Alright everyone welcome back to the Podcast, it's been a while and I am SUPER glad to be back and sharing on this platform because as always I have sooo much to share with you, and this is certainly one of my favourite ways of doing that. So this week I am sharing all about Adrenal Fatigue - from Ayurveda + science to help Yogis heal from stress and burn out. While of course our yoga (asana) practice is helpful, there are things we want to incorporate beyond what we do on the mat and within our lives to fully heal. Within this episode i'm sharing: - What adrenal fatigue is, and some common symptoms to help you identify if you have it - Why a single pill/practice is not going to be the magic bullet to heal - Why root cause healing and addressing broader lifestyle concerns is the key to long term healing - Some simple practices you can start implementing to heal. Before we start this weeks episode I wanted to let you know that my spring workshop - Unstuck - creating balance through Kapha season is now open for enrolment. If you've been feeling slow, heavy, tired, sluggish and stuck in both body and mind, this is the perfect workshop for you. If you are a Yoga teacher, this is a great workshop to take especially if you not only want your own personal shifts in energy and stress, but also want to learn how to align your classes with the spring to make them even more potent for your students. This is a two part workshop that is designed to give you an introduction to Ayurveda, and more specifically to practical tools, nutrition, lifestyle changes and energetics you need to embody and shift to naturally support your system this spring. The second part is a live meditation/pranyama session where we are going to be releasing stuck and stagnant energy from the system, and then I will be answering all of your burning questions around Ayurveda, and how to easefully transition into spring this season. The link to register is in the show notes, and of course if you have any questions, feel free to reach out on Instagram :) Alright, that's all for now hope to see you there, and lets get on with the show! As you'll here in the podcast, this is our 3 month group Ayurvedic Health Coaching program plusss Foundations Certificate that bridges the gap between the knowing and the doing. That allows you to get access to high level personalized support, while learning Ayurveda, so you can experience calm vibrant energy, while earning a Foundations Certificate in Ayurveda that will help deepen your practice + teaching. If this calls to you, you can apply directly HERE: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfhIgoMe55DhJdPCaPC39xQ3dfmmk5b4ne5wPhrP3fEncE2SQ/viewform?usp=sf_link Our check out the program page here: www.yogifuel.com/embodied-ayurveda-yoga In this episode I'm going deeper into the 3 ways Ayurveda can transform your life, practice and your teaching (if you're a teacher). The coles notes here is: 1. It supports and strengthens our personal health and well being - we can't serve and support others from a perptually empty cup. Ayurveda gives us the tools to fill up our cup for good 2. We embody this wisdom and deepen our own practice + experience of reality. The best healers and change makers are deeply embodied in their practices. Ayurveda (and especially EMBODIED Ayurveda, helps us do just that) 3. It gives us the wisdom to take our teaching and coaching up a notch. By infusing Ayurveda within our teaching, we get to help our students, and clients go deeper into their practice and experience the magic of this work too. I hope you find this podcast helpful :) Annnnd I hope to see you inside of Embodied Ayurveda! Enjoy!

