Hear our thoughts on Tron, Toy Story Mania, the Imagination Pavilion, the Skyliner, and much more! Also, we talk about the fact that Disney is doing really well in this area right now! Episode Summary:Grab your festival maps and loosen your belts—Scott and Candice are back with Part 2 of our deep dive into the 2025 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival menus! In this episode, we pick up at Flavors of America and make our way all the way around World Showcase, wrapping up at the new booths near the Imagination Pavilion. Along the way, we debate lobster bisque on bread, gush over cheese bread from Brazil, puzzle over blonde stouts, and plan how to juggle our financial, dietary, and appetite budgets (thanks, Space 220 and Ale & Compass). From spanakopita in Greece to sparkling pineapple wine in Hawaii, and even a Bananas Foster cream ale (yes, you read that right), we're tasting with our imaginations and building our must-try lists. Plus, we ask the big questions—like why there's still no UK festival booth, and whether pistachios deserve a second chance. We close with a shoutout to Joffrey's special festival drinks and lay the groundwork for a future episode where we'll rank our festival favorites E-ticket style.Highlights in this episode:

In the 202nd episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn and Dave are celebrating National Bucket List Day!  This leads to a discussion about the things, mostly travel related, that are on both their bucket lists... places they'd like to visit, cruises they'd like to take, ground they'd like to set their feet upon, and theme parks to fly to. First though, Jenn is getting ready for a huge travel summer, while Dave is putting a Cap on his wall. Then, a little news -- Epcot's Food & Wine Festival dates have been released, and we speculate on why the festival time period is shorter... and if it has to do anything with the upcoming CommuniCore opening.. and of course, speculation of what we might see in there. Then, Disney filed permits for work on the Imagination Pavilion, so we also make some wildly off base yet fully educated guesses as to what Disney might be doing next in this area. And, is Figment so popular that he still needs his own attraction?  Hollywood Studios has a 35th anniversary coming up... Smellephant is brand new in Magic Kingdom... new experiences require pre-payment (and why Mace Windu's lightsaber is purple)... and Jenn's joy that her favorite restaurant just got one huge award.  Then onto the Bucket List chat, which really just devolves into a travel discussion about places we want to go, but it's always entertaining.

Journey Into Imagination opened at EPCOT in 1983 and has been a part of Walt Disney World ever since. As part of the Imagination Pavilion conceived by Walt Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter, Journey Into Imagination took guests aboard a whimsical flight into the imagination, with Dreamfinder and Figment reminding guests that "One Little Spark" (a song written by Richard and Robert Sherman) can lead to an unlimited number of ideas. In this podcast episode, we discuss the history of Journey Into Imagination, including its replacements, Journey Into Your Imagination and (currently) Journey Into Imagination with Figment, along with some speculation as to what might be in store for this attraction's future. We hope that this gets you excited about a possible trip to Walt Disney World for the 50th Anniversary! Grab a drink, relax, and join us as we talk about all the things that we came up with! Here's our rundown of what we talked about: Cheddar from the Big CheeseMike: Over at Disneyland, on March 13th there is going to be a “Reopen Disneyland” rally. It will start at 8AM outside of the Disneyland Resort. Safety guidelines to be followed include masks on at all times, six feet social distancing, and sanitizing your hands frequently.Sophie: As we reported back on December 28th in our podcast “Looking ahead to 2021”, Blizzard Beach reopened yesterday, March 7th! Looking at the website, one day tickets for Blizzard Beach run just $69 dollars, so if you are interested, the pricing isn’t terrible for a day of water park fun! It is so cool looking, check it out! https://www.instagram.com/p/CL-jVVKhajk/Sophie: The Flower and Garden Festival started last week on March 3rd, and there is some really awesome merch to go with it! It looks like there are four five main themes to the merchandise:Hello Sunshine featuring the Orange BirdGrow Imagination featuring FigmentGrow Kindness featuring Minnie MouseCan You Dig It featuring MickeyCool as Can Bee featuring Spike the Bee.Mike: As part of the Flower and Garden Festival, the Egg-stravaganza Scavenger Hunt is returning to Epcot starting on March 19th! Purchase a map for $7.99 plus tax, then hunt for hidden eggs featuring Disney characters. When you find them all, return