The insurance company sets a date to visit your project site or location. They arrive, conduct their interviews and evaluate your business operations. You may receive some recommendations following the visit and then you provide your response. Did you ever wonder what happens after that with the information from that visit? In years past, that report got filed away in an underwriting file, perhaps never to be read again. Today, however, the information, observations, and data from that report can be aggregated and analyzed in new and important ways. The information may feed into an underwriting pricing model to impact premium decisions or even play a big part in the decision to provide a proposal. Beyond that, the data, when integrated with claims data, provides predictive capabilities to help predict and avoid the next claim. The power of that granular information, when harnessed, can have a direct impact on the financial results of the insurance comany and of your own business. Many companies are leveraging the analytics behind loss control information to decrease claims and increase profits. Risk Control Technologies is on the forefront of this data capture and evaluation. We are thrilled to have David Pittman, AVP of Sales for Risk Control Technologies, join us for this episode and share his insights into this new horizon for insurance carriers, brokers, and clients.

Show Notes Survivor David Pittman was raped and assaulted repeatedly by his church's music pastor from ages 12 to 15 in the 80s. The abuser was Pastor Frankie Wiley, and it started during all-boy sleepovers. David reported the abuse to police two decades later, but the statute of limitations expired. He reported the abuse to church leaders, and they told him to keep quiet and that they would pray for him. For this week's episode I talked with David Pittman, an amazing teacher I am lucky to count among my friends. We discussed MC Escher and briefly touched on a few of his works including Circle Limit 3 from 1959. Interestingly, while Escher is often associated with math as his tessellations are enjoyed by a number of mathematicians and held up for their beautiful applications of geometry, Escher himself was not the greatest student and even failed his math courses in school. In a somewhat common theme among the brilliant and successful, he persisted and even seemed to lean in to developing his skills in an area where he struggled. A big turning point came when Escher traveled to Spain and Italy in the early 20th century. At first, he was captivated by the beautiful Italian landscape, but after touring a 14th-century Moorish castle he started to shift his entire approach to art. Escher made sketches of the tile work and the beautiful tessellated patterns he saw then started to apply that patterning to his work. The great leap that he took, however, was introducing representational imagery to the patterns and having figures that shifted through the piece. In his metamorphosis piece, we see patterns of birds that become cubes that turn into a landscape then chess pieces. It is a little bit surreal, almost like an exquisite corpse drawing as seemingly unrelated images flow from one into the next but with an added layer of complexity because of the patterning. As always you can find images of the works we discussed at www.whoartedpocast.com While you are at the website, cast your vote in this week's matchups for the Arts Madness tournament. Duff Goldman is a culinary artist well known for his incredible artistry with cakes. He is part baker, part sculptor, part painter but definitely one amazing artist. His actual name is Jeffery Goldman, but his brother mispronounced it as Duffy and the name stuck. Throughout his life, Duff moved around to different parts of the country: Michigan, Missouri, Massachusetts, California, Maryland but no matter where he was his love for cooking and his incredible work ethic remained constant. Because Duff is a celebrity baker it seemed only fitting that the episode focus on discussion of a piece from one of his shows, so we discussed the Bollywood inspired elephant cake from the competition between Duff and Buddy, another celebrity baker. Beyond Your You - tips to take your health and fitness beyond what you think you're capable of
In season 2 of “Beyond Your You,” we’re going to go beyond where season 1 took us. When I started this podcast in early 2019, my original intent was to interview primarily Orangetheory Fitness coaches to share more training and health tips from them. This season, we’re stretching outside the studio. We’ll still hear from Orangetheory coaches, but I’m also going to talk with people outside of the coaching realm - people like you and me who are plodding along on our personal journey to get fit, stay healthy, and sometimes conquer our own demons. Along the way, we’ll be inspired by people who are doing what they can to make a positive change in their community. With that look into the evolution of “Beyond Your You,” it’s fitting that the guest for the first episode of season 2 bridges both the former and current approach to this podcast.Kaity Wachtel, is an Orangetheory coach who also serves as a running, fitness and wellness coach outside the studio. She was a repeat guest in season 1, covering partner workouts – love ‘em or hate ‘em – and explaining what it takes to become an Orangetheory coach. In this episode, Kaity will talk about:How she’s going to “Show Up” in 2019 and why she chose that personal mantra for the yearThe activities scare her – and that she’s going to take on in the next few monthsHow she plans to “Show Up” for family and friendsWhat drove her to write in her blog, “Life isn't about avoiding challenges, risk, and pain. It's about collecting the scars and bruises to prove that we SHOWED UP for our lives.”Hear all about her plans so far, and offer her suggestions on how to complete her big, scary year.Follow Kaity on her blog, Rebel with a Cause, and on Instagram @coach_kaity or Facebook facebook.com/kaity.wachtelFollow your host, David Pittman, on Twitter @TheSocialPitt and Instagram @TheSocialPittTell your friends to listen and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.

As Director, he manages one of the most diverse research organizations in the world – seven laboratories located in four states, with more than 2,100 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and a $1 billion annual program. Dr. Pittman is also the Director of Research and Development and Chief Scientist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In that role, he is responsible for creating policy and performing strategic planning, direction and oversight of research & development for the Corps’ Military and Civil Works programs and for the Warfighter. President Donald Trump finally unveiled his plan to lower drug prices last week, and on this week’s episode, POLITICO looks closer at what’s in the strategy and how it builds (or doesn’t) on the Obama administration’s own efforts. First, POLITICO’s Sarah Karlin-Smith discusses her reporting on the Trump administration’s drug plan (starts at the 2:05 mark), what’s in the bill and how it’s being received. Then after the break, Tim Gronniger — who served as CMS Chief of Staff and led the agency’s work on drug spending under the Obama administration — discusses his impression of the Trump plan (starts at the 14:05 mark), and what he learned from Obama-era efforts to try and lower drug prices, which met with significant resistance and were largely stalled. Stick around for a new segment — “Steal My Job” (starts at the 37:00 mark) — where Tim discusses how he got his jobs in the Obama administration and tips for people interested in a similar career path. GLOSSARY OF TERMS ON THIS EPISODE Average sales price (ASP): A manufacturer's sales of a drug divided by the total number of units, which is used to help set government reimbursement. Biosimilars: A type of product that’s highly similar to existing FDA-approved biologic drugs (like Remicade) but intended to offer a lower-cost alternative. Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs): A third-party manager of a prescription drug program that helps insurers and others negotiate on drug prices. Drug companies say that PBMs are middlemen that drive up prices. Tonight's special guest is David Pittman from Ft Lauderdale, FL, a returning NAASCA family member. Dave is Exec Dir of Together We Heal and South FL area support group leader at SNAP (Support Network for those Abused by Priests). He's spent years on a healing journey that continues to this very day. This led him to seek out groups specifically for men as well as those who had been through a similar trauma and ultimately inspired the foundation of Together We Heal. TWH is focused on providing counseling and guidance for those who have suffered the trauma of childhood sexual abuse and educating the public on matters of CSA. As the Executive Director of Together We Heal, David works to educate the public through speaking and collaborating with other groups to raise awareness and expose the sexual predator's methods. TWH now works with therapists, counselors and groups aiding both men and women in their efforts to heal, grow and thrive. TWH is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization, funded in part by angel donors who give from their hearts to make this work possible. TWH wants to thank them publicly for their generosity and support of survivors of CSA.
