Folks, let me give you a piece of advice; when your AdBlocker subscription is about to run out and you have a TV night planned for your employees - please remember to renew that thing immediately. You have no idea how mad people get when they're forced to watch the same Fruity Pebbles commercial fifty seven times… I'm your host, Dave, and joining me as we rot our brains with some good old fashioned late 90s and early 2000s kids commercials are fellow tv-philes and recovering Waffle Crisp addicts, Mike, Jackie, and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include a plea to the kids of the past to stop eating so much damn sugary cereal!!!; we long for the journalistic integrity of Nick News; and finally, we pour one out for AOL, the internet juggernaut of the 90s. Be sure to rate, review and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can also Follow Us on Twitter, Like Us on Facebook, or shoot us an email at apocalypsevideopod@gmail.com What are some of your childhood commercial favorites? Were you a Cookie Crisp kid or a Chips Ahoy! fan? Let us know, we wanna hear from ya. And if you want to watch along with us as we rot our brains on this episode, be sure to head over to YouTube to check out the best commercials that 1999 Nickelodeon and 2003 Toonami have to offer. That'll do it for this episode, folks. Remember to include some non-sugary cereals in your breakfast routine once and a while, and for god's sake, whatever you do, do NOT eat the Lunchables Burgers - they're not as delicious as you think they are.

After decades of mindless kids programming on network television, there was a push for more educational TV in the early 1990s. The idea they claimed was to help children learn about recycling and the environment, but the real reason was more sinister. The goal was the create a generation of political and social activists through subversive propaganda, and that seems to have worked.   Check Your Brain's Tony Mazur believes shows such as Captain Planet, Nick News, and Bill Nye the Science Guy were designed to cultivate a class of egalitarians and cause division in households. About Zurin: On Broadway, television, and film Zurin Villanueva has been performing professionally from the age of 15. Her first professional role was reenacting the narratives of enslaved children for Nickelodeon's program Nick News. At 16, she won Amatuer Night at the Apollo with her tap group, Loud and Clear. Zurin made her Broadway debut amongst the living legends, Audra McDonald, Billy Porter, Brian Stokes Mitchell, choreographer Savion Glover and director George C. Wolfe in Shuffle Along.  Zurin's most cherished roles were Charlayne in Ain't Misbehavin', hand picked and directed by Andre DeShields. Whom recently received a Tony and Emmy for his role in the original Broadway Cast. Then went on to star as Josephine Baker in a new self-titled musical, directed and choreographed Maurice Hines, "the" rap dance icon of Hines, Hines and Dad. Since going to Broadway Zurin has continued non-stop. She performed as an original cast member in Mean Girls, The Musical, becoming the first Black Plastic "#blastic" when she debuted as Gretchen Wieners. In her New York principal debut Zurin starred as Dionne Davenport in Clueless The Musical opposite Dove Cameron. Ben Brantley of the New York Times deemed her performance “appealing”. Pre pandemic Zurin recently played Nala and Shenzi in The Lion King on Broadway. She also starred in Teenage Dick, a high school adaptation of Richard the Third at Pasadena Playhouse as Lady Anne. The LA Times called her portrayal “searingly honest”. Although Zurin has many talents she will always be an actor first. She is also a writer, having written poems since she was a child. Zurin is currently working on her first feature film. Last but never least she has started a coaching business built to teach actors new to Broadway how to successfully navigate the business without burn out. Ostensibly designed to discuss three large news stories in the general vicinity of 1994 - Michael Fay's walloping adventure in Singapore, the epic showdown between Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan at the Lillehammer Olympics, and the violent dissolution of John and Lorena Bobbitt's marriage - this entry in the IHOY catalog spends the most time gushing over the sheer genius of one "Weird Al" Yankovic, whose '94 song "Headline News" forms the basis of this discussion. Dial in as Sarah & Joe talk about their earliest memories of the famed parodist, his classic albums Bad Hair Day and Even Worse, his Christmas songs and polkas, and their personal favorites from his vast repertoire. Sarah's off-handed suggestion later to tag Weird Al on Twitter leads the hosts down the road of other random celebrity interactions they've had online, roping in such disparate notables as Nick News' Linda Ellerbee and former American Idol host Brian Dunkleman! And yes, loyal listeners, "Stuck in a Closet with Vanna White" makes another triumphant appearance on the show! Planned as a straight news episode, transformed into a Weird Al lovefest, intense media scrutiny and songs about lasagna are given equal time in this splashed-across-the-front-page thirty-eighth episode!

Meredith Walker has deep roots in Texas, but her career and life passions have taken her all over the world. It's an unscripted pathway that she wants to encourage other young women to consider. “If you think you're allowed to try a lot of things, then you'll try a lot of things. But if you feel like this is what's acceptable, you'll kind of stay there.” Walker got her feet wet working with acclaimed journalist Linda Ellerbee and Nick News. Rising from intern to producer at warp speed, she traveled the U.S. interviewing children for the Peabody and Emmy award-winning series. When an opportunity to join Saturday Night Live presented itself, she jumped on it. Head of Talent for SNL was an exhilarating experience and also where she met actress, best friend, and long time collaborator Amy Poehler. Through their shared experiences, the pair recognized a gap in content for young girls. What started as an online “clubhouse” primarily for girls has evolved to become an inclusive, positive online community for anyone who identifies with its mission of positive self-identification and advocacy. Walker travels to promote that mission for Smart Girls and beyond. She served as the journalism envoy for the U.S. State Department Bureau of Culture and Education's mission to the Al Za'atari and Emirates Refugee Camps and visited remote primary-care clinics on delegations to Haiti and Malawi. Her new interview series, Life Unscripted with Meredith Walker on Nelda TV builds upon the same premise of filling a gap in important content by telling the stories of interesting and dynamic women. Says Walker, “They've reached a place where they're not letting society define who they are or what success means for them.” Living “unscripted” is a maxim she has embraced herself. “It's been an interesting and winding journey. I had a sense of the kind of person I wanted to be in the world. I had no idea how I would get there. I'm just so glad I made it.” Her advice—“The way that you ‘unscript' your life is, first of all, understanding the difference between what other's expectations are and what you really want.”