In this episode I'll be sharing: - My journey with IF and some red flags I had consistently that had me questioning (and should have you questioning too) - What learning Ayurveda taught me about Intermittent fasting - hint there is NO one size fits all - How Intermittent Fasting (hardcore) can aggravate Vata Dosha, and anxiety - And why understanding and embodying Ayurvedic wisdom completely changed the game for my practice, and teaching
This week I thought I would share something that has been coming up more and more in my community - which is how Ayurveda ultimately supports our practice and our teaching. Many members of the Yogi Fuel Community are students and/or teachers of Yoga, with a deep desire to peel back the layers in their practice. One of the things that drew me to Ayurveda was the way it helped me go deeper into my spiritual practice, and gave me a system of healing that was in alignment with my Yoga. We can think of Ayurveda as a Yogic Lifestyle practice essentially. That's simply the coles notes and we go waaaay deeper in this podcast where I share about: - How Ayurveda supports our physical health from a spiritual lens - The importance of a strong, resilient physical body on the Yogic path - How Ayurveda helps us deepen our understanding of Yoga and it's broader wisdom traditions (and in fact, is an integral part of those wisdom traditions) - Why all serious Yogis and Teachers should learn Ayurveda I also share an upcoming free web class I'm hosting on October 18th that is the perfect next step is you loved this podcast. You can register HERE: www.yogifuel.com/chaostocalm Anddd If you want to join us in community, come be a part of our Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/188249745185067 Or connect with us on instagram @yogifuel
If there is one thing I've learned after my 12+ years in the wellness industry it's this: the most powerful approaches include an INTEGRATIVE mind-body-spirit approach. When I was struggling as a personal trainer, burning myself out at both ends, it was because I was only focused on the BODY - not the mind, or my energetics. In this episode I'm sharing the deeper importance of integrating these layers of our being, and how Ayurveda naturally does this all. We're covering: - The value of a top-down + bottoms-up approach to healing - Why we DO need to focus on the physical body but not forget the broader context of WHY we need to nourish and heal the physical body - I share some wisdom from Tantra, - And the teaching that has been making the most powerful impact for me on and off the cushion. In this episode I also talk about: DONATION BASED Nutrition for Yogis workshop! In this episode I'm going deeper into the methods of meditation and helping you determine the *best* type of meditation for YOU, and 3 key things to consider when choosing a practice that's right for you. This episode came about because I hear people alllll the time say they struggle with meditation. That they, "suck" at it. The reality is you don't suck, you might just be using a technique that isn't right for *you.* There are many styles of meditation, and if we don't know the fundamentals, we may choose a technique that can cause us to experience MORE anxiety, stress and overwhelm. So in this episode you'll learn: - Why there is NO one size fits all approach to meditation - How we can use the wisdom of Ayurveda to choose a practice that is in alignment for us. - The importance of having a teacher to guide us on our path (because yoga and meditation were always traditionally taught to the students individual needs). - The three key things to consider when choosing a meditation practice - and more! I even bust out some wisdom of the Gunas, and Polyvagal theory in this one, so listen in! For those who are curious about going deeper into a meditation practice, our 4 week Ayurvedic meditation program The Presence Project allows you to go at your own pace, and experience a variety of practices each week. Take a look at the program page and I invite you to enrol if it feels in alignment. www.yogifuel.com/thepresenceproject You can also work with me 1:1 this month within Embodied Ayurveda www.yogifuel.com/embodiedayurveda OR message me directly to learn more about 1:1 personalized coaching, counselling + Ayurveda packages.
This is perhaps one of the most anxiety provoking episodes I've ever shared.. But I felt I needed to. The world seems to be in a state of chaos, and as conscious humans we need to step up, and lead by example. In this episode I share: - some tips for how to reduce anxiety at the level of our physiology (for more tips check out www.yogifuel.com/Ayurvedaguide ) - The importance of rooting into routine and ritual at this time to calm anxiety, and vata dosha - the importance of communicating our perspectives with non-judgement - the even greater importance of listening with compassionate curiosity to others perspectives, even when, and ESPECIALLY when they don't align with our own - and more Inhale. Exhale. We will get through this together; not apart. I deeply believe we need to bridge the gap between the extremely