With decades of experience in conflict resolution across Europe, Dr. Fellegi shares insights on the importance of acknowledging multiple narratives in a conflict and the critical role of compassion in bridging divides. PSST! Get your free Noble Energy Wellness Map (Four Worlds HD chart) here https://www.nobleenergymaps.com/get-your-energy-map/ Today, we're talking to the incredible Dr. Eleanor-Haspel Portner, the founder of the Four Worlds System, creator of Noble Energy Wellness Maps, and the author of (among MANY books) “Beyond Human Design: Turbocharge Your Practice With Integrated Channels In All Four Worlds.” Dr. Eleanor Haspel-Portner passionately synthesizes areas of esoteric wisdom and scientific discovery. Her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago gives her a unique integrative background and perspective in helping her clients manifest their dream lives. She also personally knew, learned from, and worked with Ra Uru Hu – who she helped create the Dream Rave and verify Human Design scientifically in the 1990s. During her research, she found which parts held up (and which didn't), and more importantly, she realized that the system seemed to be incomplete. As a result, she created the Four Worlds system to help create a fully integrated chart and help people live at their highest potential with their designs. Dr. Eleanor is, IMHO, an integral part of the story of Human Design. She's also someone I respect a lot – so I'm stoked to share her with you today! Her Ph.D research is fascinating. It's focused on the intersections of media, culture and race, particularly within popular music and digital media. Dr. Pope also earned a Master's in Communication Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University and completed a Joint Honours Bachelor's Degree in Rhetoric and Professional Writing and Fine Arts with a Digital Media Specialization from the University of Waterloo. She is dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in Canada and fostering diversity, which as mentioned, is beautifully exemplified in her TEDx Talk. She has delivered impactful lectures at prestigious universities, such as the University of Southern California, and more. She has also spoken at conferences and served as a guest panelist all across Canada. Her insights have been featured in notable media outlets including CTV, CBC, iHeart Radio, Global Television, NBC and others. When not immersed in her professional pursuits, Dr. Pope enjoys weightlifting and experimenting with oil, acrylic and mixed-media painting. Also on the program, we have Juno Award-winning R&B, Soul, and Pop singer Sean Jones. As he puts it, “It's been a long time…but it always feels good to come home.” Sean Jones is referring to the kind of '90s inspired R&B music he made with the highly successful boy band, "In Essence." The group rose to fame in the early 90's with the hits, "Friend Of Mine," "IE IE" and "You Will Never Find" and received worldwide recognition for their ability to combine Rap, Pop, and R&B with exciting performances. In 2004, "In Essence" won a Juno Award for their debut album before breaking up in 2006. Post break up, Jones took an interest in songwriting and producing. Over the next ten years, he put together a catalogue of songs that stretched in genre from soft rock to Motown Revival. It was his take on soulful classics however, that would eventually land him a unique and incredible opportunity to showcase his skills. In 2015, Sean became the first artist to secure a solo summer residency at the historic Casa Loma in downtown Toronto. The Monday night revue titled “Soul In The City” gave Jones and his nine-piece band, "The Righteous Echo," the chance to showcase his original songs, as well as their take on popular old school hits. The show was also a wonderful opportunity to give emerging artists a stage to share their talents. “Soul In The City,” through Jones' hard work and tenacity, grew to 1000+ people every Monday night. The overwhelming success he had with that residency led to WestJet, Canada's second-largest airline, handpicking Sean to create a musical experience for the passengers aboard their flights. For the project titled, “The WestJet Boarding Sessions,” Jones recorded new versions of classic Canadian hits, such as “These Eyes” by The Guess Who, “The Weight” by The Band, and “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan and flew across Canada to interview some of these cherished musical icons. His latest album, has a familiar sound that many have not heard from him in almost 15 years. Jones' most recent album, “Weekend Lover” features a set of songs that are reminiscent of 90's R&B, something Jones is very familiar with. Says Jones: “Growing up, my parents played all the classics, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, The Supremes…the list goes on and on. I loved all of it then and to this day. However, the music of the late '80s and '90s is what sparked my interest in performing. There was something about the musical energy of that time. The R&B/Pop son ...

