NoorJehan Tourte, Millennial, joins Yo to talk about friendship, love, and values. About NoorJehan: After unexpectedly making it to the semi-finals of the 2022 Sports Illustrated Swim Search Competition, she has made it her mission to get women excited about the prospect of falling on their faces, over and over, if it means they are making their one life on this earth count. She believed that becoming a Sports Illustrated model would represent the culmination of a lifetime spent searching for her true identity, but the experience helped her realize that her childhood dream was not only to be a cover model, but also a role model, one who empowers ladies to show the world every side, from every angle, unapologetically. Amidst the multitude of societal pressures put on women to conform, she wants to reassure her fellow females that living the life you painstakingly cultivated for yourself is worth even the worst of days, the worst of moments. Because wouldn't you rather stumble living life, than squander it standing still? Here are 3 takeaways from today's episode: 1. Values play a role in friendships and perhaps the most important are authenticity and having a “judgement-free” zone. 2. Broken trust is perhaps the key reason friendships end. 3. The emotion of empathy may be a lot easier to say than to really practice.. Mentioned in the Episode: Ep. 112, Eww: Failure Resume Ep. 114, Ego Check: Unpacking Authentic Confidence in Leadership with Christie Garcia. Ep. 115, Part 1 – Inside Out: Unveiling the Layers of Internal Family System with Uri Talmor Priya Parker's book: The Art of Gathering “Why Friendships End and How to Cope” More About NoorJehan: NoorJehan is currently a Group Senior Vice President Brand Strategist at healthcare advertising agency AREA 23. Prior to working in advertising, she was a U.S. Brand Marketer at Pfizer and a healthcare consultant at PwC. She holds an MBA from Columbia University and an MPH from UCLA. She has a passion for storytelling that is universal, and believes this can be done if we all lead with empathy. Check out: www.fgpbar.com. Christie Garcia is a passionate and introspective thought leader whose journey began with a deep dive into the intricacies of the human ego. Recognizing the reactive and emotionally charged nature of modern life, Christie became fascinated by the unintentional behaviors, mindsets, and beliefs often unknowingly cultivated within individuals and organizations. Her curiosity was first sparked by a personal exploration of her own ego, which led to a broader understanding that these patterns were not only typical but a fundamental aspect of societal and business structures. In this episode, Rosie and Christie discuss the imperative of showing up fully and authentically, not just for ourselves, but to create a positive ripple effect in our world. They highlight the significance of owning our actions as a pathway to a more human workplace and delve into the three ego types that Christie identifies – the complier, the protector, and the controller. If not balanced, each of these can transform from strengths to detrimental behaviors in leadership. Let's get started! Formalized or not, we all seek points of view (maybe even validation) to check ourselves. Being on the right track, getting results, and making the best decisions are weighty responsibilities. By default, it is commonly thought that confidence comes from knowledge. In actuality, confidence comes from being tuned in. How do you make the right decision at the right time? Have an outside set of eyes. This could be coaches and consultants asking the hard questions that enable you to develop yourself and your approach and your confidence in making decisions to propel you toward your biggest goals. The more we can separate ourselves from the influences of people, situations, and tasks that seem urgent — the more we can assess to prioritize the right work. In this program, you will hear three ways to measure success (and choose the metrics to measure), how to change the point of view to find the real problems, and that even when it doesn't feel like it — you can choose what work to prioritize. Jess Dewell hosts Catherine Morgan, Transition Expert at Point A to Point B Transitions; Christie Garcia, Founder & Ego Management Expert at Mindful Choice; and Dave Newell, President at Evolve Leadership Consulting, to talk about the importance of having an outside set of eyes on your business and what makes it bold to bring in external perspectives to shape your business strategy. —--------- If you want to continue to look for inspiration to creatively or innovatively approach decision-making and problem-solving, use the experiences of other business owners who have created great companies. Try Fast Track Your Business today to keep learning and growing and stay intentional as you work strategically on your business. -------------------- Feel like you need a bit of help with some business direction? Then ACT to Plan by contacting Jess for a Business Base Camp Consultation. You'll discuss your aims, where you are, and where you should be to move deliberately toward your team-building goals! -------------------- You can get in touch with Jess Dewell on Twitter, LinkedIn or Red Direction website.
