On today's solo episode of The Wholesome Fertility Podcast, I'm sharing one of my greatest passions Ayurveda, and how this ancient healing system can deeply support your fertility journey. Ayurveda, which translates to “the study of life,” is a holistic approach that brings harmony to the body, mind, and spirit. In this episode, I'll walk you through the three doshas Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and how understanding your unique body type can empower you to make daily choices that support reproductive health and overall well-being. You'll learn how to identify your dominant dosha, how to nourish and balance it with specific foods, yoga practices, and self-care rituals, and why Ayurveda is such a powerful and intuitive tool for restoring balance. Whether you're new to Ayurveda or looking to integrate it more fully into your life, this episode is filled with practical guidance to help you feel more connected, grounded, and supported on your path to fertility. Key Takeaways: Ayurveda is a holistic science that balances the body, mind, and spirit to promote fertility and overall health. There are three primary doshas Vata (air & ether), Pitta (fire & water), and Kapha (earth & water) each with unique physical, emotional, and energetic characteristics. Understanding your dosha helps you make personalized lifestyle and nutrition choices that support hormonal balance and reproductive health. Vata types benefit from warmth, grounding, and healthy fats; Pitta types thrive on cooling, anti-inflammatory foods; and Kapha types need stimulation, lighter foods, and movement. Daily practices like dry brushing, self-massage, and tailored yoga routines can deeply support nervous system regulation and fertility. Ayurveda provides intuitive and practical tools you can apply daily to feel more balanced, energised, and connected to your body. ✨ Take the Dosha Quiz here to discover your Ayurvedic body type! This show's guest is stem cell scientist Dr. Ben Van Handel. Dr. Ben is not your typical research scientist who spent 10 years in the lab developing small molecules to treat and prevent osteoarthritis. Dr. Ben is an animated, passionate, fun scientist who is bringing his expertise to skincare. We talk about stem cells: how they work, and ways we can make sure they stay as healthy as possible. Did you know there is an entirely new field of scientific study called INFLAMMAGING? Dr. Ben and his partner Amir Nobakht, MD have created Heraux, (pronounced HERO) a scientifically based line created around the molecule HX-1- with the hope of keeping our inflammaging slower. This is a man who loves his science, peloton bike, dog, and a crunchy peanut butter sandwich each day. I mean who wants to think about food or take time to navigate a lengthy menu? Except when you talk to him about why he roasts his own coffee. I had so much fun doing this interview. Enjoy. My guest today is Michael Easter, author of THE COMFORT CRISIS and professor at UNLV. I listened to and read this book and was really excited to speak with him. Michael shares a comprehensive look with studies and data on how our very natural and healthy desire to be comfortable is in some ways crushing our overall sense of well being, peace, and enjoyment. This is not a doomsday conversation, but a realistic approach to inserting conscious habits into our lives that help tip the scale in our favor. He shares how being cold, hungry and bored in the Arctic was some of the greatest weeks of his life. I also appreciate Michael letting me learn more about the ways in which he achieved sobriety and how that perspective shift led to the path that he is on now. Ayurveda is a way of living with the natural seasons and cycles of the Earth. Oftentimes Ayurveda is deduced to a “what am I” Dosha quiz or another food list. But it's so much more than either of those! When practiced daily it can prevent disease and help us age gracefully with ease. In this episode Julie opens up to Lyndsay about her physical symptoms and imbalances to give us examples of how knowing your Dosha can provide a zoomed out perspective on health issues that feels sustainable and empowering. Join us to learn how Ayurveda and the doshas can help restore harmony in body, mind, and spirit. In this episode, I am Interviewing Dr. S Gopakumar Associate professor in Govt. Ayurveda College Trivandrum, Kerala on the concept of Prakruthi analysis and Dosha quiz. One of my favorite events of the year is Attune, a thoughtfully curated four-day event at Serenbe filled with opportunities to connect socially, attune inwardly, and get inspired through immersive experiences. I got to record episodes with some of the smartest and most inspiring spiritual leaders around today while I was there in 2019, but few manage to make that wisdom more accessible than today’s guest. Whether it’s in her bestselling books, the Highest Self Podcast, or Rose Gold Goddesses, Sahara Rose just has a knack for making spiritual and Ayurvedic wisdom fun and relatable so it can serve the needs of today's people. When you first hear about Ayurveda, a holistic healing system created in India thousands of years ago, it can seem like this mystical, unapproachable thing. But the beauty of Ayurveda is its simplicity, and how easily it can be integrated into our lives. So, today, Sahara shares how she applies Ayurveda to improve her own life — and how you can, too. I’ll also be back at Attune later this year if you want to meet me and hear from incredible attendees like Sahara Rose, Joe Dispenza, and John Wineland. Head over to attuneexperience.com to learn more and reserve your tickets. 