Being sheltered in place due to COVID 19 has presented a unique and unusual challenge to continue to conduct conversations with artists and industry insiders. One of the benefits of being isolated is taking time to do some housekeeping of computer audio and video files. I literally stumbled across what you will hear next…my very first on air radio interview in 2011… and it was a precious one… with Grammy nominated songwriter Iris Dement. Iris and her husband Greg Brown were coming to Kansas City to headline a fundraising concert in support of a local nonprofit’s child services program. Iris, born in Paragould, Arkansas is the youngest of 14 children raised in the Dement’s Pentecostal household. As you will hear in this conversation, Iris' mother had harbored dreams of going to Nashville and starting a singing career. Although she put those plans on hold to get married, her singing voice was an inspiration and influence for her youngest daughter Iris. Iris spent nearly 20 years in Kansas City…played her first open mic here as she slowly but surely navigated her way into the musical family that has become known as Americana. Perhaps best known for her song “Our Town” and her duets with the legendary John Prine, Iris’ body of work deserves close and focused attention. It runs the gamut with songs of love, redemption, religious skepticism, introspection, small town life, and protest with topics as diverse as sexual abuse, religion, government policy and warmongering. Iris could not have been more gracious and kind in this interview conducted very very early on a Tuesday morning. I have been and always will be a fan. Wally West and Cisco have returned to Central City, however the good news doesn't last long. The speed force is dying due to the power enhancement Barry got from Spectre during Crisis. Wally confronts Barry about not telling him there was anything wrong with the speed force which leaves Wally angry. Meanwhile, Frida Novikov aka Turtle 2.0, a metahuman who can manipulate time, shows up to murder an informant, but is later defeated by Wally and Barry. Later, Cisco is attacked by Thawne, who has taken over Nash’s body and as a result, has no speed powers. After he gets incapacitated by Cecile, Thawne is then imprisoned in the pipe line. This gives Barry the idea to create his own speed force, now that the original speed force has died, so that he doesn’t lose his speed when the residual speed force energy in his body wears off. Elsewhere, Kamilla discovers a digital photograph that reveals mirror Iris' true nature, but is then shot by the Mirror gun by Mirror Iris.

Barry and Iris' valentines date is interrupted by Amunet Black, who steals a valuable brief case containing a device. The two track Amunet to Ivo Labs where she is confronted by her ex-boyfriend Goldface, who gets away with the device Amunet was attempting to steal. Barry and Iris witness the confrontation between them, before leaving with the device in the brief case. After a brief argument with Barry over life choices, Iris allies herself with Amunet by giving her the device. Afterwards, Amunet and Goldface reconcile as do Barry and Iris, who is revealed to still be trapped in the mirror at McCulloch Tech and that Eva was impersonating her the whole time. Meanwhile, Frost convinces Allegra to reconnect with her ex boyfriend, while Nash starts seeing visions of Harry.

Following Oliver's death and the events of the "Crisis", Iris, Allegra, Kamilla and Cecile, who have formed Team Citizen, continue investigating a secret organisation called Black Hole. Iris meets with an anonymous source who says that Black Hole is connected with McCulloch Technologies, but it’s CEO Joseph Carver denies these claims. Iris ignores Cecile's legal advice and decides to write her own story on Black Hole, prompting the latter organisation to hire metahuman Dr. Kimiyo Hoshi / Doctor Light to kill Iris. Meanwhile, Diggle arrives in Central City to give Barry his custom made mask he gave to Oliver from the first time they met. Barry notices a trace of Mirakuru serum on the mask, believing it contains a warning message left behind by Oliver for a new threat. The two investigate on Lian Yu only to discover there aren't any Mirakuru serums on the island. Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Iris' team set up a trap for Dr. Hoshi, while Iris again confronts Carver and blackmails him on being involved with Black Hole, prompting Carver to call of the hit. Carver insinuates to Iris that his missing wife Eva McCulloch is connected to Black Hole. Later, Iris investigates McCulloch Technologies where she is pulled into a mirror. Still reeling from learning no other Earths were restored, Cisco decides to leave Team Flash after the Crisis made him feel guilty for taking the metahuman cure and leaves Nash behind with the team.

