CNN will never be the same again after former President Donald Trump appeared on the network for a Town Hall Wednesday night. The show lasted over an hour and ended with the live audience of Republicans and undeclared voters, at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, cheering for Trump. And they weren't cheering so much for CNN interviewer Kaitlin Collins. Immediately after, CNN itself was even attacked by several public figures and establishment news outlets for even giving Trump a platform. So what took place? Well, it may have made Trump look just a bit too human. And for the well-crafted and ongoing attacks to dehumanize the former president, this could be a threat to the narratives. Also, border expert and war correspondent Michael Yon joins us from El Paso, TX, to talk the end of Title 42 and what it means for the border crisis. We'll discuss this story in this episode of Crossroads. ⭕️ Stay up-to-date with Josh with the Crossroads NEWSLETTER
Chris Leazier refers to himself as a basketball nomad. He grew up glued to Indiana University games back when Bobby Knight was patrolling the sidelines and winning more championships than he threw chairs. Though a good player, Chris decided in high school that he'd have a greater impact with a whistle around his neck. One of his first stops was Thetford Academy, where he coached Basketball Strong co-host Tim DiFrancesco (TD). After spending seven years as an assistant coach at Dartmouth College, Chris was at the helm of Saint Anselm College's women's basketball for two years. Then Bakersfield Jam head coach Will Voigt came calling and Chris entered the D-League, soon reuniting with TD as well. After several other college and high school coaching jobs, Will called Chris again and they teamed up to lead the Nigerian men's national team at the Rio Olympics. Soon after, Chris was back coaching high school basketball, and also served as the head of scouting and video for University of North Carolina women's coach Courtney Banghart, who had been his fellow assistant coach at Dartmouth. In the past few years, Chris has applied all his coaching expertise at Hudl, where he currently serves as market lead for elite basketball & D1 colleges. In this episode, Chris riffs on:How he developed more compassion as a coach, while still maintaining a standard of excellenceWhy it's important to enjoy and learn from every experience What coaching and life lesson transferred from coaching in the Olympics, college, and high school basketballWhich coach was the best servant leader he has ever seenWhat makes Courtney Banghart such a successful coachKeep up with Chris on his Twitter feed.

Have you ever wondered how a college admissions counselor personally approaches each student's application? In this episode, my friend Matt Provost, an Admissions Counselor for Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, joins us to share his perspective on what he looks for when evaluating a potential student. From their admissions essay to their interactions at college fairs and on campus tours, he gives the full picture of everything that ultimately goes into the admissions decision. We are opening up a few spots for our Junior Monthly Retainer coaching on September 1st! This is our most hands-on service for high school juniors, and spots are limited, so visit http://ncewc.com/ to learn more and book a free consultation! Some key takeaways from my conversation with Matt are:College admissions counselors are looking at the whole student and all their strengths. They are ultimately wanting to answer the question “Will this student succeed and thrive at this school?” If yes, awesome! But if it's not a good fit, that's okay! There are more options out there. When it comes to your admissions essay, counselors are looking first and foremost at your writing skills. Next is how compelling and fun it is to read your essay. If you have a great story to share, it will really make your essay stand out.How much personal interest you show in a school means a lot to admissions counselors. If you connect 1:1 with a counselor at a college fair, and then make a point to say hello to them on a college visit, you start to make a strong impression of demonstrated interest in the school. The Admissions Club Podcast is your one-stop shop for all things college admissions, complete with a nostalgic 80s playlist and Gen X vibes. It's hard to believe that we've traded in scrunchies and Bruce Springsteen posters for walking our kids through the college admissions process! But, I'm here to share my 25 years of higher education experience, with 10 years of direct college admissions experience, with you and your student so you don't have to walk it alone.Connect with Elizabeth!WebsiteFacebookYouTubeLinkedIn

So often we hear advice from educators who have been in the classroom, honing their craft for years. While their experience is valuable, I thought it would be refreshing to hear from an ESL teacher who is in the beginning stages of her career. She will be graduating with a major in Spanish and a minor in ESOL education, with certification to teach ELL students in grades 9-12 in Massachusetts. Extroverted, compassionate and a keen listener, Kennedy will always try to understand and support another person, and I have seen that in action so many times! She is eager to get even more experience working with newcomers so she can better serve them and can't wait to continue her career working with English Learners and newcomers. Here is what you will hear about ESL Teaching:What teachers of English Learners teach, besides the languageWhy ESL teaching is such a rewarding careerA few things that may surprise you about teaching English Learners and new comers Advice for new ESL teachers and student teachersTips and strategies for all teachers with English Learners in their classEssential ideas for vocabulary instruction to support your ESL students and newcomersResourcesMentioned in the Episode:Follow Kennedy on InstagramFollow Kennedy on FacebookThe ESL Teaching Roadmap – membership community for middle and high school ESL/ELL teachers. New Hampshire artist, Sylvia Nicolas, joins us today to bring her perspective on what it's like to grow up into a world heavily influenced by the arts. As a fourth generation artist, she has worked all around the world with her immigrant roots in Holland, then moving to Paris, New York and of course New Hampshire. Her works which edify the campus of Saint Anselm College and Saint Anselm Abbey include mosaics, stain glass and her well-known statues of Saint Anselm, Saint Benedict and the Grotto Madonna. These familiar manifestations of her creative genius are just a portion of Sylvia's life's work. Her artistic creations are preceded by an impressive amount of research and analysis which makes her finished work an honest and visionary representation of her subjects. Her dedication to the intellectual life and the way the humanities animate her art make for a lively and engaging conversation with this artist who has been named “a living treasure” of the state of New Hampshire.