the map for a “sp-egg-tacular surprise!”Brenda: Lastly, over at the Imagination Pavilion you can find creatively placed fountains. They are known as the “Jumping Fountains” because they jump from one to another periodically. Well, since the closure in March 2020, they have not been working -- until last week! Jim Sarno was a Walt Disney Imagineer working on the opening team for Epcot. He worked in the model shop with Harriet Burns, Joe Rohde, and many more classic Imagineers. Working on many of the pavilions we know and love at Epcot - including The Land Pavilion, Imagination Pavilion, Communicore, and Spaceship Earth - Jim was responsible for creating SMRT-1, the fountain that once lived in the center of the Land Pavilion, and much more. In this episode, I interview Jim as we discuss how he came to work at Walt Disney Imagineering, the projects he worked on, and advice he has for those looking to work for Walt Disney Imagineering in the future. The total experience. Three little words that have so much meaning, but are so often overlooked. When Guests visit location-based entertainment offerings, they usually know what they are going to get. Maybe rides, probably stores and restaurants, places to sit and places to walk, things to see and do, and always plenty of ways to be relieved of their hard earned cash. But the total experience isn’t just important at that scale, total experience needs to be considered on smaller and more macro levels. A ride can exist in a vacuum. Board the ride, ride the ride, leave the ride. But the truly great attractions, the ones that people remember, are the ones that provide the total experience. What would the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey be without the expansive Hogwarts Queue or eclectic Filch’s shop at it’s coda? Sure, it’d be fun, but what takes Guests out of Florida, California, or Japan, and into the Scottish Highlands is the full immersion and the use of multiple elements to make a full entertainment composition. Let’s look at another way this was done. At the heart of Epcot Center, nestled sweetly near the threshold of Future World and World Showcase are beautiful and uniquely designed pyramids. These crystals of imagination are the home to a legendary extinct attraction, the original Journey into Imagination. While we’re certainly going to talk about that famous experience in a future talk, today, let’s look at how this pavilion was designed to provide the total experience. Much like a film, this attraction was not just designed to entertain riders, the very architecture itself is enticing and memorable. You’d be hard pressed to find a visitor who didn’t consider snapping a photo of these magnificent glass structures. It’s no wonder the original sponsor of the place was Kodak. Introducing you to the concept and exploration of the imagination was the original ride, a Journey into Imagination featuring your hosts Dreamfinder and his lovable purple dragon, Figment. Throughout your journey, Figment demonstrates all the ways you can use your imagination to create wondrous things. Music, literature, science, our little dragon friend was the perfect ambassador to the possible. But even at the end of the attraction, when Guests were feeling the drive to go out and create, this pavilion offers more. On the second floor lived the Image Works, a magnificent playground where Guests could let that imaginative momentum translate itself into real, tangible expressions of fancy. It would have been so easy to lead Guests through their fantastic voyage and set them loose in the park, but no, this total experience provided the appropriate coda to their trek. Reinforcing it still, Guests could then head over to the Magic Eye Theater, home to Magic Journeys, followed by Captain EO, finally hosting Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. Here, they could expand their inner eye and see images of wonder and whimsy. These three experiences together were not just an attraction or pavilion, they were a symphony, a complete expression of imaginative power and exploration. A visit to the Journey into Imagination Pavilion was an expedition all its own. Even the grounds were an extension of this adventure. Guests could meet Dreamfinder and Figment and play among dancing, jumping fountains. Among all of the opportunities for discovery and exploration the original Epcot Center cultivated, it was always good to know there was a little oasis for introspective exploration and fantastical fun ready to delight and entertain. It’s no mystery why upon the closure of the original attraction and Image Works there is such a nostalgic yearning for these experiences to return. There aren’t many documented cases of Guest fervor bringing back a beloved character, but the triumphant return of Figment stands as a testament to the power of imagination and, of course, the total experience.

