The far more censored version of the award-winning and unparalleled "A Mediocre Time with Tom and Dan." - "A Corporate Time" is a daily companion and terrestrial radio show heard nationally on iHeartRadio. It's silly.
What's the worst way to start a podcast? Rob and Hash do a deep dive into Accidental Racist by Brad Paisley and LL Cool J. Scott Stapp starring as Frank Sinatra in an up and coming film (Owen Wilson voice insert here). We talk the worst movies of the 90s. More details of Colin's stepmom's abusive tactics (who cares, amiright?)

This week, Aviv gives Lindsay the best gift of all: the knowledge that this song exists, Accidental Racist by Brad Paisley and LL Cool J. How could this have happened? Is it possible that a song *on its face* allegedly meant to promote racial understanding does way more harm than good? Spoilers: YES. And what does all this have to do with Cracker Barrel? We have the unfortunate details. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lyricsforlunch/support

(WMAR) — Maryland's top lawmakers, including Governor Larry Hogan, say Delegate Mary Ann Lisanti needs to resign after using a racial slur in reference to a district in Prince George's County, which is predominantly African-American. Del. Mary Ann Lisanti (D) apologized to the leaders of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and the House Democratic Caucus for her use of the n-word. Del. Lisanti released a statement Tuesday afternoon: "I deeply apologize to the citizens of my district, people of Maryland, all of my colleagues in the Maryland General Assembly and everyone reading this for my word choice several weeks ago. I am sickened that a word that is not in my vocabulary came out of my mouth. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/according-2-b-matthews/support

On this episode...I try a brand new format where I comment DURING the episode of "The Hate Project" that I am revisiting. This time, I am revisiting episode 27 which originally aired on April 15, 2013 (exactly 6 years ago today!!). Check the timestamps below for the topics discussed - highlights include a call from "Mandelacon", discussions of imperialism, and my dramatic performance of Brad Paisley's "accidental racist" *00:00 - Intro *05:12 – Intro to “The Hate Project: Episode 27” where I establish newer ground rules. I decide to start a hate group against rude people *08:47 – I offer to do a dramatic rendition of Brad Paisley’s “Accidental Racist” with any hatemonger who wants to call in and do the LL Cool J verse. *13:38 – discussion of online shitpost hate forum Nimbusters *16:05 – I assess this “hate project” experiment and whether it’s doing any good. I describe Flannery O’Connor’s “The Artificial Nigger” and how it relates to the actual hatemonges here. *22:03 – Republican Kansas county commissioner using the N-word in 2013 and how this is the real soul of repubs / racist people having black friends as insurance *27:28 – klansman Dragon1488 has an Indian primary care physician, this makes me mad as an Indian-American and I call out the hypocrisy, though I still disguise myself bc I am also anonymous on this show. *36:46 – A call from Mandelacon (sp?), who claims to be part of the Pan-African Intelligence Network yet does not belong to any sect or group. This is a new and interesting perspective for this show, even in the incoherent moments. He talks about imperialism and state violence versus humanity. *1:00:13 – resident klansman Dragon1488 calls in. I call him on his hateful rhetoric, then try to introduce brand new stereotypes to him. -Mandelacon calls back in, Dragon1488 tries to debate him on South Africa. -Dragon even has insights on U.S. imperialism, yet doubles down on racism and blowing up countries of non-white people. Also discussion of Boston marathon bombing, and Dragon demonstrates a reasonable perspective on allowing communities to get rid of confederate park names and statues. *1:00:54 – My current commentary on my interactions with Dragon – did I let him off too easily in being friendly with him on these calls? *1:00:56 – My dramatic rendition of Brad Paisley’s “Accidental Racist” *2:00:04 - Outro References from episode:Holden Matthews, son of sheriff's deputy, accused of setting fire to black churcheshttps://www.cnn.com/2019/04/11/us/louisiana-black-church-fires-suspect-detained/index.htmlhttps://www.theadvocate.com/acadiana/news/crime_police/collection_9c63ec70-5c8d-11e9-88c7-379d4911ca02.html#1Brad Paisley "Accidental Racist"https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/brad-paisley-ll-cool-js-accidental-racist-song-raises-eyebrows-54274/Republican Jim Gile 2013https://www.huffpost.com/entry/jim-gile-kansas_n_3045720Kaufman County Murdershttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaufman_County_murdersBoston Marathon Bombinghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Marathon_bombing Music: Gnossienne no. 1 by International Surrealist Bulletinis licensed under a CC0 1.0 Universal License.Remedy for Melancholy by Kai Engel is licensed under a Attribution License.

