Kimberly Gold joins Nick in Studio 809 to talk about being a new city councilor! That's right, alongside Brandy Williams, Tom Bailey and Roland Rainey Jr., Gold is one of this city's newest legislators. She represents the city's district 4, which encompasses the southeast area of town, including the airport, that has been historically underrepresented and aching for economic development. She successfully ran to replace previous representative Yolanda Avila, who was a fierce proponent for the district and is now running for an El Paso County commissioner seat.Thomas Jefferson did have a recipe for ice cream and apparently popularized the French creation (or at least, that's where he got his recipe from), but he didn't invent it. At any rate, let's talk about ice cream! And city government! And in the soapbox, let's talk about school zones and how we prevent people from running over students.Follow BNLO on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok!0:00 Splash/Sponsor/Intro0:31 Greetings and Monologue2:50 Ad Break3:50 Introducing Kimberly Gold/Being Courageous6:50 What Does Colorado Springs Utilities Do?10:32 All the Emotions11:50 Opening an Ice Cream Shop16:48 Why Run for City Council?24:33 Running for City Council29:33 E-Biking Across Town36:15 Election Night37:34 Winning a Race39:40 The Role of the City49:26 Settling In53:37 That City Council Daily1:01:23 Being Nice to People1:03:59 The Legislative Work1:10:32 Nick's First City Council Meeting1:14:38 What are you Learning?1:22:44 Interview Closeout1:25:06 Soapbox - School Zones1:44:56 Credits

In June of 1959, a fisherman on the Rio Grande west of El Paso pulled a black suitcase from the slow, muddy current near Montoya, Texas. Inside was a headless, handless torso — mutilated, skinned, and wrapped in the previous day's newspaper. Within hours, El Paso County Sheriff Bob Bailey was standing over what he'd later call “the most brutal murder in El Paso history.” What followed was a multi-state investigation that spanned Texas, New Mexico, and beyond — an effort to name the victim and find the sadist who cut him apart.Over the next weeks, more body parts surfaced downstream and across the desert near Tularosa. Each discovery added a new layer of horror — feet in a sandwich box, organs in a cereal carton, and hands packed in plastic and left in the sand. Every clue pointed to someone who knew anatomy and took their time.Despite help from the FBI, countless missing-person matches, and even a copycat case a year later in New Mexico, the Rio Grande torso murder remained one of the Southwest's most chilling mysteries. The body was never identified, the killer never found. This is Part One of Three of The Torso Murders — a case that haunted El Paso lawmen for years and stretched from the cottonwoods of the Rio Grande to the deserts beneath the Sacramento Mountains. If you have any information about the 1959 Torso Case, please contact the El Paso County Sheriff's Office at (915) 538-2292.Sources: The El Paso Times, The El Paso Herald-Post, The Carlsbad Current-Argus, The Albuquerque JournalYou can support gone cold and listen to the show ad-free at https://patreon.com/gonecoldpodcastFind us at https://www.gonecold.comFor Gone Cold merch, visit https://gonecold.dashery.comFollow gone cold on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and X. Last year, Buc-ee's opened its first Colorado location, an expansive 74,000 square-foot outpost in Weld County filled with beaver-branded merch, brisket sandwiches and sweets. Not too long after that, the company began plans for a second store, landing at a parcel of land about a two-hours drive away in northern El Paso County. But the prospect of a Buc-ee's arriving on the edge of the small town of Palmer Lake quickly became a larger-than-life controversy. CPR's Bente Birkeland, KRCC's Andrea Chalfin and KRCC's Briana Heaney dig into the story behind this big development proposal -- and its big opposition. It's a tale which raises questions around growth, representative government and how communities navigate bitter political divides.Read their coverage: Colorado's governor and senators sign letter asking Buc-ee's to reconsider Monument Hill location In debate over new Buc-ee's, early results show Palmer Lake residents want a public vote and recall of two trustees Buc-ee's gets a thumb's down from the Palmer Lake Planning Commission Here's what the agreement between Palmer Lake and Buc-ee's looks like, mostly. On this week's podcast, Wild Westendorf returns and joins Bob for a varied and lively conversation. They discuss a case out of Wyoming regarding publicly owned land intermingled with private land in a checkerboard layout, and how the private landowner, who has lost previous court decisions, is now asking the US Supreme Court to forbid the public from hopping over his land to access the public lands. While the implications are serious, Bob thinks the idea that someone owns the "air space" over their property is stupid. Also, Bob talks about social media topics where recreationists provide opinions, often not nice ones, about