Season 6 of The CW drama The Flash is looking to be its biggest year yet, with new foes, new chapters and a massive crossover that takes one of the biggest DC stories to screen. At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the cast and showrunner of The Flash were present to preview the new season that will arrive in October. Team Flash meet Nora, Barry and Iris' daughter from the future. While Iris seems happy to see her, Barry is concerned that Nora could alter history by interacting with her parents younger selves. The Team encounter a new metahuman named Gridlock, who has the ability to harness kinetic energy. During the encounter, Barry suits up in a variety of his previous costumes. When Barry tries to send Nora home, Wally reveals to them that Nora's blood is saturated with negative tachyons, which react with the Speed Force preventing her from time travelling. Barry asks Nora what happens to him in the future, with Nora revealing he never returned after the crisis and she has lived her entire life with her mom. Gridlock causes the plane he is on to fall out of the sky, so Barry, Nora, Wally and Cisco go to stop it. Before they leave, Nora gives Barry his signature ring that contains a brand new suit. They phase the plane through buildings allowing it to land safely in the river. When Gridlock is being transported to prison, the transport vehicle is attacked and a masked individual enters the truck telling Gridlock that he plans to wipe out all metahumans before approaching him with a blade shaped like the Flash’s insignia.

Welcome to the first podcast I hosted. Today we talk a little about Iris' childhood upbringing. Although I've been with Iris' for about 5 years and worked with her for about 3.5 years, there are still things I don't know about her! Enjoy the very first!

Iris' mom experienced breast cancer. This impacted her brain and caused her personality to change. This loss had a profound impact on Iris. She learned to separate the illness from the person. Iris reminds anyone going through the same caregiver challenge that you're not alone, to get help (e.g. a friend, relative, health care professional, clergy, online) and to find camaraderie with other people. Iris Waichler has been a patient advocate and medical social worker for 40 years. She is an award winning author of 3 books. Her latest book, Role Reversal How to Take Care of Yourself and Your Aging Parents, has won 6 major book awards. It is a memoir about her father and blends her professional experience to offer a wealth of information for other caregivers. She has been a caregiver for her mother and father. She also has helped 2 friends to die with dignity. Consider this part 1 of our Finale discussion. Join us next week for a LIVE call in episode of Flash TV Talk! After the Enlightenment begins, Marlize joins Team Flash as Cecile goes into labor. Marlize uses Cecile's powers to send Barry into DeVoe's consciousness to find the good left in him. Barry finds Ralph alive in DeVoe's consciousness and together they find the "good" DeVoe dead. DeVoe attempts to keep them from reaching the nexus of his mind, as he follows Team Flash to a pocket dimension. In his consciousness, DeVoe multiplies himself to fight Barry and Ralph as he takes down Team Flash. Barry and Ralph make it to the nexus; Barry wakes up in the real world and Ralph reclaims his body just as DeVoe was going to kill Cecile. He reappears, though, as a hologram through his chair until Marlize destroys it. Barry, Cisco and Ralph shield civilians from the falling satellites and the mysterious girl helps Barry destroy the last one. Harry's brain resets but is mostly restored by Marlize; he decides to return to Earth-2 to be with Jesse. Team Flash celebrates DeVoe's defeat with Wally (who returned from the Legends) and Cecile's newborn daughter Jenna. The mysterious girl arrives to reveal herself as Barry and Iris' daughter from the future, Nora; she claims to have made "a big, big mistake".

Right before the particle accelerator explosion, Joey Monteleone was thrown into a tar pit and left for dead. Sealed away, he is freed two years later with the ability to turn his body into tar. He sets out to get revenge on those who attempted to kill him. Meanwhile, Dr. Wells creates a device to syphon Barry's speed energy and attaches it to his suit. He and Barry also successfully find a way to close the breaches of Earth-2. When Barry goes after Joey, the device works, and permanently steals a portion of Barry's speed, slowing him down. Wells gives the energy to Zoom, who demands the rest. While going after Joey a second time, Iris is injured when Barry is too slow to save her. Watching Barry wrestle with the guilt of Iris' injury, Wells confesses. Wells pleads his case, asking to be returned to Earth-2 and have Barry seal the breaches so Zoom cannot re-enter. After stopping Joey with an invention of Wells', Barry realizes that Wells was only trying to save his daughter, which the rest of them would have done. The team informs Wells that he will return to Earth-2, but that Barry and Cisco will be going with him to save his daughter.