09:30 — The biohacking devices that are slowly making their way into Sahara’s household (by way of her husband) BLUblox Blue Blocking Glasses Ampcoil Chilipad & Ooler Sleep Systems 12:00 — An Ayurvedic approach to marriage and relationships The key to a relationship is living your dharmas, or living your soul purpose In relationships, some people are like waves and some people are like islands How the three doshas show up differently in relationships 17:30 — The three doshas and why it matters to know yours Dosha means energy; it’s essentially an archetype Vāta = air Pitta = fire Kapha = earth What happens, mentally and physically, when your dosha are out of balance The relationship between your dosha and your dharma Using nootropics and other biohacks to balance your dosha How dosha imbalances lead to disease How to bring your dosha back into balance, mentally and physically Want to know your Dosha? My knowledge is vast and my experience far-reaching. I was very, very fortunate to travel to India to study Ayurveda in the state of Kerala in South India at Kottakkal - known as the birthplace of Ayurveda. So it is with profound happiness and reverence that I’d to share the basics of this incredible healing modality. What is the key to perfect health? In the past decade, personalized medicine has emerged as one of the most promising developments in modern healthcare, offering an approach that tailors medical care and treatment to an individual’s unique characteristics, including a person’s molecular and genetic profile. Advances in scientific research have increased our ability to predict which therapies and treatments will be safe and effective for each person – and which will not. From the perspective of conventional Western medicine, personalized medicine is a relatively new field, yet an individualized approach to healthcare has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Learning about your Ayurvedic body type will give you valuable information for nurturing your body’s inner intelligence. This understanding will allow you to make the best choices for your own health and wellbeing, including identifying the foods, activities, and lifestyle that will have the greatest benefit. It's important that during difficult times we maintain our practices; they can help ground and support us during difficult times. Sometimes these responsibilities may “get in the way” of our practices, or lifestyle habits, and it can feel challenging to stick to anything. This week I'm giving you my best Ayurvedic tips on how to keep going, and modify your practices and lifestyle habits during difficult times. We go over: - Why Vata Dosha dominates the area of change and how to create balance - Why consistency is so important - How you can be easy on yourself inside of structure - How you can modify your practices and expectations of yourself to let go of guilt I feel like I drop some serious wisdom bombs in this one, so I hope you have a listen! Travelling is awesome, fun and full of adventure… but let's be honest it can feel overwhelming at times. Yes we're seeing beautiful parts of the world, or relaxing by a beach, but we're also deviating from our routine, familiar food, structure, we're on the move - and all these things can aggravate Vata Dosha. In this episode I'm sharing my fave tips for balancing vata dosha while travelling, and a little bit about what I brought on the plane to India with me (because yes, I meal prepped like a freak in the days leading up to our travel. So here are my top 5 Tips for balancing Vata while travelling: 1. Drink plenty of HOT water, ideally with spices a. Vata is associated with cold and dry qualities. Having plenty of hot water helps keep you hydrated, but also helps to mitigate the cold and drying effect of vata aggravation. The spices will also help with digestion which can also be compromised in a vata aggravated state. 2. Eat warm, grounding foods a. Eating warm. Oily, spiced foods - like Kitchari - are super helpful while travelling, which is why we brought some with us on the way BACK from india. We also brought: Samosas, Chilas, and Dosas. Yogi Fuel Approved recipes of each coming soon! b. When we have cold, raw, and un-spiced food, it can aggravate vata dosha. On the way THERE all our food was COLD because I made it the night before. My vata was SUPER aggravated en route to India and I had crazy uncomfortable bloating the entire time. 3. Maintain your morning and evening routine as much as possible a. Maintaining your routine - with leeway obviously - is super important. Routine and ritual help us feel grounded and balance vata dosha. Pick a few simple things from your morning routine, and do them daily! 4. Practice daily - think consistency over depth a. This is something, admittedly, I didn't do on this trip and I paid for it. Mentally I felt pretty anxious, but time and space just didn't permit for me to do my practice, and I clearly didn't prioritize doing even a little. BIG MISTAKE! Even if you can get on your mat for 5 minutes, or your meditation cushion, or say a couple rounds of your japa - DO IT! It will pay off in dividends. 5. Nasya and/or Neti Pot Daily a. Vata dries out the airways, and specifically nasal passages. Clearing them daily and lubricating them with nasya oil helps to keep them in tip top shape! Alright - those are my tips!
