It's a new year!!! Yup we've officially entered into the year 2025!! 2025?!?! Am I the only one who feels like I'm somehow living in "the future" even though the supposed future is now? LOL That being said, here we are at the forefront of another new beginning ;) In this episode, my first of the new year, I share my thoughts on, yup you got it, NEW BEGINNINGS, and how every second of the day can actually be a new beginning if you choose! I'm personally finding real joy and relief in the concept of new beginnings happening all the time. On October 16th, 2024 I traveled from East Coast to West Coast to attend the musical celebration of life for Robbie Robertson, lead singer of The Band. It was being held on October 17th at The Forum in L.A., a venue I had never been to, and the artists performing were of a caliber I couldn't possibly miss out on seeing and hearing! Calling all concert goers! This summer I headed West, back to my previous Eagle County, CO homebase, to spend 3 months working as much as possible, so as to pay off all my bills from the previous 3 months ;)  I did work almost 6 days a week for those 3 months, AND paid off all my prior months bills, but I also ended up playing almost as much as I worked ;)  I am definitely a LIVE MUSIC LOVER and this Summer "Tour" 2024 certainly filled my soul with some SUPER SWEET SOUNDS!  I actually began my adventure in Vegas taking in 2 nights of Dead and Company at The Sphere!! Do YOU love NOLA? Jazz Fest? Are you thinking of going to either OR both in your future? Are you a live music lover? If you have the tiniest bit of interest in any, or ALL of the things I mentioned than I believe you'll hear something that resonates with AND inspires you in this episode :) I went to New Orleans, for Jazz Fest, for the first time 3 years ago. It was the first Jazz Fest after the pandemic shut the world down, and I could hardly wait! A friend was supposed to join me, but because certain places were still requiring a vaccine card they opted out. I entertained the idea of not going, for about 5 minutes, and then begain to solidify my plans! I have since fallen in love with the Crescent City!! I attended solo and have gone back every year since! The first year I attended the first weekend of Jazz Fest, last year I attended the 2nd weekend, and this year I stayed for the whole shabang :)  I've released a few prior episodes: #'s 11, 12 & 46, in which I share about my experiences during each visit, and here I am again about to share all about my first 5 days of Jazz Fest 2024 AND MORE!!!  My intention is to provide you, in a 3 part series, with tips on getting around, info on the place I stayed, and a peek into the many venues where I took in live music, along with my Jazz Fest specific experience ;)  I saw SOOOOOOOO many concerts in my first 5 days! A good portion of my time on planet Earth has been spent daydreaming, projecting or dwelling, longing for things to be different, filled with a desire to be doing anything OTHER than what I was doing at the time. On January 30th I officially kicked off my 2024 musical adventure around the sun with a performance by the Benny Hill Jazz Quartet! It was a spectacular benefit event raising money for the Cape Fear Community College's music department and it was a few hours WELL spent!! I spent my late teens, 20's & early 30's in a rather unwell mental state. I was roaring through the world like a tornado, generally unaware of how my behavior was regularly harming those around me and equally harming myself in ways that had me in a viscious cycle of self abuse.Although I knew something was "off" with my mental health, I honestly didn't know what to do about it. So I drank and drugged my way through most of it, and when that made things even worse I drank and drugged more! That went on pretty much until my life hit a serious bottom on December 19th of 2000. Shortly thereafter I consciously embarked on a journey of recovery and self discovery which introduced me to the concept of mental wellness!! Since then I've been on an upward trajectory that has taken me places, emotionally and physically, that I never thought possible. One of the most important lessons I've learned thus far is that my mental health MUST matter to me! It's wonderful if it matters to others but MOST IMPORTANTLY is that it matter to me because if I'm not motivated to work on myself then it doesn't matter what others may have to offer. In this episode I share about what a fantastic adventure I've been on since making MY mental health a priority, along with sharing ideas that may be helpful to you. My mental wellness journey has allowed me to grow and heal in ways I never thought possible AND by caring for myself I've been able to be there for others who are hip to hopping on the positive mental health caravan ;)  If you happen to be struggling in the mental health department I hope you hear something that inspires you to keep moving forward. Boundaries? What are those?! Aren't they something you set while playing basketball, or other sports? You set them to block the other person out right?! Or don't they relate to property lines? Yup! That's what I thought for quite some time ;) Boy oh boy, was I rather surprised when I eventually learned that boundaries were also something I could set within my relationships! EMOTIONAL boundaries! What a concept ;) And even more surprising was how often I had disregarded other peoples boundaries due to my being ignorant of the concept ;)  I'm happy to say I've come a long way baby!! These day's I relish in setting boundaries! The growth that has taken place within, and the countless relationships that have been saved OR ended by setting them has been well worth every bit of time taken to become more familiar with the process and most importantly has been the willingness gained to continue to practice setting them :)  Join me as I share my experience with boundaries, or