The 100% Guilt-Free Self-Care podcast is a truly insightful and inspiring show that has had a profound impact on my life. Through listening to this podcast, I have gained a deeper understanding of myself and others, allowing me to navigate my relationships with more empathy and understanding. Tami, the host of the show, has created a warm and inviting space for learning, making it easy to engage with the content and apply it to my own life.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is Tami's voice and persona. She exudes warmth and positivity, creating an environment that feels safe and welcoming. Her emphasis on self-care as a day-to-day activity that should be integrated into our lives is refreshing and empowering. She provides practical tools and advice for implementing self-care practices, making them accessible to everyone regardless of their level of experience or knowledge in the area.

Another great aspect of this podcast is its ability to inspire positive change. Through listening to Tami's episodes, I have been able to implement tangible actions in my daily life that have had a ripple effect on my family. Whether you are just starting your self-care journey or have been practicing for years, this podcast offers valuable insights and guidance that can help you make positive changes in your life.

Furthermore, Tami's honesty and relatability as a 45-year-old mom resonates with me deeply. As a mother of two teenagers, self-care is essential but often neglected. Tami's practical self-care remedies are easy to incorporate into everyday life, making it easier for busy mothers like me to prioritize our well-being.

While there are many positives about The 100% Guilt-Free Self-Care podcast, one potential downside may be the vocal fry of some guests. However, this small issue does not detract from the overall quality of the content or Tami's hosting abilities.

In conclusion, I highly recommend The 100% Guilt-Free Self-Care podcast. Tami's knowledge and wisdom are incredibly helpful in day-to-day life, providing insights and guidance that can lead to positive changes. This podcast is a valuable resource for anyone looking to prioritize self-care, improve their well-being, and live a more authentic and fulfilling life.

Everyone I have met recently is in the 38-48 year range and that got me thinking about how much my life has changed for the better since my late 30s.   At 39 I started blogging. At 40 I started teaching yoga. At 41 I became a mama. At 42 learned about invisible labor, domestic load & inequity in marriage At 43 I resigned from teaching school and dove into teaching restorative yoga At 44 I was a caregiver to my mom post stroke and my preschooler. At 45 I hosted several yoga retreats. At 46 I went back to school for my Life + Work Coaching Certification. At 47 I started speaking on stages about self-care At 48 I got paid to speak on stage. Show notes: https://www.tamihackbarth.com/blog/episode-261 My mom died 10 years ago today. We weren't close, but she was my biggest cheerleader. The older I get the more I understand who she was and how much of the time in history she was born into really shaped who she got to be.   My mom couldn't wear pants to her segregated school, got married at 20 and had her first child at 21. I came along right before she was 25. She was on the younger side of average at the time, but was relieved to be out of her parent's house.   In the early 1960s women then didn't have a lot of choices. Options for work were secretarial work, nurse, teacher or domestic labor. None were high paying. Women couldn't even get a checking account without a male co-signer until 1974.   I tell you all of this because my mom wanted my life to be different than hers. She wanted me to get my education, find a career of my own choice, be able to support myself, not have kids too early and to not get married unless it was a partnership.   She used to say, “Don't do what I did”.   I used to joke with her that I wouldn't because her life in a lot of ways was truly awful.   As I've gotten older I have asked a lot more questions: Were the choices my mom made personal failings or choosing from a limited amount of crappy options?+ If she'd been born in a different era would she have led a different life? Would she have waited to return to college after marriage and kids or would she have gone straight through like me? Would she have gotten married or even had kids? Would she have gotten divorced? Would she have gotten the mental health treatment she needed after having a traumatic childhood?  This week on the podcast I am sharing 10 Lessons I Learned From My Mom.