harmful, divisive narrative that is being perpetuated right now. United we stand, divided we fall. In this episode I'm expanding on the practical application of a powerful Yogic practice called Sakshi Bhava - being the witness. In this episode we cover: - The power of the subconscious mind - How thoughts create our reality - How to witness difficult emotions as they arise - How to witness deeper core beliefs as they arise - How this supports us in creating more emotional freedom along with deepening our personal practice In this episode I share more about how you can work with me through some of these emotions. This week I'm keeping it super simple for ya'll - there is SO much out there around nutrition, and what "diet" is best. There are seemingly so many "rules" around nutrition, and so many "rule breakers" it can feel overwhelming to understand how to eat in a way that honours your body and mind, but that also makes you feel GOOD! In this episode I'm sharing 3 simple Ayurvedic concepts to live by, and we go deeper into: - Why simplicity is so important - Why we want to cultivate positive discipline within our relationship to food - Why most intuitive eating doesn't actually work - and how to approach this consciously for best results - There is no one size fits all approach to nutrition - And so much more My mission when it comes to nutrition is to empower shit $#@% out of you to eat in a way that is in alignment for your body and mind and that allows you to feel free on all levels. This sets you up powerfully for a calm clear body and mind, deeper spiritual practice, and the energy to fulfil on your deeper purpose and vision. If you want to go deeper into this, I hiiiighly suggest you check out embodied ayurveda: www.yogifuel.com/embodiedayurveda And, if you're not ready to take that step, join us over on Facebook for a community of conscious humans looking to uplevel + align with Ayurveda: https://www.facebook.com/groups/188249745185067
This week's episode we are going deeeep into the power of the subconscious mind, how it works, and why it's actually the secret ingredient to both your success, and your struggles. 90% of our day to day is governed by the subconscious mind and its programming - and so much of that programming is conditioned, unconscious, and not in alignment with who and what we desire to be. When we become aware; and we do the work to uncover this programming, and learn to rewire it - thisss is where the magic happens. Because when we're stuck in outdated mental programs, we operate within those, and even inside the best intentions, with the most knowledge and best coaches, we will continue to feel stuck on the hamster wheel. In this episode we cover: - What the subconscious mind is from both a science based perspective and a Yogic perspective - How to identify limiting mental programming - And a simple 3 steps process to shift and re write our mental programming to achieve what we actually want And so much more! This is really a taste of what we do inside EA, and inside my 1:1 Mentorship, so if you're curious about going deeper into this work, take a look at Embodied Ayurveda and/or apply for mentorship if that feels in alignment: www.yogifuel.com/embodied-ayurveda-yoga If you want more free trainings join us over in our Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/188249745185067
If you've been experiencing hard times; feeling like you're in your "dark night of the soul" you are not alone. We've been in a collective period of challenge. And what I want to offer you in this episode is some respite; sharing from my personal and professional experience how these challenging times are often the most potent experiences for personal, and spiritual development. In this episode we go deeper into: - The importance of witnessing and observing your emotions - The notion of "good" and "bad" and how they create attachment and aversion - My personal experiences with miscarriage, grief, sadness, and my dark night of the soul, - And how these were the experiences that catapulted me into deeper practice And, how I actually look fondly and lovingly back at these times. I want to also extend the invitation to anyone who is experiencing these challenges, to reach out. I am taking on a few 1:1 clients for Ayurvedic mentorship/life coaching, and if you are looking for guidance, or perhaps have been guided here and this calls to you, I invite you to reach out. In this episode I am sharing THE most important thing you can do to calm your mind and give you more energy. It's not the "sexiest" thing - but it is the most important: Routine. Creating a solid and consistent (ish) routine is one of the most important things you can do if you're stuck in the "S.A.D" cycle (stress, anxiety, depletion cycle). In this episode I cover: - What the SAD cycle is, and how routine plays such a powerful part in helping you get out - How and why your routine DOESN'T need to be a 5 hour goddess ritual, it actually can be as simple as 1-2 consistent things you do each day - The way routine grounds your energy and Vata Dosha - and so much more An amazing accompaniment to this is the Ayurvedic Morning Routine Guide which you can download HERE: https://www.yogifuel.com/morningroutine If you are ready to go deeper, you can also book in a call to chat about our 1:1 coaching here: https://calendly.com/yogifuel/alignedimpact Or check out our program Embodied Ayurveda HERE: www.yogifuel.com/embodiedayurveda
