In this episode we adjust our focus from NDEs to SDEs... near death experiences to shared death experiences. Gretchen Jones works as a death doula and has had many amazing shared death experiences that include seeing a dying person's spirit leave their body and other spirits coming to welcome them. We can learn a lot about near death experiences and the death process from Gretchen's experiences. In fact, it helps to discuss and 'normalize' these conversations. In this episode we discuss many questions, such as: Can we have a shared death experience when the one transitioning is hundreds or thousands of miles away? Can we learn how to have these special experiences? Why can some people see the spirits in a room, and others not? How long can people be in the spiritual realm before their physical body dies? And many others. You won't want to miss any of these beautiful stories! One of the top reasons I believe in the afterlife is the hundreds of stories I've heard about death bed visions - nobody dies alone, and we are greeted by our loved ones to take us across the veil often telling us we are going on a trip. Helen Gretchen Jones has been by the bedside of so many people as they pass as a Death Doula, and consistently shares in their death experience - seeing and hearing the sights, sounds and loved ones as they pass. She attributes this to a lifetime belief in spiritual things, plus studying theology, Reiki, meditation, psychic and mediumship work. To me, it sounds like she found a way to get more in the present moment than most of us have ever gotten too. I met her years ago and always told her to write a book! She finally did and I wanted to hear about it. Her book is titled, “Healing Whispers from Spirit Guides - Bridging the Gap Between Life and the Afterlife with a Death Doula's Wisdom” (see on Amazon if you are interested at https://amzn.to/3XApiHF ) Her website is https://www.helengretchenjones.com/ - We talk about an organization No One Dies Alone https://nosdaf.com/ A very interesting conversation!! His dad worked at Miller when Mike was young, and therefore, told him to not do beer, and to go to college instead.Mike listened but still got into home brewing in college and then graduated from that into home brewing out of his basement, ultimately making the jump to his own brewery, Mikerphone.Music and Beer And if brewing had a hold on him, music did even more. Combining his two passions together, music and beer, Mikerphone Brewing just outside of Chicago became real. But not by any traditional means. Well, sorta. He did start home brewing out of his basement. But on the other hand, he also won highly acclaimed awards for his beer before he even had a location. He did finally have a brewing business, but no home for said brewery. This is Mike's story of how he and his wife, Lisa, brought two passions together to create one. And when your partner in life and business is a pilot, and your brewing style is to create small batch brews, again there's nothing left to do, but call said brewery, Pilot Brewing Company.Welcome to the first episode in our series of podcasts where we have partnered up with Malteurop Malting Company (MMC) to highlight some phenemonal craft breweries for American Craft Beer Week, May 16-22.Meet Rachael Hudson, the Pilot Behind the BreweryStarting in the service industry at 19 in a restaurant that served a lot of beers, Rachael quickly learned that she wanted to know more about craft beer and set her professional career in motion doing exactly that. Not only is this her story about rising up through the ranks, eventually opening up her own brewery in North Carolina, but this is also a story about education, community, and innovative practice in a world that needs all of the above.Join us as we chat about the story behind the name, the Cicerone Certification Program (Racheal is an Advanced Cicerone), Pilot's small batch system (Can you guess the name of it?), her love for community brewing, Pilot's Charity of the Month program, malts and ingredients, and much more. Pilot Brewing Company is truly a neighborhood brewery - the kind where everybody knows your name.Oh, and she has a podcast where she and her friend, Jen, "separate their listeners through this crazy world of beer knowledge to help them figure it out." The name? False Bottomed Girls. Do you get the pun? She's got great stories to tell behind the beer, but wait until you hear her response when asked about being a woman in the brewing industry. (I knew it was going to be snarky, and that's why I asked the question.) She is, after all, the pilot of the brewery, and a badass woman!Connect with Pilot Brewing CompanyPilot Brewing Company1331 Central Ave. #104Charlotte, NC 28205Pilot Brewing CompanyFacebookInstagramTwitterFalse Bottomed Girls PodcastMalteurop Celebrates Craft Breweries During American Craft Beer WeekThe annual nationwide event of American Craft Beer Week, May 16-22, 2022, celebrates small and independent craft breweries throughout the U.S. Malteurop (MMC) has joined forces with us at Living a Stout Life to highlight just a few of these remarkable breweries through their stories behind the beer. Old Dominick Distillery dates back to the late 1800s and was founded by Domenico Canale, an Italian immigrant. Having family in Memphis, with origins in the fruit business, Canale headed to Tennessee to join the business. Realizing he'd rather make whiskey instead of selling fruit, Old Dominick, the whiskey, was born. Three days before Prohibition, Canale passed away, and whiskey production and sales ceased.Today, Canale's dream has been revived, and we were fortunate to be able to chat with Alex Castle, Master Distiller at the now very much alive and vibrant Old Dominick Distillery. Her story takes into account the rich history of the Canale family while crafting a future in distilling that will continue traditions while still pushing the boundaries.Meet Alex Castle, Master Distiller at Old Dominick DistilleryAlex Castle became the Master Distiller and an integral part of the Canale venture in 2015 when the design process for Old Dominick