One of the leading ecclesiastical artists in the United States, Sylvia Nicolas is a member of an illustrious and prolific stained glass family. She is the fourth of five generations specializing in the liturgical arts and the daughter of Joep and Suzanne Nicolas, both famous artists who immigrated from the Netherlands to the U.S. in 1939 to escape the rising tide of Nazism. Joep Nicolas was sometimes referred to as “the Father of Modern Stained Glass.” In 1996, Sylvia Nicolas completed 13 windows for the Basilica of St. Pancratius in Tubbergen, the Netherlands, for the Four Generations Foundation, which contains windows made by her great grandfather (Frans Nicolas, 1826-1894), grandfather (Charles Nicolas, 1859-1933) , father (Joep Nicolas, 1897-1972) and cousin. Her son and fifth generation Nicolas, Diego Semprun Nicolas, created the remaining 10 windows in 2002, finalizing this unprecedented multigenerational project. As a young artist, Nicolas was interested in costume design. She attended the Lycée Francais and the Dalton School in New York, the German Institute in Rome, and the Institut des Hautes Etudes Cinematographiques and Académie de la Grande Chaumière, both in Paris. She studied with Mexican painter Rufino Tamayo and Ossip Zadkine, French-Russian artist known for his figurative-Cubist sculptures. Throughout her career, Nicolas has designed costumes and sets for ballet productions in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Paris, France, and Manchester, New Hampshire. From her studio in Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, Nicolas has created commissions for monasteries, churches, hospitals, government buildings and public spaces. A few of her most successful stained glass projects include 10 windows for the Church of the Annunciation, Washington, D.C.; two large windows for St. Mary's Chancery, Wichita, Kansas; 24 windows on the life of St. Benedict for the refectory of St. Anselm Abbey, Manchester, New Hampshire; 23 windows for Saints Philip and James Church in St. James (Long Island), New York; 47 windows for St. Dominic Chapel, Providence College, Providence, Rhode Island; and 19 windows for St. John's University, Queens, New York. In addition to her work in stained glass, Nicolas is skilled in a wide range of other media including oil, pen, conte, sculpture, mosaic and mosaic garden sculpture, concrete relief and painted tiles. Saint Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, is home to three of her bronze sculptures and a large mosaic in the sanctuary chapel. The recipient of The 2019 Lotte Jacobi Living Treasure Governor's Art Award and the 2012 Barnes Lifetime Achievement Award, Nicolas is currently the focus of a Virginia Raguin essay to be published in an upcoming book about Franz Schroeder. Raguin is also working on a video interview of Nicolas for the American Glass Guild, an organization for which Nicolas serves as Senior Advisor. In this conversation with Nicolas, the 93-year-old artist discusses recent windows created for St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Charlottesville, Virginia. She also reveals the secrets to her painting process, whether stained glass is an art or craft, and the importance of iconography and mythology in her work. No matter the medium, Nicolas expresses the humanity of her subjects. Her focus on people, mingled with talent in a variety of media, allows her to produce art both delicate and evocative. “Foremost it is people I am concerned with, in whatever context. I'm a storyteller, really.”