This week on the Yogi Fuel Podcast we're going to break down the Doshas even further. Specifically, I want to share with you just exactly WHAT a "Dosha" is anyways, what that even means, and why it's so important. This is one of the most fundamental concepts in Ayurveda, and understanding this stuff is GAME CHANGING when it comes to living in deeper self alignment, and creating more energy within our lives. In this episode you'll learn: - What the Doshas are/what this term means - Why the language of the Doshas is so important when it comes to individualizing our nutrition, lifestyle and practices so we can have abundant energy - Some basics around how to align with your Dosha - An overview of each of the Doshas and their energetic make up If after listening to this episode you're like okay I need to go deeper with this, I wanna know more, and you wanna skip all the figuring it out on your own, I hiiiighly suggest you check out the Embodied Ayurveda program page HERE: www.yogifuel.com/embodiedayurveda If you wanna learn more about your Dosha and discover your dosha you can do that HERE: www.yogifuel.com/doshaquiz If you have ANY questions about this episode, or share any AHA's, send me a DM over on IG at www.instagram.com/yogifuel

And I know what it feels like, and is required in order to keep your shit together as a mom in this world we're living in. In this episode I'm sharing it ALL with you - all my best tips on how to regulate your nervous system, stay calm, stay fuelled and energized so you can show up in the world as the mother, practitioner, and badass entrepreneur that you want to be. In this episode I'm covering: - The number one most important thing you need to do to regulate yourself as a mom (hint... it's about your morning routine) - Why fuelling your body with food is SO important especially if you're sleep deprived - How to create daily rituals to keep you grounded and aligned amidst the chaos - and much more! Welcome back gorgeous humans! Had a little lapse in recording and uploading cause, ya know, a casual hurricane happened. But we're back and this week I'm sharing the three Ayurvedic keys that you are probably not addressing right now in your healing process, that are keeping you stuck in the SAD (stress, anxiety, depletion) cycle. These are sort of like the three underlying pillars from Ayurveda that we need to take into account in each and every treatment protocol and practice we prescribe to our students and clients. The three keys are: 1. Bio-individuality 2. Multi-dimensionality 3. Daily Sadhana I dive deeper into WHY having these three keys in place is SO critical in the episode but, the Coles notes is: We need practices, habits, and rituals that address our unique, bio-individual nature (aka our dosha/guna/nervous system state), that understand our multi-dimensional nature - aka we are not a stagnant human being that is JUST a physical body OR a mind - we need a process and system that acknowledges the multi dimensional nature of each and every one of us, And, last but certainly not least - this process, and these practices need to be done on a DAILY basis in order to be truly effective. Healing is not a one time event, rather a daily occurrence and choice we make. If this resonates with you, and you want to go deeper and have a chat about how to get out of the SAD cycle for GOOD - book in a complimentary call. These FREE 30 minute calls are slowly going to be phased out. So if you wanna have a chat, and come away with some powerful next steps, I'd get in ASAP. https://calendly.com/yogifuel/alignedimpact If you want to apply directly to Embodied Ayurveda and see what we offer within our program, you can do that here: www.yogifuel.com/Embodiedayurveda Instagram: www.instagram.com/yogifuel Join our Facebook Community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/188249745185067
This is a three part series I recorded over in our Facebook group, really going deeper into Vata Dosha, and the nervous system. In this episode I cover: - The 5 most common signs of a dysregulated nervous system and aggravated Vata Dosha - Why treating surface level symptoms is a bandaid solution to the stress, exhaustion, overwhelm and digestive issues you may be experiencing - How creating balance is a multi-dimensional approach - And go deeper into how this all works in the body and mind to give you an understanding of what's going on. If you resonate with this, I hiiiighly recommend you download our simple Ayurvedic Morning Routine Guide + Checklist. This is a simple, easy to use and implement guide to creating an Ayurvedic morning routine that fits with your life and schedule, to help you start your day with more calm, groundedness ease, and energy to create that ripple effect throughout the day. In this episode we discuss: - The power of mindful eating - The gut brain axis and how our body and mind are interconnected - How inflammatory foods are causing you more stress and anxiety - Why seasonal eating is one of the most simple, powerful practices to help you stay in alignment in your body and mind If you want to learn more about how we can work together, you can book in a 30 minute complimentary consult HERE --> https://calendly.com/yogifuel/alignedimpact Or, shoot me a message over on IG @yogifuel or an email to melissa@yogifuel.com
