Today, we'll be talking to Holistic Nutritionist and Fitness Instructor Amanda Carneiro. I wanted to have Amanda on the show because I find her approach to health and wellness interesting, as well as find her perspective on how other parts of our lives affect our health and her journey fascinating.I've felt for a long time that we need to have a broader conversation as a society about health and wellness in a holistic sense. There are a lot of fast-tract pitches that sell quick-fixes to problems that really require major lifestyle changes slowly over time. As a teenager, I tried the Atkins diet, and in hindsight realize that it didn't make a lot of sense. It's very easy to fall prey to these ideas because their simplicity and big promises make them very appealing.Losing weight can be really difficult. Habits, genetics, and how you were brought up play a big role in your ability to lose weight. For me, I was overweight as a child and didn't have the healthiest mindset in my family. We ate a lot of processed foods, and exercising wasn't a priority. We focused more on fun than being healthy, and that affected me through my childhood. It took me a long time to understand that there isn't a one-size-fits-all solution and that I would have to put in the work. A lot of people fall victim to these fad diets, and I wanted to bring someone on who could put these into perspective and give real, actionable advice instead of a trend. What I want to ask Amanda is, how do we unlock what's happening in our brains that make us seek out these quick fixes instead of making lifestyle changes that will make our bodies more optimal, and how do we supplement that with nutrition and inspiring workouts? It's so important to find solutions that work for you, and Amanda will share how you can make these changes in your life today on Conversations with Nick Thompson. We're talking all about how to lose weight without dieting in this episode. I know losing weight and getting healthier is a big topic of conversation in my community, because it's something we all want, and most of us have such a hard time sticking to. Episode 2099 - On this Monday show, Anna Vocino and Vinnie Tortorich talk Slow Horses, , bad diet fads and unhealthy 'health products,' old-school gyms and the 'roid' look, and more. https://vinnietortorich.com/2022/05/bad-diet-fads-more-episode-2099 PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS BAD DIET FADS There are lots of diet fads that are just money makers for their proprietors. They don't work - they're selling crap. Lots of products are marketed as healthy or 'keto,' but they're filled with crap and sweeteners. This is true of many vitamins and supplement products, too. And those are probably filled with seed oils. Try to avoid anything that seems too good to be true, or is just temporary. There aren't shortcuts, and real, whole food is always better. You also shouldn't have to pay extra to adapt to a new lifestyle. OLD-SCHOOL GYMS Vinnie used to go to some pretty old-school gyms, and prefers finding gyms like this if he can. Lots of the guys were body-builder types. They'd try to sell PEDs to one another! Anna sees a super roided up guy at her gym pretty often. And the other day, we was talking about eating quinoa. Eating to fulfill your metabolic needs How to be mindful of food marketing Show Notes: [0:00] What it do crew! Welcome back to the All Terrain Fueling Fire Podcast! Today we are welcoming ATH coach Alex Freas as our guest to talk about food. [1:30] For those watching in the Facebook Group please comment #live [2:00] Introducing the main topic that there are no bad foods, learning moderation and self-discipline. [3:00] The lengths young Garry went to strive to compete as a professional athlete. [8:00] “Doesn't matter if you're overeating dirty or all clean, natural, organic foods you can mess up your body either way. We all need to learn to eat for our metabolic needs” Garry Dubbs [10:20] Erick talks about the complications surrounding the media exposure of how we have been marketed to in western culture surrounding what the right things are to be eating. [13:00] Garry gives an example of how studies and numbers can be bent to tell a specific story in nutritional studies. [14:30] The main point of the message is that moderation and knowledge of what you are eating is the key, not the foods themselves. Everyone needs to learn what the healthy amount of particular food to eat for you as a unique individual. [22:00] “The freedom of your nutrition is knowing the data.” Erick Baier [27:00] Don't blindly trust marketing. Labeling and packaging are designed to make you feel good about your purchase and what you are eating. [35:30] “People don't even know that what they are eating is making them feel horrible because they've never tried anything else and they're used to feeling horrible all the time, then when they start eating better they realize they've been doing this to themselves unconsciously for so long.” Erick Baier [37:00] Discussing the dangers of buying into the “restriction” mindset to an unhealthy level. [43:00] Don't buy into the unique mechanisms of change being marketed to you, you are equipped with all you need to really make a lasting change, your mind, and the discipline to follow through. Welcome Back to this weeks episode of the Yogi Fuel Podcast! In this episode I am diving deep into understanding the diets and the Doshas. There are sooo many diets out there, from Keto, to paleo, to FODMAP, to vegan, vegetarian, and it can be overwhelming to understand what way of eating works well for us, let alone understand these from an Ayurvedic lens. Well, in this episode I hope to dismantle some of that for you. I'm going to be covering: - What Ayurveda says about these “diets” - hint it depends ;) - How we can modify any way of eating in alignment with Ayurveda - because ultimately Ayurveda doesn't subscribe to one way of eating - How Ayurvedic eating isn't exclusive to an Indian Diet - Covering the main principles of eating in alignment with Ayurveda - And what Inuitive eating REALLY is - another hint it ISN'T about eating whatever you want, and how we can start to truly intuitively eat And so much more This episode was honestly so much fun to record, and as I was making the edits I was so happy with what came through, and I'm sooo excited for you to listen. If you are desiring more personalised support and guidance around Ayurvedic Nutrition, you can absolutlely reach out to us on instagram @yogifuel, send an e-mail to Melissa@yogifuel.com or apply directly to Embodied Ayurveda here: https://calendly.com/yogifuel/alignedimpact

Presenting an I Feel Fat Today original series, Diet Fads! Once in a while we will take a break from the world of insecurity and dive into the culture of dieting. Why do diet trends change faster than last seasons ugg boot? This has been a topic that has always fascinated Kelly because she has lived most of her life on one or more of these things! Crazy to think someone can spend decades of their life unknowingly obsessed with one topic. In this first installment of Diet Fads, Kelly explores the Ketogenetic Diet, AKA The Keto Diet. Have you ever thought it was a good idea to live on bacon and cheese for a week? Well some of us can't answer "NO!" to that question. In Episode 59 I sat down with Dr Renae Thomas, MD who is is a Physician working in Loma Linda California, one of the Blue Zone populations that display incredible longevity and high quality of life. This is a really important podcast - sometimes in nutritional science we can become too reductionist and zoom in on potential mechanisms without appreciating the complexities of human-beings. Observational data from people displaying longevity, happiness and a high quality of life serve as a reminder that sometimes we need to Zoom Out and look to those who are living proof of what it means to be healthy. If you want to hear from an actual expert (a qualified Medical Doctor) talk about longevity and how to eat to avoid disease then you will love this episode. IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS: Where Renee grew up Her journey to Medical School Why she developed an interest in the role of food and medicine Why it's like working in Loma Linda, California What the Blue Zones are? Seventh Adventist's and the AHS studies - how vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians and omnivores compare in terms of health outcomes and mortality Typical clinical patient presentations in this population of Seventh Adventist's Contrasting populations nearby who have different lifestyles The type of diet that seventh adventists eat Renee's thoughts on the Ketogenic/High fat style diets and whether they are supported by science and much much more RESOURCES: Blue Zones website & books Renae's website AHS population studies: Vegetarian diets in the Adventist Health Study 2: a review of initial published findings Vegetarian Dietary Patterns and Mortality in Adventist Health Study 2 Beyond meatless, the health effects of vegan diets: findings from the Adventist cohorts.