In this episode, Ingrid Faro and I try to demystify evil. Ingrid shares her harrowing story of abuse from her first husband, how the church wasn't helpful in the midst of it, how her second husband died, how she lost everything and was even homeless for awhile. As evil invaded her life, so much so that she didn't want to go on living, she went on a journey to discover the goodness of God? Is He good? Is He just? Why is evil happening all over the world? This journey led her to Scripture – to Genesis and the fall and then the whole story of God. We talk about human causes of evil, nature run amok, evil in the unseen realm, hopelessness and despair and we find hope. Hope that there is a good God and that we can align ourselves back to the goodness of God. We find that forgiveness sets us free, so we can live a life of joy and freedom. So join us as we demystify evil and find hope in the goodness of God. Ingrid Faro, Ph.D., M.Div. is Coordinator of the MA in Old Testament program at Northern Seminary in the Chicago area. Her Ph.D. is in Theological Studies, with concentration in Old Testament and Semitic Language. Linda Arrigo has been in Taiwan for many years, working as a human rights activist, as an important member of the early team of fighters who risked life and limb for a democratic Taiwan, and more recently, worked with the Taiwan Green Party on environmental issues such as stopping NPP4. She's also taught in local universities as a professor. Her Ph.D. thesis (1996) was on land ownership inequality in pre-1949 China, a topic she started working on in 1975 during early graduate study -- but had to return to because her questionnaires on girl factory workers in Taiwan (field research 1975, 1977-79) were confiscated during a police raid on her home following the Kaohsiung Incident. She was married to the late Shih Ming-teh from 1978 to 1995. And while, like many, she has a great amount of respect for the former political prisoner-turned statesman, Linda notes that history will unfortunately remember the errors he made in his latter decades that sullied his once-glowing reputation. formosafiles.com has links, pics, and more.

Welcome to Valuable Conversations with the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose. On this episode, MPA alumni Justin Beirold sits down with Ph.D. candidate Nai Kalema. If you have been following this podcast, you heard Nai as co-host on several episodes, including our conversations with George the Poet, George Aye, and Damon Silvers. But today is all about Nai. Nai is a brilliant scholar and practitioner, who has been working for years on topics including global development, innovation, and strategic design. Her Ph.D. thesis is about digital transformation and determinants of health and their relationship with Digital Identity systems in Kenya and Uganda. The recording of this episode was unusual. Typically we book a guest, record the episode, and then I lightly edit it before release. But with Nai it went a little differently. I first interviewed her when we just started working together on the podcast, in November 2021. In that conversation, we talked about her life - growing up in Minnesota, attending George Washington University, and watching the Black Lives Matter movement emerged in her home state after the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. We discussed her work at MIT and Harvard on global development and innovation policy, and how she got interested in design. And she told me why she chose to attend IIPP for her Ph.D. research. We also talked about her research. But this is where we changed things up. By the time I was ready to release the episode, quite a lot of time had passed. And most importantly, Nai has made enormous progress in her research - including narrowing down her topic to health and digital ID systems in Kenya and Uganda. So what you are about to hear is two interviews: one on her life journey and background, and a second one, recorded nearly a year later in October 2022, where we dig in deep on the research: Digital ID, the fact that both Biometrics and Eugenics were both invented at UCL by the same person - Sir Francis Galton - and some of the bigger picture concepts like data colonialism. Because this episode is long, I've included time stamps if you want to skip around. Nai is so awesome that I have tried to work with her as much as possible. It is worth noting that along with George the Poet, Nai is the first black PhD student at IIPP. And as we discuss in the conversation, I think she is the perfect person to assume that mantle. I've learned so much from her, and I'm so grateful for her hard work and time. I hope you enjoy my conversations with Nai Kalema. *****-3 min: Nai's life journey, education, working in development and innovation -34 min: why Nai chose IIPP for her Ph.D. research -48 min: Design Justice -55 min: Nai's Ph.D. research on digital ID and health in Kenya and Uganda.***** -Recorded in two conversations: November 2021 and October 2022 -Learn more about Nai: - Nai Kalema https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/public-purpose/nai-lee-kalema - Follow Nai on Twitterr: @NaiKalema -Learn about our host: - Justin Beirold https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/public-purpose/justin-beirold - Justin's Twitter: @VibeEconomy -Follow IIPP on Twitter: @IIPP_UCL https://www.ucl.ac.uk/bartlett/public-purpose/ -Production and music by Justin Beirold

