Jerry Brazie is an outspoken, straight-talking CEO, Entrepreneur and Real Estate Investor living in Portland, Oregon. Growing up with zero advantages, eight brothers and sisters, and no education and on his own at 17, he faced a lifetime of crappy jobs and poverty. Starting at 28, Jerry beat the odds by starting his own company and 20+ years later, and having bought and sold a dozen companies, Jerry has strong opinions on what it takes to succeed in business and life in today’s America. With a lifetime of experiences both at work and at home, Jerry is hoping to challenge and inspire anyone that is searching for success. Jerry pulls no punches and tells it exactly as he sees it. Jerry will certainly challenge you, probably offend you, and will definitely make you think. The show is co-hosted by William (Billy) Green from Vancouver, WA. Billy is a former software developer branching out into the creative space and a content creator for Jerry. As well as providing his technical expertise, Billy brings the perspective of a young millennial. He will provide the opinions and pushback of a young entrepreneur vs. an established CEO. Are you wondering if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Have you ever wondered what the life of a successful business owner looks like? If you are serious about learning from real-world experiences both in life and business from someone who has lived it, give us a try. This podcast series will cover stories from Jerry's life, including the lessons he has learned along the way both in business and in life. So if you are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur, are an existing business owner, are looking to be successful, or just have questions on the journey, give us a listen. We want the podcast to be both educational and entertaining while providing the best information we can to help anyone looking to start or run their own business. In this episode, we talk with Josh Denny, who has spent the last decade traveling the country, enjoying a passionate love affair with food and serving up heaping portions of funny as a stand-up comedian. Originally from Philadelphia, and currently residing in Los Angeles, Josh's lifelong trip across our nation has armed him with a vast knowledge of what makes you smile, whether it be with a clever comedic observation, or dropping knowledge on the best eats in the country. Josh kicked off his comedy career by winning Crown Royal's 2008 “midwest's next big comic contest,” and has since released two hour-long stand-up comedy albums, including 2008's "honest brutality" and 2012's "social hand grenades" to warm reviews. Josh has been a lightning rod for saying what he thinks, something missing in today's society, and particularly refreshing. Why you may not like what he says, and some of his jokes may make you cringe, he has every right to say it, and he does not hold back. While I wanted to hear some of Josh's backstory, along with stories from his time on television as host of the Food Channels "Ginormous Food", to his ideas on the country and politics, what I was really interested in was talking about business. Josh has unique insight into one of the hardest businesses to own and operate, restaurants. His insight on what it takes, the people who do it, and their dedication, hard work, and fervent desire to produce the best quality possible are inspiring. I enjoyed the conversation, and I hope you do also.
In this episode, we talk about our initial reactions to seeing someone park terribly. We talk about being aggressive, where it's needed and appropriate, and where it's not. This is as raw and uncensored as I can be. Some will like it, and many will hate it, but that should be the nature of discourse. Some will never listen again, and some will appreciate it, either way, I respect that. This is my truth relative to the latest school shooting. The killing in Uvalde, Texas was horrifying, there is no comparison. Setting that aside, the behavior of the police is an unquestionable act of cowardice not seen since…the last school shooting, nightclub shooting, or any other shooting where cops stood outside while people were murdered. In this podcast, we talk about cowards, heroes, and the outright attack on masculinity in the west. The ramifications on men are only now being felt, and it will only get worse, and society will pay a heavy toll. The lies, obfuscation, and the unending amount of “thin blue line” butt-covering, over the bodies of 18 babies and two teachers, is disgusting. It's time ALL cops step up and provide the service they commit to when they are sworn in. And as a society, we need to respect the police, and the police in turn need to work hard to EARN that respect. I have some strong opinions on this subject, ones that many people won't like, fortunately, they can simply stop listening. I hope you enjoy the most important Podcast I have ever done. In this episode, we are excited to have Wayne McFarland on the podcasts. Wayne is an entrepreneur, author, and a man who has lived a life full of experiences, and he has the stories to go along with them. Listening to him for an hour will leave you feeling like your life is boring. Just a few of the stories you will hear from Wayne include the time Wayne pitched a loan shark when he lost 10k at the Hollywood sign, when he left town with a monkey, and why he got shot in Arkansas. A great episode filled with great stories, a must listen! Wayne McFarland wandered away from a small, mid-western town some years ago. With no planning at all, his history is one of stumbling into one bog after another from the Dakotas