Sammy Hagar's passion for tequila runs deep, but his commitment to earning and preserving the trust of his fans runs even deeper. Santo Spirits is where those two worlds meet. The iconic rock star, best known for his time as the frontman of Van Halen, made his mark on stage. But it's in the world of consumer packaged goods where he truly built his fortune. Sammy is the mastermind behind Cabo Wabo Tequila, a trailblazer in the celebrity spirit revolution that's now a staple in the beverage alcohol industry. In 2008, drinks conglomerate Campari Group made a historic move, acquiring Cabo Wabo for a groundbreaking $100 million — an unprecedented deal at the time. Nine years later, Sammy made a triumphant return to the spirits world with Santo, a tequila-focused brand he co-founded alongside fellow musician Adam Levine of Maroon 5. Building on the success of Santo, the brand grew even stronger in 2019 when celebrity chef Guy Fieri came on board as a co-founder, bringing his flair and influence to the brand. In this candid conversation, Sammy opens up about his vision for Santo, emphasizing the brand's dedication to purity and excellence. He shares his insights into the challenges of the celebrity tequila market, why, despite his success with Cabo Wabo, he remains cautious about creating a mass-market brand, and the importance of authentic relationships within the spirits industry. Sammy also discusses his approach to building teams and why, for him, hiring the right people is about finding fresh perspectives, not yes-men. Show notes: 0:25: Sammy Hagar, Co-Founder, Santo Spirits – Sammy shares his mixed feelings about living in California and draws comparisons between the challenges of the music industry and the complexities of the beverage alcohol sector. He also reveals the origins of Cabo Wabo Tequila and reflects on the simpler days of brand-building, when creating a lasting brand felt more intuitive. He discusses the explosive rise of celebrity-backed tequila brands and their impact on the market, providing insight into the creation of Santo and the groundbreaking launch of its “mezquila”—a fusion of mezcal and tequila. Sammy opens up about his early collaboration with Adam Levine, shedding light on their shared vision and why Guy Fieri stands out as someone who outworks everyone in the business. He also emphasizes the importance of entrepreneurs who challenge the status quo, offering his thoughts on how younger generations are reshaping their relationship with alcohol. He also shares his long-term vision for Santo, and how he is positioning the brand for enduring success in an ever-evolving industry. Brands in this episode: Santo Spirits, Cabo Wabo Tequila, Casamigos, Ocho Tequila
The Gold Rush of 2025: Why Resellers Must Act Now, TELCLOUD POTS & Shots Podcast, With an estimated 130 million POTS lines still active in the U.S.—30 million of them in commercial use—resellers have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help businesses modernize while securing long-term recurring revenue "The opportunity isn't just coming—it's here, and it's massive," says Jake Jacoby, TELCLOUD. In this edition of POTS & Shots, Doug Green, publisher of Technology Reseller News, sits down with the always-insightful Jake Jacoby of TELCLOUD to discuss why 2025 marks the biggest shift yet in POTS line replacement. With an estimated 130 million POTS lines still active in the U.S.—30 million of them in commercial use—resellers have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to help businesses modernize while securing long-term recurring revenue. Why 2025 Is the Year to Move POTS line replacement has been in the works for years, but after delays due to COVID-19, the transition is now accelerating rapidly. Carriers are shutting down copper lines and raising prices due to deregulation, putting immense pressure on businesses—especially those that rely on life-safety lines for elevators, alarms, and emergency systems. Jacoby predicts that 30% of all remaining POTS lines will be replaced this year alone, with another 30% in 2026. That means resellers who act now can capitalize on a high-demand, high-value service before the market reaches saturation. How Resellers Can Strike Gold For resellers, the playbook is simple: Talk to your customers. Ask them about their copper lines, review their bills, and highlight rising costs. Target multi-location businesses. Retail chains, hospitals, and commercial buildings are feeling the squeeze. Be proactive. Waiting will only lead to delays in equipment availability and field service bottlenecks. TELCLOUD is empowering resellers by offering white-label marketing, technical support, billing assistance, and field services, ensuring they have everything needed to seize