To celebrate International Women's Day, which falls on March 8th, Bababam is replaying Do You Really Know episodes which look at the struggle against inequalities between women and men. On se sent souvent trop ronde ou pas assez pulpeuse, trop petite, trop grande, un nez trop long, trop large, les cuisses trop grosses, les jambes arquées ou un bidon trop proéminent... Bref souvent nous ne sommes pas satisfaite du corps que nous avons à disposition.  Pourtant certaines d'entre nous arrivent à trouver la sérénité dans l'acceptation... D'ailleur on parle beaucoup du mouvement body positiv créé en 1996 par Connie Sobczak et Elizabeth Scott, dont 'objectif est de lutter contre les diktats de l'apparence, avec le message clair qu'il faut aimer son corps tel qu'il est et l'idée que tous les corps sont valables. Mais est-ce vraiment si facile d'aimer son corps entièrement tout le temps ? Est-ce que les filles minces qui font un 36 / 38 ont vraiment des complexes? Et concrètement on fait comment pour apprendre à aimer son corps ? Je me suis assise autour de la table rose avec 3 femmes qui ont bien voulu partager leur expérience avec nous. 3 femmes, c'est 3 visions et 3 perceptions différentes du corps qui arrivent parfois à se rejoindre sur certains aspects. Un podcast en 2 parties où Sharon, Laura et Mayté m'ont  parlé du regard qu'elles portent sur leur corps ainsi que de celui porté sur elles par les autres. Régimes, complexes, troubles alimentaires, grossesse et dysmorphie ont également été évoqués. Des sujets qui reviendront d'ailleurs certainement dans des épisodes dédiés, tant il y a à dire dessus, et que nous n'avons pas eu le temps de les aborder en profondeur. Nous avons même eu un petit débat sur la nouvelle génération de femmes qui mettent leurs corps en scène. Débat bien entendu tout en bienveillance, car nous ne sommes pas des harpies! Finalement les filles partagent aussi avec nous quelques pistes pour arriver à se sentir mieux dans nos corps. J'espère que cet épisode vous plaira, et je vous souhaite une belle écoute! D'ailleur on parle beaucoup du mouvement body positiv créé en 1996 par Connie Sobczak et Elizabeth Scott, dont 'objectif est de lutter contre les diktats de l'apparence, avec le message clair qu'il faut aimer son corps tel qu'il est et l'idée que tous les corps sont valables. Mais est-ce vraiment si facile d'aimer son corps entièrement tout le temps ? Est-ce que les filles minces qui font un 36 / 38 ont vraiment des complexes? Et concrètement on fait comment pour apprendre à aimer son corps ? Je me suis assise autour de la table rose avec 3 femmes qui ont bien voulu partager leur expérience avec nous. 3 femmes, c'est 3 visions et 3 perceptions différentes du corps qui arrivent parfois à se rejoindre sur certains aspects. Un podcast en 2 parties où Sharon, Laura et Mayté m'ont  parlé du regard qu'elles portent sur leur corps ainsi que de celui porté sur elles par les autres. Régimes, complexes, troubles alimentaires, grossesse et dysmorphie ont également été évoqués. Des sujets qui reviendront d'ailleurs certainement dans des épisodes dédiés, tant il y a à dire dessus, et que nous n'avons pas eu le temps de les aborder en profondeur. Nous avons même eu un petit débat sur la nouvelle génération de femmes qui mettent leurs corps en scène. Débat bien entendu tout en bienveillance, car nous ne sommes pas des harpies! Being busy sometimes sounds like you are really getting the most out of your time, when in fact it might be the opposite. Conflict coach and certified mediator, Emily Taylor, calls this “punting conflict” and she joins us to share how we can express that we just aren't ready, willing or available to talk about difficult topics.  Overcoming What Else (1:04:38) We are told at a young age that “the world is our oyster” inspiring us to dream big and seek out the best in life. While we do have endless opportunities the constant search for the next best thing might do us more harm than good. It is estimated that one-third of married couples in the U.S. met online, and about 15 percent of adults have used dating sites or apps. But sometimes taking the first step to make an online profile can be intimidating, and there are a lot of bad stories out there about dating online. We are joined by the editorial director of Bumble, one of the most successful social media dating apps. Clare O'Connor will share with us some of her dating profile tips as well as how people can stay safe online.

