Much beloved Australian Music Festival Splendour in the Grass has been forced to issue a statement to ticket holders, declaring that patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a 'responsible adult'. Their statement in full reads: Dear Splendour community, On Friday night all of our underage ticketholders received an email from Moshtix informing them of late developments regarding Splendour's Liquor License. In a nutshell, the message was this… ALL PATRONS UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A RESPONSIBLE ADULT AT ALL TIMES WHILST AT THE EVENT AND CAMPGROUNDS. This is not Splendour's decision. These new rules have been imposed on us by NSW Police. We were only informed of this late Thursday and we are very unhappy about these major changes being forced on the festival at such a late stage. We understand the impact it will have on many of our patrons. We also don't want you to walk away with a fine. So we want you all to be aware that Police will be present at the event, roaming throughout the crowd checking that underage minors are with a responsible adult. Considerable fines may apply if not compliant. Splendour will also be in breach of our liquor licence, which will have major consequences. More information can be found in our FAQs and our Youth Policy. The ONLY place you can purchase tickets for accompanying responsible adults is via the resale facility, where all monies go to the previous ticket holder. To register as a responsible adult accompanying a minor, please fill out this FORM. Best wishes, Splendour in the Grass Thanks for listening! Be sure to subscribe for more content. Kathryn Mora has spent many years marching to her own drum, having been a SoCal journalist, a professional clown, a standup comedian, an author and now a columnist featured regularly in The Claremont Courier.  Kathryn first provides a bit of background and a basis for her approach to life, both in the past and now.  She then expands on her series of articles on having "never been old before", which relate the experiences that many of her age have certainly encountered.  Kathryn then offers extra insight into her past and the current experiences that form her approach to life at her age, including commanding due respect and not being dismissed or marginalized for being older, and how she has successfully worked with people that may treat older folks differently; who do so simply because they don't understand the person's extraordinary value derived from the decades of experience most people of her age possess.Kathryn Mora's uplifting and encouraging narrative shows that one's spirit, attitude and well-earned right to be heard is key at any age, but inarguably essential as one continues on life's journey.  Recorded outdoors in Memorial Park, one might notice a few technical issues - cuts, edits and sound adjustments - but Kathryn's genuine and heartfelt core message comes through with perfect clarity.  Everyone who enjoys her articles in the Courier should give Kathryn's episode a listen to understand further the mind, heart and passion behind her published prose.  And, after listening, should you meet her or interact with her at The Courier, convey how you like her articles and enjoyed her first podcast...and that her voice is making a difference.

Colleen: Weight was never an issue for me. Everyone in my family was slim and I was a pretty small child. At one point my pediatrician told my mom that I was too small. It wasn't until around 2013 that I slowly began adding weight on. I have never been someone who weighs every day, but I began to notice that every season I'd have to buy bigger clothes. I could tell I was getting bigger and I didn't like to look in the mirror or have my picture taken but that was never really enough motivation to do anything about it. Then in June 2020 Jeremy's younger brother, Jason, died unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. That was the wakeup call we needed to get our lives back in order. We had a young toddler and knew we had to find a way to lose weight and get healthy for her. I was 244 pounds when we started. My results were immediate, I lost 20 pounds in the first month of fasting. I was down to 186 pounds by April 2021. Jeremy: I was born into an obese family. “The Bryant's are big people” is a line I've heard many times over the years. I had two brothers who looked like the other Bryant's but I was thin and “scrawny.” My entire childhood, I felt left out and always wanted to be the size of the other Bryant's. It wasn't until my metabolism slowed down after high school that I put on a bunch of weight and became obese. I loved it. When I was 24 and, in the Army, I weighed 260 and was 50 pounds heavier than the maximum weight the Army would allow someone of my height. I was given an ultimatum: lose the weight and keep it off or leave the Army. I lost 50 pounds by cutting calories and eating 3 meals with snacks between, and exercising. I quickly gained back all of those 50 pounds. Instead of trying to lose the weight again, I chose to leave the Army early. For the next 20 years, I never got below 280, maxing out at 308. Whenever I would get past 300, I would buckle down and lose 20 pounds or so, only to gain it back. My two brothers and I were all diagnosed with diabetes in our early to mid-40s. In 2020, just after Covid hit, one of my brothers had a heart attack that he survived, and my little brother had a heart attack that he did not survive. He was 47. My older brother had been reading Dr. Fung's books and told me and my wife all about them. We immediately started OMAD, but even doing OMAD, I wasn't always eating healthy foods when I would eat. I ate a ton of sweet Thanksgiving and Christmas goodies at the end of 2021 and had my bloodwork done at the doctor on December 27. My A1C was 13.2!!! I was shocked!!! Even with OMAD, my diabetes was out of control. On the night that the results came in the mail, my wife and I sat down and had a heart to heart about my health. I had hit bottom and was ready to change my life. My wife had read the Fasting Highway, and went and grabbed it and read me some excerpts from it. I could relate to everything, including the secret car binges, etc. I made a vow that evening to stop eating sugar, in all its awful forms. I made list that night of things that I would improve. There were no goals. I just stopped doing them. Since making the change, we immediately started losing weight again. In 3 months, my A1C dropped to 7.0. I've lost 46 pounds. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/graeme-currie/message