this opportunity without selling direct. A Tequila Fit for a Gold Rush No POTS & Shots episode is complete without a top-tier tequila recommendation. This week, Jake highlights Casamigos, the billion-dollar tequila brand founded by George Clooney and Rande Gerber. Known for its smooth, sippable taste, it's perfect straight or in a cocktail—a modern take on a classic, much like POTS replacement itself. Join us in Part 6 of our ongoing podcast series as we blend industry expertise with a splash of fun – because, like a fine liquor, great conversations are meant to be savored. Visit www.telcloud.com or call 844-900-2270 to discover how you can stake your claim in the POTS replacement gold rush About TELCLOUD TELCLOUD, the global leader in white-label POTS line replacement, enables channel partners worldwide to grow their businesses with our customizable and scalable Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS). I met Ambre at the infamous pre-Bar Convent Berlin networking hosted by Thorsten Husmann a couple of years ago, and learned she had just founded the first woman-owned tequila brand in the Netherlands, Lala. Ambre is fascinating: a wellness guru but not woo-woo (very likely due to her no-nonsense Dutch upbringing) who came to love great tequila after living and teaching fancy yoga classes in Williamsburg (of course!) Brooklyn, she got the idea for Lala after avocado toast brunch and many a glass of good tequila, and she now lives and runs the company from Amsterdam. We had a great chat, covering the CRT controversy around tequila additive labelling, Uncle Nearest whiskey founder Fawn Weaver's baffling Instagram posts on the same topic, grappling with the realities of establishing an all-female supply chain, why I should become a full-time transatlantic Casamigos smuggler, the role of assholes in the workplace, the poverty tourism of trade visitors to mezcal and tequila distilleries, and how to decompress after Athens Bar Show!Enjoy!Ambre on IG: https://www.instagram.com/ambrevandeberg/?hl=enAmbre's website: https://www.ambrevandeberg.com/Lala Tequila on IG: https://www.instagram.com/drinkelala?igsh=MWNkaGJwb2d6aXI5cw==Lala Tequila website: https://www.lalatequila.com/ Get in touch with Duff!Podcast business enquiries: consulting@liquidsolutions.org (PR friends: we're only interested in having your client on if they can talk for a couple of hours about OTHER things than their prepared speaking points or their new thing, whatever that is, for a few hours. I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Ewan Morgan, Head of Whiskey Outreach and National Luxury Ambassador for Diageo who owns some of the largest liquor brands in the world, from Tanqueray & Casamigos, to Guiness and Non-Alcoholic brand Seedlip. But what most may not know, is that Diageo also owns a fair share of high end labels too, like Lagavulin and Mortlach. And after four decades of closure, the iconic Port Ellen distillery in the Island of Islay is reopening with Diageo in a historic moment for the Scotch industry. Ewan and I chat about the Scotch Whiskey collecting market, growing up in a family who lives and breathes the spirit, and he even takes me through a tasting of the new Port Ellen Gemini release, retailing for fifty thousand dollars. And to top it all off, we recorded at an amazing ten million dollar apartment on One Wall Street thanks to our friends at Optimist. Ewan is truly an expert which is why he's worked his way up to have what most would consider one of the greatest jobs in the world. Last week Mexican authorities raided the home and office of Tequila Matchmaker (TM), also known as the Additive Free Alliance. For many years, their forum has been a place for agave distillate fanatics to visit along with their work to certify tequilas that are free of approved additives that are not required to be listed on a bottle's label. Their work has begun to affect sales of major brands that are not shown to be additive-free. One agave influencer, @tequilajaybaer, cited 9 and 14 percent drops in sales of Casamigos and Don Julio respectively (see it here).Know someone who might like this? Feel free to share it.The situation is complex. Not simple. Some people say that the push for additive-free tequila is overshadowing other issues that are important like sustainable farming practices, labor wages, preservation of Mexican heritage, and more, but everyone seems to agree that Grover and Scarlet Sanschagrin of TM have been forces for good in agave. While it cannot be fully linked, it is likely the government has taken such dramatic action because powerful forces have seen their income impacted.* Vinepair article documenting the raid* Emma Janzen wrote a bit on the Matchmaker situation and has said more is coming.