Distillery began to take shape. Production started in 2016, and the doors finally opened in 2017, giving downtown Memphis its first distillery to make whiskey since before Prohibition.Spending most of her childhood wanting to be a marine biologist, Alex wasn't sure what to do when in high school she found out that she had no interest in biology. She fondly looks back at that defining moment in her life, realizing at the age of 14 she may have already had her mid-life crisis.Instead, she fell in love with physics, chemistry, and calculus, resulting in her attending the University of Kentucky to study chemical engineering. And thankfully, for spirit lovers everywhere, following advice from her mom, she became a master distiller.Bourbon is no longer just your Grandpa's drink. As a distiller for Old Dominick, not only is Alex crafting age-old, traditional spirits, she's innovating within those traditions. Ages are shifting within the bourbon movement, and we are seeing an increased diversity in consumer palates. Alex is an expert at crafting the spirits we desire when we gather around a table with friends, and that is her main passion for distilling, creating connections and building community.Chatting with Alex was like sitting back with an old friend around a cozy fireplace sipping on excellent bourbon. It was easy, fun, and enlightening. Since her goal is to bring people together over a good drink, I would say she has achieved that goal, both in the distillery and far beyond the walls that started it all. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed talking with her. Cheers to Alex and her entire team at Old Dominick Distillery. For the full show notes and more stories, click here.Connect with Old Dominick DistilleryOld Dominick Distillery305 S. The name comes from the local Bridger Mountain Range which sits just a few miles north of Bozeman. The community comes from the people that work and live here. The beer comes from Daniel Pollard and his team at Bridger Brewing. The first employee at Bridger Brewing, Daniel is more than that and more than a brewer. He builds bridges with the beer he brews. Bridges to the community both within Bridger Brewing and Bozeman, Montana. With a passion for supporting local organizations and collaborating with other brewers, Daniel works hard at bringing people together over a beer. Daniel is also highly passionate about diversity in the craft beer industry. And not just the work industry but the customer base, as well. He wants to encourage people who weren't traditionally involved in craft brewing to come in, bringing new perspectives, backgrounds, life stories, and skills. So, yes, we talk beer, but we also talk community, diversity, music, and all the things that inspire us to wake up in the morning, grateful for the day ahead. And speaking of beer, you've got to hear what he loves to drink. Sometimes, it's not always about the craft beer, but more about the beer that's crushable. The beer that is a part of every adventure story. We've always said it's about the story more than the beer, and Daniel tells the stories well. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Malteurop Celebrates Craft Breweries During American Craft Beer Week -------------------------------------------------------------------- American Craft Beer Week takes place May 10–16, 2021. Any craft brewery that has biking as a theme is a craft brewery for us. And Crank Arm Brewing definitely has a thing and a theme for biking. So, let's crank it up this week for some beer and bike love while we chat all about life's trials, tribulations, and rewards! With a mutual love of bikes and beer came a passion project that fit Adam Eckhardt to a tee, Crank Arm Brewing. We were thrilled to be able to talk bikes and beer with Adam, one of the four masterminds behind Crank Arm Brewing in Raleigh, North Carolina. While his story may be similar to some - person loses job, person ponders purpose of life, person loves to brew beer, person opens brewery - his style and passion remain unique to him. When it became apparent that he was going to open a brewery, it was a no-brainer that bikes would be also be involved. Join us this week for some beer love, some bike love, and just all around love for passions that make the world go 'round. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Malteurop Celebrates Craft Breweries During American Craft Beer Week -------------------------------------------------------------------- American Craft Beer Week takes place May 10–16, 2021. We continue our Malteurop podcast series celebrating breweries for American Craft Beer Week. This week, the series takes us to Colorado where we met with Kyle Carbaugh, CEO and Founder of Wiley Roots Brewing Company. Finding a hobby at the encouragement of his wife led to his career as a brewer. Looking to make beer fun again, Kyle and his team at Wiley Roots create beers that are unique and meaningful, all rooted in Greeley, Colorado. Nicknamed Wiley by his aunt when he was a precocious, hot-tempered kid, the name stuck. Years later, transitioning from an accounting career into brewing, Kyle and his wife headed from Denver back to their roots in Greeley, Colorado. Using Kyle's dad's horse barn to create recipes and brew the initial batches may have been where it all started. But, where it will end, nobody knows. Each brew has a story all its own, and each day brings about new adventures, from beer slushies to stone ground mustard. You'll have to listen to make sense out of that statement. We hope you have as much fun listening as we did talking. