My guest on this episode are NY/NJ Port Authority manager and jazz vocalist, Steve Comity; and NYC Board of Education Administrator/Educator and Jazz drummer, pianist, percussionist and singer Eric Frazier. Mr. Cromity poignantly relate his harrowing journey from the 73rd floor of the NY World Trade Center to safety after hearing the planes crash into the buildings on 9/11/2001. He did not realize the life threatening danger he was in while descending those steps. It is a truly gut wrenching, powerful experience to have in ones life. Mr Fraizer talks about his experience being a Principal in the NY Board of Education school system. He was a remarkably focused educator that made a difference with his students and staff. Both gentlemen got deeply entrenched in the New York jazz scene upon their retirement from their respective careers. It's a wonderful story about changing the downward trajectory of your life course, perseverance and setting goals, while being true to yourself. Enjoy! Some stories don't begin with purpose. They begin with loss, with questions too big for a child to carry and grief that quietly grows alongside them. When Addison Fraizer lost her mother to metastatic breast cancer at just six years old, it was not the end of her story. It was the beginning of a life shaped by love remembered, pain transformed, and courage learned over time. This is the story of a young woman learning who she is by honoring who she lost, and choosing purpose not despite her grief, but because of it.Featured in 'The Courage Edition' of AwareNow Magazine: www.awarenowmagazine.comGuest: Addi FraizerHost: Allié McGuireMusic by: Assaf AyalonProduced by: AwareNow Media

Every once in a while, you have to look back at your career and your place in the community and not only ponder where you've been but look ahead at what's coming next. That's what we did on Monday, Sept. 9 as we sat down with our newest inductees in LBF's Forty Under 40 Hall of Fame:Sandra Frazier, founder, Tandem Public RelationsJimmy Kirchdorfer, chairman and CEO, ISCO Industries Inc, and an owner of Valhalla Golf ClubWilliam Summers, chief community development officer, Republic BankThe three joined us on the most recent episode of the Access Louisville podcast, which was recorded live in front of an audience for a special event at Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana. We covered myriad topics on the show — from Louisville's hits and misses to honing in on specific moments of the three honorees careers. For an example of the latter, Kirchdorfer spoke about taking his family's business from a small irrigation company that primarily served clients in Kentucky to one that serves people around the world. He remembers walking into the company's plant and watching a system that was going to be used in Asia being built right here. "They needed our expertise, halfway across the world — calling us," Kirchdorfer said. "That kinda inspired me to think bigger."Fraizer told us about the advice she gives to young professionals looking to advance in their careers and get more involved in the community. She tells them to slow down, learn from what they're doing and don't worry about offending people. "If you do want to get engaged in things, have a strategy and processes. You've got to come to it from a thoughtful place that isn't going to immediately shut people down," she said. And Summers spoke about a few of the community's key turning points, such as the opening of the KFC Yum! Center. He was a long-time member of the Louisville Arena Authority board, a non-profit that oversees the arena's management and operation, which he called a big part of his career.Opening the arena was a key win for Louisville. But the community has had its misses too, such as not bringing an NBA franchise to the city."That would have been a game changer," he said. Summers believes there are a lot of opportunities to be had for Louisville, though. "We as a community, we have to be comfortable taking more risks," he said.Access Louisville is also available on popular podcast services, including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.Access Louisville is a weekly podcast from Louisville Business First, where we cover recent news and spotlight local business and community leaders. Monday's recording was only the second time we've recorded in front of a live audience. The last live show, which featured former Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson and Philanthropist Christina Lee Brown, can be heard here. You can check out who made this year's Forty Under 40 class here. And you can read more about the Forty Under 40 Hall of Fame (including past inductees) here.
