The Lange-Douglas relationship frays further as the prime minister unilaterally pulls the pin on a flat tax package signed off by cabinet. A furious Douglas flies back from Europe, but the split only deepens, as Lange declares it's time for radical reforms to pause and calls for a “cup of tea” and the two Beehive offices go to war, with Douglas loyalists putting the blame on Lange's lover, Margaret Pope. Something has to give, and soon it does. New and exclusive interviews with Roger Douglas, Stephen Mills, Richard Prebble, Geoffrey Palmer, Hekia Parata, Gary McCormick and Margaret Wilson. At the urging of the gay community, Fran Wilde takes the homosexual law reform bill to parliament in 1985. The campaign encounters fierce resistance from MPs on both the National and Labour sides of the house. Is it fair for Labour today to claim it as a party triumph? At the same time, strides are being taken in introducing the Treaty of Waitangi into political and legal structures, as part of a blizzard of reforms. In one crucial example, change will come after David Lange misreads his notes. New and exclusive interviews with Fran Wilde, Bill Logan, Hekia Parata, Roger Douglas, Richard Prebble and Margaret Wilson. Roger Douglas's radical overhaul of the NZ economy kicks through the gears. A new investor class gets high on champagne and shares. What could go wrong? A bonfire of subsidies leaves farmers on their knees. Corporatisation sends thousands of state workers to the dole queue. Labour is returned to power in 1987 despite a campaign with starkly contrasting messages. For Lange, victory is bittersweet. When the global crash smashes New Zealand, Douglas seizes the opportunity to go harder, and go faster. New and exclusive interviews with Richard Prebble, Rudi Robinson-Cole, Kevin Geddes, Kim Workman, Bob Harvey, Geoffrey Palmer, Richard Prebble and Margaret Wilson. In a tense and divided cold war world, David Lange emerges as an anti-nuclear champion, despite being out of contact, deep in the Pacific when the crisis strikes. The Americans are furious: didn't the NZ PM pledge to smooth the waters in Labour to allow a US ship visit? They become even angrier when he takes the stage at the Oxford Union, to global acclaim. When an act of state terrorism sees a Greenpeace ship sunk and a photographer killed in Auckland harbour, the public mood on nukes only solidifies. New and exclusive interviews with Geoffrey Palmer, former US assistant secretary of state Richard Armitage, Fran Wilde, Richard Prebble and Margaret Wilson. Victory for Lange in 1984 comes with a cluster of crises – economic and constitutional. In a pair of spellbinding TV interviews, the bellicose outgoing PM Rob Muldoon refuses to devalue and Lange responds, enraged. The deputy PM, Jim McLay, summons senior ministers, who plot a high-wire response. Out of the maelstrom, Roger Douglas launches a revolution, to transform New Zealand's creaking economy from the developed world's most regulated to its most market embracing. Including new and exclusive interviews with Jim McLay, Richard Harman, Roger Douglas, Richard Prebble, Stephen Mills, Hekia Parata and Margaret Wilson. This is a special memorial edition of this program and recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Rome airport attack. We are joined by two survivors that were on a Pan Am plane that was firebombed at the Rome airport on December 17, 1973: Pan Am Flight Engineer Ken Pfrang and Pan Am passenger B.J. Geisler.B.J. is the author of the recently published book, Terror on Pan Am Flight 110. This episode is a follow up to "Episode 6: Hijackings and the Dawn of Global Terrorism." If you haven't heard this episode, we encourage you to do so after listening to this installment. In order to understand the gravity of global terrorism throughout the 1970s and 1980s, it is important to examine the 1967 six day war between Israel and neighboring Arab countries, the September 1970 hijacking of four airplanes all bound for United States, as a direct result of those hijacking…the subsequent Jordanian civil war also known as Black September(Sep. 1970- Jul. 1971), and the Munich Olympic attacks in 1972. These topics are discussed in Episode 6. In the early afternoon of Monday, December 17, 1973 at Rome's Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, a Pan Am Boeing 707, registration number N407PA, named Clipper Celestial was getting ready for departure with 53 passengers onboard and nine crew members. At around 12:51 local time, five members of a radical Palestinian terrorist group pulled out weapons from their luggage in the airport terminal lounge and opened fire killing two people. They then ran out of the terminal on the tarmac and then attacked the Pan Am jet by running up the boarding stairs of the front and rear doors and threw three hand grenades inside the plane. A total of 29 persons, including 4 senior Moroccan officials and 17 ARAMCO employees and family members were killed on the aircraft. Passenger Bonnie Presnell died later at the hospital with severe burns