Are you interested in working with me 1 on 1? Click this link to fill out our Retirement Readiness QuestionnaireOr, visit my websiteThere is a lot of focus in the financial advice industry related to the “Accumulation Phase.” In the beginning, you're trying to save as much as possible as you start your careers. Then you gain some traction and start building up a nice nest egg. As your income increases, maybe you start to think about the tax impact of your savings. And finally, you really start to focus in on how much you “need” or “want” before you stop the accumulation phase. The problem is that it continues to be a moving target based on your lifestyle changes, inflation, the markets, or ultimately, the unknown about how long you might live! But when is enough “enough?” It's easy to have the blinders on and just focus on building up as large of a nest egg as possible. As a result, many pre-retirees and retirees fail to think through the distribution phase…or in other words, the decumulation phase. And many of the folks we serve are surprised to find out they have a SURPLUS in retirement. Meaning, it's going to be hard for them to spend all their nest egg during their lifetime (not a bad problem to have). In today's Whiteboard Retirement Plan breakdown, we'll look at Bruce and Jennifer Lee, who are 62/61 and looking to retire in January of 2026…We'll show you WHY they have a surplus and ultimately discuss some strategies to help them optimize for today, as well as maximize their legacy to their 2 adult children.I hope you enjoy it.-Kevin Connect with me here:YouTubeJoin My Company NewsletterFacebookLinkedInInstagramThis is for general education purposes only and should not be considered as tax, legal or investment advice.
Send us a textYour team is constantly reading you—analyzing every movement, stance, and gesture you make as a leader. Even when you're silent, your body is having a conversation with everyone around you. What exactly is it saying?Nine-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Jane Hanson pulls back the curtain on leadership's most under-appreciated tool: body language. With insights developed through decades of television broadcasting and leadership coaching, Hanson reveals the powerful truth that humans communicated through body language for millions of years before spoken words existed—and this primal language remains our most trusted form of communication today. Throughout the conversation, Hanson shares practical wisdom for emerging leaders navigating the complex world of nonverbal communication. She explains why crossing your arms might undermine your credibility regardless of your intentions, how claiming your physical space earns respect in new environments, and why the pause may be your most powerful (and underutilized) leadership tool. When your words and body language don't align, people instinctively trust what they see over what they hear.Perhaps most compelling is Hanson's perspective on vulnerability and compassion in leadership. Rather than viewing these qualities as weaknesses, she demonstrates how authentic physical presence—leading with an open posture and genuine engagement—signals both kindness and strength. "I don't think you can be compassionate and not be strong," Hanson notes, challenging traditional notions of authoritative leadership. What is your body language revealing about your leadership style right now? Listen, reflect, and transform your silent communication to lead with greater authenticity and impact.Jane's Episode Links:1. Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/janehansonofficial/2. Send us a textWhat separates good leaders from exceptional ones? The answer might be simpler—and harder—than we think. In this illuminating conversation with leadership expert Kevin Eikenberry, Chief Potential Officer of the Kevin Eikenberry Group and host of the Remarkable Leadership Podcast, we dig into the critical skill of flexibility that so many leaders understand conceptually but struggle to practice.Kevin reveals why most new leaders get trapped in rigid thinking patterns from the start. Promoted for technical expertise rather than leadership ability, they feel compelled to have immediate answers—creating a pattern of quick decisions based on limited perspective. This pattern becomes particularly problematic in today's complex world where old solutions rarely fit new problems.Using the powerful metaphor of a mature tree, Kevin reframes the relationship between consistency and flexibility. Much like a tree with strong roots yet flexible branches, effective leaders remain consistent in their values and purpose while adapting their methods to changing circumstances. "We should be consistent in our what and why and flexible in our how," he explains, cutting through the false choice between being principled or adaptable. Kevin's Episode Links:1. Send us a textIn the fast-paced world of leadership, we often hear the saying, "Communication is key." When we talk about communication skills for leaders, we often focus on articulation, persuasion, and presentation. Yet the foundation of truly effective leadership communication lies in the ability to listen—not just hear but actively engage with what's being said. In this