Was fordert die Bundesschülerkonferenz?
An old saying encourages believers in Jesus to be more concerned about the depth of our ministry as opposed to the breadth. Pastor Andy Searles lives his life with that in mind, and shares today on our need to be in a deep relationship with Jesus. Also, Pete Kirchhoff is with the national office of Youth For Christ, and he visits with Mike.
Table.Table.Briefings - For better informed decisions. Briefings. Frank Lavin talks with Chris Kirchhoff, defense innovation guru and the author of “Unit X” to discuss the importance of tech in U.S. national security. The adaptation of tech in the U.S. military is as urgent as it is complicated, and Chris observes that we are burdened by our success. Chris also suggests reading Walter Isaacson's biography of Elon Musk, “Elon Musk.”

Diese These wirkt zunächst pathetisch. That makes him a unique person to talk to about where this innovation is going but also about why is it often so hard for governments to keep up with pace of technology and why organisations like governments and militaries often fight against innovation rather than embracing it - or how do the United States, Europe, China or Russia compare in their ability to innovate and who's winning the new tech race of today.

In an era when America's chief rival, China, has ordered that all commercial firms within its borders make their research and technology available for military exploitation, strengthening the relationship between Washington and Silicon Valley is an urgent necessity, argue Raj Shah and Christopher Kirchhoff. They come to Commonwealth Club World Affairs to offer an inside look at an elite unit within the Pentagon—the Defense Innovation Unit, also known as Unit X—whose mission is to bring Silicon Valley's cutting-edge technology to America's military. Shah is a technology entrepreneur, venture capitalist and former director of the Defense Innovation Unit; Kirchhoff is the former director of strategic planning for the National Security Council under President Obama and is the co-creator of the Defense Innovation Unit. Until recently, the Pentagon was known for its uncomfortable relationship with Silicon Valley and for slow-moving processes that acted as a brake on innovation. Unit X was specifically designed as a bridge to Valley technologists that would accelerate bringing state of the art software and hardware to the battle space. Given authority to cut through red tape and function almost as a venture capital firm, Shah, Kirchhoff, and others in the Unit who came after were tasked particularly with meeting immediate military needs with technology from Valley startups rather than from so-called “primes”—behemoth companies like Lockheed, Raytheon, and Boeing. A vast and largely unseen transformation of how war is fought as profound as the invention of gunpowder or advent of the nuclear age is occurring. Flying cars that can land like helicopters, artificial intelligence-powered drones that can fly into buildings and map their interiors, microsatellites that can see through clouds and monitor rogue missile sites—all these and more are becoming part of America's DIU-fast-tracked arsenal. From "A Minute for Caregivers- When Every Day Feels Like Monday" An Instrument of Peace Walter Kirchhoff stepped into history on Christmas Eve in 1914 when the opera singer/German officer sang “Silent Night” in both English and German on the battlefields of World War I. On a “beautiful moonlit night, frost on the ground,” Kirchhoff's voice rose from the trenches—and touched battle-hardened soldiers from Belgium, France, Germany, and England. The moment's poignancy spurred other soldiers to sing while temporarily laying down arms. Incredulously, the battlefield became festive as soldiers tentatively walked toward one another and extended Christmas greetings. Despite Pope Benedict XV's earlier plea for a Christmas truce, the fighting continued until soldiers chose to sing rather than shoot. More than likely, Kirchhoff had no idea of the resulting impact of his voice echoing over the scarred landscape; he followed his heart and honored the moment. Sadly, the truce was temporary. Yet, history doesn't record the first soldier to resume firing; it only remembers the one who first sang of peace, reverence, and the meaning of Christmas. The teachable moment extends today. Families remain filled with conflict over caregiving challenges—many of which may erupt at Christmas gatherings. Yet the precedent stands: in the darkest of times, one voice lifted heavenward can calm a battlefield. If enough follow Kirchhoff's example, we might not only witness a truce—we may also have peace. Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. —St. Francis of Assisi Merry Christmas from Peter and Gracie Rosenberger