Are you waiting until you have enough experience or go back to school? Are you worried you'll get it wrong? I hear these fears all the time from women. They want to do something that makes a difference in the world and they get stuck because the little voice in their head telling stories about why now isn't the right time, they aren't the right person and they stay stuck in the loop of inaction. This week on the podcast I am sharing a very special interview with someone who didn't wait to be picked - Liz Minella. I first was introduced to Liz when she hosted the Women Wednesdays calls during the Harris campaign. I knew she was someone I could learn from so I started following her on Instagram. Needless to say I am a fan and wanted to know more about how she got her start. So I asked her to be a guest on the podcast and it confirmed she has a lot to teach us about how to use what we have to move our values and issues forward today.  Liz Minnella is a mom, fundraiser and Instagram demfluencer. She gained an audience on Instagram following the Fourth of July shooting in Highland Park by posting short actionable steps for fellow activists to take to advance gun violence prevention legislation and she helped lead the grassroots push to pass the IL Assault Weapons Ban.  During the 2024 election cycle, she hit her stride organizing and activating everyday people to use their power and influence to make change. She founded Chicago Women for Harris and co-organized and MCd White Women: Answer the call, which broke Zoom with over 200,000 viewers.  She served as the Finance Co-chair of Women for Harris and raised tens of millions of dollars for the Harris campaign. She held weekly Women Wednesdays for Harris Zoom calls and organized door knocking trips across the battleground states.  Her work was featured in a front page article in the New York Times and on CNN in the days following the election. She recently founded Connect Forward an organization dedicated to funding and facilitating a new media ecosystem for liberal voices. She is also host of Demfluenced, a podcast focused on the intersection of social media and politics.  In other words, Liz didn't wait to be picked. She doesn't have any special training. She doesn't have a background in the field. She has an Instagram account and a passion for gun safety. In our interview she shared with me how she got her start and her plan to change how Democrats use social media to create change.

Show notes: https://www.tamihackbarth.com/blog/episode-244 This week has been a lot. Sunday morning I found myself unexpectedly crying for three hours trying to figure out why I felt so overwhelmed even though everyone in my family was doing so much invisible work. Things I discovered included that I had extroverted way too hard, that all things on a to do list do not carry the same emotional weight and  my hate of 90+ degree weather was still very much felt. Monday couldn't come soon enough. Thankfully I was able to connect with a kindred spirit to talk all about fresh starts. I definitely needed one.  I love a do over more than most people because do overs are how I keep going in life. Olivia Dreizen Howell and her sister Jenny started a divorce registry three years ago when they both were in the midst of life changing break ups. When I first heard this concept I couldn't believe someone hadn't thought of it before. It makes so much sense! We shower brides and babies with gifts marking a new life transition, but what about all of the other life transitions: divorce, death, graduation, job loss.  In today's world of marrying later and cohabitation before marriage it seems like a lot of people go from one toaster as a single person to two toasters as a couple to one toaster during cohabitation or marriage to NO toaster when you split up. I'm just saying that the time we need a new toaster is likely not at the beginning of a marriage, but rather at the end.  I knew I had to interview the brains behind this brilliant idea and also the woman who started that national conversation around women having privacy in the voting booth. If you've spent any time online where people are talking about post it notes in the bathroom encouraging Republican women to cross party lines to vote for Kamala Harris because that you vote is public, but who you vote for is private then you've seen Olivia's viral idea in the wild. In this week's episode I am sharing my conversation with Olivia about Fresh Starts, Voting Without Fear and how self-care is often the first thing to go when you are changing the world. In case you haven't yet met… Olivia Dreizen Howell is Co-Founder and CEO of Fresh Starts Registry, a clinical hypnotherapist, neuro linguistic practitioner, certified life coach, and single mom.   After her 2019 divorce, Olivia noticed that while society celebrates weddings and babies with registries, there's little support for moments when people truly need to rebuild their lives, like divorce or job loss. This realization led her, alongside her sister Jenny Dreizen, to create Fresh Starts Registry, the first and only platform that helps people through life transitions by offering both expert guidance and essential home items. She is also the co-founder of the Vote Without Fear Platform, dedicated to empowering Americans to vote safely.   With a strong background in marketing and communications, Olivia has worked on global campaigns and TV shows, founded March Lion Media, and led social media efforts for brands, celebrities and TV shows. Since founding Fresh Starts, she co-hosts and produces A Fresh Story podcast and has written over 250 scripts to support people through life changes.   Olivia has been featured in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, and more. She's also the founder of YentaList, a job-posting site, and uses her platform to support single parents, empower women, and advocate for mental health and emotional resilience.   Please connect with Olivia online:   IG: https://www.instagram.com/freshstartsregistry/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/thedigitalyenta FB: https://www.facebook.com/FreshStartsRegistry Twitter: https://twitter.com/FreshStartsHere LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/fresh-starts-registry/

