A woman who captured on film Brazil's presidential election and the subsequent coup attempt as supporters of far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed the National Congress has spoken to FRANCE 24 about how her film has become a real historical document. Sandra Kogut had given out cameras and asked people from both sides of the polarised political spectrum to record the run-up to the election. She did not expect the level of violence that followed, and the quality of film that she and her citizen filmmakers managed to capture. On Perspective, she spoke to us about her film "At This Moment, in the Nation's Sky".

Larry Chance is best known as the lead singer of The Earls, famous for their early 60's doo-wop classics, “Remember Then,” “Life Is But A Dream,” and “I Believe,” a song that was dedicated to a former group member who was killed while serving in the armed forces. Likewise, Grammy winner, Billy Vera is best remembered for his 1987 number-one smash “At This Moment,” the heartbreak hit song featured on the TV sitcom, Family Ties, as well as for Storybook Children, his duet with gospel singer Judy Clay. This was the first interracial duo to grace the stage of Harlem's Apollo Theatre in 1968 – an event that is still remembered by the music community to this day. Billy's musical career spans the past four decades and many different musical genres, from R&B to Soul, from Country to Rock-n-roll. He may be the best storyteller in music. Billy Vera has seen it all and done it all. The music, The personalities, The Mob and the crazy wonderful story of how a forgotten song called “At This Moment” became an unlikely smash hit Billy Vera-an American Original on “Confessions with Steve Edwards”.
Billy Vera has spent his entire life in the entertainment business. Although he is best known for his 1987 surprise #1 hit “At This Moment,” he’s also had roles in many movies and TV shows, and he’s written and performed some of the themes for those TV shows. But, it doesn’t stop there.Vera has had a long career as a voice-over announcer, so odds are you’ve probably heard him at one time or another. He’s also an avid record collector and music historian who’s penned the liner notes to many collections and box sets, even winning a Grammy for his work on a Ray Charles set. His twists and turns are documented in his new book, Harlem to Hollywood from Backbeat Books. He talks about what he learned from having both of his parents in the entertainment business growing up, how the first song he ever got published became a hit for Ricky Nelson. We also discuss what it was like winning over the hard-to-please crowd at the legendary Apollo Theater, getting signed to Atlantic Records, and writing a #1 hit for Dolly Parton.Of course, we save room to get the story behind how the TV show Family Ties helped propel a six-year old non-hit of his to the top of the charts.
Billy Vera is a multi-faceted performer, songwriter, actor, producer, bandleader of The Beaters, and entertainment industry Renaissance man. He’s written numerous hit singles, including “Mean Old World” by Rick Nelson, “Make Me Belong to You” by Barbara Lewis, Dolly Parton’s #1 country single “I Really Got the Feeling,” and “At This Moment,” which rocketed to the top of the Billboard pop rankings following a memorable usage on the popular TV show Family Ties. He made his charting debut as an artist on Atlantic Records with the self-penned Top 20 R&B single, “Storybook Children,” a groundbreaking interracial duet with Judy Clay. Other Billy Vera songs of note include Bonnie Raitt’s recording of “Papa Come Quick (Jody & Chico)" and “Room With a View,” a modern blues classic that’s been recorded by Eric Burdon, Johnny Adams, and Lou Rawls, who released a handful of albums co-produced by Vera . The long list of additional artists who’ve covered Billy’s songs includes The Shirelles, Robert Plant, Fats Domino, Don Williams, Gregory Isaac, Etta James, Nona Hendryx, Tom Jones, Little Milton, Steve Goodman, and George Benson. Vera launched his acting career with an appearance in the cult classic film Buckaroo Bonzai, and went on to appear in Oliver Stone’s The Doors, the Bruce Willis movie Blind Date, and TV shows such as Alice, Baywatch, Boy Meets World, and Beverly Hills 90201. A noted music historian, Billy has produced over 200 reissue albums, earning multiple Grammy nominations, and a 2013 win for his work on the Ray Charles box set, Singular Genius: The Complete ABC Singles. His historically-oriented radio show, Billy Vera’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party, earned him a Peabody Award for Excellence in Radio Broadcasting and led to a career as a voiceover artist. He is the voice of major advertising campaigns by Burger King, Honda, Toyota, Mercury, and others, as well as the singer of TV show theme songs, including Empty Nest and The King of Queens. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and tells the remarkable story of his varied career in the new memoir, Billy Vera: Harlem to Hollywood.

Billy Vera and the Beaters can claim one of the flukiest #1 songs in pop history. In 1986 a song they wrote and recorded in 1981. "At This Moment", was chosen to appear in an episode of Family Ties. It caused such a stir that it eventually propelled the song to the top of the charts in January of 1987. What most people probably don't realize is that Billy had already been around for 20 years writing songs for artists like Ricky Nelson and Dolly Parton, not to mention a couple of hits on his own. And, he's continued to reap loads of success since "At This Moment" by diversifying into acting, voice-over, and jingle writing. He's done and seen it all and conquered almost every corner of the music industry. http://billyverabigband.com/

But, Billy is best known for his surprise #1 hit in 1987, “At This Moment,” which gained popularity from being included on the hit TV show Family Ties. Yet, he’s also an avid music historian – writing liner notes to countless CDs.His latest project is penning the notes to the brand new Little Richard box set called Directly From My Heart, from Specialty Records, and Concord Music Group.

SPORTS!! For those that know me you KNOW I LIKE TO WATCH THEM! Some I have played myself formerly and as a pastime. I keep up with stats a lil bit, but I can't quote to you who had the most points for a specific team past 3 years. Mostly I watch for the excitement of the moment and entertainment in provides. I am competitive, but i can be a team player, also traits of an athlete. I tend to mostly watch the big games like the Playoffs, Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Championship, March Madness, College Football bowls, and BOXING/UFC MATCHES that are worth it (nowadays mostly UFC!) Like most people I guess you can say I have my favorites teams of course and specific players that have game, but I am not FANATICAL about any of them. I like who I like, cheer for em, talk smack when they playing great, make excuses when they lose, and look forward to seeing again when life permits it. But much like music, it is one of those things that I could not envision the world without. I love a great match-up of two teams or competitor going head to head. I love sports bars cause they have TWO things I like, sports and drinks! So tonight I want to talk about mines and the callers favorite sport, team , players and more. Here are the questions: 1)Whats your Fav PRO/COLLEGE Basketball, Football, Baseball team and player and also Fighter? 2) Who was the best ever in those sports in YOUR opinion? 3) Have you ever played a sport? 4) Whats the best PLAY, or GAME you ever witnessed (live or TV) 5) What's the biggest news in sports to you AT THIS MOMENT?