* The history of tequila* Support Grover and Scarlet here This is a public episode. Today is our first episode with a repeat guest! The one and only Katie Beal Brown is back on the show and we're talking all about creating a strong brand identity. We're diving into the importance of knowing your audience, the power of storytelling, and the opportunities and challenges that come with being the face of your brand. Katie Beal Brown is a fourth-generation West Texan, born and raised in Midland, TX. Growing up, some of her fondest memories were from the time spent with her grandparents out on their family's ranch in Far West Texas near Fort Davis. Katie attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX, where she met her future husband, Tyler Brown, a Houston native and seventh-generation Texan. Katie and Tyler Brown married in her hometown of Midland in 2013 and immediately moved to New York, NY where he had an opportunity in private equity real estate and she continued to grow her career in advertising. With years of experience at industry-leading agencies, she set out on a new venture to build her own brand, Lone River, celebrating her roots in West Texas. Lone River pioneered the tequila-style hard seltzer category with its introduction of Lone River Ranch Water and more recently Lone River Ranch Rita. After less than a year of record sales, Lone River Beverage Company was purchased by Diageo, one of the world's largest producers of spirits and beers including world class brands like Casamigos, Crown Royal, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Guinness and more. Lone River now leads the tequila-style seltzer category as the #1 Ranch Water in the U.S. Katie continues to lead the business on a day-to-day basis, as CEO of the brand and works closely with Diageo leadership to build further on Lone River's success. Why is a century-old apple orchard and cider company betting big on the future of cannabis? Eddie Brennan, the fifth-generation owner of New York-based Beak & Skiff, discussed its foray and continued investment into the cultivation of cannabis and production of THC-infused drinks. The company built and operates a 20,000 sq. ft manufacturing and co-packing facility dedicated to the cannabis beverages, one that Brennan described as the largest on the East Coast. Also in this episode: the hosts' take on Ocean Spray's new line of zero-sugar juice (and why an asterisk is involved) and what Travis Kelce, Michael Bublé and Matthew McConaughey now have in common. Show notes: 0:35: Wrong Pipe. White Out Is Not Nail Polish. Secret Spray. That Was Swift. We Don't Need No Pants. – Ray kicked off the show by explaining how he choked on his ride to the office, the hosts collectively agreed that “White Out” had its day and is not to be sniffed, and expressed skepticism about Ocean Spray's new products and how consumers may perceive them. They also riffed on Travis Kelce's new brand of refrigerated entrees, which of three new celebrity-backed beverage alcohol brands has the best shot of being successful, a “pointless” ginger ale and why Jacqui's instant review of a particular drink brand is not to be missed. 30:12: Interview: Eddie Brennan, CEO, Beak & Skiff – Brennan spoke about taking the reins of his family's business, the reason for entering the cannabis space and how Beak & Skiff's customers reacted to the move and what he views as the trajectory for cannabis beverages. Sketch comedian. Ghostbuster. Vodka entrepreneur. It's all in a life's work for the remarkable Dan Aykroyd. An original cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” Aykroyd is perhaps best known for the film franchise “Ghostbusters” in which he plays Ray Stanz, the proton pack-wearing ghoul fighter, a role that he will reprise in an upcoming sequel. He's less recognized, however, as the co-founder of Crystal Head Vodka, a globally distributed, ultra-premium spirit brand identified by its distinctive skull-shaped bottle. Launched in 2008, Crystal Head Vodka is atypical of celebrity-backed spirits in that its association with Dan is not front and center. Although he does meet-and-greet events with consumers and occasionally goes on sales calls, the brand was designed and developed to be sold on its own merits. It's a point of pride for Aykroyd who praised the company's emphasis on business fundamentals and premium positioning. In this episode, Aykroyd spoke about cutting his teeth in beverage alcohol as an importer of Patron tequila, how Crystal Head Vodka enhances its resonance with the heavy metal community, how he attempts to establish an authentic relationship with consumers, and, why, despite the company's long standing independence, he may be interested in aligning with a certain