He rode freight trains across America, lived with nomadic reindeer herders in Siberia, and became a household name after winning Alone in the Arctic. But Jordan Jonas is more than a survivalist—he's a philosopher forged by hardship. In this episode, Travis Bader sits down with Jordan for a raw and real conversation on solitude, family, faith, failure, and the uncomfortable truths we face when stripped of distraction. They explore the mental battles of being truly alone, the lessons from Siberian trappers and prison-hardened mentors, and the generational strength passed down through adversity. Whether you're a hunter, a parent, a spiritual seeker, or someone grappling with modern life's noise—this episode will stay with you.

Jordan grew up in the Idaho country, surrounded by the beautiful lakes of that vast state. Being surrounded by nature, he grew up spending his formative years in nature. As a young adult he came of age as he spent a year riding freight trains across the US - spending countless days and nights navigating both rural and urban environments. Soon after he left for Russia where he would spend the better part of the next ten years living in Siberia in villages, with fur trappers, and ultimately with traditional nomadic reindeer herders. Amongst these people Jordan would learn the art of survival - not as taught in classes, but as lived day in and day out by people whose existence depends on those skills. The skills acquired over his life were proven effective and reliable when Jordan won season 6 of History Channel's Alone show, spending 77 days in the Arctic while also successfully hunting a bull moose, a wolverine, dozens of rabbits, squirrels, grouse and numerous fish. Jordan learned to hunt, trap, fish, survive, and even thrive in good times and bad. He learned to deal with adversity and value his family and friends. He learned that experience is valuable, but that the development of character and love are the most important aspects of life. He values where he came from, both his Assyrian and Danish heritage, and strives to be someone worthy of the incredible sacrifices those before him made to give him a good life. He hopes to do the same for his children. He is very blessed and thankful to have an opportunity to live, and live life to its fullest.

This week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your host Downrigger Dale talks to the Season 6 winner of the History Channel's popular TV reality series, “Alone”. You must hear Jordan Jonas's story of how he not only survived but won the incredible challenge. You will hear how Jordan fought off starvation, loneliness, wild animals, and the brutal weather conditions of Canada's Northwest Territories to claim his spot in outdoor survival history. How did he do it? Well, the amazing life he lived prior to being selected to compete against 9 other incredible individuals on the History Channel's extremely popular reality series, for sure had something to do with it. Spoiler alert! He left home as a teenager and jumped from railcar to railcar to travel the country! Thus, Jordan likely became one of the only known teenage hobos in America. So yeah, that might have helped prepare him for that unbelievable challenge. Oh, but he was just getting warmed up! After spending his teen years as a hobo riding the rails all alone, he went to Russia to help build an orphanage! That led him to take things to an extreme again and head deep into the Siberian wilderness and believe it or not, it just gets crazier from there!! One of the stories Jordan tells Rigger is about the fact that while competing in the Alone series he was able to kill a rabbit to eat on his first day out in the arctic wilderness. He talks about how rabbits were all over the place. Rigger replied, “Oh so you had a pretty reliable food source then.” Jordan explains that you must have fat to survive in those conditions and arctic rabbits barely have any. So, though he could eat lots of rabbits they in no way could stop him from starving to death. There is even a term for it, rabbit starvation! So, where did Jordan find that all important source of fat? You will have to listen to this week's Montana Outdoor podcast to find out and hopefully you won't have a weak stomach when you do listen. What does Jordan do now? He lives in Darby Montana, but you will have to listen to find out the rest. The answer to that question is really cool and when you listen you can even learn how you can go hunt with and learn survival techniques from Jordan! After you listen, if you want to find out more about Jordan Jonas click here. This week we talk rodeo, ranch life, and the outdoors with PRCA Pro Rodeo Saddle Bronc current World Leader Sage Newman. Hear where you'll find him when not in the arena. Back to school, we share why not to put the fishing poles away plus we tackle news. AND before you head out on that dream backcountry hunting trip - you need to hear this story and the tips learned from experience. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 148 Details Labor Day Weekend!! For some, it rings the end of Summer…One last family campout or lake weekend before winterizing everything if you live here in a true four seasons climate. For others, especially those of us into archery, it rings in the beginning of that hunting season as almost across the country as a whole; whether it be deer to the western rugged states with elk, the scouting has truly kicked off, packs are loaded and hikes to stands or blinds is on… AND FOR THOSE we wish you a SUCCESSFUL but most importantly Memorable Season! SPOTLIGHT Pack Horses Miraculously Survive 80-Foot Fall from Wilderness Trail “Alone” alumni Cade Cole and Jordan Jonas had a seriously close call when three of their packhorses tumbled off the trail and into the steep timber According to Outdoor Life, Seasoned outdoorsmen, Cade Cole & Jordan Jonas with horse-packing experience were on their way to meet a group of clients for a survival course at the time of the accident. (Jonas, who won Season 6 of “Alone,” hosts survival and backcountry skills courses.) The horses were loaded down with cookware, camping gear, and other equipment. The area they were riding to was so remote, that the clients were flown in on a bush plane while the guides made the 32-mile trek in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness on the Montana-Idaho border. And like many of us with horses, they are like members of one's family. Luckily at the time of the horses' horrific fall, neither rider was atop their mounts. One of the horses acted up crossing a steep area, with a washout on