Ian Frazier, is a writer who, for lack of a better term, does the thing. If there is a place that fascinates him he goes to that place, immerses himself in it, and writes about it. And that's exactly what he did for his new book about the Bronx called Paradise Bronx. He joins us to talk about the history of the New York borough and even tells us how he mapped out the radius in which residents can smell cookies from a local bakery. Plus, he shares what items he brings with him when he goes out to explore a city.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

In the world of finance, the behavioral aspect plays a crucial role. It's an aspect that often goes unnoticed but can significantly impact the relationship between a financial advisor and their clients. In this episode, I am joined by Brendan Frazier, a seasoned consultant to financial advisors turned financial planner, to discuss this fascinating correlation and how it affects financial planning.Brendan embarked on a journey to explore the emotional dynamics in financial planning after observing a common theme among advisors. They often felt more like therapists than financial advisors, addressing not just the monetary aspects but also the emotional dynamics of their clients' financial decisions. Inspired by this trend, Brendan started going deep into the world of behavioral finance, making him the perfect guest to discuss this topic with me.In this episode we discuss:What Brendan calls the “3 Es” question that opens clients up right awayThe delicate balance between curiosity and structure in a meetingStrategies to strengthen trust with clientsWhy understanding the emotional side of money is critically important to financial planning Brendan's strategies to incorporate behavioral finance in his interview proce—-------------------------------------LINKS FROM THIS EPISODECheck out Brendan's website Here Connect with Brendan on LinkedIn Here Episodes Mentioned: #8: Elevate Your Elevator Pitch - Here on iTunes#10: How to Create a Laser-Focused Marketing Message that Speaks Directly to Your Ideal Client Avatar- Here on iTunesBooks Mentioned: Essentialism by Greg McKeownBuilding a Second Brain by Tiago ForteConnect with Libby on LinkedIn Here! Tonight, on this intensively focused, informative, investigative journalistic edition of Light ‘Em Up we focus our spotlight on a problem that is often described as an unfortunate, intractable, unavoidable and daily reality among the members of law enforcement in the criminal justice system. We reveal the story behind the story on “Testi-lying”— when police lie.Blue Lies Matter! It's unfortunate, but law enforcement officers lie.One of the most notorious lies told by police took place just a few years ago, when the Minneapolis Police Department initially described George Floyd's death as resulting from a “medical incident during police interaction”. Police departments all over the world have engaged in and been caught in illegal lying to bolster their conviction rate.A Brooklyn, NY District Attorney has publicly named 7 blacklisted officers whom have been found to NOT be credible. Evidence suggests that police officers commit perjury or other forms of testimonial deception more often than the public and juries have realized. The term “testilying” was coined by police officers in New York City. It usually refers to perjury committed by a police officer; however, it has also been used to describe other forms of in-court deception. The lies of the police hurt people. Such lies have the potential to ruin a person's life — by putting them in prison for a long, long time or by even taking their life.Law enforcement officers are bound by an oath to protect all citizens equally. Doing so requires consistency, compassion and respect for the dignity of all people and the adherence to the principles of the U.S. Constitution. An officer dishonors the badge by using excessive force, lying under oath, falsifying their paperwork. The investigator who lies about evidence loses credibility, risks false confessions and undermines the appearance of fairness in court. Trust is essential to police-community relations and public safety. The use of deceptive tactics can only serve to undermine these relationships, bringing us to the present-day reality where cops who were once revered are now held in contempt and treated with suspicion due to the damage that they themselves have done to their reputations and the profession as a whole. The fact of the matter is that the reputation of the entire law enforcement profession is tarnished when one single solitary officer betrays their oath to protect and serve in accordance with the laws that govern our great nation, not extrajudicially. In this explosive episode we dig deep and deliver on:♦ The 4 Big Lies that police often tell. ♦ What the legal term “habeas corpus” means.♦ What is a suppression hearing and the purpose it serves in the criminal justice process. And as education is always a key component of Light ‘Em Up … ♦ We examine another Supreme Court landmark case, Frazier v Cupp 394 U.S. 731 (1969). In this case the court held that “On its own, police deception in interrogations did not automatically constitute misconduct.” This case pretty much gave law enforcement the green light to lie and use deception. The truth is certainly under attack! The truth is well worth fighting for!Truth is something to be leveraged; not concealed. We want to hear from you!