Get early access to our latest psychology lectures: http://bit.ly/new-talks5 This talk will describe how we can evolve more nurturing societies. The human and biological sciences have converged in recent years in showing that individuals and human groups are most likely to thrive in nurturing conditions. Nurturing environments minimize toxic biological and social conditions, richly reinforce diverse forms of prosocial behaviour, limit influences and opportunities for antisocial or unhealthful behaviour, and promote psychological flexibility, which involves mindfully acting in the service of one's values. Considerable research has shown how we can create these conditions. The talk will review what we know about the development of antisocial behaviour and antisocial groups. It will then describe family, school, and community programs and policies that foster prosocial development. Finally, it will describe the growing movement to promote prosociality around the world. -- Anthony Biglan Ph.D. is a Senior Scientist at Oregon Research Institute and President of Values to Action. His book, The Nurture Effect: How the science of human behaviour can improve our lives and our world, describes how behavioural science research has brought us to the point where it is possible to evolve a society in which virtually every person is living a productive life in caring relationships with others. His new book, Rebooting Capitalism: How we can forge a society that works for everyone, explains how we evolved a form of capitalism over the last 50 years that has impoverished millions of Americans, undermined the regulation of harmful business practices, and corrupted most of the major sectors of society. The book provides a roadmap for how we can evolve a more nurturing form of capitalism. -- Links: Check out our next event: http://theweekenduniversity.com/events Dr Anthony's website: https://tonybiglan.com Dr Anthony's books: https://amzn.to/2Or2WZQ -- This episode is sponsored by our upcoming “Mind-Body Psychotherapy” Online Conference, taking place on 29th May, 2022. Considerable potential for Northern Cape's mining sector if challenges can be addressed

MiningWeekly.com Audio Articles

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 10, 2022 5:43

The Northern Cape's mining sector is growing and can contribute positively to the country, but challenges such as aged infrastructure, poverty, high unemployment, inequality and illegal mining must be addressed, while exploration needs to be scaled up. This was said by Mineral Resources and Energy Deputy Minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane, at the Northern Cape Provincial Mining Investment Conference, in Kimberley, on March 10. Nkabane emphasised that the conference must look at how exploration could be scaled up, as it was pivotal to the region's investment drive. “There are already numerous mining companies across the country, but the drill and shovel will stop when the known mineral reserves get depleted. That is why we must look into ways of fast-tracking exploration in this investment conference. “On our part, we hope the Exploration Strategy will pave the way in this regard, and we will endeavour to ensure that relevant legislative instruments are in place to ease mining investment,” said Nkabane. She said collective efforts and dialogue must result in a re-invigorated engagement between the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) and the provincial government, as well as social partners, to jointly drive the growth and development of the sector. Nkabane acclaimed that the Northern Cape was a commodity-rich province with a wide variety of minerals, including, among others: diamonds, manganese ore, iron-ore, lithium, rare earths, fluorspar, zinc, copper, lead and molybdenum ore, with these widespread over a vast georgical area. She acclaimed that these mineral resources could help catapult the provincial economy to become a major contributor to the national gross domestic product. She also highlighted that mining was growing at a steady rate in the province. For example, between 2011 and 2021, the Northern Cape office received more than 204 applications for mining rights, over 3 145 applications for prospecting rights and over 960 applications for mining permits. However, she said that one of the key issues that must be dealt with was the number of non-operational mines in the province, for reasons that include a lack of investment, disputes among stakeholders, life-of-mine having been reached and mineral resources having been exhausted, as well as some cases of financial distress. Some of the strategic interventions that the DMRE must commit to were, among others, to fast-track Section 11 applications, as well as to facilitate arbitration in disputes in collaboration with other institutions, Nkabane said. She said that pivotal to these efforts would be for the DMRE to engage with the sector more actively, especially the emerging and junior sectors beyond the areas of regulation and policy only. “The department must actively seek to facilitate, promote, and retain investments in the sector, in a deliberate and focussed manner,” emphasised Nkabane. She also highlighted the importance of transformation in the sector. With regard to social and labour plan (SLP) projects, she said it was important that the local communities must be central to these developments, and must jointly identify the types of interventions to be undertaken. Moreover, she said that mines should collaborate more closely and co-invest in high-impact and high-value economic infrastructure development projects that contribute to further economic expansion in these areas. Nkabane also called for continued and enhanced mining exploration as the cornerstone to the future of the mining industry in South Africa. “Working with the industry, we have compiled an Exploration Strategy which among others aims to ensure that we attain at least 5% share of global exploration expenditure within the short to medium term,” she noted. In terms of energy use, Nkabane said that currently, the sector's reliance on coal as a primary source of energy was at 75%. “We have committed to progressively contribute our fair share as part of our approved Nationally Determined Cont...