Opposite Attractions: A Theme Park Design Show

This week, after a quick discussion of Scottye's recent travel and Jim's ideas for the Imagination Pavilion at Epcot, we set about giving the Mysterious Kingdom some epic water-based attractions. First up, Jim sends his guests on a search for silver and gold through treacherous mines and a potentially dangerous guided tour on Calamity Cliff's Cavern Cruise as they attempt to complete the Metal Detector Quest. Then, Scottye finds a tavern (of course) where an old wizard sends guests to acquire the Magno Sword and defeat an ancient evil in The Cave Of The Leviathan as they look to finish the The Quest For The Pisces Crystal.

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Let's take a Journey Into Our Imaginations with the lovable Figment as we ride EPCOT'S Journey Into Imagination With Figment.  Along for the ride is John B. deHaas who actually worked the original incarnation of this attraction.  How does he feel about the current version?  You'll have to listen to find out!  Audio recorded on October 28, 2016. Today we are going to visit the open house at the Imagination Institute as we ride Journey Into Imagination with Figment located in EPCOT’s future Word west at Walt Disney World in Florida.  The guide map describes this attraction by saying ‘Follow Figment in this whimsical open house tour of the Imagination Institute’.  This is a Dark, slow ride according to the the Thrill Level and it is open to guests of all ages and heights.  Fastness plus is offered. Before we meet up with Dr. Nigel Channing, here are five fast facts about Journey Into Imagination with Figment. 1. Journey into imagination with Figment opened on June 2, 2002.  This attraction is the third version of the attraction housed in Imagination Pavilion at EPCOT.  The original Journey Into Imagination opened on March 5, 1983.  It closed on October 10, 1998 for renovation and reopened on October 1, 1999 as Journey into Your Imagination which only lasted two years before it was closed on October 8, 2001 to make way for the latest incarnation. 2. For the ride, Eric Idle reprises his role of Dr. Nigel Channing from the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids Franchise.  The original voice of Figment, Billy Barty passed away in 2000 so Dave Goelz was hired to portray the new Figment.  If Dave Goelz’s name isn’t familiar, you certainly know of one of his other alter egos, Gonzo from The Muppets. 3. Journey Into Imagination with Figment marked the return of the Sherman Brother’s song One Little Spark.  This song featured prominently in the original Journey into imagination attraction but was removed for Journey into Your imagination which drew a lot of criticism from fans. 4. There are several references to other Disney movies in this attraction including The Absent Minded Professor, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes and Honey I Shrunk The Kids. 5. The ride also features some tributes to the classic Journey Into Imagination attraction.  Many animatronics and figures of Figment feature prominently in the ride and the reapperaing/dissapearing butterfly from the original can be seen as well.  There’s also a brief tribute to The Dreamfinder, the ride’s original host. Now, lets visit the Imagination institute and take a ride on Journey Into Imagination With Figment.  John B. deHaas is along for the ride today and after the ride audio, we’ll discuss our thoughts on this attraction.  This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones, put them on now as we set our imaginations free on EPCOT’S Journey Into Imagination with Figment. In episode 38, Heather Brainerd shares her trip with her son which included the Food Allergy and Celiac Convention.  We’ll learn all about how Disney World helps guests with food allergies. Momma Says: Memory Maker price going up 169 from 149 tomorrow. Day 1 – Coronado Springs and the Magic Kingdom (temps in the low 50s-high 40s) Magic Kingdom Dinner at Casey's Corner: Cale had his first GF Disney meal. The hot dog was fine, but the bun was not. We decided that we'll have to find a new place for our traditional first meal at Disney. Used our FP+ for Jingle Cruise – loved the holiday overlay. Went on Haunted Mansion, shopped at Momento Mori (great store!), shopped at Main Street Emporium, and headed back to the resort. Day 2 – Animal Kingdom and Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (temps started in the 40s, went up into the 