Does your ego get in your way and hold you back from greatness? Your ego is your unconscious brain that is usually motivated by old past beliefs, mindsets and habits that you aren't even aware you're doing. We live in a very reactive world—our egos are feeding on everything from social media rants to tabloids and news headlines, all designed to emotionally manipulate us for the benefit of the source. But ego isn't always a bad thing, in fact, it can be a real strength. It's only when it's left uncontrolled that it can unintentionally damage our relationships with loved ones in our personal life and with customers, colleagues and peers in our business and career. The good news is, you can change the role your ego plays in your relationships and make small but significant changes that add up over time and allow you to show up for yourself, and those around you, in a far more productive manner. Christie Garcia is a Leadership Coach, Speaker, Facilitator, Contributor to Forbes Coaches Council, and Founder of Mindful Choice Leadership Academy. She has 19 years of experience in sales, recruiting, and leadership development. For the last decade she has worked with current and upcoming leaders from fast growing organizations including Airbnb, Twitter, Movement For Life, Sunrun, and Oakley. Christie builds programs that help individuals and teams maximize their impact through self-awareness, ownership, communication, alignment, and accountability. One of Christie's super-powers is helping her clients identify and manage their Ego in real time. Her clients build authentic confidence so they can communicate more effectively and maximize their impact within their professional teams and personal relationships. This is a modern approach that is designed to be simple. You just have to choose to be 1% better every day. “Our ego is our unconscious brain that is usually motivated by old past beliefs, mindsets and things that—habits that—we aren't even aware we're doing,” says Christie Garcia. Understanding this unconscious reactivity is important. The increased reactivity of today's world, according to Garcia, is fueled by social media and news headlines meant to emotionally manipulate. We all perceive situations and comments differently, but when we're unconsciously being driven by our egos, a neutral statement can be taken personally and blown out of proportion. In order to consciously control our egos, we have to want to become better than the unconscious actions our egos provoke. Even if that means doing just 1% more every day, as Garcia suggests, we have to take ownership of our own actions and inspire others to do the same. ---- Christie Garcia is a leadership coach and the founder of Mindful Choice Leadership Academy. Today we're going to talk about our ego (and for the record, we all have an ego), and how to manage our own as we work to become better humans. I'm joined by Christie Garcia, a Leadership Coach, Speaker, Contributor to Forbes Coaches Council, and Founder of Mindful Choice Leadership Academy. One of Christie's super-powers is helping her clients identify and manage their Ego in real time. Her clients build authentic confidence (which is my favorite kind) so they can communicate more effectively and maximize their impact within their professional teams and personal relationships. Even though we use the word ego often to describe the dark side, the reality is there IS a healthy side. Our opportunity lies in understanding and managing it. And at the end of the day, we all have ownership over our beliefs, actions, words, and decisions. I believe that there are lots of influences and contributing factors, but at the end of the day YOU get to be responsible. In short, It's ok to have an ego, your ego just shouldn't have YOU. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Christie Garcia discuss:The power of the unconscious mind The three types of ego How to counter your own ego Growing in understanding of yourself and others Key Takeaways:The unconscious mind got you where you are and it will lead you to that next chapter where ego is going to play a role in your life, relationship, and business. Your unconscious mind impacts everything. There are three types of ego: the controller, the compiler, and the protector. Each of us typically has all three of those egos, but with one or two of them being dominant. Your ego thinks fast, it's triggered by emotion, and when it's triggered it becomes defensive. The way to counter this is by taking a breath, being calm, and being conscious of your mindset. Once you bring awareness to yourself, look at what's really happening in the room and try to correct the direction of the discussion.Normalize it, get to the root, and just carry it. Don't give yourself any judgment, but make sure to recognize that you have ownership. Then, you are able to empathize with other perspectives around the situation. "Normalize it, get to the root, then now just carry it. Once you have a level of self awareness and ownership, you can get really curious as to why do [you] do that. That's how you uncover those belief systems and mindset." — Christie Garcia See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I Connect with Christie Garcia: Website: www.mindfulchoiceacademy.comInstagram: https://instagram.com/mindfulchoice_Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mindfulchoiceLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christiegarcia/ Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/Twitter: https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370 Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine Talla Audio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Christie Garcia is a California-based leadership coach, speaker, facilitator and founder of the Mindful Choice Leadership Academy. Christie has worked with a number of prominent organisations, including AirBnb and Twitter, and one of her specialities is helping leaders manage their ego. She talks about the role ego plays in our approach to leadership, and what measures we can take to contain it and make sure we're utilising it in a way that makes us better and more empathetic leaders.