a trail causing all three horses tied to one another to tumble. The men were able to with the use of rope lines climb down to the horses and quickly using their survival skills make ties and pulleys to secure two of the horses caught, rolling the horses back onto their feet to slide down to get their footing. Miraculously none of the horses were hurt. But this is a GREAT reminder for all who have dreamt of exploring the backcountry. The importance of staying calm in a stressful situation, not just for one's own safety but to keep the animals calm as well. Think clearly. We are happy this pair and their mounts survived however watching the video is extreme. If you go to thebendshow.com; you'll see some of the footage that Jordan Jonas caught on camera of the horses falling, beware it is graphic. And again, do your diligence and be prepared beyond for all unknowns when heading out this fall into the backcountry on foot or using pack horses and mules. BEC shares tips for those who have never attempted hunting or exploring the backcountry, but dreamt of doing so on horseback. The guidance and thoughts shared are very smart and basic. A must-listen! MEET SAGE NEWMAN While BEC was on one of her recent “Catch BEC If You Can” ( #catchBECifyoucan ) adventures, her being a PRCA Pro Rodeo Music Director takes her to some great rodeos which leads to meeting amazing individuals paving the way in the rodeo world. This trip was no different. Sage Newman, Current PRCA World Saddle Bronc Leader on the road to making his 3rd Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) appearance, took time to visit with BEC (aka Rebecca Wanner). We learn there is more to this cowboy than riding broncs and making 8 second rides that score big. Sage Newman hails from Melstone, Montana where he grew up on his family's ranch. When not chasing the next rodeo, this man is found back on the ranch and enjoying the outdoors. He is a humble, genuine man who always has a smile. BEC caught up with Sage after another outstanding performance and in chatting learned what he does when not rodeoing or ranching. Sage Newman is like us, an outdoorsman enjoying the outdoors. Taking advantage of where the road leads such as getting to fish while saddle bronc riding in Alaska to looking forward to archery season now back in Montana. Hunting and fishing, and enjoying the backcountry with family and friends keeps Sage Newman revived and focused for when it's time ‘To Ride.' A great interview that leaves one proud and happy to know there are people like us doing great things, setting examples for the younger generation. He graciously took time to hang too with BEC's nephew Hank Wanner and made sure all of his fellow rodeo pals, fellow PRCA saddle bronc riders signed Hank's cowboy hat as well as shook his hand. Thank you Sage Newman for what you are doing by setting a good example, and being a role model. We here at The Bend Show will definitely be cheering loud for you wherever the road may lead and we will be cheering EXTRA LOUD as you make your way to Vegas for the 2023 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (The NFR!)! YOUTH MAJOR LEAGUE FISHING Did you know that the MLF aka Major League Fishing which includes the Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) brand, offers a league just for high school youth? Being a part of this series can set up those interested in becoming a pro or semi-pro or just that fan of fishing all together with skills that will make them Life Long Anglers. And there are prizes of course to boot. BEC is bringing this up as it is growing, especially in the Bass fishing world for colleges and universities to offer scholarships to continue on at a collegiate level. Currently, there are roughly 610 college bass fishing teams within the United States. Examples: Auburn University, Louisiana State University in Shreveport, University of Tennesee, University of Nebraska, Clemson, University of Missouri & Missouri State University, University of Wisconsin, etc Some great food for thought. If your local school does not offer a high school fishing program, consider checking into organizations such as the MLF as an example. There are major tournaments throughout the year, ways to earn points and in hopes of landing oneself on the national level come spring/summer of 2024 where youth are competing for scholarships, boats, gear, and more. Imagine yourself out in nature — away from all the noise and the distractions of our lives. You can smell the rich scents of the forest, you can hear birds singing, the wind rustling the leaves, insects buzzing. It can feel calming, and invigorating. Now, imagine yourself alone in the forest for days, and weeks, looking for shelter from the elements and food to eat. That probably sounds more unsettling or scary than calming, right? On this episode, we explore how our experiences in nature affect us — and change us. We hear from wilderness guide and “Alone” winner Jordan Jonas, about his stint in the Canadian wilderness and his legendary battle with a wolverine. We discuss the practice of forest bathing as a medical treatment, and science journalist Ed Yong explores how other animals experience the world around them. Also heard on this week’s episode: When he was in his 20s, survivalist and wilderness guide Jordan Jonas spent a lot of time in the tundra in Siberia. Living there uniquely equipped him to survive all by himself near the Arctic, which is where he was dropped off as a competitor on the History Channel reality TV show “Alone, Season Six.” Jordan outlasted his competitors to win the challenge. On some level, we tend to want to experience nature on our own terms. Swim in the ocean, but not be tossed around by huge waves. Climb a mountain, but not get caught in a storm. Look at animals – but not have them attack us. And when we realize that nature doesn't play by our rules, it can be deeply unsettling. Reporter Liz Tung brings us this story of an entomologist who had an encounter in nature that shook him to his core – and set him on a path to learn more about evolution. Ed Yong's new book, “An Immense World” immerses readers into the experiences of other animals, and how they sense what's around them. Yong explores how our different “windows” to the world offer very different vantage points. Tara Brown discovered “forest bathing” during a long stay in Japan. She felt lonely, isolated, and depressed. Then, she lived like a Japanese mountain monk for a week — and discovered the healing powers of being in nature. Nichole Currie reports on Brown’s journey into studying “forest bathing” as medicine.
