Farm-to-glass breweries are a truly phenomenal experience as a drinker, so it was such a pleasure to chat with some folks who are doing one of the finest in the province. Phil and Gail of GoodLot Farmstead joined Cee and Nate to talk about their journey from leaving the city to buy a farm, starting to grow hops and learn about beer to becoming a full-fledged brewery, why sustainability is important to them, their approach to beer and why they focus on all-Ontario ingredients, the difference between organic farming and regenerative farming, how they've crafted their impeccable beer garden experience, their phenomenal food program via chef Phil DeWar of Soulyve, and the collaboration between the Caledon breweries. They got into some of GoodLot's amazing brews - Farmstead Ale Pale Ale, Philsner Pilsner, Highfalutin English Special Bitter, Yonder West Coast IPA, Stones Throw East Coast IPA, and Pippa Porter. This was a gem - cheers!  BAOS Podcast Subscribe to the podcast on YouTube | Website | Theme tune: Cee - BrewHeads

We're right at the end of hop harvest season, so now's the time to bask in the seasonal glory that is fresh and wet hop beers. We expand our understanding of fresh and wet hop beers on this episode by sifting through the research while drinking five pretty incredible local beers using those straight-from-the-bines hops. Also, we have a little unfulfilled Chekov's Corgi situation; we take some responsibility for getting the Conservatory slide shut down; Ryan's got a metaphor straight from 2005; Craig's writing his new erotica about a Hop Farm; and we explain why Three Floyds is totally normal now.  Beers Reviewed Solemn Oath Brewery - Kidnapped By Vikings: Fresh Hop (IPA) Mikerphone Brewing - Defresh Mode (DIPA) 3 Floyds Brewing - Broo Doo (Harvest Ale) Phase Three Brewing - Fresh Fresh (Hazy IPA) Off Color Brewing - Aqua Predator (Saison)

Then, we were joined by our guest Mel Larrick of Hop Farm who told us about her background in distilling, working an internship with Sloop Brewing, her favorite Hudson Valley beer, her "most memorable" Pittsburgh beer, and much more! Hey Friends! Every episode, I take a deep dive with my guests about their life, experiences, life lessons with the goal to share with all of you new perspectives. I believe there is so much power in learning from one another that allows us to uncover new things about ourselves and the more we uncover about our individual self, the closer we get to feeling what we are all looking for and that is purpose. Today I have such a cool guest. I'm joined by Pedram Valiani from the bands Frontierer, Sectioned, and We (are). We connect on instagram and you'll hear in this episode how it all came together. He took me through the journey from not really being a fan of music to finding what he truly loved about music. We talked about what truly matters to Ped when it comes to music and being a creator. I found so many parallels to my own experience in craft beer. There's so many good moments in this episode, so I won't give them all away. Also - pardon in advance that I had a couple fangirl moments, but overall I do have such an appreciation for what this band is doing and how they approach creating music for us as fans. I appreciate you all supporting the show. If you would like to continue to support this show and the other work I'm doing, you can follow along my adventures primarily on instagram meganfromtheblacklagoon. Lastly, this will be my final plug here about the LIVE SHOW my other podcast (Halloween is Forever) has coming up THIS FUCKING SATURDAY. We are doing this live show for our one year anniversary! I'm terrified and excited all at once. The live recording is coinciding with a beer release that I'm part of called May Queen. It's the second year we are releasing the beer with Hop Farm Brewing in the neighborhood of Lawrenceville here in beautiful Pittsburgh. HIF got involved because the whole beer name / style was derived from the 2019 Ari Aster classic Midsommar. So here are the details - June 25th from 7-10PM at Hop Farm in their warehouse, we will be sippin' on some May Queen, raising money for the Pink Boots Society and then from 8-9 HIF will kick off a really fun live recording where we are going to highlight clips from the movie Midsommar. Good Beer Hunting

Good Beer Hunting

If you've gone on a brewery tour or listened to someone wax poetic about what goes into a beer, you may have heard this phrase: “Beer is an agricultural product.” It's a simple statement, but one that's repeated because it can often get lost. We most often exist around beer's final state—an alcoholic liquid dispensed from a tap or poured from a bottle or can. No wonder we aren't actively thinking about what happens before we take that first sip. In this episode, we're taking a chance to step back in that timeline with Audrey Gehlhausen and Chris DellaBianca of Billy Goat Hop Farm, a 32-acre, family-owned farm in Montrose, Colorado, where Audrey and Chris harvest hops like Cascade, Chinook, Comet, and more. They're responsible for one of the core ingredients in beer that provides a host of aromas and flavors. But we're not just talking about all that, as Audrey and Chris' connection to beer through farming raises a range of other important topics that touch climate change, labor, and running a business. While I'm certainly guilty of not overthinking each beer I'm drinking, I love knowing the value of interactions like this. To pause and think about how beer touches so much before it hits the side of your glass. Beer is an agricultural product, and in this conversation, you'll get another opportunity to learn why.
