It's our first collaborative episode with another Locked On Podcast! We were joined by Sie Morley and Kyle Demetrius of Locked On Sharks to preview the game between the Habs and the Sharks tonight. We talked about how the Sharks have opted not to play defense, and how the Canadiens need to figure out a solution to their problems on the penalty kill. We discussed not discussing Erik Karlsson's contract. We all had theories on which players on each team were probably serial killers, and Kyle came up with a fun new nickname for Keith Kinkaid that had the other hosts crying with laughter. The Canadiens lost in Columbus, a game that could have basically put them in the playoffs but instead would up making a playoff berth a steep, uphill climb, if you consider Mount Kilimanjaro to be a hill. Arpon is back from the most significant road trip of the Canadiens' season and discusses contrasts and similarities in the consequences of that game in Columbus and how the Blue Jackets' response to the grand stage said a lot about both teams. Also: will Jonathan Drouin ever be someone who can drive the bus or will he always be a co-pilot? Was Claude Julien right to sit Jesperi Kotkaniemi and what does he do now that his replacement as third line centre, Jordan Weal, played so well? And finally, with Josh Brook, Ryan Poehling and Cayden Primeau signing their first pro contracts, does any of what's happening now even matter with the future of the team arriving? This is our 50th episode! The 'dreaded' western road trip has started after games in New York and Pittsburgh! The Habs took on the Kings in LA, and it marked the first game where Kotkaniemi was a scratch. This meant that we were able to get a glimpse of Jordan Weal, and what he brought to the game against LA. To say the least, it was quite a game! Veronica and Dave host the episode since Beth was unfortunately held up. However, we were lucky to be joined by none other then TSN690's own Dan Robertson! He shared his times and experiences as a broadcaster, and his thoughts on the Habs with us! The hockey team the Flyers have six games left. They’ve got points in their last five. It’s an airing of grievances episode of BSH Radio as the gang prepares for Saturday’s Festivus party at Bullies Pub in Xfinity. Who’s gonna score a hockey goal? Well, if it’s not the first line, it may not happen. The Flyers are having secondary scoring problems, but at least the goalie thing is starting to straighten itself out as Brian Elliott appears to be rounding into form. Claude Giroux’s HOF case and the possibility of Jordan Weal moving to center are also discussed on the first in-studio episode of BSH Radio in weeks. Learn more about your ad choices. The long Flyers-less summer is over. With rookie camp now in full swing, BSH Radio is back from its one-week hiatus to get you back into hockey mode. Training camp brings the obvious question of expectations for the season, and the gang starts by evaluating how head coach Dave Hakstol fits in with those expectations. Steph and Kelly express their concern regarding the coach and the overall decision making process in the organization, while Bill holds to his "wait-and-see" approach, with some reservations. Then, it's on to the goalies, as Anthony Stolarz's recent surgery is discussed, along with reasonable hopes for Brian Elliott. After a brief detour in projecting the captain's 2017-18, it's time to rant about Cole Bardreau, and question yet again just what the Flyers actually have in Jordan Weal. As the prospects congregate in Voorhees for their yearly development camp, BSH Radio is back to talk about the kids, with the help of special guest Riley Cote. Former Flyer and most recently former Phantoms assistant coach, Cote drops by to explain the details behind his Hemp Heals Foundation, before dishing out honest opinions on his past charges like Taylor Leier, Jordan Weal, and Scott Laughton. Then, it's all development camp, as Steph admits that Morgan Frost has won her over and Charlie runs through the players that impressed him most over the weekend. Learn more about your ad choices. Guests include Jordan Weal.
