Hello and welcome to the GRACED podcast, where we infuse everyday magic into your everyday life. Today's podcast guest is none other than AdamJK, author, speaker, and artist and we talk about the themes of the Fool card - spontaneity, being a free spirit, purity, and new beginnings. He's also created a tarot deck called OK Tarot and we talk about his process of creating a tarot deck and how he infuses his honesty, humor, and relatable way of drawing and writing into this deck. We talk about taking the leap and trusting the universe, which can feel scary, especially when you don't know what's on the other side. We also talk about taking small steps versus taking big leaps and how progress over perfection can help you gain momentum as you move forward. It's okay to not have all the answers, and in fact, on the back of Adam's OK Tarot box, it says "It's not perfect, but it's ok." Listen to this episode to gain comfort and wisdom that finding your process takes time and you can often find the answers when you take that leap into the unknown - trusting yourself in the present moment. 00:00 Introducing podcast guest AdamJK & OK Tarot Giveaway Announcement 01:47 Diving into the themes of the Fool tarot card 02:51 What does taking the leap mean for you? 05:27 Taking small steps 08:12 Creating the Mystic Mondays Tarot Deck 09:09 Creating the OK Tarot Deck 14:01 Spirituality vs religion in Tarot cards 15:48 The Process of Creating a Deck 18:48 Trusting the Universe 19:28 Creating the It's a Sign Oracle Deck 24:46 The Power of Collaborating vs Solo Projects 31:59 AD - Join the Create Your Deck Club! www.createyourdeck.club 34:51 Creating Work for a Younger Version of Yourself 37:21 Advice for your Younger Self 41:56 Taking the Leap and Moving 44:56 Grace Leaps Off a Cliff, Literally 46:39 Transitioning 47:26 Adam's Sun, Moon, Rising Signs 48:34 Adam's Current Creative Rituals 50:57 Grace Gives Adam a Tarot Reading 54:54 Clearing Space to Manifest 01:01:29 Outro & Giveaway Details Watch the full podcast interview on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfqxOxnPKJY&t=1s Read the show notes and full transcript on the Blog: https://graceduong.com/2023/04/18/episode-3-the-fool-w-adamjk/ Buy the OK Tarot Deck on Amazon: https://amzn.to/41AqRG8 _____________________________________________ Mystic Mondays Decks

If you've been looking for a sign to change your life, this is it. As you've probably figured out by now, life isn't a linear line. It's full of ups and downs, uncertainty, and confusion; however, what guides us through is intentionality. That's what illustrator and author Adam J. Kurtz's fourth book, You Are Here (For Now): A Guide to Finding Your Way, tackles. In it are essays and illustrations aimed to help readers with personal transformation — instead of simply living life getting through it day by day, Kurtz wants you to actually enjoy where you are and who you are. As a best-selling designer, artist, and public speaker (whose work has been featured in the New Yorker, NYLON, and more), Adam has dedicated his whole life to finding the humor, truth, and optimism in being alive. He channels the lessons he's learned through his art and wants you to know that it's all going to be okay. His art and stationary brand has been sold all over the world and he's amassed a big social media following through his work in mental health. In this episode, Adam J. Kurtz talks to us about what purpose really means to him and how we're never as alone as we feel. Guest: Adam J. Adam J. Kurtz (whose artist's identity is Adam JK, is a designer, artist, and speaker whose work is rooted in emotional honesty, humor and even a little bit of darkness, but always with the intention of connection, honoring the reality of any given moment, and being honest. He's been making and sharing on the internet since age creating his first fan website at twelve years old, eventually went to school for graphic design and learned to express, in his words “slightly too much." Adam's work embraces the world with a certain "backhanded optimism" and a dark sense of humor or what he describes as "positivity adjacent." And he speaks frankly about channeling human emotion into art, and generally just trying to be more okay with whatever we've got and wherever we are in life. This comes out, often, in the form of hand-lettered aphorisms and illustrations that you'll find all over the internet and social platforms, as well as in books, merch, prints, stationary and brand-focused gifts under his ADAMJK® brand. His books have been translated into over a dozen languages and his offbeat, fun and irreverent creative work has been featured everywhere from NYLON and Adweek to Vice, The New Yorker, and more. In his newest book, You Are Here (For Now): A Guide to Finding Your Way, Adam steps more fully into his writer side, sharing longer-form stories, insights, and ideas. We dive into all of this, how his lens and work have been shaped by an othrodox religious upbringing, what led him down the path of zagging when everyone else was zigging, how his move from New York to Hawaii has changed him and so much more. You can find Adam at: Website | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode:You'll also love the conversations we had with Morgan Harper Nichols about art and life.My new book SparkedCheck out our offerings & partners: Talkspace: Online Counseling Via Text, Audio, Or Video Messaging. Stories about what happens when bringing a creative project to life becomes your life. Photojournalist Nancy Borowick used photography to cope with a family tragedy. She tells the story of what happened when both of her parents were diagnosed with stage-four cancer, and how she celebrates their lives in her book, The Family Imprint. Kelly Rakowski, founder of the Herstory Instagram account, explains how how she's creating Personals, a new kind of dating app for the LBTQIA+ community, inspired by vintage, text-only personal ads. We also hear some of the wildly creative ads people have submitted, read by the authors themselves. Artist , author, and Just the Beginning's advice columnist, Adam J. Kurtz explains how writing notes to himself turned into a series of funny-but-genuine books to help others face their own creative challenges. You can ask Adam a question about a creative quandary you're facing by calling 914-381-0233. You might hear your voice in a future episode. Music in this episode: Balún ensemble, et al.
