Diagnosed with dermatomyositis in 2016, Karen Alexander, a top high fashion model for two decades, has become a powerful advocate for those living with this rare, debilitating condition. Using her platform, she tirelessly raises awareness about the urgent need for better diagnosis, treatment, and care for women of color who are disproportionately affected by myositis. With a career spanning over four decades, Karen broke barriers for Black women in the fashion industry, gracing the covers of prestigious magazines like Vogue and Elle, and working with iconic brands such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Chanel. Now, she channels that same passion into advocating for her “myositis sisters,” emphasizing the importance of increasing diversity in clinical trials, educating healthcare providers about health disparities, and reducing diagnosis times. Myositis refers to a group of rare, chronic, and incurable neuromuscular diseases that cause muscles to become weak, painful, and tired. The disease can affect not only muscles but also the skin, lungs, and heart, leading to severe and potentially life-threatening complications. Women of color, particularly African American women, are more likely to develop severe forms of myositis and face higher mortality rates than their white counterparts. They also experience challenges in diagnosis due to symptoms like unusual rashes and muscle weakness, which may not be easily recognized on darker skin tones.

You can listen to the full episode (filled with more wisdom) here: Episode 59: Intersectionality And How It Influences The Experiences And Resources of Minority Female Founders. Key Discussion Points: 01:00 Pitching to Investors as a Female Entrepreneur of Color: Pitching to an audience that doesn't understand your problem is not a disadvantage rather, it sets you up as an expert. 04:38 Promotion vs. Prevention Focused Pitch Questions: Women often get asked prevention focused questions in pitches that don't put them in positions of power. We need to be able to reframe the questions so they are more promotion focused. 06:58 Relating to Potential Investors: Storytelling is a key element to a successful pitch. Try to tell the story from a perspective that your audience will understand and relate to. 09:27 Finding the Right Investors: You don't want someone who is constantly questioning your expertise and who doesn't trust you as an investor. Rather focus your energy on the right investors. In Summary: Janine Vanessa Heinrich challenges us to own our expertise, strategically frame our pitch, and select the right investors who believe in and trust us. She encourages us to turn prevention-focused questions into promotion-focused answers, ensuring a position of strength. What can we learn from the incredible journeys of women of color running for major leadership roles? In this episode of Women of Color Rise, I had the honor of speaking with Dianne Morales, Founder of StillRising, who is dedicated to helping organizations drive real impact for marginalized communities. Named a "Latina of Influence” by Hispanic Lifestyle, Dianne brings over 20 years of leadership in education, social justice, and equity—and was formerly CEO of Phipps Neighborhood. Dianne shared her powerful experience running for NYC Mayor in 2021 and the key lessons she learned: Representation matters: Though initially hesitant to run, Dianne knew that having someone from her community in a seat of power was critical. Claim your power: You don't have to wait to be chosen. We can decide to step up and go for those top roles ourselves. Political power is key to real change: If we want to shift systems and advance equity and justice, gaining political power is part of the journey. Use the system while challenging it: There's a tension in working within existing structures while also trying to transform them. Speak your truth: Dianne wishes she had been more vocal during the campaign when her identity was under attack. She now recognizes the importance of standing firm in who you are. Thank you, Dianne, for sharing your story and for your courage in standing up for your community. Your journey is a powerful reminder of what it means to step out, speak up, and lead with purpose. #Leadership #Equity #WomenOfColorRise #Education #Inspiration Get full show notes and more information here: https://analizawolf.com/ep-88-running-for-change-a-woman-of-colors-nyc-mayoral-bid-with-dianne-morales-founder-of-stillrising

Part one of my Q2 review covered everything up until May 13th. Today, I will explain everything that happened that day and after that. On May 13th, I learned about the real meaning of God's Kingdom, and this new understanding forever changed my day-to-day life and business. These revelations are beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I will return with a segment dedicated to my revelations on The Kingdom and how to apply Kingdom Principles to your business. Then, I attended a conference where I saw an entire stage full of millionaires with brown skin just like me. My belief set shifted to one of abundance, and that conference changed my beliefs about what was possible.Next, I was featured on Sarah Jakes Roberts' podcast and felt so connected on my journey with her I was called to do something that has weighed heavy on my mind since losing my mother.Q2 was a season of CEO-level decisions, but most importantly, it helped me understand God's Kingdom. This transformation has had a resounding impact on my business and personal life.I have always said that my business is my ministry, and that feels more real than ever. The episode is live on your favorite podcast platforms.SJR PODCAST LINKS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/access-power-w-dr-kimmy-reynolds/id1316294579?i=1000660299483https://www.womanevolve.tv/woman-evolve-podcast#podcast #newepisode #dcspodcastLet's Connect: On Instagram On Facebook On LinkedIn On TikTok On my website

It's time to reflect on Q2. Today's episode is part one of my April, May, and June recap. It was a season of CEO-level decisions. From simplifying my business structure to attaining significant goals, I share the milestone moments in my business.I started Q2 on a retreat in Bali, where I attained the incredible goal of time freedom. I was able to coach from halfway across the globe because I wanted to, not because I needed to. That freedom is why I left medicine and why I am an entrepreneur. Then, a few shakeups left me reorganizing the business. I simplified to become more efficient by cutting team members but adding specialists.I stretched myself and put myself out there in a vulnerable way. The result: I was invited to be on Sarah Jakes Roberts' podcast. Finally, right before I left for the Audacious Retreat, God led me to listen to a particular sermon, and I discovered the Kingdom of God. Everything changed. It blew my brain up in the best way possible.Tune in next week to hear my revelations and learn how genuinely understanding the Kingdom of God has impacted every aspect of my life and business. The episode is live on your favorite podcast platforms.#podcast #newepisode #dcspodcastLet's Connect: On Instagram On Facebook On LinkedIn On TikTok On my website
God's best work is a strategy that you can use over and over again. As humans, we pray to God for miracles in our business. He can and will bless you with abundance, but God wants a cycle, not a singular success.Today, I share a story about how God showed up in my business recently. I prayed and fasted for one specific manifestation. When I didn't receive that exact blessing, I became frustrated and felt abandoned by Him.But then, God guided me to understand that He had answered my prayer with a strategy. He reminded me that everything He does in my business is for His Glory, not mine. God is a God of systems and prophecies. He is a God of strategy. So, when we look to God to deliver a miracle for our business, we have to remember that the miracle is in the strategy. Tune in to hear God's lesson for me about His fruitful blessings.Let's Connect: On Instagram On Facebook On LinkedIn On TikTok On my website
