Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: GGC expert offers recession insights and strategies Dr. Philip Vinson, economics professor at Georgia Gwinnett College, explains that recessions are triggered by unique, unpredictable factors like tariffs, political instability, or technological disruptions, rather than predictable cycles. He highlights current risks, including global instability and a potential AI bubble burst, which could lead to declining sales, layoffs, and rising unemployment. Inflation complicates Federal Reserve responses, as lowering interest rates could worsen it. Vinson advises individuals to prepare by building savings for potential unemployment and avoiding panic stock sales, suggesting downturns can offer long-term investment opportunities. STORY 2: Gwinnett prisoner convicted of selling fentanyl to fellow inmates, who overdosed on the drugs Harry Fomby, 54, was convicted of murder and drug charges for smuggling fentanyl into the Gwinnett County Correctional Complex, leading to the overdose deaths of inmates Corey Bryant, 22, and Ian Longshore, 36, in September 2021. Evidence included surveillance footage, X-ray scans, and recorded phone calls linking Fomby to the drug distribution. He received two life sentences. District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson emphasized the dangers of fentanyl and the need for prevention efforts, mourning the loss of two lives that could have been turned around. STORY 3: More than 5,000 enjoy annual Suwanee Beer Fest The 14th annual Suwanee Beer Fest brought 5,000 attendees to Town Center Park on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, featuring 400 craft beers from 107 breweries. Ranked the No. 1 beer festival by USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards, the event included live music, costume contests, and interactive activities like axe throwing and inflatable beer pong. Attendees voted for their favorite brews, with StillFire Brewing’s Black Mask Imperial Stout winning Best Beer in Georgia. The festival celebrated craft beer culture with vibrant costumes, engaging vendors, and a strong sense of community. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. The brothers, who had gunshot wounds, were initially ruled a murder-suicide by the GBI, though their family disputes this claim. Kerlin was fired following his arrest. Autopsies are complete, but the final cause of death awaits further forensic tests. The twins’ family is calling for deeper investigation, believing the deaths were not self-inflicted. STORY 5: YMCA of Metro Atlanta Opens Registration for 2025 Summer Day Camps The YMCA of Metro Atlanta has opened registration for its 2025 summer day camps, offering children ages 5-15 a chance to build confidence, develop character, and stay active. Camps, available at 18 locations, include traditional activities like games and outdoor exploration, as well as specialty options like cooking, basketball, drama, and STEAM. Programs run Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended care options. YMCA President Lauren Koontz emphasized the camps' focus on fostering friendships, curiosity, and personal growth. Families can register online or at local branches. GDP Script/ Top Stories for Mar 20th Publish Date: Mar 19th From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Wednesday, March 20th, and Happy heavenly Birthday to TV host Fred Rodgers. ***03.20.24 – BIRTHDAY – FRED RODGERS*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Curiosity Lab Criterium. Four Individuals, Including 2 Inmates, Charged with Drug Smuggling in Gwinnett County Jail Georgia Gwinnett College Student Persists in Fight Against Rare Neurological Condition Mountain View Wrestler Vy (Vee) Trinh Honored with Cliff Ramos Perseverance Award After Outstanding Senior Season Plus, my conversation with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on Celiac's disease. All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: CURIOSITY LAB BIKE RACE STORY 1: Four People Accused of Smuggling Drugs Into Gwinnett County Jail Four individuals, including two inmates of the Gwinnett County Jail, have been implicated in a scheme to smuggle drugs into the facility. The operation came to light following the discovery of methamphetamine during a standard cell inspection. The subsequent investigation by the Jail Intelligence Unit led to the uncovering of 10 small packets of methamphetamine, with a total weight of six grams, concealed within the jail. Inmates David Isaias Wilson and Salathiel McKinney are believed to have coordinated the smuggling operation from inside the jail, utilizing external contacts. Willis McFadden, a truck driver, is accused of physically transporting the drugs onto jail premises for McKinney, while Dante Thompson is alleged to have acted as an intermediary, facilitating communication between McFadden and Wilson. The four individuals now face a combined total of 11 felony charges in connection with the drug smuggling operation. STORY 2: 'I'm Not Giving Up' — Georgia Gwinnett College Student Battling Rare Neurological Disease Alejandro Hernandez, 20, diagnosed with Duchenne (Doo-shane) Muscular Dystrophy at age 6, actively confronts the challenges of this incurable disease. Alongside his family, Alejandro has participated in various initiatives to manage DMD, including joining workshops offered by Cure Duchenne. Alejandro is pursuing computer programming studies and engages in wheelchair power soccer. He advocates for a positive outlook among DMD patients, emphasizing the importance of maintaining hope. STORY 3: Mountain View wrestler Finishes Season By Winning Cliff Ramos Perseverance Award Mountain View High School senior Vy (Vee) Trinh, who has cerebral palsy, demonstrated exceptional perseverance by joining the wrestling team, challenging both medical predictions and personal limitations. Exhibiting humility and gratitude, Trinh credits his achievements to the support of his team. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back. Break 2: TOM WAGES – GCPS STORY 4: Suit alleging suppression of free speech met with skepticism at U.S. Supreme Court Protesters gathered outside the Supreme Court as it reviewed allegations of government collusion with social media firms to restrict free speech. During the proceedings, justices displayed skepticism towards the lawsuit's foundations. The Biden administration argued against any First Amendment breaches, emphasizing the absence of evidence supporting claims of unconstitutional actions. The lawsuit, brought forward by parties from Missouri and Louisiana alongside individual complainants, suggests that their online expressions were curtailed due to governmental influence. The administration posited that any content moderation was the result of social media platforms enforcing their own policies independently. The justices explored the direct impact of alleged government involvement on the plaintiffs and considered the potential implications for public safety. A decision is anticipated, with the plaintiff's expressing optimism regarding the outcome. STORY 5: Athens Bookshop Files Federal Lawsuit Against Gwinnett Sheriff Avid Bookshop, an independent bookstore located in Athens, has initiated a federal lawsuit against Gwinnett County Sheriff Keybo Taylor and Jail Commander Ben Haynes. The legal action arises from the rejection of books ordered for an inmate, which Avid attributes to a policy that only allows purchases from "authorized retailers," effectively excluding small, local bookstores. This policy, according to Avid, infringes upon inmates' First Amendment rights and amounts to government censorship. The situation unfolded after Avid Bookshop's attempts to deliver books to an inmate were denied, even though the shipments adhered to the required packaging standards. The Sheriff's Office has defended its policy by highlighting concerns over potential contraband and currently restricts book shipments to those sourced from Barnes and Noble and Amazon. Avid's legal representatives have criticized the policy as both vague and unconstitutional, arguing it unduly restricts inmates' access to a wider range of reading materials. While the Sheriff's Office maintains that the policy is a measure to ensure safety within the facility, it has chosen not to comment further due to the ongoing litigation. We'll be back in a moment. Break 3: HENRY CO SHERIFFS STORY 6: LEAH MCGRATH And now here is my conversation with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on celiacs disease. ***LEAH MCGRATH INERVIEW*** We'll have final thoughts after this. We dive into the life of Mr. (Fred) Rodgers, what he meant to us, and how he was portrayed as a supporting character by Tom Hanks in the 2019 film "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood." Enjoy!
