Episode 3: Washington STEM Academy Literacy Night Mrs. Fabiola Nunez, Digital Learning Specialist at Washington STEM Academy and Cheri Sleighter, Principal at Washington STEM Academy, join Aimee and Kyle to share a bit more about themselves and their unique experiences within Warsaw Community Schools. Through the conversation, we will learn more about an upcoming Literacy Night at the School.On Wednesday, September 27th, Washington STEM Academy will be hosting its first literacy night from 5:30-7:30. This is a part of their literacy week which will be in conjunction with the Literati book fair and other literacy programming activities at school that week. The literacy night will offer eye screenings, free books and reading activities, crafts, and local authors will be in attendance. Pages Aplenty bookstore, the WILL Bus, Kate's Kart, the Bike Library, and other literacy services in the county will be in attendance. Teachers and staff will be setting up games, reading rooms, and other opportunities for students and parents to further engage in literacy and understand what services and other programming that is available to them in Kosciusko County. Local college students will also participate with initiatives they've created to help students gain new language skills.The first 100 students to come to literacy night will receive a free bag to carry their freebies in courtesy of Warsaw Orthodontics.

Kristina Ishmael is the Deputy Director at the US Office of Educational Technology (which we'll call the Office of Edtech, or the OET), part of the US DOE. She is an educator, learner, advocate, and agent of change. As the leader of the Office of Ed Tech, she executes the office mission of developing national edtech policy that enables everywhere, all-the-time learning and supports digital equity and opportunity.Before the OET, Kristina was the Sr. Research Fellow on New America's Teaching, Learning, & Tech team where she advised on the inclusive technology portfolio and incorporated digital equity and culturally responsive and sustaining education.Kristina was also the Digital Learning Specialist for the Nebraska Department of Education where she led professional learning and advocated for school librarians. Lynn Kleinmeyer is a Digital Learning Specialist at an education service agency in eastern Iowa called Grant Wood AEA. Her background as a literacy teacher and teacher librarian afford her a unique perspective when it comes to OER and instructional materials. She has quickly become a go-to for many educators in and out of the state of Iowa for her work on OER, copyright and Creative Commons, and a deep understanding of why school librarians are so important. Melanie Durfee, Digital Learning Specialist from the Utah Board of Education, drops by the Homeroom to discuss making group work, well - work. We talk about the misconceptions of groups, how to work through challenges, providing structure for student to student conversations about learning, and making personalized learning matter.

For episode 28, Taylor is joined by Clay Reisler, the Digital Learning Specialist at Pulaski High School, in the Polka Captial of the world, Pulaski, Wisconsin. Clay uses social media and technology to connect with the world, individualize instruction, innovate classrooms with technology and to support 70 teachers and administration to tell stories. He has created a great resource for his district and beyond with his Twitter and Instagram accounts, along with his Youtube channel, blog, iPaddiction and podcast, EdVanage.  Clay has cultivated a strong storytelling movement at Pulaski using Class Intercom and use of their Twitter hashtag, #radarstrong. He tells his students, “This isn’t our high school," meaning it’s not our adult's high school. "It's your high school and it’s yours to tell the story, so get after it!”  He also emphasizes the importance of the "4 C's": Collaboration, critical thinking,  creation, and communication.  He states,"It’s everything that drives us.
