Many of our podcasts are live events. Each summer season, we host Friday lectures at Dovecote Gardens, our organic teaching gardens.