lack thereof, along with sharing some examples that you can begin to implement yourself! Here we are again! Where? At the end of a calendar year and beginning of another! Whether we feel as though we're "ready" to start a new chapter it's happening regardless ;) Thanks goodness for the concept of "One day at a time", because that's all we really ever have. That being said, here's to a clean slate! A new beginning! Well here we are again! Where? A recent challenging life experience made it very clear to me that I am truly living a life beyond my wildest dreams! The experience itself wasn't some sort of immediate tragic life altering situation, but rather something that most likely happens to MANY of us, and possibly even on a daily basis. That being said, this experience really brought into focus, for me, how this life I'm living is better than anything I would have chosen for myself. It's my birthday! A year & a half after moving from Eagle, CO, a place I had spent 27 years of my life & a place I never thought I'd leave, I decided to venture back.  My original reason for leaving was spurred on by divorce, house sale, inability to afford living there on my own, as well as a need to decompress, and so I headed to NC to spend time with my parents.Although I initially planned to head back to CO I found myself comfortable in where I was and no longer feeling the almost unbearale pull to return "home". That being said, I still had a desire to return for reasons other than just going back to see friends and possibly pick up work shifts from some previous employers.What were those reasons? I wasn't really sure. I couldn't pinpoint what was feeding my inner desire to return to the place where I felt I had lost so much.  Well... now that I'm here I'm finding answers to all my questions! First & formemost I discovered I've come back to leave differently! I originally left feeling angry, sad, mad, overwhelmed, afraid, and as though I was being pushed out! I felt very much like a victim.  Well now I'm going to leave on MY terms! :) But it's taken me returning to realize the purpose in my returning ;)  Have YOU ever felt as though you had to leave somewhere before you were ready? Ever felt the need to return to, or revisit, a place/job/relationship/etc. that you felt you had "unfinished" business with?  If so, perhaps you'll hear in this episode something that inspires you to go back and find closure so as to honestly & authentically get on with YOUR life. As of today I am truly living my BEST life! A life beyond my wildest dreams! After recently helping my little Dude Chip transition from this life to the next, I felt the deep desire to pay homage to all of the doggies I have had the pleasure AND honor to share time with.  They ALL taught me lessons on loving, and those that have passed on have surely taught me lessons due to their dying.  In prepping for this episode I thoroughly enjoyed reflecting on each furry babe and their impact on my life. And although the grief felt from their departure was unbearable at times, I wouldn't trade a second of it if it meant not getting to feel all of the joy they have added to my earthly experience thus far. I know I'm not the only one who has fallen fastly in love with a member of the animal kindgom ;) There is no question that we are blessed beyond measure for getting to share time with each and every fur, or furless, babe that graces us with their presence :) And for those not yet familiar with gaining the friendship, and eventual love, from the many animals on the planet: STOP WASTING TIME AND INVITE AN ANIMAL INTO YOUR LIFE :)  My deepest condolences to those of you who have also felt the loss of a furry or furless companion...  I send endless prayers for courage, grace and humility to those of you nearing the experience of helping your loved one cross over the Rainbow Bridge... And most of all I gently suggest that all of ya'll pet parents out there make it a priority to soak up every bit of time with your babes!! They are never here long enough.  I hope my sharing inspires you to reflect on your own experiences along with the countless lessons your furry/furless family members have provided or will eventually provide you ;) All of my love... I've recently been reflecting on how much life happens "in the hallway". You know, that space between one door closing and the next one opening ;) I used to find that space intensely uncomfortable, and was often "frozen" while waiting for the next thing to happen... THANK GOODNESS I've come to realize that THE HALLWAY is the place to be!! As mentioned, its the place that life is actually really happening! It is THE NOW, rather than the past or the future. And yes it can still be very uncomfortable, but that's because it's often a space of uncertainty, or limbo as its also called. That being said, my experience has shown me, and continues to show me, that uncertainty doesn't have to be scary or always uncomfortable. It can be exciting and exhilirating, when appropriate, and yet the difficult times will always lead to spiritual growth, should I opt to take on that perspective.  Here's to finding comfort in the hallway! On 2-2-23 I attended Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros opening night concert for their Winter Tour! It was also Groundhogs Day AND what would have been my 13th wedding anniversary. It was recently brought to my attention that my fear of others contempt for me is alive and well, and trying to steer me off course. So here it is, the Finale to the Triple Whammy in full effect!! We are ALL presently in the midst of the fast & furious transition from 2022 to 2023!! It's taken 365 days to arrive and then just like that, BADA BING BADA BOOM we're into another chapter of this earthly experience! I don't know about ya'll but I'm WHOOPED!! LOL ;) I gotta fully admit that 2022 pretty much kicked my ass, BUT more importantly is that I kept kicking it back!! And that's what really matters, at least in my opinion. IT'S HERE!! What's here? CHRISTMAS!! And before we know it it'll be gone ;) Yup, here we are heading around that final curve which leads to the end of another 365 AND the beginning of the next! But before getting too far ahead of ourselves, here's to the 2nd of our Holiday Trifecta: The holiday that celebrates the birth of Christ, Santa Claus, and the support of capatilism ;) The holiday where many of us humans spend too much money, eat too much food, and place WAY too much self imposed pressure on ourselves, AND others, to be jolly.  