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Malteurop Celebrates Craft Breweries During American Craft Beer Week -------------------------------------------------------------------- American Craft Beer Week takes place May 10–16, 2021. Multiple rivers flow into Mobile Bay, and as they do so, they slow down, spread out and cross paths with each other, forming a braided river system. David Nelson latched onto that analogy between the rivers and the brewing community, and Braided River Brewing Company in Mobile, Alabama, was born. Combining this philosophy with the outdoor activities popular in Mobile Bay, such as kayaking and canoeing, David leaned fully into that braiding ideal. Welcome to the second in our series of podcasts where we have partnered up with Malteurop Malting Company (MMC) to highlight some amazing craft breweries for the upcoming American Craft Beer Week, May 10-16. Transitioning from being a chemist in North Carolina to a brewer and brewery owner in Alabama, David Nelson has grasped the concept of living life on his terms. This is Braided River's story of inception to conception (during a pandemic, no less), but because breweries require a lot of love, patience and grunt work, this is David's story just as much. We talk brewing, canning, and styles of beer - this is a craft beer podcast - but we also talk life. The hardships of opening a new business. The joy of being on the water. The importance of sustainability. The community that keeps us all together during good and bad times. 2020 has been an interesting year, and David has made it a successful one, a braided journey of community, of living in the moment. A journey of realizing that even in bad times, dreams can happen. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Malteurop Celebrates Craft Breweries During American Craft Beer Week -------------------------------------------------------------------- American Craft Beer Week takes place May 10–16, 2021. Sketchbook Brewing Company was born out of a love for art, community and craft beer. With their first location in Evanston, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, they had big plans of opening a second location in 2020. We all know what happened in 2020. Did they give up? Not a chance! The sketches of a dream still became a reality. And during a pandemic, Sketchbook Brewing grew from one location to two. Welcome to the second in our series of podcasts where we have partnered up with Malteurop Malting Company (MMC) to highlight some amazing craft breweries for the upcoming American Craft Beer Week, May 10-16. Meet Cesar Marron, Managing Partner and Head Brewer at Sketchbook. An avid homebrewer, while working full-time, Cesar is not one to sit still. So, why not open up a brewery? And that he did. Growing up in Brazil and harnessing a work ethic and responsibility from helping at his parents' business when he was a teen, influenced him immensely. He had to figure things out then, and later when he moved to America on his own. That independence has served him well. If he didn't know what to do, he'd learn what to do. Maybe that's why he loves hardware stores and sketchbooks so much. From day one of planning for their 2014 opening to today, Cesar and his team are voracious DIY'ers, artisans and crafters. It's what kept them going during the pandemic and what will keep them going strong afterwards, as well. We've said it again and again, "Beer is about so much more than just beer." We hope this conversation puts a smile on your face like the one on Cesar's above. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Malteurop Celebrates Craft Breweries During American Craft Beer Week -------------------------------------------------------------------- American Craft Beer Week takes place May 10–16, 2021. They just can't stay away from teaching or brewing. That serves all beer lovers quite nicely. Never brewing the same thing twice, these two are passionate about everything they do. And they do everything. Their website is phenomenal. They're active on social media, and they even have their very own podcast, The Mötley Brewers ( https://www.schoolhousebeer.com/beer-blogs/ ). I warned them about not burning out because we need their beer and their wisdom. Their response? "We're too bright to burn out." Gretchen Jones, intuitive business advisor and sartorial inspiration connects with us about: -The power of “leaning in” as an active practice of listening for messages and opening doors for yourself that were there all along. -The ways in which we become powerful through personal expression as we embrace and embody what FEELS GOOD. -The similarities between bringing a child or bringing creative work into the world. -How living with intention is about choosing active, mindful living over passive, reactive living. -Why alignment is the opposite of “choking” our dreams into existence -That letting go of our egos can be the difference between gratitude and struggle -How asking WHY can create a life that is more effortless than effort-full. -Intuition (trust) vs. instinct (fear). -Why there is no failure, only feedback. -The power of analyzing our attachments to certain outcomes in our lives. -Why intentional dissociation is valuable: less as a survival tactic, more as a magical tool. -The critical responsibility all creatives and parents face as participants in society. -Why we should be asking ourselves questions that challenge our way of doing things! -How raising fluid, flexible, intuitive, critical-thinking children is the key to a kinder, looser, easier, collaborative world. What does it mean to slow down in this day and age? Gretchen Jones has some thoughts on this. We sat down with the designer turned business coach to discuss her slow and steady evolution in fashion from Project Runway winner to one of the most sought-after executives in the industry. In this interview, Gretchen shared her insights into the slow content movement and why thinking big-picture is vital both in business and in life. This episode also opens with a story contributed by Laura Choi of Par en Par.

Gretchen Jones is the controversial winner of season 8 of Project Runway. Her singular style won the show, but her bold and ambitious personality led her to be cast as the season’s villain. In this interview with contributor Heather Lewenza, Gretchen talks about what led her to put herself out there on television, what life was like after sudden fame, and how she’s discovered her true career path through it all. Just a note, this recording does have several words that you may not find appropriate for young listeners.