As the impeachment trial ends, Lilly Goren and Susan Liebell explore the future of the GOP with two media-savvy political scientists. Dr. Jonathan Bernstein is familiar to many as the Bloomberg Opinion columnist covering politics and policy -- also doing Bloomberg television and radio. He taught political science at the University of Texas at San Antonio and DePauw University and his most recent book is The Making of the Presidential Candidates (Roman & Littlefield 2020 -- Lilly interviewed him and his co-editor, Casey Dominguez, for the New Books in Political Science). Dr. Christopher Galdieri, Associate Professor at Saint Anselm College is the author of Stranger in a Strange State: The Politics of Carpetbagging from RFK to Scott Brown (SUNY Press, 2019 -- and Lilly interviewed him for New Books in Political Science) as well as Donald Trump & New Hampshire Politics (Palgrave, 2019). He often does interviews for CBC news, AP Radio, and others. In this spirited conversation, we interrogate the consequences of Trump and Trumpism for the Republican Party, the success of the Trump presidency in terms of policy and party politics, the level of dysfunctionality in the Republican Party, the tension between what is good for the party and what is good for individual office holders, and the ultimate effect on the American political system. The conversation dives into Trump's second impeachment and the role of the GOP in both the House and the Senate around this most recent impeachment and trial. Galdieri and Bernstein also discuss the presidential nominating process over the past few decades, focusing on more recent nomination cycles and how these processes, and the functioning of both the Democratic and Republican parties, shape the outcomes and the winners. Lilly J. Goren is professor of political science at Carroll University in Waukesha, WI. She is co-editor of the award winning book, Women and the White House: Gender, Popular Culture, and Presidential Politics (University Press of Kentucky, 2012), as well as co-editor of Mad Men and Politics: Nostalgia and the Remaking of Modern America (Bloomsbury Academic, 2015). Constitution Day earlier this month reminded us of the importance of the United States’ governing document. Jon Guze, John Locke Foundation director of legal studies, emphasizes constitutional provisions that protect the nation from damaging policies put forward by elected officials. Guze touts the value of these constitutional safeguards. Jesse Helms departed the American political scene long before Donald Trump started his campaign for the White House. But at least one man who worked for Helms believes the late U.S. senator would appreciate much of what Trump is trying to accomplish in the White House. Marc Thiessen followed his work for Helms by becoming President George W. Bush’s chief speechwriter. He’s now a Washington Post columnist and American Enterprise Institute fellow. Thiessen explains how his work with Helms influences his assessment of Trump. During an ongoing state budget impasse, N.C. lawmakers nonetheless moved forward with pieces of the budget dealing with hurricane and disaster relief. You’ll hear highlights from their debate. North Carolina ranks No. 18 among the states when it comes to freedom. That’s according to a report prepared for the libertarian Cato Institute. Freedom in the 50 States co-author Jason Sorens recently shared details during the annual meeting in Winston-Salem of Classical Liberals of the Carolinas. Sorens, director of the Center for Ethics in Business and Governance at Saint Anselm College, explains what N.C. policymakers have done well, along with areas that could use improvement. From the inception of the N.C. state lottery, critics have contended that state-run gambling would thrive only by relying on money from low-income customers in low-income counties. Jon Sanders, John Locke Foundation director of regulatory studies, reviews recent data that suggest critics have been correct.

