With the Spurs tendering Wieskamp a qualifying offer when free agency began, the signs were there that they intended to keep him as part of their roster since he was just entering the second season of his NBA career. Three Players on Exhibit 10 Deals Alize Johnson and Tommy Kuhse signed exhibit-10 deals recently, and a player on the roster will have to be waived in order for the team to sign Jalen Adaway to an exhibit 10 contract. With the Spurs' roster now capped with 20 players, in order to sign another player going forward, the Spurs will have to waive a player first. Though it's not an urgent move, the Spurs will also need to decide which player will be waived before the start of the regular season in late October. In a segment on the episode, this topic is discussed. Manu Ginobili's Hall of Fame Ceremony This Weekend This Saturday, September 10, Manu Ginobili will enter the Hall of Fame. In Spurscast episode 630, Spurscast host Paul Garcia and Project Spurs writer Josh Paredes discuss the latest San Antonio Spurs topics:  Manu Ginobili joining the team in a Special Advisor role Upcoming training camp questions The latest update on Ben Simmons refusing to attend training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers Manu Ginobili joins the team in a Special Advisor role Friday the San Antonio Spurs announced multiple staff additions and promotions, and in the announcement, the team said Manu Ginobili would be joining the club as a Special Advisor to Basketball Operations. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Ginobili will work in a player-centric role to focus on and off the court in helping the young players develop. Wojnarowski also reported Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich, Spurs Sports & Entertainment CEO R.C. Buford, and General Manager Brian Wright have been trying to get Ginobili to rejoin the franchise is some sort of role since his retirement a few years ago. In the episode, Josh and I discuss what benefits we think Ginobili can help the young players with on and off the court. Training Camp Questions Training camp for the 2021-2022 season will officially kick off Tuesday. The Spurs so far are heading into training camp with 18 players on the roster, though they can still add up to two more players for training camp and the preseason. With 17 players on guaranteed contracts, San Antonio will have to either waive or trade two players by October 18, when the NBA requires teams to have just 15 players on guaranteed contracts. Some questions Josh and I discuss in the episode are: Who starts at the power forward position? Who will be the backup point guard? Will Luka Samanic get a rotation role this season? Who will be the backup center between Drew Eubanks and Jock Landale? Which two players will be waived or traded by October 18? Ben Simmons to sit out training camp This past week Wojnarowski reported Ben Simmons won't be showing up to training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers and he's refusing to play future games with the team. The Celtics went into tonights game on a four-game win streak, but were unable to extend it. Kyrie Irving led the way for Boston for the entirety of this game with 36 points, but it wasn't enough to beat the Spurs.Two huge Manu Ginobili three pointers at the end of the second and fourth quarters were the difference in this one.  

The San Antonio Spurs starting unit combined for just 53 of the team's 109 points, but it was enough to get past the Boston Celtics on Black Friday, beating the Celtics by a score of 109-103 at the TD Garden. The Celtics smaller size as a team proved to be a crucial element to the game, as San Antonio outrebounded Boston 45-36, including 13 offensive rebounds, one of which came at the end of the game to seal the Spurs victory. With the Celtics down four points with 40 seconds remaining, the team was able to force a contested three-pointer from Manu Ginobili. Ginobili was able to draw iron, and with LaMarcus Aldridge on the weak side, he was able to body up with the much smaller Avery Bradley and grab the game-sealing rebound, the fifth offensive rebound for San Antonio in the fourth quarter.