After a relatively uneventful July 1 for the Flyers, BSH Radio is back to evaluate whether the team was right to largely stay on the sidelines. But the Flyers did make a few moves, including the contract extension for Jordan Weal and addition of Brian Elliott, both of which our panel seems to like. The question of whether Hextall deserves credit for resolving the Weal situation or blame for letting it get this far is discussed, as is the decision to replace Steve Mason with what very might be an older version of Steve Mason. Bill then channels his inner medical doctor in trying to make sense of the Nolan Patrick injury news, before the crew closes things out with one final debate regarding the Brayden Schenn trade. North Van’s Jordan Weal enjoyed his free agency visit with the Canucks – the club said a lot of things that made sense to him and what he wants to do as a player. But Jordan says there were also a lot of positives to re-signing in Philadelphia, and those outweighed possibly signing in Vancouver
In this week’s episode of the Flyerdelphia Podcast, we look back on the 2017 NHL Draft and the Flyers nine selections from the weekend. We also discuss the Brayden Schenn trade and the return of Jori Lehtera and two draft picks. We also preview the upcoming free agency period, like Brian Elliott, who appears to be on his way to becoming the next Flyers goaltender, and Jordan Weal gets a new deal while we're recording, so we have instant reaction! Lastly, we do some housecleaning, reviewing the other offseason moves from before the NHL Draft and the Expansion Draft. Join Kevin Durso, Rob Riches and Dan Heaning as they discuss and review all of this and more.
On this week’s Flyperbole, Steve and Craig recap and analyze the Philadelphia Flyers’ 2017 draft, discuss the Jordan Weal signing as well as potential free agents, talk about Mark Recchi and the 2017 Hockey Hall of Fame inductees, and more! Check us out over at PattisonAve.com and leave any feedback for us on Twitter @flyperbole @sports_are_bad @estebomb @pattisonavenue.
Trevor Linden feels Wednesday visits from Sam Gagner and Jordan Weal went well, admitting Gagner would help address some of the Canucks power play woes. Trevor says discussions continue with Ryan Miller and Bo Horvat, and reiterates the club is thrilled with the elite skill of top pick Elias Pettersson
Paul Bissonnette, a former teammate of Jordan Weal, says Weal has small-man's syndrome in a good way. Biz says Weal is smaller, knows it, and is driven to prove people wrong. Biz says Weal, who's visiting the Canucks on Wednesday, is one of the hardest workers he's played with
Ray Ferraro suggests Leon Draisaitl is a star and worth an offer sheet, but also says teams need to have effective young players and a smart eye on the future cap to do it. Ray also says Jordan Weal, who the Canucks are wooing, is ready to be a fulltime NHLer and reminds him a bit of Tyler Johnson
The BSH Radio gang is back in full force to break down a surprising amount of Flyers news. After bemoaning Pittsburgh's luck-filled run to a 2-1 series lead in the Cup Final, the crew theorizes who might win the Conn Smythe, before moving onto the hockey team, the Flyers. Reasonable expectations for the newly-signed Oskar Lindblom are discussed, as Charlie worries that we might be overrating him just a bit. Then, the gang remembers that the Flyers have the 2nd overall pick, and the conversation turns to Nolan Patrick and Nico Hischier news at the NHL Combine. Things get heated as Steph argues that Jordan Weal is more the next Laughton rather than a must-sign player, with Bill and Charlie strongly disagreeing. The show ends with Bill crowing over George McPhee's comment that Michal Neuvirth is "technically perfect," making his "Neuvirth to Vegas" dream just a little more plausible Learn more about your ad choices. The Flyers' playoff hopes came to a merciful end on Sunday night, and the BSH Radio gang is back in full force give it the Irish wake that it deserves. Mike Vecchione's decision to sign is praised by Bill, while Charlie, Steph, and Kelly are bit more muted in their excitement. Discussion then turns to Jordan Weal, and whether his surprisingly stellar statistical production will earn him a new contract and maybe even an expansion draft protection slot in the offseason. Done with positivity, the gang closes things out by evaluating assistant coaches Joe Mullen and Ian Laperriere, who figure to be on hot seats in the offseason, and come away unimpressed to say the least. With the homestand behind them and a trip to Western Canada on the horizon, the BSH Radio gang discuss the Flyers lack of offense and whether the coach or personnel are to blame for the scoring deficiencies. Ghost's return to the lineup, Jordan Weal's promotion, and how good Provorov must be to drag MacDonald's play to its recent level of respectability are all covered on this week's episode. Gustav Nyquist's ridiculous Tim "Dr. Hook" McCracken impersonation and his pending suspension is also a hot topic. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Kings aren't just winning, they're creating significant separation between themselves and the rest of the Pacific Division. Chanelle and Diane are flying high on the smell of success. Anze Kopitar's still stellar, defensemen are scoring goals, and Jordan Weal finally gets to play in multiple games. Everything's coming up Thx Bud!
