In this episode, Renee Jones shares her weight loss journey and techniques she found to deal with emotional eating. Renee shares her background of yo-yo dieting and her eventual discovery of emotional eating as the root cause of her struggles. She explains how she found what works for her body through a specific software program and emphasizes the importance of an individualized approach to weight loss. She provides practical tips for overcoming emotional eating and maintaining weight loss, including the HANG acronym for addressing emotional hunger. She also shares the role of coaching in helping others resolve emotional issues and live authentically. Connect with Renee at PackYourOwnBag.com. Takeaways Emotional eating is eating for any reason other than hunger, and it often involves using food as a way to soothe or cope with emotions. Finding what works for your body is crucial for successful weight loss and maintenance. It requires self-reflection, experimentation, and paying attention to how different foods and eating patterns make you feel. Practical tips for weight loss include facing your emotions instead of using food as a coping mechanism, creating rules and boundaries around food and finding alternate activities or behaviors to replace emotional eating. Coaching can be a powerful tool for weight loss and personal growth, helping people resolve emotional issues and live more authentically. Today I am joined by Renee Jones and we are going to talk about something that's a very popular topic at the beginning of the year and that is weight loss. Renee has had a very interesting background as you heard in her bio, but now I'm gonna let her share in your own words, Renee. How did you get into this work and kind of, but maybe start with the background. I think you said for 40 years, you were kind of just like yo-yoing around. So I'm really curious to hear about your backstory, like what sort of things you tried, what were your challenges. So I'll let you take it away with your introduction to your history there. Renee Jones (00:37.652)Okay, well, thanks for having me for a start. But my first diet was when I was 10, and I know that sounds awful, but my mother thought, you're a bit young, but if we start now, maybe you'll learn how to do this. And the problem was, I didn't know what I was doing. She'd been heavy all her life, so she didn't know what she was doing. Cheryl McColgan (00:49.902)I'm sorry. Renee Jones (01:02.192)And we sort of would start and stop and then we'd say, oh, do you want to do the diet again? Yeah, okay. And we'd start over again. And it would go for a while until we either got fed up or went somewhere, you know, either visiting family or holiday or something like that. And it, you know, it just went on. I didn't learn how to first believe that I could keep the weight off that I lost. but also what was really good for my body. It was usually sort of a whatever the diet of the day was. So I think we tried them all, honestly. I think there are two diets I have not tried. And one of them was that HCG thing. And the other is the Whole30. Cheryl McColgan (01:50.499)Mm-hmm. Renee Jones (01:55.636)Because I've done something close enough to that. I thought, got the idea. I'm good. But that just went on. Cheryl McColgan (01:55.992)Yes. Cheryl McColgan (02:00.114)Right. So out of those ones, and so out of those ones that you tried, you never really found, I mean,

Welcome to Season 2, Episode 3 of Restore the Core. This week's topic is titled UNSHAKEN. This episode is heavily centered around spirituality. I as well as my guest feature on this episode are Christians. Throughout this episode, many of our life experiences will revolve around and connect back to our spirituality. If you do not believe in God, I still encourage you to listen. This episode applies to everyone regardless of their belief system. This is a judgement free zone. Everyone is always welcome here. In a world where so much is happening, so much adversity, so many trials, we must remain unshaken and stand firm on what and who we believe to in. How do you remain unshaken? What is your calm in the midst of the storm? Conflict will always arise, but we must be confident in the fact that conflict serves a purpose and often times it's just a distraction to throw us off our game. Other times, conflicts arise to test us and make us stronger. Remember to recognize it as that and do not let the enemy win! When it comes to diets, pills, and other fads - how can we truly keep the weight off?  Special guest Renee Jones has figured this out and beyond age 50.  In this podcast episode we get into the mindsets concerning weight loss and how to "face our stuff, so we no longer need to stuff our face."  Renee spent 40 years on the diet Yo-Yo, and in 2012, she finally smashed it by overcoming emotional eating, and she's maintained her healthy weight since then. Her mission is to help others who struggle with their weight, who look to food for stress relief and to soothe themselves. No diet, exercise routine, or magic diet potion can counter the effects when we've stuffed down our feelings and followed it with a food chaser.  We have to heal our hearts. When we face our stuff, we no longer need to stuff our faces. With a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and a Clinical Residency, Renee utilizes traditional and contemporary models as well as relaxation and horse-assisted methods to help her clients free themselves by addressing emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.  In 2011, she opened an international private practice in counseling serving clients and colleagues in the U. S., United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, India, Vietnam, South Africa, Romania, Australia, and New Zealand. "I can put whatever I want in my mouth, I get to control that. So we work on, ‘okay, is this the outcome you want?" "One of my favourite questions that helps me as well as them is: is that who you want to be?" "My goal is always to help them heal their heart, so they can do it on their own." "When I was about 10 years old, I looked around at all the other little girls, and I was a redhead. So I was already different to everyone else. And I was also chunky. And all the other blonde and brunette girls were thin. And I thought I don't want to be chunky." "This is what my grandmother told me back in the 70s, to just watch your sugars and starches and you'll be fine." "I haven't been depressed and I have a brighter outlook. This is weird. I don't understand it. But I've basically stayed keto since then. I'll have an occasional time when I have a few more carbs here and there. But I always come back to keto because it makes me feel so good." "Anytime we get an opportunity to look at it differently, we have an opportunity to grow." "Emotional baggage is a thing. If you don't want it to control you, you've got to deal with it." "We collect all of this baggage. And the more we nurse that baggage, the more we tell those stories, the more they stay in our lives. And what's important is to unpack the stuff that we've carried with us for decades." "Find the things that drive you to stress - stop and listen to the stories"