"Jordan Jonas grew up on a farm in Idaho and from there, traveled the world, which he recalls through his various injuries. Jordan's first significant memory comes from after a summer of riding freight trains across the country when he critically injured his knee. Soon after, he set off for Siberia where he would eventually learn to fur trap and survive in one of the most remote places on earth. While in these harsh conditions he spent a month and a half alone in the wilderness where he survived a fall through the ice into a frozen river – alone and miles from a cabin. After that learning experience, he began living with nomadic Evenki reindeer herders deep in the taiga. Of course, those years were not without incident either, including chopping a tendon in his good knee that left him immobilized for three days in a tipi, pulling himself out of a mud bog that enveloped him to his shoulders, having his ribs broken by a reindeer, and nearly dying after accidentally ingesting a mouthful of gasoline." --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/whothewyldthingsare/support

Jordan Jonas, winner of season 6 of The History Channel's Alone, was the first contestant ever to take a big game animal while filming, a bull moose he harvested with a longbow. The Hundreds of pounds of meat sustained Jordan physically to outlast his competition, but it was his faith that prepared him for the experience and played a huge role is his success, surviving 77 days in the Arctic wilderness, on his own, but by faith, never truly alone. My guest this week is Jordan Jonas, winner of season 6: Alone (History channel). Jordan grew up in the Idaho country, surrounded by the beautiful lakes of that vast state. Being surrounded by nature, he grew up spending his formative years in nature. As a young adult, he came of age as he spent a year riding freight trains across the US - spending countless days and nights navigating both rural and urban environments. Soon after he left for Russia where he would spend the better part of the next ten years living in Siberia in villages, with fur trappers, and ultimately with traditional nomadic reindeer herders. Amongst these people, Jordan would learn the art of survival - not as taught in classes, but as lived day in and day out by people whose existence depends on those skills. The skills acquired over his life were proven effective and reliable when Jordan won season 6 of History Channel's Alone show, spending 77 days in the Arctic while also successfully hunting a bull moose, a wolverine, dozens of rabbits, squirrels, grouse, and numerous fish. Jordan learned to hunt, trap, fish, survive, and even thrive in good times and bad. He learned to deal with adversity and value his family and friends. He learned that experience is valuable, but that the development of character and love are the most important aspects of life. He values where he came from, both his Assyrian and Danish heritage and strives to be someone worthy of the incredible sacrifices those before him made to give him a good life. He hopes to do the same for his children. He is very blessed and thankful to have an opportunity to live life to its fullest. What you will learn: How to develop a mindset that can help you overcome adversity How to cope with being 'Alone' How to be proactive when facing trials What gratitude can do for you during suffering How to thrive in adverse environments How to set your expectations at the right level (a pessimistic optimism) Connect w/Jordan: -https://www.instagram.com/hobojordo/?hl=en (Instagram) -https://www.facebook.com/hobojordo (FB) -https://www.jordanjonas.com/ (Website) Let's connect: -https://www.linkedin.com/in/alex-molden-9693431b/ (LinkedIn) -https://www.instagram.com/alexmolden/ (IG) -https://www.facebook.com/alex.molden1/ (Facebook) -https://open.acast.com/shows/5e759e3195fa07a414c9afe8/episodes/www.alexmoldenspeaks.com (website) https://thehaacademy.com/get-full-access (-High Achievers Academy) Don't forget to Subscribe, Rate & Review (5 stars are dope)! Jordan Jonas spent 77 days living alone in the Canadian wilderness to become the winner for the sixth season of the History Channel's reality television show “Alone.”
Jordan Jonas was a cast member of the History Channel Show, Alone. The show sent a group of survivalists to the Arctic to compete for $500,000 in a last man (or woman) standing competition. Jordan outlasted everyone by making it 77 days. He killed a Moose with a bow on the show as well as catching many fish. He battled wolverines and the cold to make it to the end. Jordan and I discuss his experience as a Reindeer herder, hopping trains and traveling the country and spending quite a bit of time in Russia. All of these experiences helped him to acquire the skills to win Season 6 of Alone. Check Jordan out on social: @hobojordan Do a survival school with Jordan; "My goal is to impart the necessary skillset, knowledge and confidence to give anyone that goes through the course the best possible chance of thriving in the wilderness, should the need or desire arise."
