After leading a health-tech company, Owen joined DonorSee to head up growth and product. Owen is passionate about designing products for the greater good. He loves witnessing every day the life-changing effect of DonorSee. He lectures part-time in technology and loves the sea. Key Takeaways:Authenticity is so much more important than technical production quality. It might seem counter-intuitive, but lower-quality videos are often able to convey authenticity in a much clearer way. An important aspect of authentic storytelling is for the content to show the whole truth of a story, especially the bad news. Statistics show that the prominent way that people consume content is through videos. It is the kind of content that most people now expect from organizations. If an organization doesn't consider making video content, they will miss out. There is a lot of power in telling authentic stories. It's especially powerful when showing the donors the good that they are doing through their partnership with the organization. People want to see the impact of their support of the organization. “We want to bring the donor to the scene that they're giving. And once you do that, and they're part of your community, and they see what you're doing, they're connected to what you're doing. They come back time and time again.” “Be real and be authentic. It makes a lot of difference.” “It's the case of not trying to do all of the slick production all the time, but it's about telling stories that are authentic.” - Owen O'Doherty Reach out to Owen O'Doherty at:Website: https://www.donorsee.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/owenodoherty/ Ask for and receive all you want need and deserve without feeling rejected, ineffective, or pushy. According to reports, an Arlington man shot several times the nonprofit founder husband of his ex-girlfriend, killing him. Police responded to a shooting call on June 24 at 2:58 a.m. and found Gret Glyer deceased in his bed at a home on the 9800 block of Bolton Village Court. Fairfax City Police announced on June 29 that 33-year-old Joshua Danehower had been arrested in connection with Glyer's death. A police statement alleges that Danehower, whom they identified as an "acquaintance of the family," entered the home and opened fire. When Glyer was killed, his wife and children were sleeping next to him. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and Arlington Police Department located Danehower at Dulles Airport on June 28. A firearm was used in the commission of a felony and he was booked into the Fairfax County Jail. Danehower attempted to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, the victim's wife, according to court documents obtained by WTOP-TV. According to reports, Glyer was shot ten times. In an interview with WTOP, Danehower reportedly said he wanted to order pizza after his bail hearing. On the bail form, the magistrate wrote, "He did not take the situation seriously at all." The next court date for Danehower is Aug. 16. Glyer founded DonorSee, a nonprofit that donates money and creates videos demonstrating the impact of the donations. In today's flagship Lions of Liberty podcast, Marc welcomes back one of his very first guests, the great Jeffrey Tucker of the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER). Marc and Jeffrey look back at some of Jeffrey's less-than-accurate predictions about the state of social media discourse and the general state of things in 2020. They discuss the completely irrational fear and response by much of the general public in relation to COVID 19, from screaming maskers to the even-more-dubious lockdown proponents. Jeffrey breaks down his research into the "lockdown industry" that stood poised and ready to strike when the opportunity came with COVID-19. Jeffrey gets fired up and predicts there's going to be "hell to pay" for the lockdowners as the public slowly comes to understand what a fraud the entire scheme was. This interview was an absolute blast to conduct and and proof that 2020 Jeffrey Tucker is the most based version yet! Be sure to hear more from Johnny Profita on the Peddling Fiction podcast! Americans Are Not Insane... Today's topics include: ...a lot of time has been spent on this show talking about the stupidity of allowing biological males - who identify as females - to compete against women in sports. Well, Rasmussen did a poll on the demographics of who agrees vs. disagrees...; next, Thomas Jipping (senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation) discusses the future of abortion. With more and more state legislators - as recently as Alabama - enacting tougher stances on the issue of having the right to life, Jipping discusses the possible overturn of Roe v Wade; and finally, Gret Glyer (founder of DonorSee) joins the show to talk about his revolutionary and innovative smartphone app. DonorSee is a fundraising platform that connects its users to on-the-ground relief teams overseas. Glyer's app lets those who donate follow aid workers to get 'real-time visual updates' of the people that their money is helping directly.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The government wastes a lot of your money on a regular basis, but here are some examples in Afghanistan that are beyond the pale. What's in the News with stories on good news for Ross Ulbricht, civilians killed by the US government, and three city governments banning employee cafeterias, banning plastic straws, and tearing down a 91-year-old woman's wheelchair ramp. Also, an Ancap Apps segment on one of the best charity apps around, DonorSee. This episode is brought to you by ZenCash, a cryptocurrency that infuses privacy, anonymity, and security done right. Also brought to you by Free Talk Live, providing you with fresh, pro-liberty content 7 days a week on more than 180 radio stations across the country. WHAT'S RUSTLING MY JIMMIES We all know that there is a ton of government waste, especially since the money is not really theirs, only our money that