bringing the total killed from the attack on the Pan Am plane to 30. We remember them…The Pan Am Employees and Family:Diana Perez, Purser; Lambert Tununga, Pan Am Catering; Bonnie Erbeck, wife of Captain Andrew ErbeckMembers of the Moroccan government:Inani Abdelatif, Moroccan state secretary for economic planning; Mounlr Doukkali, Moroccan undersecretary of state for youth and sports; Mohammad Lazrak, general secretary at the Moroccan Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Mekki Zailacpii, attaché to the Moroccan Premier's OfficeARAMCO Employees and FamilyMuriel Berka, Henrietta Echmenn, Robert Ghormley, Charles Walker Heywood, Clarence Hildebrand, Thelma Hildebrand, Pamela Julavitis, Emily Kempf, Jane Kirby, Mary Martin, Bonnie Presnell, Edith Roundtree, Russell Turner, Mary Wamp, Margaret Wilson, Miss Wouters of BelgiumAdditional PassengersGiuliano DeAngelis, an employee of Alitalia, his wife Emma, and 9-year-old daughter Monica; Miss Filipe of Portugal; Raffaele Narcisco, an Italian mining expert; Miss Rodrigues of Portugal; A. The Able McLaughlins by Margaret Wilson audiobook. The Able McLaughlins won the Pulitzer Prize for a novel in 1924 in Margaret Wilson's debut work. Aptly described as 'Little House on the Prairie - but for adults' the novel follows a group of Scottish families who pioneer the Iowa prairie in the 1860’s. The main storyline concerns Wully, the eldest McLaughlin son, who returns home from the Civil War to find that his sweetheart, Chirstie, has experienced an unspeakable tragedy that will profoundly affect the couple's lives. Their story is one of shame and honor, secrets and guilt, fear and loathing, revenge and forgiveness. But perhaps the stars of the novel are the strong older women such as Wully’s mother, Isobel, whose love and matriarchal strength keeps the family together as well as Chirstie’s stepmother, Barbara, who finds ways to make her good-for-nothing husband keep his promises. Interlaced with the plots are richly detailed descriptions of frontier prairie life, the love that families share, and the relationships within the Scottish immigrant community. D.O. or Do Not: The Osteopathic Physician's Journey for Premed & Medical Students
In today's episode we focus on Women in Osteopathic Medicine. We have the honor of interviewing Dr. Thomas Quinn the author of "The Feminine Touch: History of Women in Osteopathic Medicine". Dr. Quinn is military and family practice physician who transitioned from clinical practice into academic medicine teaching at the Lake Erie college of osteopathic medicine branch campus in Florida. During a “pilgrimage” to the Kirksville museum of Osteopathic Medicine, he extensively researched and wrote a definitive book entitled, “ The feminine touch: women in osteopathic medicine,” which later was made into an Emmy award winning PBS documentary. Dr. Quinn describes the importance that AT Still placed on training women whit at the time was far from the norm. Dr. Quinn highlights the contributions that prominent female physicians such as Margaret Wilson, Barbara Ross Lee, and Karen Nichols have made to osteopathy. We hope you enjoy this episode and would suggest if you have not heard some of our prior episodes highlighting these amazing women or the PBS special, "the Femine Touch" we urge you to you take the time to do so!The special can be found athttps://www.pbs.org/video/the-feminine-touch-documentary-poirx0/”
D.O. or Do Not: The Osteopathic Physician's Journey for Premed & Medical Students
Today on the DO or Do Not podcast, we have Dr. Margaret Wilson, Dean of ATSU Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. ATSU is the oldest/founding osteopathic school and is located in Kirksville, Missouri. We first interviewed Dr. Wilson 2 years ago on episode 21 and are excited to have her back on the podcast. Today's episode is focused on the pre-medical perspective. We will discuss with Dr. Wilson topics such as what makes a great osteopathic school candidate. She will talk about non-traditional applicants and answer questions such as “is it ever too late to apply to medical school.” She will talk about what makes her school special and why students should consider ATSUCOM. Finally, she discusses why many pre-medical students do not know about opportunities in osteopathic medicine and what DOs can do to improve understanding of the profession. Especially for new medical school applicants, understanding the field of osteopathic medicine and the DO degree can be difficult due to ongoing challenges in public awareness. In this podcast, we take a clinical direction with our questions for Dr. Wilson to shed light on these topics. Dr. Wilson discusses some of the current challenges in bringing public awareness to the DO profession along with her personal experiences that have shaped her as an educator and an osteopathic physician. In this podcast, she will provide illumination to the audience on the DO profession for the general public and interested premeds who want to join the DO community. We hope you enjoy this episode.