60s, then back down into the 50s. Sunny all day.) Animal Kingdom Scheduled to open at 9am that morning, but that was changed to 8am. We still wanted to rope drop it, so we were up by 6am. Yikes! But it was so worth it! Huge Christmas tree on the way into the park. Went straight to Expedition Everest, and were told that the ride was down due to extreme cold. Extreme cold!? It was in the 40s. Floridians are wimps. Rode Dinosaur twice in a row, then rode Primeval Whirl and Triceratops Spin. Stopped at the awesome food allergy kiosk to purchase some baked goods. We enjoyed these at the seating area behind Tamu Tamu. Took the Wildlife Express to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Took the train back to Harambe and went on Safari. Due to the “extreme cold,” the animals were quite active. Did Dinosaur five times that day! MVMCP We made it to the castle a few minutes before the Frozen “lighting ceremony.” Frozen may be taking over the World, and that might not necessarily be a good thing, but I loved this show. It was beautiful. I kind of teared up a little. Went on a bunch of rides: Space Mountain twice, the Peoplemover, Under the Sea, Barnstormer, Philharmagic. There may be some I'm forgetting. Most of the ride lines were short to nonexistent, so we did a lot! BLT hot dog from the Lunching Pad as my dinner. It was delish! Free cookies and hot chocolate at Pinocchio's Village Haus. (They even had GF cookies.) Watched the Holiday Wishes fireworks from the Tomorrowland bridge. Amazing! Afterwards, we strolled over to Frontierland to stake out a spot for the Christmastime parade. While waiting for the parade to start, we were entertained by the Notorious Banjo Brothers and Bob. (Their hats and instruments were decked out in Christmas lights and they played holiday tunes.) The parade provided many more teary-eyed moments for me. It was fantastic! When it ended, we went to BTMR, then stopped by the Diamond Horseshoe for the dance party with the Country Bears. We did some more rides, and then stopped by Gaston's Tavern for a brew. We left the party right around midnight and made our way home to Coronado Springs. Day 3 – Epcot and DHS (temps in the 60s to low 70s. Sunny all day.) Epcot We kept up our rope-dropping ways, this time going straight to Test Track and single riding it with no wait whatsoever. Headed to The Land side of the park for a popcorn snack. As we munched, Cale glanced over toward the Imagination Pavilion and said, “Hey, that looks like Ariel!” We went over for a closer look, and sure enough, there she was, meeting and greeting. The line was short, we hopped in it, and had our first ever random Ariel encounter. She was great! This was one of those special “pixie dust” moments, as this meet-and-greet wasn’t even listed on the Epcot times guide. Akershus for lunch with the princesses. The food, atmosphere, and princesses were amazing! This was Cale's first GF table service meal at Disney. The chef came out to discuss his options, and he loved his chicken. Cale agreed to go to the American Pavilion with me to see Voices of Liberty (something I’ve never done and always wanted to). We strolled over there, stopping in Germany along the way. Unfortunately, VoL was replaced by a jazz trio. They were great, but they weren’t VoL. So, I’ve yet to see them live. After that, we wandered the rest of the way around the World Showcase, used our FP+ for Soarin', and went on Living with the Land. DHS We took the bus from Epcot to DHS (a mere 10-minute ride). Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights lighting ceremony. OMG! This was even MORE moving than the castle lighting and the Christmas parade. Tower of Terror, visited the animation art store, and headed out about 45 minutes before park close. Cale wanted to close the park that night, but after two nights in a row of only 4 hours of sleep, I needed an early one. Back at the resort, I went to Pepper Market (the food court) and brought dinner back to the room. Cheese empanadas and nachos – yum! On the way from our room to Pepper Market, passed kids talking about the pool. (“Think Mom will take us back to the pool?” “Yeah, the bar's still open!”) Day 4 – FACC and Magic Kingdom (temps in the 70s with misty rain.) The Food Allergy and Celiac Convention was great! We learned a lot, got lots of GF samples and info, and saw awesome demonstrations by Disney chefs! What a wonderful opportunity this was. For lunch, we grabbed something quick at Pepper Market. MK