to California, from Pamplona to Paris. His main claim to fame is mostly and surprisingly not being dead, plus getting involved with a lot of strange stuff, usually unwillingly or by accident. Yeah, this indeed is a memoir of sorts, if shark fishing in one's underwear, roping a bear, getting drunk with your Grandfather, or losing ten grand at the Hollywood Sign is a memoir. The Day Johnny Cash Hit On My Wife is on the roster as well, for the only name drop in all the stories. There's also a thing about getting shot in Arkansas and a road trip with a monkey. I can't deny these were life-shaping events, but truth be told they all happened under the heading of “oops.” Join us in our Facebook group "The Successful Mindset" and start up a conversation! Amazon is switching to the "megacycle," a term that talks about Amazon switching to 4 days, ten-hour shifts. Oh, the inhumanity of it all! It's all a travesty of justice and human compassion. Easily on a level with Christians being thrown to the lions, starving people in Africa, and anyone forced to watch anything with Joy Behar in it. The over the top hyperbole around people asked to work ONLY four ten days shifts is frightening. Ok, they start at 1:00 am and go until 11:00 am, but here is the thing: If you don't like the hours, DON'T WORK AT AMAZON! If you don't like the four day weeks, DON'T WORK AT AMAZON! After all, you can always go work at the Post Office or the DMV if you want to provide crappy service, give your customers what they don't like, and lose billions in money every year. Problem solved, GO WORK AT THE DMV! I wouldn't say I like Amazon; I think it's a monopoly. But they can have whatever hours they want. They can pay whatever they want, and as long as people are willing to do the work, the rest of us need to shut up about it. And one more thing spelled out all in caps, UNIONS SUCK, sucking the life out of companies and employees alike.
In this episode, we have two great friends of Jerry and Billy, John Taylor and Kristina Bullock, the best realtors in Portland, OR for over 20 years. John and Kristina launched their podcast All Things Portland last year and have knocked it out of the park! After helping so many homebuyers and home sellers over the years, they wanted to create a space to share all the unique dynamic people they have met along the way. Giving others a chance to share who they are, how they contribute to our community, and what they love most about living in Portland, OR. We have John and Kristina on to talk about several topics, including Realestate in portland, Rona, and how it has affected the market from their perspective. Interest rates, a potential bubble, their podcast, and so much more!
In this episode, we talk about perspective, specifically how our minds like to play tricks on us while we live through things getting progressively worse and worse. We also talk about how subconsciously we separate or date old photos and videos. We finish it up by explaining tips and tricks from working successful people, it may look easy, but it's not. Understand they have been dragged through the rocks and have put in the time. Similar to how an NBA player shoots a three-pointer. Looks easy, but it's not, you have to put in the time! Since the age of 20, John worked as a boilermaker at his dad's company and rig welder at a large manufacturing firm. With the hope of expanding his horizons in 2005, he started his own side business out of his garage, making metal “cowboy” furniture; barbeque pits, deer feeders, and rocking chairs. The small, part-time business has metamorphosized into JK Welding, a multi-million-dollar company that thrives on creativity, skill, and man-power. His philosophy is, “we build anything.” If other companies turn down a project, my crew and I take on the job with gusto. He has a heart and passion for inspiring the young and embracing Veterans. He mentors thousands of teens at high school, and community speaking engagements throughout the entire US and is the first to jump on the opportunity to lead others and share his entrepreneurial success story. John had a rough upbringing and knows first-hand what it takes to pull yourself from your bootstraps; grit, determination, and willingness to lead and learn have been the pillars of his success. I sit down with one of the world's great powerlifters, Chris Duffin, to talk about...business! I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this conversation. Chris and I both have so much excitement when it comes to talking about business and success and how to achieve it that we could have easily done 2 hours. Known as the "Mad Scientist of Strength Training" this dude is an absolute brute, being the only person to have deadlifted AND squatted 1000 lbs for reps! He is the owner of kabukistrength.net, as well as four other successful companies right here in my home city of Portland. Oregon. While Chris's physical achievements are amazing, I was much more interested in his even more amazing life story and business accomplishments. Among other things we discuss growing up in poverty and neglect, and some of the keys that helped him escape that life and find success. How mistakes are critical to finding success and learning from the mistakes even more valuable. How Chris got into business for himself, his early experiences as an entrepreneur, and what he thinks about "wantrepreneurs!" Growing up in poverty, with zero advantages and little direction, does not mean you don't have a chance. Chris shows, with his own life story, what is possible when you combine a rock-solid mindset with an unequaled work ethic.