Cross your heart and say your prayers, it's another cuss-free episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week, Elan and Brian are feeling just peachy about the healthy returns of an apparent #1 goalie and a top line winger in Detroit, the apparently brief return of the Ducks' #1 goalie, and the hopefully fruitful return of a top line Canadien. But doggone it, even more players are off to the infirmary this week. The guys talk about the lineup and fantasy implications of injuries to a Metro starting goalie who was probably in need of rest anyway, a laundry list of Penguins, a struggling Panthers blueliner, a couple key pieces of Ottawa's top six, and a few key pieces of Tampa Bay's top nine. Bless the players whose production we can be thankful for, including a non-squeaky wheel in Philadelphia, several nondescript forwards in Carolina, a promoted hitter in Washington, a pair of persisting depth scorers in Columbus, and one of this year's stealthier breakouts. And, of course, we trust the hockey gods will shepherd back those players who may have lost their way, including a number one goalie not living up to his elite billing, and a King who is struggling far more than we'd anticipated. Players discussed on this episode include Jimmy Howard, Petr Mrazek, Gustav Nyquist, Henrik Zetterberg, James Reimer, Steve Mason, Sami Vatanen, Patrik Eaves, Ryan Getzlaf, John Gibson, Jonathan Bernier, Jhonas Enroth, Rickard Rakell, Alex Radulov, Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta, Magnus Hellberg, Jake Guentzel, Connor Sheary, Patric Hornqvist, Carl Hagelin, Aaron Ekblad, Michael Matheson, Jason Demers, Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Marchessault, Thomas Vanek, Jussi Jokinen, Reilly Smith, Kyle Turris, J.G. Are you still in contention for your championship? Or keen on picking up pointers for next year? Or just can't yet kick the habit of getting your fantasy hockey fix each week? No matter what the reason, we've got a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast just for you! The huge bulk of this episode is framed by Injuries and Outjuries. Right off the top, Elan and Brian squabble about whether there's any value left to be had on Long Island with Tavares on the shelf, and get their best told-you-so voices out to comment on the Isles' goaltending situation. They also chat about he 2nd best Panther to own now that Barkov is out, Florida's opening night starter in 2017-18 (spoiler: not Reto Berra), and Philadelphia's opening night starter in 2017-18 (spoiler: maybe Reto Berra??). The guys offer up some replacement options for a banging and mashing blueline Flyer, celebrate the rise and lament the fall of members of he Flyers forward corps, and go ape over the bizarre power play formation in Nashville earlier today (and how it may relate to their confidence in a former 40 goal scorer). They also demonstrate concern for oft-reliable Sharks, all Wild goalies, the Penguins' powerplay quarterback, the Senators' playoff chances, and the future of the Detroit Red Wings. In Outjuries, our hosts wonder if Anaheim really needs to turn all the way back to their returned number one goalie, and marvel at the 22nd thirty-goal scorer of 2016-17 who is doing things that, in the previous eleven years, he was never given the chance to do. They muse on the future of an ageing bounced-back Duck and a rising young Lightning. The show closes with Hot Streaks, where a Leafs rookie is making a case to be taken in the first round, a new Avalanche is making a case for people to realize he's on the Avalanche, a King is getting point for himself but not the team, another interchangeable anonymous Blackhawk takes a successful turn on the top line, a couple goalies who are normally scary are making themselves slightly less scary, and a pedigreed Hurricane d-man is suddenly somewhat reliable in his production. Also, Elan flexes in his sleeveless shirt. And before credits roll, we pay tribute to the teams we've lost and celebrate those that have won.