In this episode I wanted to go a little deeper into the SAD cycle - aka the cycle of stress, anxiety and depletion that are keeping you stuck, anxious and from stepping into the deeper purpose you have in life. In my experience, we can't fully step into our purpose, and self expression from a space of dysregulation. We need to first balance the Doshas, the nervous system, and get into integrity in the body and mind and theeeeen from that space of clarity, step powerfully into our mission. In this episode I'm going deeper into what causes that stress that you're experiencing, and the different types of stress there are. I'm sharing the role of Vata Dosha inside of the SAD cycle, and how it perpetuates it I'm going into anxiety, and how anxiety is a manifestation and result of the stress we are experiencing, And how depletion or exhaustion is the end result of all those things. Then, I'll share with you some tips to get out of the SAD cycle. Welcome Back to this weeks episode of the Yogi Fuel Podcast! In this episode I am diving deep into understanding the diets and the Doshas. There are sooo many diets out there, from Keto, to paleo, to FODMAP, to vegan, vegetarian, and it can be overwhelming to understand what way of eating works well for us, let alone understand these from an Ayurvedic lens. Well, in this episode I hope to dismantle some of that for you. I'm going to be covering: - What Ayurveda says about these “diets” - hint it depends ;) - How we can modify any way of eating in alignment with Ayurveda - because ultimately Ayurveda doesn't subscribe to one way of eating - How Ayurvedic eating isn't exclusive to an Indian Diet - Covering the main principles of eating in alignment with Ayurveda - And what Inuitive eating REALLY is - another hint it ISN'T about eating whatever you want, and how we can start to truly intuitively eat And so much more This episode was honestly so much fun to record, and as I was making the edits I was so happy with what came through, and I'm sooo excited for you to listen. In this episode I'm sharing all about the power of YOU, and your unique constitution. According to Ayurveda, you were born with special gifts, energies, and qualities that make you unique. The reality is, these gifts were given to you for a REASON. There is no one on the planet with the same make-up as you, and there is no one on earth who can do what you can do, in the exact way you can do it. When we learn to honour, embody and EMBRACE those qualities, we step more fully into who we are meant to be, and we are able to do our Dharma in the way that was intended. Whether you are a Yoga teacher, nutritionist, health professional, or whatever it is, even if it seems like there are a million other people doing what you're doing... there is NO ONE who does it quite like you. And there are people who need you to show up in your full glory, so they can get the healing you have to offer. But, it starts with you. In this episode we will cover: - Each of the Doshas along with their strengths and weaknesses - How to harness the power of your Dosha and embody those strengths - How to mitigate the impact of your weaknesses If you want to learn more about Embodied Ayurveda click here: www.yogifuel.com/embodiedayurveda If you want to chat about working with Mel click here: https://calendly.com/yogifuel/alignedimpact
If you want to show up more powerfully in your teaching and in your life, and finnnnally step into the impact you know you were put on this earth to create... this episode is for you. In this episode, I'm reading my new free guide on Ayurveda for Yoga teachers- specifically, for those Yoga teachers who are looking to level up. Who are done feeling tired, burnt out, out of alignment, and are ready to step into radical integrity in their body mind and teaching. You were put here on this planet for a reason; with a big mission. And maybe you feel that deep down, but something is in the way. You haven't actualized what you were put here on earth to do. Maybe you can't pin point what it is... Maybe you have an inkling but you're so damn tired you can't bring yourself to actually work on it.. Well - in this guide we're going to get clear on why that is, and what you need to do to change that so you can get out of your own way, and start showing up in a way that is in alignment with the person you were put on this planet to be. In the guide I'm going over: ✨ The underlying mind-body imbalance that's responsible for the stress and anxiety that's stopping us from embodying our full potential ✨The three key area's we need to balance to step into vibrant energy so we can create massive impact ✨The Three pillars of Yogi Fuel that MUST be addressed for deep, lasting change to occur so you can finally step into the most vibrant, aligned version of yourself. I have poured my heart and soul into this guide, and I know it's going to be incredibly helpful. You can download the hard copy of the guide here: www.yogifuel.com/Ayurvedaguide And if the EA (Embodied Ayurveda) program calls to you, you can read more about the program here: www.yogifuel.com/embodiedayurveda