She will distinguish Domestic Violence and Domestic Silence (neglect/emotional disconnection) and talk about the negative effects on either for children or adults. While today does not talk about NT or ND, this sets the stage for other podcasts on the topic of trauma and safety.About Dr. Johanna Lynch:Dr. Johanna Lynch is a GP psychotherapist and senior lecturer with The University of Queensland's General Practice Clinical Unit. She has spent the last 15 years of her 25-year career as a GP caring for adults who are survivors of childhood trauma and neglect. This practical clinical work of being with those in our community who are often marginalized, misunderstood, and categorized with multiple mental health diagnoses has led her to search for approaches to the whole person that is applicable across disciplines. She has pioneered approaches that actively work against the fragmentation caused by trauma. She is a clinical advisor to a domestic and family violence program with Brisbane South PHN and to Blue Knot Foundation and is president of the Australian Society for Psychological Medicine, which educates, supports, and champions GPs and allied health providers who offer complex whole-person care. Her Ph.D., entitled Sense of Safety: a whole person approach to distress in primary care, sought to integrate trauma-informed care into primary care approaches to the whole person. Her clinical and academic work champions the sophisticated craft of generalism – integrating social science and biomedicine. Her work has received international acclaim from primary care researchers as a paradigm change in approaches to people in distress. It integrates lived experience and Indigenous wisdom with transdisciplinary scientific insights from trauma, attachment, social determinants of health, neurobiology, psychophysiology, and psychoneuroimmunology. This work has been published in a peer-reviewed academic book: A Whole Person Approach to Wellbeing: Building Sense of Safety (2021).Links:https://www.senseofsafety.com/https://www.drjohannalynch.com/Disclaimer:When we have guests on the ASR podcast, they are recognized for their expertise on autism as an advocate, self-advocate, clinicians, parents, or other professionals in the field. The ALL ME® Podcast How to Stop Losing Muscle While Aging? - Sara Oikawa, PhD Sarcopenia is the loss of muscle tissue as a natural part of the aging process. Did you know that after age 50, muscle mass decreases at an annual rate of 1-2% and muscle strength declines by 1.5% between ages 50-60? It is estimated that 5-13% of people 60-70 years of age are affected by sarcopenia with those numbers increasing to up to 50% for those aged 80. But, is there a way that we can slow this process down or even prevent from happening? In this podcast, we speak with Dr. Sara Oikawa, from the Gatorade Institute of Sports Science about strategies to minimize muscle loss as we age. We'll discuss the impact of exercise and exercise type, dietary factors and the importance of protein, are there any dietary supplements that could play a role. About Sara Sara is an Associate Principal Scientist at the GSSI satellite lab at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Sara earned her Honours Bachelor of Science Kinesiology, Masters of Science in Kinesiology, and her Ph.D. in Kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Sara's Masters focused on resistance training-load mediated muscle hypertrophy in trained young adults. Her Ph.D. work focused on dietary protein quality and alterations in protein metabolism, specifically muscle protein synthesis, in both inactivity and resistance training models. In her spare time, Sara enjoys travelling, hiking, cooking, and watching Toronto based sports teams. There is something beautiful about intelligence; it reveals how much we can become when we put ourselves to the task of searching and asking the right question.I am always fascinated by knowledge because our becoming, being, and living all rise and fall on the back of what we know. All of these begin with our intellect, the sum of our cognitive facilities, and the capacity for reasoning. This is where light comes to our mind, we develop, and our external world becomes a recipient of our realities. On this episode of the Word Café Podcast, I am honored to have someone who has embraced her intelligence as a gift and built a future. Her name is Dr Nwamaka AkpodieteDr. Nwamaka Akpodiete is a post-doctoral research associate in vector biology with Target malaria, based at Keele University, United Kingdom. She conducts molecular ecological studies to understand the population dynamics and ecology of the African malaria mosquito Anopheles gambiae. Additionally, she provides support and training in molecular ecology, ecological statistics, and scientific writing at African partner institutions. Nwamaka has a 12-year of work experience in Higher Education involving teaching, mentoring, laboratory and field research, project supervision, and related administrative roles. Nwamaka has a broad-based undergraduate and postgraduate education and research training