The friend suggested that she start writing some jokes down. After nine months of writing jokes down, the dear friend, had moved to Los Angeles, and Mezzy decided to take a trip to go see her because it also happened to be Mezzy‘s 25th birthday weekend celebration. On one of the days of the celebration, Mezzy had asked the Dear friend, what they were going to do, and the dear friend simply replied “ we're going to see you do a comedy show”. What the heck with Richard Dweck

“Sperduto” is Italian for “lost” – but not just regular-lost. We're talking, middle-of-nowhere, no-GPS-signal, completely and hopelessly lost. Mollie Sperduto is a freckle-faced, red-haired Italian who spent her 20s living in a retirement community – and that's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how “Sperduto” her life truly is. Nothing can simply be done in a normal way with her. Mollie enjoys sharing details and stories of her life at shows all around the Northeast (and occasionally beyond!), having appeared at independently-produced shows at Greenwich Village Comedy Club, New York Comedy Club, and Broadway Comedy Club, along with countless other restaurants, theaters, fundraisers, country clubs, and private/corporate parties. She has opened for Jim Breuer, Bonnie McFarlane, and many others, and was a finalist in the Tropicana Comedy Competition in Atlantic City. She is also a talented, engaging MC, both in and out of the comedy circuit, and has had the pleasure of playing host in shows and events at the Strand Theater in Lakewood, as well as the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.

The Greatest Song Ever Sung (Poorly)
Finding Your Karaoke Voice (or Voices) with Comedian and Impressionist Bobby Hedglin-Taylor

The Greatest Song Ever Sung (Poorly)

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 20, 2022 67:27

Karaoke is all about singing, right? That should be obvious, but what's a little less obvious is finding your voice. Do you sing like yourself, in your natural voice? Do you try to imitate the original artist? Ed makes the bold claim that he is "the voice of karaoke" (and that isn't about the quality of the singing), and Adam and Ed talk about taking songs originally performed by women, and why that's a great way to expand your karaoke repertoire. In terms of impersonation, Ed goes into trying to sound like the artist, and Adam talks about the Stanislavski method and embodying a character, if not a voice. The trivia challenge is all over the place--it covers sampling, comedy songs, and iconic voices, and that's all inspired by this episode's guest: Bobby Hedglin-Taylor is a standup comedian and impressionist who integrates actual karaoke into his act and can sing in 50 different voices. He talks about that, how he finds the voices he does, and how doing singing impersonations made his own natural singing voice better. If you're listening on day one and are in the NYC area, you can catch his New York Queer Comedy Festival Highlight Show Thursday April 21st, 9:30PM at the Greenwich Village Comedy Club. As always, you can find more info on the website (https://www.sungpoorly.com), and on social media--the show is @sungpoorly on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and now even TikTok. You can reach Adam and Ed via email by sending a message to sungpoorly@gmail.com. Bobby Hedglin-Taylor is standup comedian, a circus and aerial designer who has worked on and off Broadway, in summer stock and regional theater as well as rock concerts and cruise ships, and he's just published his first book, a tribute to his late mother called #ShitMyMamaSays–a humorous look at life while dealing with dementia. Gargs Allard catches up with stand-up comedian and actor Brittany Brave. They discuss her personal history, current projects and the art of comedy. Bio from http://brittanybrave.com (brittanybrave.com): Brittany Brave is a NYC-based comedian, actress, writer, producer and host. Born in New Jersey and raised in Miami, Florida, Brave used these unfortunate facts to develop a line of comedy that is as animated as it is cerebral. Having both trained and performed at Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB), iO, Second City, The People's Improv Theater, Magnet Theatre, SAK Comedy Lab, Impromedy Miami and more of the world's leading schools, Brave has accumulated more than 15 years of on-stage experience with a focus on improv and sketch comedy.  In 2017, Brave began to perform stand-up and was quickly named an Emerging Talent by TBS Network at the New York Comedy Festival, and two short years later (2019), the festival selects Brave to perform on their Best New Talent showcase at Caroline's on Broadway. In addition to Caroline's, Brave performs stand-up comedy nightly at Broadway Comedy Club, Gotham Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club, LOL Comedy Club, Stand Up NY, Yonkers Comedy Club, Lucy's Laugh Lounge and more. She celebrated her first tour in fall of 2018 with LA-based comedian Josh Novey (Jay Leno, Amazon Prime). The two performed original comedy on the Nobody's Happy Comedy Tour, traveling cross the Northeast U.S., raising money for Stronger Than Stigma, a non-profit organization advocating for mental health awareness. Not only an acclaimed performer, but an accomplished producer, Brave runs two critically acclaimed, monthly comedy show's Improvised Tarot at QED Astoria and Rock Candy at Rockwood Music Hall. Rock Candy is the venue's only original stand-up comedy series and has welcomed the likes of Mark Normand, Harrison Greenbaum, Sean Donnelly and more, as well as praise from The New York Times for being a must-see weekend comedy event. Brave has made appearances on TBS, MTV, Sirius XM, The Jerry O. Show and The Wendy Williams Show, and local networks like NYC's BRIC TV and BalconyTV, in which she was the on-camera personality for the Manhattan and Brooklyn branches of the series from 2016-2018. Her comedy, specifically her material on gender dynamics and abuse, has been praised by ELLE Magazine, Ashton Kutcher's A-Plus, sheBOOM and Ciao Magazine. Brave, a survivor and open advocate for domestic violence awareness, co-hosted and produced the podcast, Violently Funny.  She also launched and runs Cat Call (@wearecatcall), a live platform and organization committed to advancing female leadership and camaraderie. The organization has established partnerships with Bumble, Sofar Sounds, Deep Eddy Vodka, SassClass and more.  Brave does all this and is still somehow only 4'11? What a crime.

