Over the course of Ms. Perryman's legal career, which has spanned nearly two decades, she has served in litigation roles at two global law firms, as a general counsel and chief legal officer, and in non-profit organizations. Ms. Perryman has represented clients across a broad range of industries, including in the healthcare, financial services, technology, education, consumer products, and non-profit sectors. Ms. Perryman's work has been recognized widely for its positive impact on people and communities. She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her commitment to public service and her professional work, including being named a Harry S. All told, Democracy Forward brought more than 100 legal actions against the prior administration for abuses of power, stopping harmful policies and improving the lives of millions. Following the events of January 6, 2021, Democracy Forward expanded the scope and reach of its work to address anti-democratic activity across the nation, including countering the work of far-right legal organizations who are seeking to reverse our nation's progress. It has taken more than 700+ actions and works alongside more than 400+ clients and partners, filing cases across a range of issues, including those that advance reproductive health care, protect the freedom to read, defend civil rights, and preserve crucial checks and balances in our system of government. Under Ms. Perryman's leadership, Democracy Forward has emerged as a leader in unmasking Project 2025 - an effort backed by more than 100 far-right organizations to enable a future anti-democratic presidential administration to take swift action to roll back our rights and freedoms, and hurt the American people. Ms. Perryman grew up in Waco, Texas and is a proud product of K-12 public education. Welcome to the A Bit Of A Boost Burnout Series!   This is a topic I've explored on the podcast before, and one that comes up regularly in coaching sessions, workshops and conversations with high performing professionals.   What's become clear is that it doesn't just suddenly hit you. It creeps up, gets normalised and isn't always easy to spot until it's too late.   In this series I'm sharing real conversations with people who've experienced burnout firsthand.   Not the theories or frameworks, but the personal stories of what happened.   How it felt, what was going on at the time, the contributing factors, and the signs that were missed, that in hindsight seem so obvious.   We also explore what people learned from the experience, and the changes they made to avoid ending up in the same place again.   You may recognise yourself in parts of these stories. Either because they echo your own experience, or reflect something you're going through right now.   My next guest in this series is James Perryman, a leadership development consultant with a corporate background in the telecommunications industry.   In this conversation, James shares her personal experience of burnout - the physical symptoms he noticed before a doctor eventually told him what was happening, and how he has found better work life balance with a set of non-negotiable practices.   You can find out more about James or connect with him via LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jamesperryman1

Across generations, birth workers have held space for families with skill, love, and deep purpose. In this episode, Dr. Rebecca Dekker talks with Elder Midwife Charlotte Shilo-Goudeau, a licensed Certified Professional Midwife from Louisiana, and Chanté Perryman, Director of Programs at Evidence Based Birth®, certified doula, and student midwife. Together, they explore what it means to embrace the dual calling of doula work and midwifery and how both roles are acts of service, advocacy, and healing.   Elder Charlotte shares her journey from personal loss to becoming one of only a few Black midwives in Louisiana, carrying forward the wisdom of generations. Tennessee Attorney General Skrmetti called Memphis Morning News' Ditch & Tim with his response to the county Mayor's lawsuit to stop the Tennessee Guard from being deployed in Memphis as part of the Memphis Safe Task Force. The question remains - who is paying for this lawsuit? If the taxpayers didn't ask for it to be filed on their behalf, then who get's the bill from the lawyers representing Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris, Commissioner Erika Sugarmon, Commissioner Henri Brooks, City Councilman JB Smiley Jr. , Representative GA Hardaway, Representative Gabby Salinas and Senator Jeff Yarbro. Skye Perryman of Democracy Forward argued this case for the plaintiffs. It's clear that this Labour Government are in a bit of trouble. Already floundering in the polls off the back of a year in which their promise of 'change' in 2024 hasn't lived up to expectations, they have now been rocked by a series of scandals and resignations - Angela Rayner, Peter Mandelson, Paul Ovenden - that are undermining Sir Keir Starmer's Premiership. With