Mama Bear Apologetics Guide to Sexuality

The top apologetics book over the past two years on Amazon has been Hillary Morgan Ferrer's Mama Bear Apologetics (yes, I think it's sold even more than Mere Christianity). Well, Hillary is back with an equally great new book called Mama Bear Apologetics Guide to Sexuality. And she writes about hard issues in a fun and memorable way. For example, here's a short excerpt: The idea that sexuality should be guarded is not very popular. Our society sees it as just a prudish phase we went through back in the Victorian era. Thanks to Freud, we are now supposedly enlightened, understanding that sexual repression is basically the gateway to all mental illnesses. Be free, little birdies! It's for your own good! Don't listen to those religious nutjobs. They craaazy! Well, are we craaazy? Listen in as Frank asks Hillary to explain why biblical sexual ethics are correct and how you can teach them to your kids. You can't refute something that you don't understand. This podcast and Hillary's book will help you understand the top issues of our day. Is there really an afterlife? Is there any evidence outside the Bible that we live on after death? What will Heaven be like? The great Lee Strobel is back on the show with another wonderful “case" book, this one is called The Case for Heaven. Frank asks Lee several intriguing questions that are answered in his new book such as: What evidence is there that we have a soul? What do Near Death Experiences tell us about the afterlife? How can we confirm that NDEs are real and not invented stories? (Some have been invented, but others verified.) What is Hell like? Is it possible that Hell is temporary? Why would God punish someone eternally for temporal sin? Where do we go when we die? Is there are a chance to accept Christ after death? Detective Wallace is back to show us through his new book, Person of Interest, the monumental and unparalleled impact Jesus of Nazareth has had on the entire world.  But this isn't a softball interview.  Frank plays devil's advocate with Jim to see how he responds to some tough objection's skeptics might levy against some of his points, such as: Sure, Jesus has had a big impact, but couldn't Christianity be based on a lie and then promoted by the Roman empire? You say Christians started science, but everyone was a Christian back then, so what's the big deal? Aren't science and Christianity at odds?  After all, look at how the church treated Galileo! As for the book, it is truly a unique and inspiring work that helps you realize the tremendous influence of the historical Jesus, which is best explained by His resurrection from the dead.  Person of Interest is wonderfully argued and illustrated (over 400 drawings).  If you want to buy the book or view a sample chapter, go to www.personofinterestbook.com. Do you trust science?

Do you trust experts? Do you trust science? Why do we get conflicting advice from experts and scientists? Frank investigates those questions by citing the bogus papers Dr. Peter Boghossian published in academic journals which exposes that experts, like the rest of us, are susceptible to biases, social pressure, ideological blindness, and groupthink. Be especially wary when people claim there is a scientific “consensus"! That normally means there really isn't a consensus, and people will pressure dissenters into silence. But the history of science shows that our knowledge advances when we question the prevailing orthodoxy— when we ask for the evidence that people use to come to their conclusions. Frank also cites evidence that science related to Covid has become politicized— that certain policies and treatment recommendations lead to contradictions and questions. Is There Really a Tree of Life?

When evolutionist Richard Dawkins was asked for the most powerful evidence for evolution, he cited the tree of life. We see it in all the textbooks— all living things are ancestrally related in a tree of life. But what is the evidence for that tree of life? Is there any counter-evidence to it? Dr. Stephen Meyer joins Frank to point out three massive problems to conclude that there really is a tree of life, one of which is that the computers that generate the tree are programmed to do so regardless of what genetic evidence you input. In other words, no matter what data you put in, you will always get a tree! Steve then identifies evidence against common ancestry and offers three scientific arguments for the existence of God. Frank and Steve also discuss the resignation of atheist Professor Peter Boghossian from Portland State University. According to his resignation letter, Dr. Boghossian resigned because "brick by brick, the university has made this kind of [free] intellectual exploration impossible. It has transformed a bastion of free inquiry into a Social Justice factory whose only inputs were race, gender, and victimhood and whose only outputs were grievance and division." A Scientific Way to Show that God Exists