Like every year prior to 2020, the past year was another tumultuous year in the world of cyber liability. Considerable movement in the market and the cyber landscape has changed exponentially – and not for the better. Threat actors have become more sophisticated, resulting in an increase in data breaches, phishing attacks and more. Understandably, there was increased pressure put on the markets from a claims perspective. Brian Dunphy and David Finz, Alliant, sit down to discuss the ever-changing landscape in the regulatory world, both at the state and, at the federal level as other states ramp up consumer data privacy protection.

Episode Summary: The headquarters planet, Jerusem, is a physical body of extraordinary beauty. It provides a foretaste of the wonders of Paradise. Information coming from higher realms comes to the system capital and can be accessed by all residents. “Considerable portions of Jerusem are assigned as residential areas, while other portions of the system capital are given over to the necessary administrative functions involving the supervision of the affairs of 619 inhabited spheres, 56 transitional-culture worlds, and the system capital itself.” What is The Urantia Book? The Urantia Book is a collection of written works that blends science, philosophy, and religion. It contains 196 papers on topics such as the nature of the universe and its creator, the history of our planet, what happens in the afterlife, a detailed account of who Jesus actually was, what makes us humans and individuals, and the goal of human evolution. The book continues to grow in readership worldwide with numerous translations currently available. Access to the original book and its translations can be found at https://urantia.nyc/tc/searchengines/#seDLC. What is Urantia21? The original text of The Urantia Book was created in the style of the early 20th century. Now, a century later, writing styles and social attitudes have evolved to new levels. Urantia21 is an attempt to restate the magnificent teachings of The Urantia Book in keeping with those contemporary protocols. This restatement primarily addresses two major themes: First, while the original text uses gender-specific nouns and pronouns throughout, Urantia21 has been developed using gender neutral language. This is particularly important when referring to spiritual beings, to whom material sex-based gender is not applicable. The second theme has to do with titles for the First Source and Center of all reality. Urantia21 has utilized titles which are not based in any particular religious tradition, except where a named tradition is being described. The written text of these recordings can be found at urantia21.online, and the original text of The Urantia Book is available free on numerous websites. It seems "considerably lower" net interest margins sent a sizeable number of investors elsewhere. The mortgage business is tough. The local bourse slid through much of the day finishing down XX at XX with the materials sector also proving a weight. Nufarm was the worst performer, down xxx despite posting FY21 revenue of $3.2B up 10%. On the bright side, Uniti Group lived up to its 'stock of the day' title, outperforming and ending up xxx as it looks set to track or outperform consensus. A Considerable Speckby Robert Frost (1874-1963)A speck that would have been beneath my sightOn any but a paper sheet so whiteSet off across what I had written there. And I had idly poised my pen in airTo stop it with a period of inkWhen something strange about it made me think,This was no dust speck by my breathing blown,But unmistakably a living miteWith inclinations it could call its own.It paused as with suspicion of my pen,And then came racing wildly on againTo where my manuscript was not yet dry; Then paused again and either drank or smelt,With loathing, for again it turned to fly.Plainly with an intelligence I dealt. It seemed too tiny to have room for feet,Yet must have had a set of them completeTo express how much it didn't want to die.It ran with terror and with cunning crept. It faltered: I could see it hesitate; Then in the middle of the open sheetCower down in desperation to acceptWhatever I accorded it of fate.I have none of the tenderer-than-thouCollectivistic regimenting loveWith which the modern world is being swept. But this poor microscopic item now!Since it was nothing I knew evil ofI let it lie there till I hope it slept.I have a mind myself and recognizeMind when I meet with it in any guiseNo one can know how glad I am to findOn any sheet the least display of mind. In this bonus episode, you'll meet Anna Brown, founder and program director of the Great Aussie Hike – a fantastic initiative that I am absolutely delighted to be an ambassador for. The Great Aussie Hike was developed in 2020 by a small group wanting to do something to help the mental wellbeing of our community after long periods of lockdown and isolation. It focuses on human connection, goal setting, physical activity in nature and mindset development that mates support each other to work through. The aim is on establishing new skills and lifestyle habits that reset and strengthen mental wellbeing after long periods of lockdown. It began as a one off, but due to the success of the inaugural cycle and with the need only increasing, it has returned with a new program and an exciting challenge set for April 2022. The structure remains a volunteer-led, not for profit organisation with 100% of funds invested into the safety and support of participants. The program concludes with a team walking challenge. Teams can choose from different distances – 30km, 43km, 57km and 100km (completed over two days). Participants can walk one section or the entire distance. Teams just have to conquer their distance goal collectively as a group, allowing for all members of a friendship group to participate in some way. The challenge is set to wind around the stunning Mornington Peninsula on April 1-2, 2022 exploring a number of the region's hidden treasures and smaller townships. Considerable focus has been placed on developing a course that is diverse, achievable and rewarding. Teams on day one also get to enjoy a ride in the Arthurs Seat Eagle to climb to the top of the summit. You can find out more, and sign up here >> www.greataussiehike.com.auFollow on instagram >> https://www.instagram.com/greataussiehike/Follow on Facebook >> https://www.facebook.com/greataussiehikeRegister for the info evening on the 24th November here >> https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZEvdO2orjwrHNIFSzMMaCIOzhrXKPQ_FJseSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