I had barely been diagnosed with ADHD, we were still in limbo with a bunch of stuff with my kid, and all I wanted for my birthday was my best friend to still be alive so we celebrate our birthdays together like we did pre pandemic - eating our way through West Coast cities with our pal Jeannie and laughing all weekend. March is one of my big grief months and this one hit particularly hard. During that week I recorded a podcast called: My Birthday Wish for All of Us. In that episode I talked about all things I want that can't be bought at the mall: quality and affordable child care, paid parental leave, hell just parental leave, universal preschool. Those little social safety nets, oh I really mean economic issues that are standard in other countries around the world.  (Go listen - you'll be shocked how much maternity leave you get in Bulgaria). It was in that episode that I referred to participatory democracy as a group project. And people still laugh/ groan every time I say it. Many of us are still outraged by group projects. Maybe it is because you were stuck in a group with people you didn't like or didn't share interests with. Maybe it is because you were stuck in a group with people who didn't care about the outcome and they didn't do their part of the assignment. Show notes: https://www.tamihackbarth.com/blog/episode-241 Happy back to school aka new year! While I love the fresh start energy of a new school year, it also brings a deep feeling of anxiety. Will the teacher like my kid? Will the teacher be fair? Will the other kids include mine and be kind to her? The second day of kindergarten was the first time I got a behavior call from school and I have spent every beginning of the school year since educating teachers and administrators about disabilities and disability rights within the public school system. We have had to learn about special education laws and disability rights all while raising our little firecracker. Sometimes I feel like the universe had this kid in mind for me because what else would explain my past work as a lobbyist, a public school teacher AND a coach? These jobs gave me the skills to go to bat on her behalf.  But not all families have the time, money, expertise or experience to help their students.  This is lonely work for parents of kids who don't fall into the school system because of learning and thinking differences. A lot of times we parents share similar  struggles as our kids. Between me and my husband we have 36 years of direct classroom experience. AND THIS IS STILL A MYSTERY. The education system needs help and no place is that more apparent than in special education. If your student needs an IEP or a 504, uses a wheelchair or other medical equipment or has ADHD you have to know a whole lot more stuff than parents who never deal with special education. The craziest part of this is so much of special education is settled law. It should be this hard to access services legally required for students under settled law, right? Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) guarantees students with disabilities free and appropriate education was passed in 1975 and updated in 2004. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)  was enacted in 1990 - 34 years ago. Why is this still such a struggle? I recently asked my friends, neighbors and former teacher colleagues what they wished everyone knew about special education. They came through… everyone feels like every single part of the system is set up to fail. I just discovered our school district has been under scrutiny since 2017 about their failure in special education. They have been involved in lawsuits and are just now trying to get it sorted. Needless to say I will be throwing in my two cents because this has been a shitshow. People who aren't directly involved have no idea how much extra work we are all putting in trying to sort out a complicated and confusing process. It is a privilege to not have to advocate for your student. People who live this every day are exhausted and anxious because we all want the same thing for our kids: a quality education that will help them be lifelong learners.  This isn't the last you'll be hearing from me about systemic changes in education, but I did want to share a resource I found. Of course I immediately checked this out from the library, devoured the contents and then reached out to the author to be a guest on the podcast. Meet Kelley Colman. Kelley Coleman is a feature film development executive turned author and advocate for parent caregivers and individuals with disabilities.  Her book Everything No One Tells You About Parenting a Disabled Child: Your Guide to the Essential Systems, Services, and Supports draws upon over a decade of experience, including her own experience parenting a child with multiple disabilities.  Kelley lives in Los Angeles with her husband, two boys, and her son's trusty service dog. Who can you share this episode with? Does anyone you know know a student with thinking and learning differences like ADHD, autism, dyslexia or other learning difficulties? Do you know a family that has visible disabilities? Do you know a teacher, principal or school board member? Please pass it on.