a Deputy Leadership contest now being seen as an internal referendum on the leadership, the 2025 Party Conference is set to be one to keep your eye on.To that end, the release of Mark Perryman's new book, 'The Starmer Symptom', couldn't have come at a more opportune time. The Starmer Symptom brings together leading political writers to navigate the complex terrain of this seismic shift in British politics. This unique collection analyses voter data, and looks at the break-up of the two-party system with the rise of a populist right in Reform UK and a new independent left. Will Keir Starmer's government be able to successfully combine the pragmatic and social democratic to produce radical change? And if not, who is waiting in the wings?Perryman sits down with Compass Director Neal Lawson, who contributed a chapter to the book. Other contributors include Clive Lewis, Danny Dorling, Emma Burnell, Gargi Bhattacharyya, James Meadway, Hilary Wainwright, Jeremy Gilbert, Phil Burton-Cartledge, and Yasmin Alibhai-Brown.Special Offer for Compass Members and Supporters: ‘The Starmer Symptom' for JUST £11.89 (usual price £16.99). Buckle up. You're about to enter into the ether of a zen-like, hypnotic flow conversation with a +2 handicap index golfer who recently won his club tournament - at 54 years of age. Meet Jesse Perryman - a competitive amateur golfer, father of five, with a deep-rooted fascination of psychology (alongside a degree in it) and the host of the Flaghunters Golf Podcast. He's been golfing for over 40 years, including three years as a Division I golfer, alongside multiple tournament trophies. Jesse has an eerily similar and unique view about harnessing the power of your subconscious mind to play your best golf. In today's episode, you'll learn: The importance of setting intentions before a round, being present in the moment, and getting out of your comfort zone. The need to embrace nerves and doubts as part of the human experience and use them as a guide for growth.  The concept of the pie chart, which includes technical skills, physical well-being, and the mental game as key components of improvement.  Why ever golfer - no matter their handicap - should enter tournaments as soon as possible. How - and why - to practice passionate acceptance about their natural fear and nervousness on the course.  The importance of accepting where you are in your golf game to facilitate growth. Get your pencils ready and start listening.  P.S. Please excuse the audio on my end - I lost my voice that week and barely held it together for the conversation.  Connect with Jesse Host of The Flaghunters Golf Podcast Twitter/X: @podflag  > > > If you enjoy Jesse and I riffing (we've talked for HOURS), you can catch two more hours of conversation between the two of us discussing all things mindset on his show here: Conquering Self-Sabotage on the Golf Course with Paul Salter Achieving Flow State in Golf and Life with Paul Salter Key Takeaways: Setting intentions before a round can help golfers relax and alleviate stress. Being present in the moment is crucial for optimal performance on the golf course. Getting out of your comfort zone, such as playing in tournaments, can lead to significant growth and improvement. Embracing nerves and doubts is part of the human experience and can serve as a guide for progress. The pie chart concept highlights the importance of technical skills, physical well-being, and the mental game in golf improvement. Accept fear and nervousness as part of the game and embrace the energy in your body. Simulate tournament conditions in practice to prepare for competitive rounds. Play the golf course in your mind to develop the right mindset for playing your best. Meditation can help cultivate mental resilience and the ability to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Accept where you are in your golf game to facilitate growth and improvement. Key Quotes: "You need to be able to remember it under duress or if you're starting to go the other way, you're going to play well because I can guarantee your listeners that listen to this podcast, Paul, that if they do that, they will supersede their expectations during the course of the round." "When you can, when you start whatever that practice is, whether it's meditation, whether it's yoga, whether it's breath work, whatever it is, chanting, I don't care. Scottie Shephler's single greatest asset he has in his game right now is his ability to be in the present moment." "Your pie chart is in motion. It's in motion. You have the basics. Hey man, I want you to get up and work out every day or get some movement in your body. That's going to be huge because a stiff golf swing is not going to lend itself to fluidity of mind." "Whether you make this or you miss it, you're not going to die. So just get up and hit the damn thing." "What you resist persists." "Use one ball. Don't use three balls. Don't use a sleeve. Just use one ball." Subscribe to the More Pars Than Bogeys Newsletter.