What do you say when someone says, “What evidence do you have that God exists?” Frank believes the answer to that question is a philosophical principle that is the ground of all science: the law of causality. Every effect has a cause. So what effects point back to God? That's what Frank unpacks in this show to the point where you can demonstrate several attributes of God by just looking at the effects around you. In other words, you can show someone that the Creator God of the Bible most likely exists, and you don't even need to open the Bible to do so. Is the Bible a plain, one-dimensional text or a much richer revelation— a tapestry woven together by a Divine Mind? Dr. Chip Bennett, Pastor of Grace Community Church in Sarasota, Florida, joins Frank to reveal some of the amazing hidden themes of the Bible.  We say “hidden” because most people today don't know about them.  But the early church fathers, taking cues from Jesus and Paul, discovered that the scriptures are an integrated tapestry that has common themes spread throughout.   Chip and Frank discuss themes related to the third day, the Bride, the Serpent, the calming of the sea, and others.  Not only will you look at the Bible differently, but you'll also see another reason why the Bible— written by about 40 authors over 1,500 years— must have a Divine Mind behind it. How Should Christians Disagree About Important Things?

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 7, 2020 49:49

By Richard Land   This past week the Evangelical world has reverberated with a debate by two of Evangelicaldom’s most illustrious, influential, and popular theologians: John Piper and Wayne Grudem. On October 22, John Piper wrote an article, “Policies, Persons, and Paths to Ruin: Pondering the Implications of the 2020 Elections.” In which he explains why he would not be voting for Biden or Trump and noted in a tweet that “the reasoning really matters.” Piper’s article ignited a firestorm of discussion on social media. On October 27, Wayne Grudem wrote an in-depth response to Piper, “A Respectful Response to My Friend John Piper about Voting for Trump,” which appeared in The Christian Post.  I won’t try to summarize what they said. They did that themselves, succinctly and with clarity and passion. They were both clearly aware that they were in disagreement about profoundly important issues. And yet, they were respectful and well-mannered. They did not allow their substantive disagreements to escalate to rancor and to degenerate into personal attacks. In fact, prior to Grudem publishing his response, he sent a copy to his friend of many years, John Piper, for comments. Piper responded that Grudem “had represented him fairly” and “that he counted me as a dear friend.” Grudem explained that then Piper in a pure “Piperesque” touch “pointed out how I could make one of my arguments stronger.” Piper and Grudem do have very significant and differing points of view on the issue of the 2020 election (and in the interest of full disclosure, I think Grudem gets by far the better of the argument). You can read these positions for yourselves and draw your own conclusions. The most important part, however, of this Piper-Grudem debate is that it models how Christian brothers and sisters should be able to debate and discuss substantive and important issues of disagreement (“iron sharpeneth iron,” Prov. 27:17) and do so in a manner that honors Christ. Unfortunately, this model of civility and respect for differing viewpoints is far rarer than it ought to be in today’s Christendom. Once again, in the interest of full disclosure, I have met both men, but I have a far more developed relationship with Dr. Grudem. I do try to read everything they both write since both are such excellent writers, even though my theological perspective is somewhat different than theirs. One of the most interesting things about the Piper-Grudem debate is that both men’s theology tells them that God “decreed” or “ordained” who was going to win next Tuesday’s presidential election before the foundation of the world, while I merely believe that He always knew the outcome as a function of His omniscience, not necessarily His omnipotence. In conclusion, I am extremely grateful to Dr. Piper and Dr. Grudem for providing such an inspiring model of how Christian brothers can disagree in a way that honors our Savior and His Kingdom. I must confess that I had started to pen a response to Dr. Piper’s piece before I read Dr. Grudem’s response. Alas, my column was not as elevated in tone as Dr. Grudem’s, and so I am grateful to have this positive influence on my attitude. Finally, let us always remember that even if the candidate we support does not win next Tuesday, God is still on His throne. God may send judgment to America, but God’ church will continue on “and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matt. 16:18).