And everything else in the episode is awesome! From Barry and Patty chemistry to dickish scientist being a dick, to J. Jackson becoming the answer to Stein's terrible Firestorm matrix problems!  Oh, and can I just say HELL YES King Shark!?  Not the best episode of 'The Flash', but we got King Shark being taken down by Harrison Wells... and Harrison Wells being spotted by Dr. Tina McGee! For part one of this week's podcast, we're featuring a conversation with Albert Maysles from last year's New York Film Festival. The Q&A took place after a screening of his latest film, IRIS, which is now in theaters. The legendary director passed away this past March, and his presence will be sorely missed, but he will live on through his hugely influential films. Albert Maysles was an important member of our extended Film Society family. "Grey Gardens" premiered at the 13th New York Film Festival in 1975 and IRIS had its world premiere here at the 52nd NYFF last year. The film follows Iris Apfel, the quick-witted, flamboyantly dressed 93-year-old style maven who has had an outsized presence on the New York fashion scene for decades. More than a fashion film, the documentary is a story about creativity and how, even in Iris' dotage, a soaring free spirit continues to inspire. Iris Bolling, author of The Pendleton Rule, was born in Richmond, Virginia, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management. She is currently a Workforce Development Trainer with the Commonwealth of Virginia, providing management training and professional development consultation for the state workforce. In an effort to combine the areas in her life she enjoys the most, education, politics and romance, she penned her first manuscript, Once You’ve Touched the Heart, which was release in March 2008.  Since that time she has released books 2-5 of what has become The Heart Series which includes, The Heart of Him, Look Into My Heart, A Heart Divided, A Lost Heart and her latest release, The Heart.  In May of 2011, Iris introduced her new novel, Night of Seduction/Heaven’s Gate. Her novel, Once You’ve Touched the Heart was voted the Readers Choice Award with Shades of Romance Magazine for, Romance Book of the Year. Iris was voted Romance Author of the Year and Author of the Year. Her novel A Lost Heart was nominated Romantic Suspense Novel of the Year, at the 2011 Romance Slam Jam. In 2012, she has been nominated at Author of the Year. Her latest novel The Heart has also been nominated for several awards. Her passions are reading (especially romance novels), writing, sports and politics.  An active proponent of state and federal educational issues, she continues to encourage young adults to pursue their education.  She also volunteers with her local registrar’s office, promoting voter registration in the African-American community. Dabei arbeitet man an einer Neuauflage der ehemaligen RTL-Showreihe „Der große ...-Test“. Welche Ausgaben geplant sind, verraten die beiden Medien-KüHe. Außerdem gibt es Neues vom Schwulensender TIMM: Nachdem die Betreiberfirma, die Deutsche Fernsehwerke GmbH, vor wenigen Wochen Insolvenz anmelden musste (wir berichteten in Folge 27), sucht man beim Berliner Spartensender nun nach Optionen zur Rettung. Dabei erwägt man offensichtlich den Gang ins Pay-TV [11:30], wie eine aktuelle Zuschauer- und User-Umfrage zeigt. Ganz knapp an der fragwürdigen Auszeichnung „KuH der Woche“ vorbei geschlittert ist „Big Brother“-Bewohner Carlos [21:45]. Er teilte am Montag in der RTL2-Liveshow heftig gegen Mitbewohnerin Iris aus und beschimpfte nicht nur sie und die Zuschauer aufs Übelste, sondern auch Iris' offenbar behindertes Kind. Stattdessen können wir unsere Ehrung einem wesentlich sympathischeren TV-Moment der vergangenen Woche überreichen. Und zwar dem wohl dreistesten Telefonjoker [31:00], seit es Quizsendungen gibt... Vor der Aufzeichnung zu Folge 29 schaffte es Herr Hammes, sich ins Kino zu schleppen und sah sich den aktuellen Streifen „Sherlock Holmes“ [43:30] an. Seine Kritik (die heute zugegebenermaßen nicht ganz so schlecht ausfallen wird, wie vor wenigen Wochen bei „Avatar“) folgt in der Kategorie Film. Zugleich muss sich Herr Körber nun endlich geschlagen geben: Eine Hörerspende [54:00] mit der eindeutigen Aufforderung „So Herr Körber, nun ist aber ‚Star Wars' fällig!“ wird ihm grenzenloses Sci-Fi-Vergnügen auf die Mattscheibe bringen.