luxury-centric conglomerate. Show notes: 0:48: Interview: Dan Aykroyd, Co-Founder, Crystal Head Vodka – Aykroyd chatted with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif about Crystal Head Vodka's limited-edition "Paint Your Pride" bottle before discussing the brand's origins, the inspiration behind the skull package and its initial reception among retailers and bar directors. He also explained how he's built sustainable relationships with distributors, what makes him an effective salesman and why he believes that his celebrity has a limited impact on the brand's past and future. Later, he spoke about the delineation of roles and responsibilities among the company's ownership team and what postal work has to do with their harmonious relationship, why his friend and fellow actor Bill Murray doesn't drink Crystal Head Vodka (a sister whiskey brand is another story) and answered an infamous question with a “little g.” Brands in this episode: Crystal Head Vodka, Patron, Casamigos, Teremana

On today's episode, I am joined by Katie Beal Brown, the founder and CEO of Lone River Beverage Company. We're talking all about the importance of taking risks, how changing your perspective mitigates your fear of risk, and how the personal growth process is far more important than achieving your goal. They have until July 17 to get a deal done or he will have to play under the franchise tag of $10 million. He is probably looking for $40 million guaranteed but that would be money poorly spent. Boomer did say that from Saquon's perspective, it's insulting to only get $10 million. Boomer said he wouldn't sign it either. Hour 2: Boomer's got a hot take that he's taking out of the oven. Boomer said there have been a lot of great games in NBA history, but we are witnessing the greatest individual playoff performance with Nikola Jokic. And we are right in the middle of it. Boomer said there have been a lot of great games in NBA history, but we are witnessing the greatest individual playoff performance with Nikola Jokic. And we are right in the middle of it. Gio said if his house caught fire, and everyone was safe, is there something in the house he would go and get? Hour 3: We talked about the Mets and Shohei Ohtani. The Mets would have to give up a ton, and that doesn't make sense unless they are guaranteed to get him beyond this season. He is going to be the highest paid player in pro sports. The Phillies announcers thought Francisco Lindor was showing them up when he essentially bounced a ball to first base to complete an easy double play. Do you guys floss everyday? Al does, nobody else on the staff does. Jerry returns for an update but first we talked about the NY Rangers dentist. A sensational number from Post Malone. A$AP Rocky's critically acclaimed crowd pleaser. And an unexpected hit from Kevin Hart. What may sound like a Spotify playlist is actually a trio of brands built and marketed by Global Brand Equities. Founded in 2019 by Irish expat James Morrissey, Global Brand Equities is focused on developing innovative and creator-led beverage alcohol brands. Morrissey's vision is to meet modern consumers where they live and drink via a contemporary approach to alcoholic beverages, one that lives at the intersection of media, entertainment and premium experiences. Global Brand Equities has aligned with the aforementioned Malone, Rocky and Hart to launch fast-growing brands Maison No 9 French Rosé, Mercer + Prince Canadian Whisky and Gran Coramino Tequila, respectively. The company also markets Sunny Vodka, a premium spirit co-founded by social media influencers Zack Bia and Stas Karanikolaou. In this episode, Morrissey spoke about how his prior experience in hospitality has shaped his perspective on novel consumer brands, the foundations for mutually beneficial celebrity partnerships, why it is critical to understand and operate within the traditional infrastructure for producing and distributing beverage alcohol brands and the effectiveness of its multi-pronged marketing strategy. Show notes: 0:46: Interview: James Morrissey, Founder, Global Brand Equities – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif met with Morrissey at Global Brand Equities' office in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan where they riffed on the entrepreneur's familiar name and discussed how his background as a club and nightlife promoter in Ireland led him to New York City. He also explained his belief that the beverage alcohol industry had lacked an authentic connection to modern consumers and lacked the type of desirable innovation seen in other industries, why he saw the rosé wine category as ripe for a consumer-facing brand and how he first met and cultivated a relationship with Post Malone.