Margaret Wilson (1667-1685) & Margaret McLachlan (d.1685): Having set the stage, we now get to tell the story of the Wigtown Martyrs of Scotland! Margaret Wilson was a grandmother in her sixties, while Margaret McLachlan was just a girl of eighteen; yet because of their faith in Jesus Christ and dependence on His Word instead of religious and political authorities, these two brave women were arrested and executed for their faith. Their willingness to lay down their lives for Jesus made them radiant and inspiring witnesses...and most certainly women worth knowing! Trial and Triumph: Stories from Church History by Richard M. Hannula
Margaret Wilson (1667-1685) & Margaret McLachlan (d.1685): We continue our look at women of the Reformation period with the story of the Wigtown Martyrs, two remarkable Scottish women of faith. BUT before we launch into their story, we felt it was important to explore the background of the Reformation in Scotland, so we can understand just what these women were up against! It's pretty fascinating stuff–you won't want to miss it! Trial and Triumph: Stories from Church History by Richard M. Hannula

On February 20th, 2020, Kevin Baker and Sean Washington walked out of prison after spending twenty-five years locked up for a double-murder they didn’t commit. The trial that condemned them to a quarter century of incarceration relied on a sole witness who later acknowledged she was under the influence of crack cocaine at the time of the killings. How did Kevin and Sean prove their innocence? Was justice for the victims ever attained? Tune in to this week’s jarring installment of Open Mike to find out. Show Notes [00:58] Kevin Baker’s and Sean Washington’s backgrounds and bios. [01:47] Mike Morse: Kevin Baker and Sean Washington, welcome to Open Mike! Let’s start with Kevin. How long were you in prison for a murder you did not commit? [02:21] MM: I know this is a really hard question, but how has this affected your life and the types of things you missed in prison? [03:07] MM: Sean, do you want to answer that question? [03:14] Sean Washington: Being in prison takes a toll on you. We’ve lost multiple family members, didn’t have the opportunity to be fathers to our children, we missed out on a lot. Prison does something psychological to you, too. Men who do time in prison suffer PTSD, just like people who go to war. [04:01] MM: At 23 years old, before getting arrested, what were your plans for the future? [05:39] MM: What was it like growing up in Camden, New Jersey? [08:03] MM: I unfortunately have to bring you back to January 28th, 1995… there’s a double a murder that would change both of your lives forever… [09:57] Sean encountered the bodies of Margaret Wilson and Rodney turner, initially mistaking Rodney’s body for his nephew’s, which made him distraught and compelled him to called 911 anonymously. [10:34] MM: Five days later, an informant said her cousins were in the area. Did either of you know her cousins? [12:51] MM: Were either one of you friends these witnesses? Did you used to hang out with either of them? [14:30] MM: Police decided to make arrests on February 13th, 1995. Kevin you were taken into custody, and Sean, you ran from the police. What happened there? [17:28] MM: Did either of you have the understanding that there was a bad identification? [18:11} Kevin Baker: I knew it was a bad identification, because I wasn’t there! I’m starting to question if the witness was actually there… her story can’t make sense if I wasn’t there… there was nothing that corroborated her claim. [20:28] MM: What kind of defense attorney did you have? [21:41] MM: Did your lawyer ever interview your alibi witnesses? [24:25] MM: Did anything happen with these lawyers? Did they get reprimanded or grieved? [25:35] MM: I assume you were offered plea deals? [26:53] MM: They never recovered weapons, DNA evidence, or more than one unreliable witness named Denise Rand? [27:38] MM: Denise Rand was allegedly paid under a material witness statute. [32:01} MM: Kevin and Sean had a joint trial. [33:31] MM: Too many people we interview didn’t make noise when it became apparent they were getting railroaded. But it sounds like you were making noise… [35:04] MM: August 1st, 1996 you’re both convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced for sixty years. Did either of you think the truth would ever come out? [37:88] MM: Sean, what happened to your 911 call that you placed? [39:25] Sean’s case was a topic of discourse at a convention, which sparked the interest of several lawyers. [42:47] MM: The witness who claimed you guys were guilty of murder died of breast cancer, but her friends came forward and told her you were innocent… [45:58] MM: February 11th, 2020, you walk out of prison. What was that feeling like? [47:38] MM: Kevin, where are you at? What are you doing now? [48:16] MM: Sean, what about you? [49:59] MM: Have either of you been compensated by the state of New Jersey? [51:11] MM: What would you like other wrongfully convicted people to know? [53:45] You need to advocate for your rights if you believe you’re innocent. No one will change the way the law is interpreted unless people stand up for the truth — even when the truth is being challenged. [54:41] MM: Thank you both for your message and for urging our viewers to stay awake. Appreciate you both. Thank you for sharing your stories. [55:13] MM: Thank you for watching and listening Open Mike. Another tragedy, and the state won’t compensate them. It’s unbelievable. It’s the same, old stuff. It’s frustrating and heartbreaking. We appreciate you for being part of our community. We’ll see you next time.
