Welcome to this impacting episode of Light ‘Em Up!We are grateful to you for joining us. Please tell a friend about us!  Remind them that they can find our full catalogue here on every major platform where you get your podcasts! How often do you see or hear where a person who is suffering extremely from some type of a mental health crisis which ends with the person being killed at the hands of law enforcement? Once is too many. I've observed this far too many times to count.Tonight, we center our investigative journalistic focus on: Policing the mentally ill. This is one of the biggest challenges facing today's law enforcement officers. We'll examine the role law enforcement plays and how their responses have life or death consequences – impacting those who are most vulnerable and in the throes of a mental health crisis which is spiraling rapidly downward. It is important to note that the vast majority of people with mental health conditions are not violent and do not violate laws, but rather are more likely to be victims of violence themselves.● Individuals with severe mental illness generate less than 1 in 10 calls for police service and occupy at least 1 in 5 of America's prison and jail beds.● In the U.S. about 1 in 5 adults (20%) suffer from a diagnosable mental illness in any given year.● According to NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness) 43.8 million adults in the U.S. experience mental illness annually. It is imperative for you to know if your local police force has a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT).  CIT training is a specialized police curriculum that aims to reduce the risk of serious injury or death during an emergency interaction between persons with mental illness and police officers. The lack of mental health crisis services across the U.S. means that law enforcement officers serve as first responders to most crises. A CIT program is an innovative, community-based approach to improve the outcomes of these encounters. This is especially important if you, a loved one, family member, friend or colleague may suffer from depression, anxiety, PTSD, schizophrenia, or any mental health challenges or issues.  This multi-layer patient-focused collaborative approach can often be the difference between life and death for the person experiencing a mental crisis situation. In this timely and important episode, we'll unpack:● Riveting case studies of Joshua Barre, Joshua Harvey and Daniel Prude - all African-American men.  All suffering from some form of mental health issue.  All three were killed by police.● Personal insights from having observed a mentally challenged individual unattended in public.● An in-depth analysis of Crisis Intervention Team Training (CIT).● The role police play in handling mentally ill persons.● The decision-making process from a police officer's perspective regarding mentally ill persons.● Law enforcement's formal and informal “options” for handling mentally ill persons. ● The factors contributing to the problem and the implications of criminalizing mental illness. ●Finally, we focus the conversation on some policy recommendations to help improve the overall process. We'd like to thank our friends at Feedspot, as recently we were honored by being ranked #6 in their most recent poll out of the 40 Best Criminal Justice Podcasts.  Visit their blog at www.Feedspot.com or simply follow this link:  Best 40 Criminal Justice Podcasts You Follow in 2022 (feedspot.com) And for all your news and current affairs check out our friends at Newsly by visiting https://newsly.me.  Use the promo code L1GHTEMUP to launch your 10% savings. We bring the classroom to you! When Linda Villarosa was the health editor of Essence Magazine, she says she had a one-track mind. A former college athlete, Linda grew up, like many of us, thinking about health on an individual level. But after reporting on environmental justice, the AIDS crisis, and black mother and infant mortality rates, Linda has uncovered just how much culture and public health infrastructure impact life expectancy – specifically for black Americans. Her 2018 cover story on “Why America's Black Mothers and Babies Are in a Life-or-Death Crisis" was a finalist for a National Magazine Award. In today's episode, she highlights how structural racism impacts community health and talks about why she's still optimistic about combating health disparities in the country and across the globe.