What is body positivity ?Body positivity has taken over social media in the last few years. The movement is based on the relationship we have with our bodies, encouraging us to achieve self-acceptance.The drive took off in 1996 thanks to two American women. Elizabeth Scott, a psychotherapist, was contacted by Connie Sobczak, who was victim to an eating disorder at the time. In honour of her dead sister, Sobczak created the Body Positive movement along with Scott. The organisation encourages individuals to change the world, rather than feeling the need to change their bodies . The two founders continue to offer seminars and other group training sessions to this day. Body positivity posts can be found all over Instagram, with hashtags alongside photos of people of all body types and morphologies.Body positivity is first and foremost an ideology, rather than just a collection of photos. The movement helps those with self-image challenges to love their bodies. Getting started is really simple. Stand in front of a mirror and say out loud the things you notice most about your body. Most people mention their supposed flaws before anything positive.A body positive attitude will help you see these “flaws” as qualities and therefore actually appreciate them. The idea is that you say what you like about yourself and show off your flaws, rather than hiding them. This helps us to feel beautiful and love ourselves. Which in turn allows us to overcome fears and break down taboos.Check out the story of breast cancer survivor Ericka Hart for example. She became a body positive symbol by posing topless following breast reconstruction surgery. Consider this as your time to calm down, take a deep breath, and tell yourself that it's going to be ok. Our guest, Rachel Ritlop, is here to give us her tips for saving money during Thanksgiving time. She is the founder of the lifestyle blog “The Confused Millennial” which covers important topics such as family finances. Bitcoin Basics (0:17:10) There's a nebulous new force creeping into the edges of the American economy. In 2009, an anonymous person online found something fascinating: virtual gold in an online resource called Bitcoin. This faceless programmer created a system where online mathematicians can “mine” for this gold, and then use it as money. Money that isn't regulated by the government. Struggling with an eating disorder for many years, Michelle Vina-Baltsas faced her fears and addressed her issues. She talks about her current relationship with food, and how she learned to love herself. Michelle also describes how she treats herself with kindness. Q & A Why do you think self love is important? It’s the foundation of my life. When I’m not in self love, I’m in bashing, and that’s not a good place for me to be. There’s no happiness there. What was the number one thing that was holding you back from accepting self love? For me it was that I had to do it perfectly. I didn’t realize there were degrees – like I could get there. I thought, what about taking baby steps in between working for towards that. When I did that, I felt much better. Who is one person who has changed your life for the better? My Husband. I feel his love all the time. What is the best advice you have ever received? Everything I need is already inside of me. What is a self care habit that you practice regularly? Meditation for me is a daily practice that has dramatically changed my life. Do you have a favorite quote? “I praise you for all I am, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Scripture. Can you share with us a resource or an app that we can use to help our own self care practice grow? I highly recommend “Calm.” It’s a free app with wonderful guided meditations. What book are you reading right now? Embody: Learning to Love Your Unique Body, by Connie Sobczak. What is the one thing that you are most passionate about? Helping women to see that they are enough. . . just as they are. Because they, too, are fearfully and wonderfully made. Has your daughter ever eaten a big bag of Cheetos and then fifteen minutes later run out of the room and screamed, “I’m so fat.” Monitoring teenage girls and their food choices can be tough for moms. You can tell your daughter is struggling with her body image and you try to calm her down and she gets angry. You try to hold your daughter accountable by asking her if she really wants that second Crave cupcake and well…she doesn’t say thank you mom. Moms know that a healthy diet is important and when we try to help our daughters it can quickly go to drama. In this episode I interview Connie Sobczak, the author of Embody: Learning to Love Your Unique Body (and quiet that critical voice!). She is an educator, speaker, filmmaker, and co-founder of The Body Positive, a non-profit organization where, for the past 20 years, she has skillfully and lovingly reconnected teens and adults to their body wisdom to make more balanced, joyful self-care choices. Her Be Body Positive Model offers a guide for people to create a relationship with their whole selves that is guided by love, forgiveness, and humor. Connie’s experience with an eating disorder in her teen years and the death of her sister Stephanie inspired her life’s work to create a world where all people are free to love their bodies. She raised her daughter, Carmen, in The Body Positive community, where children and teens learn to value their authentic beauty and identity, and use their energy and intellect to make positive changes in their own lives and in their communities.