Elizabeth Warren Proposes $640 Billion Student Debt Relief... COLLEGE TUITION ANALYST: Dr. Michael Busler, Ph.D., is a public policy analyst, economics expert and a professor of finance at Stockton University in New Jersey. He is a featured columnist at Newsmax, The Hill, and Townhall.com. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) proposed Monday a new $640 billion student college debt relief program that would also eliminate college tuition for all two and four-year public colleges. The 2020 Democrat presidential candidate unveiled the ambitious policy proposal as she attempts to distinguish herself from the large and progressive Democrat field. Warren released the proposal ahead of a series of youth-oriented CNN town halls Monday night with 2020 presidential candidates at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. “It’s a problem for all of us,” Warren noting, that student college debt has reached more than $1.5 trillion and affects more than 40 million Americans. “It’s reducing home ownership rates. It’s leading fewer people to start businesses. It’s forcing students to drop out of school before getting a degree.” Warren’s plan, which would cost roughly $640 billion, would eliminate up to $50,000 in student debt for each person with less than $100,000 in household income. The Massachusetts senators’ plan would also lower college debt for those making incomes between $100,000 and $250,000 but at a more gradual rate. Americans with household income over $250,000 would not receive student debt relief. Sen. Warren would then eliminate tuition and fees fro all two-year and four-year public colleges as a means to restructure the higher education system to ensure that Americans do not accumulate more college debt. She is the founder of BDS Insight and creator of Bad Ass & Bold. A Psychologist, Entrepreneur, Mom, Professor, constant striver. We highlight what it means to be visually authenticity, and the ways Millennial and Gen-Zers have been conduits for change in workplace practices, standards and policies related to women of color's beauty visibility. We discuss resilience in the context of women of color, and how weathering storms and absorbing the bumps of life foster a navigation system which can prove to be an effective workplace asset. Finally, we discuss the importance of being honest about what we're experiencing in the workplace, accessing sources of support, and ally-ship critical to navigating the turbulent political waters that can come up at the workplace. Kelley was on Radio-Telethon in 2008 and in 2009. In 2009, she sang God Bless America during the game! While playing soccer her freshman year of high school, Kelley took a ball pretty hard to the stomach. Over the next 2 months she had extreme, persistent rib pain but x-rays did not show any breaks or fractures. Kelley became pale, lost interest in doing the things she loved, and was sleeping all the time. Eventually, Kelley was diagnosed at the age of 15 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She underwent 2 years of intense chemotherapy and completed treatment in summer 2009. Kelley was so inspired by her care team at the Jimmy Fund Clinic that she decided to be a nurse. She graduated from Saint Anselm College in 2014. She is now a registered nurse at Boston Children's and takes care of pediatric cancer patients. Kellie says treating patients like herself is incredible and she could not imagine doing anything else. She was so thankful for her nurses when she was a patient because they treated her like a normal 15-year- old-girl and not a cancer patient. They brought feelings of comfort, safety and optimism – and she says to be able to give that to families and children who are fighting the same battle she did is so humbling. Kelly is a self-described huge beach bum, and enjoys being active outside.

In this election year of 2016, our country faces one of the worst political showdowns in the history of America. Each candidate seems to only be fueling a fire of rage from their opponent and doing nothing but throwing punches and accusations at each other. The media seems like it only wants to be the ringleader of this 2 person circus and only focus on what these two clowns are wanting to do to our country. Our great country seems to almost be at it's darkest hour, hope is bleak, faith in government wavers, and trust is all but gone. Empty promises fill the air leaving many of us scared to make a choice in our future and the future of our children. Within a few weeks the landscape of nation will be completely different and a new president will be crowned. Within a few months the changes will go into effect, lives to be changed forever. There may only be one hope that glimmers far off in the distance with a boot on his head... This is probably the most politically charged discussion I have ever had even though the discussion was mostly about beards. I sat down with Vermin Supreme, presidential candidate, and talked beards, beard competitions, and his ideas for utilizing beards to stop hunger in America. Vermin also flipped the interview on me and started interviewing me back for his project that he has in development, Vermin Supremes BeardWorld…more info to come soon. We tried to keep the politics to a minimum and this interview was all over the place, a definite hoot!!! We touched on a few of his campaign platforms and I tried to help him come up with a few more! Sit back and enjoy this episode, there will be MANY laughs had! a little a-boot Vermin… Vermin Supreme is a bearded , boot hat wearing presidential candidate. The self proclaimed Friendly Fascist, promises a free pony for every American, a fully funded time travel research program, zombie preparedness initiatives for a new American Republic and the Mandatory Toothbrush Act. -He has been running for the office of presidency since 1992 and ran for mayor of Baltimore in 1987 and has run for pretty much every political party that is out there -Supreme campaigned in the Washington, DC Presidential primary in 2004* -Supreme campaigned in the New Hampshire Republican primary in 2008* -December 19, 2011: He participated in the "Lesser-Known Democratic Candidates Presidential Forum", at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College and "glitterbombed" fellow candidate Randall Terry* -Campaigned as a Democrat in the 2012 U.S. presidential election* -August 25, 2012: Supreme announced his new political party, the Free Pony Party, and that he has chosen fellow fringe opponent Jimmy McMillan as his running mate. Conversely, McMillan stated he was still running for president on his own Rent Is Too Damn High platform, and that Supreme would be McMillan's running mate.* -Supreme is attempting another presidential run in 2016* *taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermin_Supreme Todays episode is presented to you with help from Pulpo Beard Oils Guaranteed the freshest feeling your beard will ever experience, Pulpo Beard Oils are some of the freshest, cleanest smelling oils out there.