“¡La lucha es real!” era su manera de reconocer con ironía las dificultades de la vida, y, con una sonrisa, invitarlos a otros a unirse a su experiencia. Ubicando la risa en medio del sufrimiento, ella encontró una manera de hacer menos agobiantes circunstancias que eran super agobiantes. Como solía decir Fred Rodgers, “Toda experiencia humana es mencionable, y todo que es mencionable puede ser más manejable.” “The struggle is real” was her way to wryly recognize life’s hardships, and, with a smile, to invite others to join her in the experience.Locating laughter smack dab in the middle of suffering, she found a way to make incredibly overwhelming circumstances a little less overwhelming. As Fred Rogers liked to say, “Anything that's human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable.” Sermon by the Rev. I have a secret checklist of things that I would love to accomplish with my career. Some of these are vanity things, some are financial, some are artistic, and some are on the checklist just because why wouldn't I want to play guitar and lead a sing-a-long with Michelle Obama? Tim Kubart, by most measures, has completed his checklist and just... keeps... going! But what I wanted to find out from Tim was how it feels to be him. We talk about 10,000 hours, building a circle of support, new projects, and mostly what it is like to be Tim Kubart, someone who I can now say, (from personal experience) has a bit of that same grit and pixie dust that I noticed when I met Fred Rodgers.

We sat down with Tadd Barton, the most friendly man since humanity gave us Fred Rodgers. He talks about how he went from a meat eater to lover of all things plant as well as let us in on some secrets on how to enjoy literally everything.
"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" portrays Tom Hanks as Mister Rodgers depicting a true, real-life relationship between Fred Rodgers and journalist Tom Junod. When a magazine writer's assignment is to profile Fred Rodgers, played by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, kindness trumps his skepticism when he learns about empathy and decency from America's beloved neighbor.
Time to do some housekeeping! I guess what that means is to reflect on the Why Come Japan show over the past year of 2019. I talk about making money online, what happened to my other podcasts I was trying upload for the entirety of this past year, Fred Rodgers, finding the joy in creating content again, the best-received episodes this year, and much more. My guest today is Spencer Lott. Spencer is a maker, artist, puppeteer and writer. In addition to all of his creative gifts, Spencer is a thought machine, in fact, one of Spencer’s thoughts planted the seed that inspired me to create this podcast. Spencer grew up in Kansas, and as a kindergartner, impressively wrote “I want to be the next Jim Henson.” He truly appreciates how supportive his parents were in helping him fill his artistic toolbox. By age 16, Spencer started his own puppet company. He learned how to sew, paint and sculpt. From his intensive high level training at the Eugene O’Neil National Puppetry Conference (which he attended 8 times!), his theater degree at the University of Kansas, to his years in NYC, Spencer now is a busy free-lancer, working for Sesame Street, Trusty Sidekick Theater Company as well as designing puppets for theater companies, advertising agencies and production companies. Spencer’s enthusiasm, curiosity and reverence for wonder, clearly generates his flow of new ideas. After a successful period performing in major musicals around the country for a number of years, Andy Dexterity decided it was time to press pause for a bit and re-evaluate what he had to offer creatively - what more was there that he could contribute as a story-teller?The next theatrical phase of his career was to see him fuse his skills in dance, physical theatre, education and sign language into an engaging invention, allowing him to communicate with an audience in a uniquely visceral way.A celebration of this performance style lead him to a series of fabulously engaging video clips on youtube. These brilliant broadcasts on social media lead to choreographic engagements that incorporated Auslan - the physical language of communication.Andy was soon serving a term as the 'Mayor of Wiggletown' - the home of the highly successful children’s entertainers - 'The Wiggles'. And whilst exploring and developing his unique brand, he was invited to be a presenter of a highly regarded TED Talk in front of a world-wide audience, leading them in a performance of 'Bohemian Rhapsody'.A new chapter is about to emerge with a move to the States where he hopes to follow a path similar to his heroes; Fred Rodgers, Walt Disney and Jim Henson. Anything is possible! So how exactly did all of these opportunities come about? What is the story that has contributed to Andy Dexterity? One can’t help but be enthused by Andy’s contagious positive energy. We poured the champagne to toast his new adventure and recorded this thoroughly engaging conversation.
