Episode #206 In this Fasting Q&A episode, hosted by Coach Lisa Chance, Dr. Jason Fung answers questions from the TFM Community: Are there common strategies that help to avoid the common pitfalls of Ramadan, like late night eating, overeating, or accidentally doing OMAD for too long and slowing down the metabolic rate? [01:07] Concerns about off-label use of GLP-1s. Some medical professionals seem to be prescribing GLP-1 medications for anti-aging/longevity purposes in people who aren't overweight or diabetic. What do you think about the trend of “microdosing” GLP-1s as a preventative health measure? [02:36] Are there further short and long-term side effects of GLP-1s coming to light? [06:36] Are there ethical concerns around supply issues with GLP-1s due to increased demand from off-label use? [ 10:12] Are there bioethical concerns about GLP-1s that doctors should be discussing with patients? [12:03] Can you address how people with Type 1 diabetes can develop insulin resistance similar to those with Type 2, sometimes referred to as ‘double diabetes'? [16:21] How concerning is an elevated Lp(a) and how can you lower it? [20:47] Do you know of research or trials with fasting to reduce prostate size? [26:28] Can someone who is considering kidney donation fast/fat fast? [29:08] I'm seeing many reputable sources saying that the claims against seed oils aren't actually based in the science. I'm curious whether Dr. Fung's opinion has evolved on this? (41:00) Sugar is one of the most harmful things you can do to your body, along with alcohol and cigarettes. (43:00) Vinnie doesn't lie to get people to buy products, nor does Anna. They help people without saying you *need* to buy their products to be successful. They do not lie! (48:30) The couple is not doing their own work and is taking money from unsuspecting followers. Anna finishes the Honey Diet article. (54:00) Be warned: it's absurd! These 5 colon issues and gut problems can wreak havoc on your skin's health!1. An altered microbiome means your gut contains more bad bacteria than healthy gut microbes. It's often caused by diet or antibiotics. An altered gut microbiome can cause inflammation that can become systemic, leading to rosacea. 2. SIBO is a condition where gut microbes are in the wrong place. Most microbes should be in the large intestine, not the small intestine. SIBO can lead to nutritional deficiencies, inflammation, arthritis, and rosacea. 3. Gut inflammation symptoms include pain, tightness, or bloating. Gut inflammation is typically caused by diet, with gluten being one of the most common culprits. The more gut inflammation you have, the less you can absorb zinc. Zinc deficiencies are one of the most common causes of skin rashes. The carnivore diet is very beneficial for people with gut inflammation.4. If you have chronic gut inflammation, you may lose your gut villi over time. This can diminish nutrient absorption, especially the absorption of vitamin D. Many autoimmune skin issues are directly related to low vitamin D. You can increase vitamin D with supplements, sun exposure, and certain types of light therapy.5. If you've had your gallbladder removed or you have low bile, you may develop skin issues. Without enough bile, you won't be able to break down and digest the fat-soluble vitamins, especially vitamin A. To increase vitamin A, consume beef liver or cod liver oil. Ox bile, purified bile salts, or TUDCA can help if you have a sluggish gallbladder or have had your gallbladder removed. To improve gut and skin health, take a good probiotic and consume fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, raw milk cheese, yogurt, and raw salad from the garden. The carnivore diet can significantly improve gut health, reduce skin issues, and improve autoimmune conditions. If you have SIBO, do intermittent fasting and OMAD. Try acidifying the stomach with betaine hydrochloride or apple cider vinegar. You can make your own L. reuteri probiotic mixture to improve your gut and skin health significantly. L. reuteri can live in the small and large intestine and has multiple benefits, including improved digestion and the improvement of skin issues like acne.

Welcome to the Purple Patch Podcast! On this episode, IRONMAN Master Coach Matt Dixon, host of the Purple Patch Podcast, discusses the Win Cycle program, designed to help leaders and teams achieve consistent performance. He emphasizes the importance of "nailing the basics" for high performance, drawing from his experience coaching elite triathletes. Dixon highlights key habits, such as the "Sunday Special" for reflection and planning, consistent fueling after training, adequate sleep, and regular strength training. He criticizes performance trends lacking a scientific basis, such as blood type diets and bioresonance devices, and warns against the OMAD diet for its nutrient gaps and energy instability. Dixon advocates for a simple, science-backed approach to build a performance-based layer for sustained high performance. Want to tell me something? Send me a text!Is being a stay at home mom enough? Well, i'm trying it on and seeing how it feels.I often looks for another person to be an example of what i want (or don't want) and use that as permission to allow myself to start doing that thing(try One Meal a Day fasting option) or stop doing something(going to parent teacher interviews).SO this time i decided to be that person first of being a stay at home mom and feeling that IT IS ENOUGH. What do you need permission for right now? What do you wish you could see an example of and feel it is ok to be that way? Well you can start that before you find that permission, just give yourself that permission now. In today's episode, I'm getting real about the fasting mistakes I've made over the past 17 years — and how they've silently sabotaged fat loss, triggered muscle loss, and even led to cortisol-driven belly fat. You'll learn: Why fasting without fat adaptation leads to metabolic damage How to become fat adapted in 7 days using the 2-2-2 Rule
Graham & Angus discuss the science, benefits, and myths of intermittent fasting—from popular methods like 16:8 and OMAD to deep dives on autophagy, metabolic health, and hormone regulation. They explore how IF can support fat loss, muscle retention, and long-term wellness when done right—emphasising it's a powerful tool, not a magic fix.