YFM Ep 26: COVID -19 as an opportunity for practice, and conscious awakening In this episode I share the massive opportunity we have during this situation, for spiritual awakening and development. I go deeeeeep into how this experience is an opportunity to awaken spiritually to our eternal selves, and a whole bunch of other stuff: In this episode I go over: - How everything is an opportunity to observe the self, (yes, including COVID-19). - How being the witness is perhaps the most important practice during this time (and may make “being the witness” more available to us) - The basis of Vedic meditation, and how we are NOT our thoughts (or our body or mind ;) ) - Why we need a daily practice to continue to tap into our inner consciousness, and natural blissful being-ness - Why we need to lean into the discomfort and fear rather than run from it And so much more. If you want to be a part of the upcoming meditation course, shoot me an email at melissa@yogifuel.com Don't forget to follow along on Instagram @yogifuel And come join us over on Facebook for live meditations, discussions, and a ton of awesome resources to help you learn more about Ayurveda, and Yoga while you're at home! https://www.facebook.com/groups/188249745185067/
This week I wanted to bring you some Ayurvedic wisdom for these uncertain times. And not like, “Take this herb mixed with ghee before bed to calm down and improve your poops” Like the wisdom of Ayurveda and Yoga for your lifestyle that will help keep you grounded and in control (as much as possible) with all that we cannot control around us. What you'll get out of listening to this episode: - Understanding these uncertain times through the lens and language of Ayurveda - How we can create balance through the elements and qualities - Simple daily practices to create more grounding and calm - Simple Herbs that we can use to promote ease and help us handle the stress of the current situation - And so much more. In these challenging times, we can return to ancient teachings to support us. Gut Health Episode This week we're talking about the connection between our brain, and our gut. Specifically, we are going to dive into how our brain can impact our gut health, and how our gut health can impact our mental health - i.e,, our anxiety, and emotions. This is something I have been sharing about a LOT lately, because I really feel like it's the missing piece of the puzzle for so many people. Ayurveda has known for 5000 years that the mind and the body are intimately connected, but now we have actual modern science to prove it, and I'm stoked to be sharing that with you this week. In this episode we cover: - The Ayurvedic perspective on the mind-body connection to our anxiety - How the gut impacts the brain from a neurophysiological perspective - How the food we eat can help us manage our anxiety from the ground up - Why focusing on gut health might be the missing link, and the one thing you haven't considered if you struggle with anxiety, energy or low mood - How mixing the wisdom of Ayurveda with modern science is the most comprehensive way to take control over your gut health, and as a result your anxiety and energy. Don't forget to follow along over on Instagram at @yogifuel and on Facebook in our Beyond the Asana group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/188249745185067/ If you want more information on this, you can watch my three part mini series, going deeper into this topic here: https://www.yogifuel.com/pl/139934 If you want to learn about your mental constitution from an Ayurvedic perspective you can do that here: https://www.yogifuel.com/pl/139867 If you want to schedule a call with me, to see how the Yogi Fuel Method can help you, you can do that here: https://calendly.com/melissasinghwellness/45
Guys, I can't tell you how excited I am for the first edition of the 2 Girls, 1 Practice Podcast episode. This has been a long time in the making - me and Elyse have been having woke-ass conversations via voice notes for years, and knew we were doing a disservice to the world by not sharing it with other people. So alas, the 2G1P Podcast was born! In this very first episode we're talking all about the importance of creating conscious relationships with ourselves and others. We also: - Introduce who we are, and what we do - Share about the evolution of our friendship from bonding over poop talk, to deepening our friendship and exploring consciousness together. - What a conscious relationship looks like, and how it's not always about making the other person feel comfortable - Share practical strategies on how to begin creating more awareness of the ego/self within your daily life - Go down the rabbit hole and ramble (in a good way) on a few occasions. This was seriously, so much fun and you can tune in on the first Sunday of every month at 9am EST (that is Toronto time ;) ) People are already asking for us to do more, so don't fret, we will be adding more frequent episodes to the calendar as soon as we can. This is probably my favourite and most important podcast to date. Judgement within the Yoga community around food choices is real; and it's a super challenging subject to talk about. While I think veganism can be a wonderful expression of Ahimsa, it may not be suitable for all body's and it can be irresponsible and inappropriate to try and fit all people into this external ideal. This episode is all about understanding how to approach our nutrition from a place of discipline and ease, and how this can parallel our asana practice. In this episode I go over: - How there is NO one size fits all approach to nutrition - The Yogic/Ayurvedic view of cosmic manifestation, and how we need to recognize this in our food choices. - The role and value of discipline in our sadhana and in our food choices - The parallel between ashtanga and eating real food - The danger of being overly dogmatic and obsessing over external protocols - How nutrition and Ashtanga are both practices of discernment and how this can be valuable in helping us cultivate positive discipline and conscious habits around food. - How nutrition labels are problematic and arise from a place of ego. - How to responsibly source animal products You can Download the Dosha quiz here: https://www.yogifuel.com/Dosha-Quiz Want to bring more Ayurveda into your life, and create grounding routines to help you keep calm? How do we stick to our habits, and maintain our Yoga & Ayurveda practices in the midst of a big life change? Many of us think that when we meditate, we're just going to sit down and magically, somehow, all our thoughts will go away and we will be left in this peaceful, blissful abode. And so when we sit down, and are met with ALL THE THOUGHTS, and feelings, we might feel like we suck at meditation. When actually, that's just normal, that's just what happens! Meditation is HAAARD. And it's actually not a practice in itself, it's a state of being that we achieve through practice; through concentration. In this episode, I share more about what meditation actually is, and the role it plays in the path of Yoga… If you are struggling with meditation, and KNOW it's something you need to work on - send me a DM. Many people are walking through the day stressed, anxious, exhausted and on the verge of burn out. They're doing ALL THE THINGS, eating clean, doing the Yoga, but may not be tapped into the power of their breath. I find the breath so fascinating. It is such a simple, yet powerful tool that we can access literally anytime. And in my opinion, is perhaps the missing link when it comes to cultivating more energy and ease in our lives. In the Podcast I share the Ayurvedic perspective on breath and how it relates to our stress and energy levels, and also some science that backs it up. I also mention an amazing tool - The Breathing App, by Eddie Stern. This is an amazing resource that you can download to support you in learning some simple resonance breathing. https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/the-breathing-app/id1285982210 Here is the link to download it If you are chronically tired, desite doing all the "right" things, lets chat and see how we can help you! In this episode we cover: - Why food is important for your physical practice, and how it helps to build the physical tissues - Why we want to be mindful about what we eat, and nourish our body but also hold these ideals lightly - Why veganism is not the absolute truth when it comes to a Yogic diet, and why there is no one size fits all approach - Some changes to the Yogi Fuel Method online coaching program In this episode I share about some important (and amazing) changes I've made to the Yogi Fuel Method, my online coaching program designed specifically for Yogis. We are living in a world of hyper stimulation. We're constantly on our phones, binge watching Netflix, or engaging our senses in some way or another. Pratyahara, or the control of the senses, is the 5th limb of Yoga. In this episode I share about some really practical ways we can take this limb into our everyday lives. Just being mindful about what we are taking in, who we choose to surround ourselves with, and how often we're engaging with technology are just a few ways we can monitor our sense organ stimulation. I'd love to hear about how you're incorporating this limb into your everyday life, so if you wanna share, you can send me a message over on instaream @yogifuel or a private e-mail to hello@melissasingh.com I've also started taking on a few 1:1 Ayurvedic coaching clients, so if you're interested in learning more, let me know! This practice is seriously transformational, and it would be my honour to support you.