was stolen from us at gunpoint. Since it is not their money, they don't really care much how they use it. However, when there comes out a story about such blatant government waste as this, I would be remiss to talk about it. Apparently, "Congress has appropriated $126 billion for Afghanistan reconstruction since Fiscal Year 2002," wrote Special Inspector General John F. Sopko in testimony delivered in May to the Senate Subcommittee on Federal Spending Oversight and Emergency Management. By 2014, he added, inflation-adjusted appropriations for that purpose "had already exceeded the total of U.S. aid committed to the Marshall Plan for rebuilding much of Europe after World War II." WHAT'S IN THE NEWS In some good news, a U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland has filed a motion to dismiss pending charges against Ross Ulbricht, known as “Dread Pirate Roberts,” who is serving a life sentence following his conviction for his role in the Silk Road marketplace which facilitated the sale of illegal drugs. In government is evil news, US Airstrikes have killed 14 civilians in Northern Afghanistan. Sadly, this is a growing trend in Afghanistan due to the rise in bombings there. New data from US Air Force Central Command once again confirms a trend of escalating US airstrikes against targets inside Afghanistan. The data shows 2,911 munitions have been dropped in Afghanistan so far in 2018. And, it's not just in Afghanistan that they are killing civilians in our names. US-led coalition airstrikes targeting Islamic State militants have killed at least 73 Syrian civilians during the month of July, with most of these deaths occurring in two strikes in Deir Ezzor province, according to monitor and media organizations. In government protectionism news, in an attempt to attract employees to local restaurants and businesses, San Francisco Supervisors Ahsha Safaí and Aaron Peskin are co-sponsoring an ordinance that would ban “employee cafeterias” from new office buildings in the city. This comes as local retailers, particularly those downtown, complain of a drop in business as more companies offer their workers meals in private corporate cafeterias, Safaí said. In other California liberal insanity news, the city of Santa Barbara, California has passed an ordinance that will allow restaurant employees to be punished with up to six months of jail time or a $1,000 fine after a second offense of giving plastic straws to their customers. The bill was passed unanimously last Tuesday and covers bars, restaurants, and other food-service businesses. Establishments will still be allowed to hand out plastic stirrers, but only if customers request them. In more evil government news, Prince George's County Maryland filed a legal case against a Laurel couple in their 90s over a wheelchair ramp in their own home. To avoid legal trouble, the elderly couple's son tore down the ramp, trapping the woman in her own home. The county permitting department said the family had no permit to build a wheelchair ramp in front of their own home. ANCAP APPS I talk a lot about putting your money where your mouth is. Private charity is one way we can do that by showing that it is much more efficient and effective than government charity funded at the point of a gun. DonorSee is a new type of charity that actually allows you to watch, quickly and easily, the impact of your money on charity. When you select a charity to support on the site at DonorSee.com, you will receive text and video updates on how your money is impacting the people, all directly on the website.
When is the line crossed between altruism and vanity in regards to charity? Gret Glyer discusses whether we as a society have ruined the concept of kindness or whether we still have a shot in the grand scheme of life. Creating content is hard work... staying motivated is even harder! This week on the show, we discuss some secrets we've discovered over the years that have helped us stay motivated and on track. Kevin is out of the country this week, so Gret Glyer, founder of the company DonorSee, joins me (Josh) on the show today.
Whether you think so or not, you live in a bubble. Gret Glyer, the founder of DonorSee, didn't realize that until he got far outside his bubble. And he got so far outside it that he wanted to change other people's bubbles. Gret grew up in Fairfax, Virginia in the second-wealthiest county in the United States (just behind Teton County in Wyoming where my business partner Bill lives, according to some lists.) So when he moved to Malawi—the poorest country in the world as of 2014—his bubble popped. He went there to teach math, but ended up doing his own social-work projects more than anything. In the three years he lived there, Gret built more than 100 houses for homeless people and also crowdfunded a $100,000 girls' school designed to give the country an educational boost to exit poverty. After that experience, he decided he could help more projects like that all over the world with his own company. So he founded DonorSee, a visual platform for donations that lets people see who they're helping as well as the results of the aid quickly. You wouldn't know it now, but Gret's first attempt to raise $800 to build a house stopped short at $100 until he changed one mentality that was holding him back. He had to pop his bubble. If you want to know how to take a leap of faith like Indiana Jones, this episode is for you. If you'd like to learn what it takes to live outside your bubble, Gret's story will mean a lot to you. And if you want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of real people, click play in the player above to get started now. Eradicating malaria in an African village. How Gret compares his story to Indiana Jones. The one change that made Gret's idea work when he was hitting a wall. The “brain drain” in Malawi and how Gret's work sought to change that. American poverty vs. African wealth and vice versa. Why failures come from hubris and this one faulty way of thinking.
