One person was killed and another was taken to the hospital after a Mooresville home near Lake Norman exploded early Tuesday morning, Iredell County emergency officials confirmed. Multiple agencies responded to the explosion at a home along Barber Loop and Old Arborway Road, which is just off Brawley School Road. It happened right around midnight. Guest: Victoria Gibson, Affordable Housing reporter Sometimes even beloved neighbours and friends can slip away unnoticed at life's end, with their memory frozen in time. That's what happened to Charles Parris, 81, of Henry Street in Grange Park. He died at home, remains quietly buried, but worldly belongings remained. For 10 months, his Toronto Community Housing Corp. apartment sat uninhabited despite a raging housing crisis. Such vacancy limbo seems to be connected to another growing problem — an increasing number of unclaimed bodies. Victoria Gibson tells a haunting story on “This Matters.” This episode was produced by Saba Eitizaz, Brian Bradley and Paulo Marques.

A “pink buoy” donated to honour a life lost is saving lives on that very same beach. A group of cold water swimmers were about 75 meters off 4th Beach when one of the swimmers - Sarah - noticed that one of the group, a young man who had recently moved to Cape Town from Pretoria, was unresponsive. Sarah asked him if he was ok and got no answer… he had stopped swimming, and she immediately knew he needed help. Little did we know that the pink buoy - the flotation device that was used in this incredible rescue - was donated by an anonymous South African who lost her son on that very beach. Mardus Strydom was that man who was saved, and he has joined us on the Good Things Guy podcast today to tell us what has happened since then. Listen to the interview here:

30 episodes and 4 poll nominations later, Drowning's Pool magnum opus "Sinner" finally gets a review and it turns out it's not a moment too soon, as this one is a banger. Amidst talk of Bryan undergoing a personal rebrand, the boys do a rebrand of their own as they talk about originally disliking "Bodies" and realize during the work for this episode that no, it's actually one of the best nu-metal songs ever. And the rest of the album follows suit, as we thoroughly enjoy it all and it makes us realize Dave Williams was a true talent lost too soon. He seemed like a hell of a cool guy, too. That said, at least we have this record still and it packs a wallop and we dissect it all. If you want some more of us two cool guys, you can head on over to patreon.com/thepodkast, where $4/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every month. Last month, Steve Sladkowski from PUP joined us to talk about one of the truly bizarre contributions to the nu-metal canon, Fieldy's solo instrumental album "Bassically". Yeah, that's the real title. It was a ton of fun and we also have a great Discord and two short singles episodes every month, so check it out!

0046 - In this episode I end up talking about a lot of things in a little bit of a stream of consciousness. The first thing I discuss is the suicide of Mike Adams, our former Ratio Christi Faculty Advisor at UNCW. I talk about how there wouldn't be a Ratio Christi chapter at UNCW if it were not for Mike. I also talk about the reality of suicide, especially in the Corona world. I also wanted to talk about how easy it is for apologists to lose their first love. How easy it is for us to focus on loving facts about Jesus and not actually loving Jesus. I know that Corona, and the isolation of the last few months, has shown me how dry my relationship with Jesus really was. I talk about the Christian response to suicide and how I think many people just miss the mark. Finally I talk about a short book Francis Schaeffer wrote called, "Two Contents, Two Realities." This book really sums up what I am wrestling through now and how Christians (Apologists!!) need relationships with Jesus and other people. I hope this episode will bless you and challenge you. Praying for the friends and family of Mike Adams.
