Episode SummaryErin and Rachel spend a lot of time wringing their hands over the mature themes in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), Disney's animated film about a bell ringer in medieval France. The film underperformed at the box office; apparently, a children's movie about adult sexuality is a bell you can't un-ring. The depictions of disability and race induce further cringing that the dazzling music and visuals can't completely overcome. Join the party! Episode BibliographyAstier, H. (2014, February 13). On December 9, 1965, residents in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and several other states, as well as Canada, observed a strange ball of fire streaking through the afternoon sky. Various reports indicated locations where the object was believed to have fallen, with the majority of them centering in on the rural community of Kecksburg in southwestern Pennsylvania. But what was the object, and what actually happened later that night as the U.S. military went in search of it?  This week, following news and an analysis of the long-lost Calvine UFO photograph from Scotland, we reopen the case files on the Kecksburg incident. Was there really an object recovered, and why did NASA lose its files on its investigation? Or is there another explanation for the event entirely? We explore all these questions and more this week on The Micah Hanks Program.  The story doesn't end here... become an X Subscriber and get access to even more weekly content and monthly specials. (The Unsolved Sighting in 1966) *** Some are beloved favorites like “The Wizard of Oz”, others you may never have seen, like Atuk. Some are dark in tone like “Poltergeist”, or heroic like the first Superman movie starring Christopher Reeve. But one thing all of these films and the others I'll share in this episode have in common is that they are all supposedly cursed. (Infamously Cursed Films) *** But first… some believe them to be ghosts, others feel they are creatures or even humans from a different dimension. Still others believe they are demonic entities. Whatever the truth about what they are, the one thing everyone agrees about is that an encounter with a shadow person is undeniably terrifying. We begin with that story. Tom Davidson & Gwen Titley | Veterans of Beaver Valley On episode 34 of Veteran Voices: The Oral History Podcast, we have a conversation with Tom Davidson and Gwen Titley, part of the creative team producing the Veterans of Beaver Valley oral history series of The Beaver County Times.     When the travelling replica of the Vietnam War memorial came to Beaver, Pennsylvania in 2015, local newspaper editor Patrick O’Shea and journalist Tom Davidson of The Beaver County Times were so moved by the experience, especially the public's interest in veterans' stories, they wanted to honor veterans themselves by using their newspaper as a platform to capture and share the experiences of local veterans. Shortly thereafter, the Veterans of Beaver Valley series was launched, profiling local veterans of all eras and branches of service through multimedia presentations in print and through digital online media. To date, Tom Davidson and his team--including videographer Gwen Titley and a host of still photographers and digital media specialists--have preserved the stories of more than twenty-six veterans.  The Veterans of Beaver Valley series continues to enjoys immense popularity with local veterans and the community.