If your anything like me, your answer to the question, "Are you ready for Christmas?", is, "to be over?" ;) A bit cynical I know, and yet it's often much more honest than any other answer I could offer.  That being said, I'm steadily gaining traction in the practice of detaching from the societal madness, and instead focusing on figuring out what this time of year truly means to me. Have I figured it out? It's the Triple Whammy time of year! "What's that?", you ask? It's the time of year between November 24th & January 2nd , that encompasses 3 of the biggest "holidays" on the planet! At least that's the way I think of this time of year ;)  If your anything like me, and I'm pretty sure there's at least a few of you who are, then this time of year can be pretty emotionally overwhelming. SO many expectations, along with equal let downs... SO many perspectives regarding what this time of year is about, that I often find myself losing focus on what it actually means to me.  In this episode I share my own experience with trying to maintain something that resembles an "attitude of gratitude" during the "Holiday Season", along with some of the practices that help pull me out of the pit when I inevitably fall in from time to time ;)  If you struggle at all with the so called "Most Wonderful Time Of The Year", then perhaps this episode will help pull you back to center and regain the focus and footing necessary to not fall into a pit of despair, or at the very least help you OUT of that pit ;) Here's to us finding AND maintaining attitudes of Gratitude & Acceptace, along with feeling Joy & Serenity, one day at a time, by relieving ourselves of the defeating message that this time of year is any different than the rest of the year. I LOVE live music! I LOVE acronyms, and 2 of the best I've heard, pertaining to the word "fear", are as follows: Fuck Everything And Run OR Face Everything And Recover. So... I'm not the kind of person who uses the phrase, "...one of the best concerts I've ever been to...", lightly. That being said, last night's Infamous Stringdusters concert, at the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater, WAS literally one of the BEST concerts I have ever been to!!!  There was no laser light show, no fancy stage set up, no gimicky distractions... Nope. Just a group of 5 INCREDIBLY talented guys doing what they obviously enjoy doing: PLAYING THE MUSIC THEY LOVE!!  I felt their love, as did all the other attendees, which was shown through the crowds hoots, hollers and whistles of approval :) It was a performance not to be missed, and man oh man am I grateful I chose to attend ;)  I do know that from this poing on I'll NOT miss any shows that are within a reasonable proximity to wherever I am! Lately I've been asking myself pretty regularly, "Where the hell am I and where am I going?" Be it figuratively or literally I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's uttered those words ;) I happen to be in the midst of a whole new life experience! Just when I hoped that I might be finished with my grieving process, I find this exasperating emotion has come back to spend some more time with me. The truth is that I was being ridiculous in thinking that my grief was gone for good ;) It's just that I'm not so keen on feeling this particular emotion, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that regard. BUT that being said, I am aware that the only way out is through, and so forward I continue to trudge... with my pal grief by my side. I had the recent pleasure of celebrating the one & only Jerry Garcia, with 1350 other fortunate souls! The event was: The 4th Annual Port City "Jerry Day"! And it took place at the Greenfield Lake Amphitheater, located in Wilmington, NC :) Not only was it a celebration of Jerry, but it was also a fundraiser for The United Way! MUSIC SWEET MUSIC... Yup, I'm coming to you with another music oriented episode!! This episode is all about the band I've recently come to love: "Into The Fog"! An article from Blue Sun Entertainment describes them as: "...a genre-jumping string band based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. I LOVE music!!! It certainly soothes the savage beast within me, and I imagine it does the same for many of ya'll as well ;) I've never been much of a "Bucket List" kind of gal, yet it was hard to not resonate with the idea when an opportunity to fullfill a desired earthly experience recently presented itself to me. It's official!! I'm a "Shy" again! In this episode I chat about my personal experience AND feelings connected to the name change process.  I changed my name after getting married... and now that I'm officially divorced, and transitioning to becoming a resident of another state, I figured it was about time to come full circle by getting back my independant status, via taking back my maiden name. Yup, I've found for me that a name does matter ;) Heads up: It wasn't an easy process. And there was surely emotional grief involved, along with paperwork grief! LOL AND I still have the tedious follow up of changing all my credit cards, bank accounts, online accounts, ad infinitum.  GOOD GRIEF. There was a time when the idea of being "independant" scared me to death! I used many things that kept me in a very dependant state of body, mind AND spirit.