Perfection. Streaming the convention on YouTube and Tiktok equals no commentary to get in the way of the goodness. It was the 90s and early 2000s when heroin chic was a thing. It wasn't until I got into my serious yoga practice in my late 30s that I began noticing again the functionality of my body. It turns out she had visited Africa and that it is a very common African proverb attributed to her, but I digress... I could sorta see it then, but the notion that we are all interconnected and rely on one another in small and big ways has been made clear especially during the pandemic. Family Success Team is a term I came up with when we became parents. I define members of our FST as anyone who helps us be successful in any way. People who are on my FST include: school/teachers who work well with our neurodiverse kid, her OT, our therapists, our babysitters who played endless games of Thomas the Train and Duplo, all the neighbors/friends who pick up or drop off my kid when I am not able, all the housecleaners we've hired over the years, Carly - our professional organizer who helped me learn how to use our house spaces better, my hairstylist because she saves me time, money and product, my chief of staff Katie who does all the behind the scenes work in my business, the grandparents for taking care of themselves and having a good relationship with our kid, my walking buddies, my yoga teacher, my strength training coach, my parenting coach, my health coach, my business coaches, my physician, my friends who show up day after day, my biz besties, the public library, my Fair Play colleagues, all the authors who have helped me be a better version of myself. I could go on, but I think you get the point. We really aren't made to do life alone. There is simply too much to be done and we can't be experts at everything. There is a beautiful surrender to that if you ask me. Imagine having so much to do it is keeping you awake at night, wishing you had a personal/executive assistant, but not having the time or the energy to find someone to add to your Family Success Team. I found the person to talk to at Mom 2 in Nashville. Meet Ashley Chang. Ashley is the co-founder and CEO of Sundays, an executive assistant service for working parents. Their goal is to accelerate parents in their careers while creating more time for family. Sundays can help with family, with your home stuff and with your work stuff. [You can read about my unconventional career path]. Before studying to be a teacher I had a very fixed mindset. I believed that people were smart or not. I believed that you were born with it or you weren't. I believed failure was the end of the line and the worst thing that could happen.  The philosophical nature of my yoga practice coincided with the timing of my career change. I was seeking something…better. I was choking on the black and white thinking I was used to. Whispers of new ways of thinking crept into my mind while I was on my mat. As I entered my teaching credential program I set the intention to have a beginner's mind. I didn't have to have the answers already, I was seeking learning. I was allowing myself to show up vulnerably. I was showing my professors and my classmates I was humble enough to learn new things, make mistakes, and try something different to get different results. This simple shift of being okay with not already knowing changed my life forever. Perfectionism had its grip on me for the first 30+ years of my life, and it felt terrible. Teaching allowed me to be present for learning. Not the good scores and college acceptance letters to post on social media. But the real kind.  We send our kids to school to learn, but how many of us are okay with making mistakes, failing, not getting what is taught and having to figure it out?  Learning means acquiring knowledge or skill in something. That means you start out not knowing anything about it. Then, you learn about it and realize how little you know. With practice, study, and data collection, you can apply what you've gained to what you know, and if you stick with it, you'll eventually become competent.  In other words, learning is a hard, ugly process. And it absolutely rocks if you can get beyond the shame of not knowing or being terrible at stuff in the beginning. Anyway, I got to interview Jess Lahey about her books about failure and addiction and I really tried not to fangirl too much.

Calvina was born in China and moved to the US when she was 9, which brought a whole new conversation around self-care and one immigrant family's experience. In her professional life, Calvina runs Your Brand Spark, a creative agency that educates small businesses in design and branding while helping them build a solid visual brand foundation that empowers them to connect with the right audience and grow a thriving business.  I hope you'll listen to my interview with Calvina.