Part 2 of our episode with ADouble: Discussed in this episode: LL Cool J beats up a white intruder in his house in August 2012. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/ll-cool-won-charged-fight-burglar-los-angeles-home-lapd-article-1.1143000. "Accidental Racist" song gets released in April 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTzRJ3cpTTI. In August 2013 it gets announced "L Cool J won't be charged in fight with burglar in his Los Angeles home: LAPD" http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/ll-cool-won-charged-fight-burglar-los-angeles-home-lapd-article-1.1143000. So the timeline becomes, (1) he beats this guy up, (2) does this song after, and (3) then it gets revealed later from an LAPD spokesperson that he was still facing the possibility of charges at the time he did the song. Country singer Brad Paisley and NCIS investigator LL Cool J perform a song about how slavery was *pretty much* as bad as wearing a do-rag. We dive into this best-of-intentions-worst-of-executions song and discuss how it demonstrates the dangers of white guilt when unleashed inside a Starbucks. Oh, also follow us! https://www.facebook.com/TheSongtopsyReport/
In episode 14, we welcome the southern correspondent for the New York Times, Campbell Robertson (@campbellnyt), to talk about the movement to remove confederate monuments in New Orleans and elsewhere in the south. Tom and Tarence then do a dramatic reading (sort of) of Brad Paisley and LL Cool J's 2013 song, "Accidental Racist."
This episode goes all over the place. We’re partly reintroducing ourselves to the audience and partly just catching up with each other, which was largely the original premise of the show. Try to hang with us, I think it’s pretty darn entertaining. Welcome back young girl (choose your own punctuation for that sentence). Who is we, where we been, an unopened condom Accidental Racist and some half-tirade from Jackie How Aaron got a Mac, I guess Ricky’s Fun Puns and “Words on Cards” games Let’s paint a word picture of a nice night out and a good ol’ fashion Black Power rant A secret tattoo makes an appearance And as always, we take a turn for the perv Time for the quarterly “remember this guy we used to know?” check in Keep your eye on the twitter for updates, and thanks for listening!
Robert and Danny are joined by Kelly to talk about Star Wars. Danny accidentally says something racist and a sitcom is born.
Sam and Josh catch up to talk terrible accents, key moments they both fucked up, and then they nerd out about Captain America: Civil War
This week, we discuss sheepskin condoms, Xander's new office, trouble with Reddit at work, Alkali reviews Gen Con, CONSPIRACIES, and we find out Alkali has accidentally been racist at his job.
Comin' straight from the underground, this week Paul and AJ discuss the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. Yes, the two whitest podcasters you know deliver their take on the film's authenticity, its sad relevance, where it falls on the biopic spectrum, and yes, the bizarre fact that Ice Cube offspring O'Shea Jackson Jr. is playing Ice Cube. Here's hoping it's less awkward than that time they jammed to "Accidental Racist." Next: that charming Brit, Wesley "Wezzo" Mead, is back for another round of charming Brit-ness.
What’s crappening in this episode: Levi’s 508, states with wrong capitals, Cuban vs. Puerto Rican flag, Casey Kasem, The Athens of Florida, Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Big Ben, Accidental Racist, Star Wars killers, Georgia Puppet Museum.
We couldn't end this year right without having the G.O.A.T. on. How he survived an abusive upbringing, studied his craft with early rap pioneers in the same rap dojo with Kool G. Rap, becoming the foundation stone that became Def Jam, building with Queens' street legends, battling this rapper, that rapper and Jay Z, why he didn't sign management with Diddy, the "Accidental Racist" thing, flipping burglars in his castle and the victory of seeing his wife survive Cancer, its all here and more. From Hollis to Hollywood, this episode is most certainly blowticious. LL Cool J will forever remain hard as hell. Pause.

Junot Diaz has a book of short stories out now in paperback. It’s called ‘This Is How You Lose Her.’ Junot’s book is new, but the protagonist Yunior isn’t. This is the third time the Pulitzer Prize-winning author has written about him. Is Yunior just an alter-ego for Diaz? Jesse will ask. Then, we revisit Jesse’s interview with the actress Carrie Fisher. She’ll talk about what it's like to play one of the most recognizable characters in movie history. Later in life, Fisher was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and then treated it with electroshock therapy. She’ll talk about what that was like, too. Plus, the hosts of My Brother My Brother and Me answer listeners’ pressing pop culture problems; Ian Cohen introduces us to a couple of great new heavy records; and in the wake of The Accidental Racist, Jesse will tell you about a record that mixed country and hip-hop to the benefit of both.

Still peeved about standing in line at the airport due to sequestration? Yeah us too – metaphorically speaking. So just in case you missed it the first time, we've re-examined everything that was whack from last week: Lauryn Hill’s situation, the bombings in Boston, even that rice hating Elvis impersonator. Without the aid of J-Crush, the crew even gives a critical listen to that “Accidental Racist” Brad Paisley and that whack-assed hybrid he collabo-ed on with LL Cool J – now that really sucked! Hey, don’t worry, magnificent Hip-Hip was still on tap. X-Clan, Diamond D, Kool Moe Dee, 50 Cent and Terror Squad helped us sift through the mess. Yo, Mr. Whiteman, your red t-shirt actually does suck - it’s Boom Bap Radio!