Some people can hold themselves accountable, but some can’t. Why can we not pay as much attention to losing weight as we do in other important areas in our life? How can we go further and faster without just not ourselves doing that? Renee Jones spent 40 years on that Diet Yo-Yo, and in 2012, she finally smashed it by overcoming emotional eating and has maintained her healthy weight since then.   Her mission is to help others who struggle with their weight, who look to food for stress relief and to soothe themselves. No diet, exercise routine, or magic diet potion can counter the effects when we’ve stuffed down our feelings and followed it with a food chaser. We have to heal our hearts. When we face our stuff, we no longer need to stuff our faces. With a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and a Clinical Residency, she utilizes traditional and contemporary models as well as relaxation and horse-assisted methods to help her clients free themselves by addressing emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. In 2011, she opened an international private practice in counseling, serving clients and colleagues in the U. S., United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, India, Vietnam, South Africa, Romania, Australia, and New Zealand. In this episode, Renee shares how she had all this emotional baggage she carried with her, having this belief, and this feeling of not being acceptable, being too much, or not good enough. How she has not believed in herself for so long, thinking she’s never attractive and skinny enough to attract anyone, was such an eye-opener for her the moment she knew she needed to change. Find out how travel and life experiences help you to look beyond yourself and your focus on food.  She actually found an acronym for questions she needed to ask herself to get past her food dilemma, and this has worked for her. Find out about it; it might help you, too. When you feel like your cravings win over you, she has the best solution to that without depriving yourself but still having an awareness of trusting your food decision. Often, we look for solutions that give us fast results, but when it comes to emotional mastery why should we give it more time and practice it needs just like other areas of our life? The memory we attach to food gives an insight into our focus on it. Learn what it is, recognize it, understand it and deal with it. There has to be healing in every transformation before the total turnaround, and it’s important to allow yourself to go through it to move ahead. There is no one-solution-fits-all; that’s why you need to find out what works for you. Staying on your track to reach your goal is not easy; that’s why Renee suggests that if you can’t hold yourself accountable, find someone else to do that for you. Hence, finding a community that understands your journey and has your back every step of the way is a big help. “I had to face my stuff. So I would no longer need to stuff my face for comfort.”  - Renee Jones What you will learn from this episode: 02:53 - The emotional baggage she had to deal with growing up 04:45 - If she had believed more in herself 06:06 - What helped her get out of the wrong mentality about herself 12:25 - The crucial questions you need to ask yourself to overcome your obsession over food 14:14 - Why go get it 14:58 - What she says to clients who are having cravings 19:46 - Give yourself some grace to learn 23:37 - Why don’t we give emotional mastery the same time and practice as we do other things in life? 26:48 - The need to find what works for your body 33:30 - What memory do you attach your food with 35:10 - Recognizing helps and give it the attention it needs 37:53 - Wounds have to heal before you are ready to move forward 39:51 - Figure out your goal and stay on your path towards it - Click here for your Compass Exercise: http://packyourownbag.com/friends/ Connect with Renee Jones: packyourownbag.com Connect With Leslie Thornton: WeighLossAlbany.com E: Leslie@LeslieMThornton.com Facebook Twitter LinkedIn

We took you back in time and set the scene of ALL things going on in Buffalo on this date in 1948. Let us tell you, it was quite a journey! Do you struggle with emotional eating or eating when you aren't hungry? Renee struggled with emotional eating and yo-yo eating for 40 years before she discovered the key to her sustainable weight loss. This week's episode has lots of little pearls of wisdom that may benefit your eating habits.  With a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling and a Clinical Residency in Pastoral Care, Renee utilizes traditional and contemporary models as well as relaxation and horse-assisted methods. She has worked as a chaplain and counselor in long-term acute care hospitals and hospice for more than a decade serving patients, families, and staff. In 2011, she opened an international private practice in counseling serving clients and colleagues in the U. S., United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, India, South Africa, Romania, Australia, and New Zealand. What makes her approach distinctive is that she is trained as a chaplain with a Master’s degree in counseling, and this expertise enables her to help her clients free themselves emotionally by addressing their spiritual, physical, and emotional needs. The result is that her clients get the body they want, find true comfort without comfort food, and embrace the beautiful person they are from inside out. Steve Weingart and Renee Jones are a match made in music. High school sweethearts, they spent their early years growing together with music being their mutual passion. Eventually they made the move to Los Angeles, with Steve focusing on music as his profession. Renee didn’t initially pursue music as her career path, but it was Steve’s invitation for her to perform on his solo album Dark Blue Dream that turned her focus to music as a profession, which she continues to pursue to this day. Steve and Renee have recently collaborated on a brand new album project titled “Oasis” - a project spawned by Steve’s endorsement by Casio and features him performing on the new Casio GP500 Grand Hybrid, while Renee lends her talents on vocals and bass. Dr. John Huber is Host of Mainstream Mental Health RadioStories covered today includ: Why Millennials Are Struggling With Mental Health At WorkAmericans do not take mental health seriously enough. According to the NIMH, as many as 45% of mental health cases go untreated in this country, at a total potential cost of $147 billion per year. These statistics are devastating and also not widely known — but they’re not terribly controversial. What is controversial — or at least uncomfortable — is the idea that millennials suffer from more mental health issues than any previous generation. This challenges some of the common assertions that millennials are entitled, lazy and lack a work ethic or respect for The Dollar. What Chelsea Manning teaches us about the U.S. military's mental health crisisOutside the newly christened Stewart Lee Udall Federal building in Washington, D.C., the air was crisp, but inside, President Barack Obama was glowing. Surrounded by top staff and military leaders, the president signed into law a bill that would eventually repeal the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy (DADT), which had for 18 years banned gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military. Our guest today is Renee Jones author of the new book “What’s Really Eating You?
