Ask Rachel anythingExam stress — are your teen's exams quietly overwhelming them (and you)?In this episode of Teenagers Untangled I spoke with Katherine Radice, author of The Parent's Guide to Exam Stress, to explore:* Why teens withdraw and how parental questions can shut down conversations about school* What makes exams uniquely stressful (risk, public outcomes, long timelines)* How parents can build calm, constructive conversations and listen so teens feel safe to share* Practical strategies: establishing effective work habits, rewarding effort vs. outcomes, scaffolding responsibility, and iterative trial-and-review methods for study* Handling struggles: when to improve school support vs. when to build strengths outside school (hobbies, status, resilience)* The “burden of praise” and how to praise in ways that empower rather than create anxiety* Managing parental anxiety: how to consult teens, stay reflective, and help them learn to cope with uncertainty and setbacksWhy it's vital to listen:Exams affect more than grades — they shape teens' confidence, relationships, and long-term coping skills. This episode gives us evidence-based, compassionate tools to support teens without becoming the “revision police,” reduce household stress, and help young people develop resilience that lasts beyond exam results.Contact Katharine:https://katharineradice.co.uk/Support the showPlease hit the follow button if you like the podcast, and share it with anyone who might benefit. Ask Rachel anythingIt's exam season and so important to keep a steady ship with all of the stress in the house. I thought it would be a great time to interrupt my youngest, Amelia, for an honest chat about what she sees as both good and bad strategies for supporting teenagers through exams, and homework; particularly those with dyslexia and ADHD. We wanted to give parents hope, an honest insight into how bumpy the road can become, and how long it can take to figure out what the best way of supporting your teen will be.Over the past six months at her new college, Amelia has really found her feet and feels motivated to work very hard. This is helped enormously by feeling she matters to friends, loving the college she is at, and receiving proper ADHD support and intervention. She shares her previous struggles with homework and motivation, attributing it to a lack of emphasis on academics and being placed in less academically focused classes, but also made clear how important it is to take time to understand underlying issues rather than assuming laziness. Amelia advises against nagging, focusing on long-term goals, and providing structure without micromanaging. Listen to the end to hear Amelia's important, very spontaneous, message for all parents listening to this podcast. As usual, my girls prefer not to be on camera, so this is an audio-only episode.OTHER EPISODES:Helping kids with exam nervesTips for parenting through the pressure of examsTrust your kidsBoys who're apathetic about study and examsWhy school exam systems need to changeHow anxiety works and what we can doFind the top tips here: Support the showPlease hit the follow button if you like the podcast, and share it with anyone who might benefit. Parenting Anxious Teens | Parenting Teens, Managing Teen Anxiety, Parenting Strategies
Hi Parents! What if the secret to helping your anxious teen feel more confident at school wasn't pushing harder or doing more, but teaching them how to study in a way that works for them? In today's episode, I'm joined by Jessyka Coulter, CEO and Founder of Ace Cookie Tutoring and the creator of The NERDY Method. Jessyka shares how intentional study skills can transform a teen's mindset, build confidence, and reduce academic anxiety. We explore why so many teens don't love to learn, what actually gets in their way, and how study habits rooted in strategy and support can shift everything. More about Jessyka: She's a passionate educator and teen study skills coach who teaches teens how to study smarter, not harder, so they can learn to love learning again. Her work is all about equipping students with the tools they need to thrive and helping parents feel more supported along the way. Plus, we talk about Jessyka's upcoming event, Learn It! Open Your Teen's Mind and Feed It, a free back-to-school series launching August 4th. Reformed Brotherhood | Sound Doctrine, Systematic Theology, and Brotherly Love
In this episode of The Reformed Brotherhood, Tony Arsenal takes listeners on a deep dive into the art and purpose of effective note-taking, particularly within the context of Christian living and theological study. With Jesse absent for this episode, Tony explores practical techniques to help Christians retain, process, and apply what they read, whether it be from Scripture, theological works, or even secular writings. Highlighting his own personal process, Tony emphasizes the importance of reading with intention and grounding all study in the ultimate goal of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever. The episode details Tony's structured note-taking process, which includes reading with a clear purpose, capturing highlights, organizing thoughts systematically, and reviewing and reusing notes for practical outcomes. He emphasizes the importance of using tools that work for the individual, whether digital platforms like Obsidian markdown or analog methods like commonplace books. The central theme throughout is that note-taking is not just about acquiring knowledge, but about using that knowledge to reflect God's glory in everyday life. Tony also ties the practice of note-taking to theological principles, referencing the Westminster Catechism's teaching that every action should aim to glorify God. He challenges listeners to examine their own study habits and consider how they can better use what they learn to serve their families, churches, and communities. Whether through teaching Sunday school, sharing the faith with children, or preparing sermons, the episode demonstrates how intentional note-taking can enhance spiritual growth and equip believers for ministry. Key Points: The Purpose of Note-Taking: Note-taking is not an end in itself but a means to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. It helps Christians reflect on and apply what they learn in practical ways. Tony's Note-Taking Process: A step-by-step guide that includes reading with intention, highlighting key insights, organizing notes with tags, and reviewing them regularly for reuse. Tools and Techniques: Recommendations for using tools like Obsidian markdown or analog methods, emphasizing flexibility and personalization in developing a system that works. Practical Applications: The importance of using notes for teaching, sermon preparation, family devotions, and theological discussions, making knowledge actionable and impactful. Theological Foundations: Connecting note-taking to the broader Christian life, including meditating on Scripture and theological works as a means of sanctification. Questions for Reflection: How does your current note-taking process help you retain and apply what you read? In what ways can you ensure that your study habits glorify God and enhance your enjoyment of Him? What tools or methods could you adopt to make your note-taking more effective and organized? How can you use what you learn to serve your church, family, or community more effectively? What intentions or goals should you set before starting your next reading or study session?
In this episode of the AI in Education Podcast, hosts Ray and Dan kick off Series 12 with a powerful focus on students—how they learn, what they need, and how AI is shaping their academic journeys. Joining them is Nina Huntemann, Chief Academic Officer at Chegg, who shares revealing insights from Chegg.org's 2025 Global Student Survey, which polled over 11,000 students across 15 countries. Nina dives into how students are turning to generative AI tools like ChatGPT more than their professors, not out of laziness but to fill gaps in clarity, access, and support. The trio explores the need for AI that's student-specific - not just curriculum-aligned - and the importance of pedagogical design in educational tech. They also tackle key issues of equity, mental health, and the real-world skills students want for future workplaces. Discover how studying the Bible through the lens of language, grammar, historical context, and genre can lead to sermons that nourish and transform. Mike also highlights the value of consulting multiple Bible translations and offers practical tips for interpreting Scripture through a gospel-centered, doctrinally sound lens. Whether you're a seasoned expositor or just starting out, this session is packed with insights to help you teach the Word with depth, clarity, and life-changing impact.