Episode 1 w/ Mark Demayo

The Red Light Podcast Redux

The Red Light Podcast is comprised of Christine Meehan, Ricki Sofer, Gina Savage and Tiffany Collado. The four women found themselves thrust together each week in the subterranean underbelly of the Greenwich Village Comedy Club discussing comedy (go figure), comedians, pop culture, men, sex, politics, love, life...and death. A natural, flowing rapport developed; with each woman bringing her own unique background, perspective and experience to the subject matter. It was mutually decided to take these weekly conversations to a wider forum. The result is The Red Light podcast which features all of the above topics and special guests (with special needs :) ). Our Bios: Christine Meehan is a stand-up and sketch comedian who got her start telling jokes in funky smelling rooms in Philadelphia. Now living in New York, Christine now has a serious fear of hookers, germs, and her mother. Despite these fears, she has written, produced and starred such sketch comedies as Akin to Rape & Paula's Pimpin' Pantry. A child of severely Republican parents, Christine had quite the proper small-town, conservative upbringing in Delaware but has been a contributor for the severely liberal Borderless News and Views. Her mom hates that. Joe Biden might think she has special needs. Christine has been seen at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and clubs all over New York City. She only truly finds magic while blowing her shoulders out coaching really large children gymnastics because God took her too literally when she asked to uplift America's youth. She hopes one day 'Merica will change, and stop eating entirely. Ricki Sofer is a stand up comedian currently living in New York City. Ricki started her comedy career in Los Angeles and has performed at the Hollywood Improv, Laugh Factory, The Comedy Store, Ha Ha club & The Ice House Comedy club. She has written her own column for Shavua Israeli- the most recognized Jewish mag in LA. Originally from Israel, Ricki is a graduate of Emek Izrael Film School and served in the Israeli military police in a special unit which allowed her to wear her own pink clothing line instead of the dreadful army uniform. She speaks English with a pretty good American accent, which confuses her audience, until her world views make it clear that she's definitely not from here. She talks about life situations that most people never encounter and definitely don't want to. Comparing where she came from to living in La La Land made her realize how an American life makes for a really good joke. Gina Savage is an actress, comic, producer & talent manager with a rich history in the entertainment business. Beginning in 1996 , she served as an assistant to Caroline Hirsch and Louis Faranda at Carolines. From there, she was recruited by Barry Katz to book and manage his highly regarded Boston Comedy Club. Later, Savage ventured into television production; working on reality shows "The Apprentice" and "The Contender". Today, Savage manages Al Martin's Broadway Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club and New York Comedy Club. In her spare time (what spare time?) this native new yorker enjoys going to museums, walks in the park, strolls on the beach, Dalai Lama quotes and your undivided attention. Tiffany Collado may appear small and non-threatening, but challenge her to anything dealing with comedy and she's sure to shut most anyone down with her knowledge of the biz. Being a huge comedy fan and a waitress in the business for 5 years she's now chosen to pursue comedy herself. Her demeanor is aggressive, but that just stems from short bitch problems. Meh.