Thursday Red Pill Diaries-There’s A Death Crisis On The Border But It’s A “Sacrifice Biden’s Willing To Make!” Thursday Mike Church Red Pill Diaries-There’s A Death Crisis On The Border But It’s A “Sacrifice Biden’s Willing To Make!”   BIOGRAPHY  Mike Church Biography – “Too Catholic For Satellite Radio” In May of 2015, Chris Ferrara wrote a bio pic essay on a talk-radio host who was then completely unknown to Catholic, talk-radio fans. The Mike Church Interview: A Remarkable Conversion to Tradition Changes the Face of Political Talk Radio Featured Chris wrote of me back then, words that were too kind but serve as a basis for this biography. Indeed, over the past year or so Mike Church has emerged as the only traditionally Catholic conservative in talk radio today, anywhere in the world. And I mean traditional. Not only during my appearances on the show, but now thematically, Mike has turned the longest running political talk show on Sirius Radio into an unabashed presentation of the Social Kingship of Christ, traditional Catholic moral teaching, and even the traditional Latin liturgy as the solution to what is evidently otherwise a terminal civilizational crisis. I have been invited on the show numerous times to defend all of these things explicitly, to speak of the one true Church, and even to call upon conservative Protestants to enter the Church if they are serious about saving our nation and our civilization. From there, on October 26, 2015, my 13 year run on Sirius Satellite Radio came to a close when my contract was not renewed. Chris would follow the above bio with an updated one titled, The Mike Church Show – Too Catholic For Satellite Radio. MIKE CHURCH BIOGRAPHY FACTS Born, February 2nd, New Orleans Begun talk-radio in 1992, WSLA, Slidell LA, I have been off air a total of 7 months since. Launched the Sirius Satellite Radio service as its FIRST – LIVE talk-show on 10 March, 2003. Promoted to Morning Drive on the SiriusXM Patriot Channel, May 2009, the 3rd most listened to show on the platform From July 2007 – present, founded Founding Father Films, wrote, produced, narrated and directed 9, full length audio features, two that made it to DVD! Returned to the Roman Catholic Church’s Tridentine Mass and Tradition in 2013. Consecrated to Our Lady via de Montfort’s formula in December 2014. I had been planning for SiriusXM to “whack me” since 2012 and had laid the structural groundwork for the next step in my career: launching the Veritas Radio Network and The CRUSADE Channel. On November 1st, 2015, in a video webcast for the press, I announced the VRN and that on November 15th, the Mike Church Show would be silent no more and would return to the air, this time on a platform custom built for LIVE talk radio. Smaller Government is Better! Avoid the Chastisement! It’s your hitchhiker’s guide to faux conservative news!

In honor of World Doula Week, Darcy shares her experience at the March for Moms in Washington D.C in 2018. Darcy describes her last-minute decision to hop onboard an RV dedicated to breastfeeding (pumpspotting’s Breast Express) for the all-night ride to Washington DC. She talks about the excitement and energy at the March, as well as the heaviness related to the United States’ increasing maternal mortality rate. Darcy and Taylor talk about the need to raise awareness about this major problem, institutional racism in maternity care, and the importance of prenatal and postpartum support for mothers and families. Key Takeaway: The United States is currently experiencing a crisis in maternity care. There is major change and overhaul that needs to happen within the system. While not the sole answer to this problem, doula care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum is an essential piece of the puzzle in providing expert care, attention, education and information to new mothers and families. Highlights: Darcy’s journey in the “Breast Express” to D.C What is the March for Moms about? Why are mothers dying in the United States? On Episdoe 163 of the Mama Bear Dares Podcast, Tesi and Leslie begin with a look at institutional racism in the American healthcare system. They focus on Linda Villarosa's incredible article, "Why American's Black Mothers and Babies are in a Life-or-Death Crisis,"in a segment they call "We Read It, We Loved It, Let's Discuss." The two are more than troubled by what Villarosa reports. Not only are shaken by the terrible disparity in death rates between white and black babies and women, but by the fact that this disparity has everything to do with the lived experience of being a black woman in America. Leslie and Tesi talk through this information and dig into the research because they believe the way of the Mama Bear is to learn and then lean in. This episode is about seeing—seeing the struggles of others and then processing them and fighting for change AND seeing the goodness in those around us and acknowledging that beauty. Because of that, the Mama Bears end the episode with a segment called "We See You"where they celebrate the everyday acts of love and kindness put forth by the women around them.