Click the Link for DATES, DETAILS, and FAQs! In this eye-opening episode, Dr. Scott Watier and Tommy Welling explore research that challenges conventional eating patterns, revealing how shifting calories to earlier in the day can dramatically improve weight loss results. The hosts break down a study showing women who consumed their largest meal at breakfast rather than dinner lost 2.5 times more weight while experiencing significantly better insulin sensitivity, reduced hunger, and improved triglyceride levels. They explain how our bodies process the same calories differently throughout the day due to circadian biology, which explains why evening-heavy eating patterns often lead to frustrating weight loss plateaus despite caloric restriction. This episode offers practical strategies for adapting your fasting schedule to leverage these biological advantages, including alternatives to the popular but less effective dinner-focused OMAD approach, providing listeners with actionable ways to improve their fasting results without increasing hunger or complication. In this second repeat episode, we revisit with Leslie Taylor. Thank you for your patience as i take a break to deal with a family bereavement of a loved one. We will be back next week with our regular lineup of guests. Show notes from Episode 158 Leslie Taylor is a stay-at-home mom and grandma and has worked as a medical website content developer. She enjoys taking complicated medical information and presenting it in a creative and easy-to-understand manner for the general public. She is currently writing a book on fasting called Fast Well Feast Well and will be releasing the content of the book in a free weekly newsletter called FastWell. Leslie was a healthy weight until her 30s when a stressful cross-country move caused her to suddenly gain 25 lbs (11kg). This is when her dieting history began. She tried Weight Watchers and other calorie-restrictive diets. Each time she lost some weight initially but then regained back even more. She tried keto in 2018 but found it too restrictive, losing only 10 lbs. and then plateauing. Then her dad passed away in January of 2022 from heart complications from having type 2 diabetes for 30 years. She got on the scale and found she weighed 180 lbs. (81 kg), which was 50 lbs. (23 kg) above her comfort weight. Her blood sugar numbers were pre-diabetic. She knew something had to change. She had heard about fasting from her sister. Also, her dad had reversed his diabetes through fasting in 2018 but this was too late since his heart damage was irreversible. She began doing OMAD in January of 2022 and faithfully did OMAD every day for 6 months but lost no weight or inches. Then on August 1st of 2022 she started ADF. She is now down 34 lbs., her blood sugar numbers are healthy again, her fasting insulin serum number is A+, and she has numerous NSVs. Graeme is now available for a private one-on-one coaching and mentoring session. He can help you with those burning questions, including how to get started or overcome issues, no matter what phase you are in on your intermittent fasting journey. Howdy. I'm Mike (Michael) Saunders. So, I suppose you need to know me and about me. I live just north of the capital of Alabama, which is Montgomery. I want to say I'm retired, but my friends keep asking me to help them with their businesses. (Quality control) I'm 72 and am currently recovering from Knee Replacement surgery. When I went to the surgeon in December 2023, he, of course, told me that my BMI was too high.I clocked in at 365, then. I'm 6'1". I got serious in February about losing weight so I could have the surgery. My goal for surgery was 331. I have a friend in Mississippi who has lost 145 doing IF, so I asked her all about it and then began to research it. I dove in, and by May, I was at 310. I mostly did a 4:3 for the last two months of that. I would mix it up with OMAD and TMAD. For years since turning 40, I have yo-yo dieted with South Beach, Atkins and every other craze. IF has been the only thing that is easy for me to do. I reached my second goal of 300 a few weeks ago. Now, on to my third goal of 200. Then, to do IF for life. In this podcast, I'm going to tell you how to fast correctly for the most fasting benefits without any negative side effects. Fasting CAN help you live longer! Fasting activates longevity genes, which reduce inflammation and help improve conditions like diabetes and prediabetes. They also protect the cells against disease. Avoid making these 6 fasting mistakes that can destroy your results. 1. Fasting for too long There are 2 types of fasting: intermittent fasting and prolonged fasting. Pay attention to how you feel when fasting. If you don't feel well, the fasting pattern is not right for you. You have to build up to a prolonged fast, and you don't have to do OMAD to get fasting benefits. 2. Not getting enough dietary protein The type and amount of protein in your diet are very important. Animal protein is the best! Red meat, eggs, lamb, fish, seafood, and organic pasture-raised chicken are the best sources of dietary protein. When you do OMAD, your body becomes more efficient, and the requirement for protein decreases. 3. Avoiding cholesterol You need cholesterol, especially when fasting. Cholesterol is needed to make hormones, tissues, bile acid, and more—so you need plenty of it! Egg yolks, liver, and shellfish are the best sources of cholesterol. 4. Forcing an intermittent fasting pattern that doesn't work for you Let your body tell you which fasting pattern will work for you. Pay attention to how you feel. 5. Too much exercise while fasting For some people, exercising while fasting causes too much stress on the body. This can make it difficult to recover and cause muscle loss. 6. Not getting enough sleep can minimize the benefits of fasting.