Shifting up our habits with the seasons is one of the basics habits of Ayurveda. In this podcast I'll be sharing why Seasonal eating is a natural Dosha balancing habit, and my top tips for seasonal eating. I'll also discuss what to do to when you have a doshic imbalance that contradicts the seasons - like having high Vata during Pitta Season! If you want to know more about shifting your eating habits to align with Ayurveda and your Dosha, send me a message on instagram @yogifuel Also watch out, because the Yogi Fuel Academy is opening up for enrolment soon, and I've made some pretty stellar changes (not to toot my own horn or anything). Ep. 10 How Eating is an Evolution & A Daily Practice | My Journey Into Veganism, Ayurveda and Beyond by Melissa Singh
Travelling is awesome, fun and full of adventure… but let's be honest it can feel overwhelming at times. Yes we're seeing beautiful parts of the world, or relaxing by a beach, but we're also deviating from our routine, familiar food, structure, we're on the move - and all these things can aggravate Vata Dosha. In this episode I'm sharing my fave tips for balancing vata dosha while travelling, and a little bit about what I brought on the plane to India with me (because yes, I meal prepped like a freak in the days leading up to our travel. So here are my top 5 Tips for balancing Vata while travelling: 1. Drink plenty of HOT water, ideally with spices a. Vata is associated with cold and dry qualities. Having plenty of hot water helps keep you hydrated, but also helps to mitigate the cold and drying effect of vata aggravation. The spices will also help with digestion which can also be compromised in a vata aggravated state. 2. Eat warm, grounding foods a. Eating warm. Oily, spiced foods - like Kitchari - are super helpful while travelling, which is why we brought some with us on the way BACK from india. We also brought: Samosas, Chilas, and Dosas. Yogi Fuel Approved recipes of each coming soon! b. When we have cold, raw, and un-spiced food, it can aggravate vata dosha. On the way THERE all our food was COLD because I made it the night before. My vata was SUPER aggravated en route to India and I had crazy uncomfortable bloating the entire time. 3. Maintain your morning and evening routine as much as possible a. Maintaining your routine - with leeway obviously - is super important. Routine and ritual help us feel grounded and balance vata dosha. Pick a few simple things from your morning routine, and do them daily! 4. Practice daily - think consistency over depth a. This is something, admittedly, I didn't do on this trip and I paid for it. Mentally I felt pretty anxious, but time and space just didn't permit for me to do my practice, and I clearly didn't prioritize doing even a little. BIG MISTAKE! Even if you can get on your mat for 5 minutes, or your meditation cushion, or say a couple rounds of your japa - DO IT! It will pay off in dividends. 5. Nasya and/or Neti Pot Daily a. Vata dries out the airways, and specifically nasal passages. Clearing them daily and lubricating them with nasya oil helps to keep them in tip top shape! Alright - those are my tips! In this Episode I'm sharing all about the Doshas! I'm going to uncover: What they are Each individual Dosha, their characteristics and simple ways to balance them Ayurveda, is basically the science of the doshas. Once we understand the Doshas, Ayurveda is simple to understand because everything else comes from this Doshas give us a language to talk about the qualities inherent in us. When we understand our dosha, or our nature, we can slowly take steps to live a life that is more in alignment, and more connected to ourselves. Dosha means “What darkens”, spoils or causes things to decay. It can also translate to strain, or fault. Though, this doesn't mean they are BAD. When imbalanced, they have the potential to wreak havoc on our health, which is why it is so important we learn to live in harmony with our dosha! In this episode I'm talking about my favourite thing - FOOD! Specifically I talk all about how creating connection to our food is so important. And not in a "woo-woo" way, but I'm a big believer that connecting with our food can be so beneficial for our health, and can create deeper levels of nourishment. Krishnamacharya said, "Food is the first yoga" and by this he meant that we ought to take the same care in our choices around food, as we do with our asana." In this episode I chat about: - Food Sadhana and how food can be a spiritual practice - How we literally ARE WHAT WE EAT and that food is like alchemy - How the cooking process and conscious cooking can improve and deepen our connection to food -How being mindful and present as we eat is super important in connecting with our foods and how all these things, beyond deep connection, support our health and deeper nourishment from food. Let me know what you think! And as always, if you're not all ready, follow along on instagram @melissasinghyogifuel for more daily inspiration, recipes, and Ayurvedic/nutrition stuff!