in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology techniques, next-generation sequencing, entomology, zoology, and environmental sciences. Her BSc (Animal and Environmental Biology) research project was on the ecological dynamics of soil microarthropods about hydrocarbon pollution. She identified some bioindicators of soil pollution and microarthropod species indicative of soil recovery. This interest in environmental health led to an MSc in Environmental Quality Management. Nwamaka's MSc project was on the dipteran larvae in polluted water bodies in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The project linked disease vectors such as Anopheles gambiae s.l. and Culex quinquefasciatus to indiscriminate waste disposal in Port Harcourt City, Nigeria. She also holds an MSc in Entomology and Pest Management from the University of Port Harcourt. Her research interest in public and environmental health culminated in a Ph.D. in Entomology at Keele University, United Kingdom. Her Ph.D. research was focused on the evolutionary larval divergence in Anopheles gambiae s.l. About rice field domestication in Africa and improvement of An. gambiae s.l. Mass-rearing protocols for release. She also evaluated the use of zeolite in mosquito rearing and the characterization of microbial communities in the insectary via 16S rRNA gene sequencing. The study revealed ecological consequences of environmental manipulation, which has resulted in the speciation event in the malaria vector An. coluzzii, resulting in the year-round transmission of malaria and increased urban malaria. The findings from her Ph.D. research are relevant for malaria vector control, irrigated agricultural and urbanization policy reevaluation, and improvement of sterile insect techniques and gene drive protocols. Nwamaka is actively involved in malaria campaigns@Zeromalaria to eradicate malaria in Africa.Support the show

The detection of gravitational waves from inspiraling black holes by the LIGO and Virgo collaborations was rightly celebrated as a landmark achievement in physics and astronomy. But ultra-precise ground-based observatories aren't the only way to detect gravitational waves; we can also search for their imprints on the timing of signals from pulsars scattered throughout our galaxy. Chiara Mingarelli is a member of the North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) collaboration, which uses pulsar timing to study the universe using gravitational waves.Support Mindscape on Patreon.Chiara Mingarelli received her Ph.D. in physics from the University of Birmingham. Randomness and probability are central to modern physics. In statistical mechanics this is because we don't know everything about the distribution of atoms and molecules in a fluid, so we consider a probability distribution over what they might be; in quantum mechanics it's because the theory only lets us predict measurement outcomes probabilistically. Physicist Nicole Yunger Halpern explains how we've been lagging behind at bringing these two theories together, and how recent progress is changing the landscape of how we think about the microworld.Support Mindscape on Patreon.Nicole Yunger Halpern received her Ph.D. in physics from Caltech. Barbara Chamberlin directs research and development at the Learning Games Lab at New Mexico State University. She first started developing educational games in the early 90s and sought her doctorate to help guide ways research could inform the design of educational games. Her department creates research-based educational media such as games, apps, animations, videos, interactive programs and virtual reality experiences, for a wide range of audiences and content. Her Ph.D. is from the University of Virginia in educational technology. Their shop is weird for a university: the primary goal is to develop educational media based on research. They function more as a non-profit educational design studio than a university department. As a result, they have a pretty big variety in what they create (innovativemedia.nmsu.edu and check the links on the side for sample products). Their most popular games are the Math Snacks suite of games; but we have some on financial literacy, science and health, etc.
Even if you brush, floss, and get regular dental check-ups, if you're like many athletes—especially those in the menopause transition—you may still struggle with tooth decay and oral health woes. That's because both athletics and hormone decline can lead to conditions that set the stage for dental disease and mouth discomfort, both of which can put a damper on your performance (and your pocketbook). This week, we help save your smile with dental health expert and avid triathlete Dr. Julie Gallagher. Julie Gallagher, Ph.D., is an honorary research fellow at University College London, based at the Eastman Dental Institute Centre for Oral Health and Performance. Julie worked in clinical dental practice for more than 30 years before pursuing her interest in epidemiology and sport and embarking on a Ph.D. in 2014. Her Ph.D. project investigated oral health and its impact on performance of elite athletes. She was awarded her PhD in March 2020. She is looking forward to participating at Ironman Italy in September 2022 following its postponement from 2020.