episode, we explore the profound difference between passive hearing and active listening, breaking down exactly what makes listening an active rather than passive process.Support the showTrench Leadership: A Podcast From the Front is humbled to have been named #7 in the Top 20 for Best Canadian Leadership-themed podcasts for 2025. Send us a textWayne Turmel, a fellow Canadian and podcast host, an author, and consultant for the Kevin Eikenberry Group, joins Trench Leadership to share hard-earned wisdom about creating high-performing teams across distances in our transformed work landscape. As a remote work pioneer, Wayne offers a refreshingly pragmatic perspective that cuts through the noise surrounding return-to-office debates. The conversation explores Wayne's 3-O Model of Leadership, which balances Outcomes, Others, and Ourselves. This framework helps leaders navigate the complexities of managing remote teams while avoiding burnout. For leaders navigating hybrid work arrangements, Wayne's advice is refreshingly straightforward: focus on the work that needs doing rather than where it happens. By approaching team design with intentionality and listening to employee needs, leaders can create more effective, engaged teams regardless of physical location. Send us a textFor Episode 105, we're exploring the essential concept of Character Leadership. Character forms the bedrock of truly meaningful leadership. Beyond skill or charisma lies something more fundamental—the integrity, authenticity, and ethical principles that define who we are as leaders. This fundamental truth drives organizational culture, team performance, and long-term success.Trust serves as the invisible currency exchanged between leaders and their teams. Yet character leadership extends beyond mere honesty—it demands authenticity. Leaders who present their genuine selves, acknowledging both strengths and vulnerabilities, create psychological safety that enables team members to bring their whole selves to work. Are you ready to strengthen your character leadership? Leadership without passion limits the depth of your vision—but leadership without character limits everything else.Support the showTrench Leadership: A Podcast From the Front is humbled to have been named #7 in the Top 20 for Best Canadian Leadership-themed podcasts for 2025. From boardroom presentations to team meetings, public speaking is an unavoidable reality of leadership—yet it's often the skill we're least prepared for when stepping into leadership roles. The question becomes, "How can leaders prepare to step behind the podium and truly connecting with their audience?"In this episode, Matt Drinkhahn, high-performance coach and host of The Eternal Optimist podcast, will explore the fundamental shift that turns average speakers into exceptional ones. Matt reveals his journey from focusing on himself (his appearance, his memorized script, his performance) to genuinely serving his audience - pivotally reorienting everything about his speaking effectiveness.Drawing from his experience delivering over 175 speeches to audiences of up to 2,000 people, Matt shares practical frameworks for speech construction, including the "spider web" approach that liberates you from memorizing every word while maintaining focus on your central message. You'll hear candid stories about his biggest speaking disasters—from splitting his pants onstage to completely freezing mid-presentation—and how these moments became invaluable learning opportunities rather than career-ending catastrophes. This episode offers actionable strategies for preparation, delivery, and recovery when things inevitably go sideways. Learn how to read a room, pivot when necessary, leverage modern tools like AI for preparation, and collect meaningful feedback to continuously improve. Happy New Year! Let's celebrate with one of the greatest live episode experiences we have had, a HOT ONES-style panel we did at CALIFORNIA BALBOA CLASSIC in 2024. We've got special guests JENNIFER LEE, ANDREA GORDON, and MATT RICHEY, joining your hosts Chisomo and Bobby, all eating increasingly hotter wings while trying to tackle the hard questions. You get all the talk, all of the bravado, and none of the sound of us eating, hence why the episode is only 35 min. :) (Be on the lookout for the raw footage of the entire panel, on YouTube, coming soon!) Speaking of California! Currently LA Wildfires have destroyed the homes of several dancers, one of which, ROB MORELAND, was the sound tech who set up this five-mic-and-audience-recording panel with very short notice . Please consider donating to the RHYTHM RELIEF FUND! Please search for "Rhythm Relief Fund PSDF" on your favorite browser. We're sorry this episode came to you so late, but our volunteer sound engineer, who tackles these big multi-track projects, has a very busy life. We're just thankful they were able to help us out so well in the first place. However, they have to bow out. WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING for a sound engineer to help us tackle another multi-track project we recorded, please contact either Bobby or Chisomo on social medias if you're interested in helping! And of course, huge thanks to our patrons! (You can find us on patreon!)