Today's guest, Christie Garcia, and I share one of my biggest pet peeves about corporate America. We do not train or teach people how to go from being an independent contributor to being a manager or leader. Instead most companies think they're doing you the employee a favor by giving you a promotion that includes leading people and assume you'll figure it out. Being a great producer and being a great leader are completely different skill sets. Christie has taken this frustration and created her company the Mindful Choice Leadership Academy where she is helping managers and leaders of all kinds to step into the mindset, approach and perspective that allow them to be not just great, but transformational leaders.

But we've all had those meetings, the ones where everyone leaves nodding their heads and believing they're all on the same page... only to receive an email several hours later from someone who wants to critique or change the plans. Ego loves drama. And ego drives all the little actions we take to get through everyday tasks. When we don't take time to focus, align, communicate our needs, and hold ourselves accountable, ego gets in the way of success. Fortunately, Christie Garcia is here to explain the upside to ego and the 6 Pillars of ego management. You do not want to miss this deep dive into ego and how you can lead a successful, drama-free team!

Controlling your destiny with a leadership coach, speaker, facilitator, and the founder of Mindful Choice. Christie Garcia is a Leadership Coach, Speaker, Facilitator, and the Founder of Mindful Choice. After ten years within the walls of corporate business, working as a recruiter and in sales management in the healthcare industry, Christie increasingly grew frustrated watching talented individuals be promoted to management and fail to reach their leadership potential. She began to realize that these shortcomings were a result of the lack of resources available to develop managers into great leaders. These individuals had been praised for years based upon their own individual success (the “I” mentality). However once promoted, they struggled to turn the corner and adopt a big picture perspective and the “We” mindset. There was an unrealistic expectation and lack of guidance to help them transition into this new perspective and a deeper level of self-awareness. Christie realized that it was time to ditch the “old training model” and create programs focused on developing leadership effectiveness. She now seeks to reintroduce the human element into leadership development and immediately make an unignorable, positive impact on a person's overall potential.

Christie had a life changing fall from a 30ft fire escape. Luckily, she walked away damage-free and a reality check to start living her next chapter. Christie courageously left corporate America and started her leadership coaching business. She shares these nuggets of life wisdom: - trust your inner voice - be brave, courageous and follow your north star - you have the tools within you to make it work - don't be afraid to fail - learn to identify the difference between excitment and anxiety - through mindfulness, get clear on what story you are telling yourself - identify the value that you bring to the world - increase your awareness to see the opportunities presented to you Christie Garcia is a Leadership Coach, Speaker, Facilitator and Founder of Mindful Choice. Christie has 15 years of experience in sales, recruiting, and coaching. Eight years ago, Christie had a life changing fall from a 30ft fire escape. Luckily, she walked away with no physical damage and a huge reality check to start living her next chapter. She courageously left corporate America and started her leadership coaching business, Mindful Choice. Over the last 7 years she has worked with leaders from fast growing organizations including Airbnb, Twitter, Oakley and Sunrun. Christie builds programs that help individuals and teams maximize their impact through self-awareness, ownership, communication, alignment and accountability. Her services include: Leadership and Management Development, Productive Communication, Ego and Self-Management, Team Building, Offsite Retreats, Speaking, and Event Facilitation. Christie’s newest project is called, The MANifesto. This leadership program supports the growth and success of all good men who want to be better leaders, husbands, dads, friends, and men in our world. As a strong confident woman, I recognize the confusion on masculinity and the role men play in today’s world. I know that we need strong confident men to do business with, to raise families with, and to support us when life gets hard. One of my super powers is bridging the gaps between feminine and masculine energy so relationships thrive, and communication is productive. The MANifesto is designed to give men back their voice, so they can show up 100% and use the strength of their masculinity to empower our businesses, families, and communities to be more successful. This is a modern approach that is designed to be simple. I can typically double or triple your current response rate...but a 50 to 100 times increase isn’t out of the question.