It was a rainy day, but by the time we got to the park, it was just a light mist, and soon stopped altogether. We did a couple of pirate adventures, used our FP+ for 7DMT, did more rides (including a Space Mtn FP+) and pirate adventures, had dinner at Columbia Harbour House (the best place for GF counter service), and used our FP+ for Peter Pan. Near midnight, I ran out of steam. I headed out, but Cale stayed for EMH (midnight to 2am) and had “the best night at Disney ever!” Day 5 – DHS (temps in the 80s and sunny!) We rope-dropped DHS and headed straight for RnRC. I'm claustrophobic, and the shoulder harness gets me, so I have to really be in the mood for this ride. We then tried to go on ToT, but it was down. So we had breakfast at Starring Rolls. (They did have some GF options.) Afterwards, we did ToT on stand-by, immediately followed by ToT via FP+. We used our TSMM FP+, did some last-minute souvenir shopping, and then used our last FP+ of the trip – Star Tours. On our way out, Cale pulled the Indiana Jones rope for the first time. We took the bus back to the hotel, took the Tragical Express to MCO, and said good-bye to FL. Best trip ever? Quite possibly Heather Fraser Brainerd amazon.com/author/hfbrainerd DrivingBlindProductions.wordpress.com facebook.com/BrainerdFraser twitter.com/HFBrainerdThe post Geekin' On WDW 038: How to Learn and Have Fun – Heather Brainerd's Celiac Convention and WDW Trip Report first appeared on Geekin' On WDW Podcast.

(((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) Episode theme: Journey Into Imagination   Before we delve into this episode’s theme, we take in part three of three of a very special feature.  Back in 2006, yours truly sat in on a Walt Disney World Audition Workshop.  It was an intense couple of hours of enthusiastic performers needing a reality check and casting directors there to provide it, all in the spirit of better preparing those auditioning so they could earn one of the coveted performing spots.  Whether you’re a performer a not, enjoy an inside glimpse at what it takes to audition for Walt Disney World.   Next I’ll introduce you to Shawn and Katie, hosts of the popular, Waltcast.    Next, learn about the history and rumored future of one of Epcot’s most beloved and missed attractions, Journey Into Imagination.   Next, from D23s Destination D in May 2011, composer Richard Sherman is joined by none other than the Dreamfinder from the original Journey Into Imagination for a delightful sing-along.   Then, from the Attraction Audio Archive we enjoy the full ride-through of the original Journey Into Imagination! In from the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, Disneyland Record.   On Epcot Center’s opening day, October 1st1982, NBC Today Show hosted a live special covering opening day.  Bryant Gumble was on hand to interview the one and only Dreamfinder, portrayed by Ron Schneider, and Imagineer Barry Braverman!   Each show we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West.   This week take in a live version of the current version, Journey Into Imagination with Figment.  I think you’ll find the comparison rather striking… and maybe just a little disappointing.  But don’t take my word for it! Listen for yourself then join me on Facebook and post your comments!   We close the show with song played in the other Imagination Pavilion attraction on opening day, the 3D film, Magic Journeys.  Like One Little Spark, Makin’ Memories and Magic Journeys were written by the Sherman Brothers.  Makin’ Memories was part of the pre-show to the film, and Magic Journeys served as the films theme music.   Gary Chambers (805) 270-5785 The Mouse Lounge http://www.mouselounge.com Subscribe to our write a review about the Mouse Lounge Podcast: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=180696323     The Mouse Lounge is a fan-based podcast and is not affiliated with the Walt Disney Company or its subsidiaries.  Non factual statements made by the Mouse Lounge hosts, Gary Chambers and his guests are their current opinions only and are subject to change without notice.  All copyrighted material used with permission or under the Fair Use Doctrine in Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act.  Although the information in this program is believed to be reliable, Mr. Chambers, and Mouselounge.com do not make any representations or warranties as to its accuracy or completeness, nor do they assess, verify or guarantee the suitability of information.