what other hikers wear, or equipment they use, or how fast or slow they hike. Bob wonders why these posters seem to think anyone cares about their opinions and why they think they are necessary. Also, El Paso County is looking for new members of its park advisory board; Bob has added a new gallery to his photography website; and why this podcast isn't also a video production. Slam the Gavel welcomes back Debbie Carroll to the podcast, Debbie was last on Season 5, Episodes 167 and 180. Today we talked about the Frost case:In 2022, El Paso County in Colorado Springs, Colorado, placed four siblings into the homes of their mother and their aunt. Both women were living with registered sex offenders. Three months later, they received a call from the youngest child's school about the boy's terrible physical battering. The Court DID NOT admonish Department of Human Services for their neglectful failure to investigate the women's homes before sending children to them. The judge DID NOT accuse them of reckless child endangerment. Instead, the Court congratulated the Department of Human Services for the good job they had done in the emergency situation they handled at the time!It appears that this judge doesn't know the difference between a safe parent and a crafted scheme to take children from him and put them into a child sex trafficking ring. Instead,in December 2024, she terminated the parental rights of the protective FATHER of the of the children. She ignored the fact that he had contacted the pollice more than 15 times in the two years leading up to the department removing the children from him over allegations that were founded to be false. We will be looking at the documents that show that the department engineered a no-fault plea arrangement that was never made by the father, and the criminal records of the perpetrators that were ignored. To Reach Debbie Carroll: Debbie.car@considerationnonprofit.org***** Supportshow(https://www.buymeacoffee.com/maryannpetri)Maryann Petri: dismantlingfamilycourtcorruption.comhttps://www.tiktok.com/@maryannpetriFacebook: https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/guitarpeace/Pinterest: Slam The Gavel Podcast/@guitarpeaceLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/maryann-petri-62a46b1ab/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@slamthegavelpodcasthostmar5536 Twitter https://x.com/PetriMaryannEzlegalsuit.com*DISCLAIMER* The use of this information is at the viewer/user's own risk. Just after midnight, Kimberlee Singler, 35, calls 911 to report a home break-in. She tells police that her two of her children have been murdered. The police response report says Officers found "an adult female and an 11-year-old female who had sustained injuries," as well as a 9-year-old girl and 7-year-old boy who were "deceased at the scene." Singler's third child, the 11-year-old daughter was transported to a local hospital for treatment. She is hospitalized for a few days and then released. Singler is also treated for minor injuries. As police investigate the reported burglary, Singler works with officers, giving statements about what happened. Then police determined the burglary report is unfounded, and present evidence to obtain a warrant for Singler's arrest, but the mom is nowhere to be found. Since she was not a suspect, Singler was not under surveillance and by the time she needed to be, she was gone. Police uncover an ongoing legal battle between the mom and her ex-husband Kevin Wentz. Wentz's attorneys say their contentious divorce and custody dispute has been going on for over five years. Just three months ago, Kimberlee Singler filed a request for a temporary protection order in El Paso County. She claims Kevin Wentz waved a knife at her. Wentz denies the allegations. Two months later, in a different jurisdiction, a Larimer County court held a hearing on Singler's emergency motion to restrict parenting time over the same allegations about the knife. The court rescinded the order finding there was no imminent threat from Wentz. The court ordered that the children have additional time with their father, Kevin Wentz, around Thanksgiving and again December 16 through December 31. It was arranged for the child exchanges to take place at a police station in Colorado Springs and the Greely Police Station. When Singler failed to show up with the children, Wentz's attorney filed an emergency motion to law enforcement for assistance to enforce parenting time. The Court granted the motion. Wentz was awarded custody. The Colorado Springs police investigation led to the charges against Kimberlee Singler. On December 26th, investigators established probable cause and obtained an arrest warrant for Kimberlee Singler on the multiple charges, including 2 counts – Murder in the First Degree, Class One Felony , 1 count – Criminal Attempt – Murder in the First Degree Child Abuse, and Assault in the First Degree. Details of the arrest warrant are currently sealed under court order and are expected to be unsealed at a later time. Singler was arrested in London and is fighting her extradition.