When we last took a look at the so-called golden age of Charles II, we talked about the persecution of Catholics and, in particular, the witch hunt launched against them during the Popish Plot craze launched by Titus Oates's fabrications. But Catholics weren't alone in being given a lousy time. Puritans, the more fundamentalists of Protestants, were also targets. They were seen as the main architects of the English republic that had just ended. They were also seen as dangerously unorthodox, when conformity was viewed as the right way to go. This was the last time, indeed, when anyone made the attempt to impose a single faith on Britain. So Episcopalians, the trend within the Church of England that was as close to Catholicism as you could get without giving up on Protestantism altogether, also persecuted Dissenters and Non-Conformist Protestants. And it wasn't a nice sight either... So this was another group of people for whom the age wasn't terribly golden. Ultimately, that was something that also revealed the relative loss of power of the king, and the emergence, notably in parliament, of tendencies of opinion opposed to each other, for or against the king. Religion and politics melded. And, for our next episode, we're going to see how that led to the beginnings of the party system. The Wigtown (or Solway) MartyrsAt Wigtown, (Dumfries and Galloway) two courageous women, Margaret Wilson and Margaret McLaghlin, were executed by drowning in the Solway Firth, for the crime of worshipping Christ, in accordance with His Word, without interference from the state. Presbyterian Covenanters, they worshipped God in the fields and hills, singing Psalms and listening to faithful preaching. But that broke the law, which required people to attend the services of the Curates and Priests and Bishops of the Episcopalian Orders. Along with many other faithful Christians the two Margarets paid the supreme price, rather than deny their Lord.Listen to the podcast, for an inspiring story of faith under persecution.Psalm content with permission of Connor Quigley, www.ThePsalmsSung.org TO READ THE TRANSCRIPT - CLICK THIS LINK. Continuing the multi-parter we began last time on The True Crime Enthusiast Podcast, where this time around, we hear of the continuing investigation into the horrific murder of grandmother Margaret Wilson in East Yorkshire in 1995, senselessly slaughtered on a country lane near her lifelong home - for no apparent reason whatsoever. And the identification of a suspect - but was it the killer? The episode contains details and descriptions of a crime and events that some listeners may find disturbing or upsetting, so discretion is advised whilst listening. Today on the podcast we’re speaking with Gianna Cassetta and Margaret Wilson, co-authors of The Caring Teacher, where they lay out specific strategies to build and improve on even the most challenging relationships. They write that “we have to stop thinking about students from the lens of deficit and become aware of students’ potential and our responsibility for cultivating that potential in each and every student.” Our conversation began with how Gianna got the idea for The Caring Teacher with a story about her son…

At the age of 37 a young women, who made her way up through a pretty sexist world, got the biggest job in the country. No, it’s not Jacinda Ardern today, it’s Theresa Gattung, in 1999.For a brief little window there a few years later most of the top jobs in this country were held by women - Dame Sian Elias was Chief Justice, Dame Silvia Cartwright was Governor-General, Margaret Wilson was Attorney-General, Theresa Gattung was Telecom’s chief executive and Helen Clark was Prime Minister. But boy how we slipped. By the time Gattung retired in 2007 it was only Dame Elias left. How do we get back? Well, the new PM is a start, but gains got can be gains lost. One way is for women to empower women. And it’s in that capacity Theresa Gattung joins the podcast today. After Telecom she’s gone on to chair major boards, co-found ridiculous success My Food Bag, and get a Companion of the NZ order of Merit gong for services to business and philanthropy, with her work for the Wellington SPCA and organisations empowering women. Like the newly lunched SheEO. A fund that has women invest in women, part of a global 1 billion dollar idea that Theresa has just helped bring here. Chronic illness, by definition, is a failure to heal in spite of interventions. When embarking on a healing journey with any holistic modality, we must first ask, “Can I count on my body to heal itself when all is said and done, after all the effort and expense? Holistic modalities work with the body to facilitate healing, but ultimately it is your body’s innate self-repair ability that determines whether you get well. Today’s chaotic environment is increasingly taking a toll on what we have always taken for granted: our vital ability to self-repair. Without it there can be no healing. Our “Innate intelligence” is a function of the Human Body Field, the “computer” that controls the physiology of the of the body. Through the work of Master Acupuncturist Peter Fraser, who spent 30-years mapping out the quantum electrodynamic structures of the Human Body Field in detail, we now have the science to assess and rebuild the compromised HBF from the ground up. My guest is Margaret Wilson who is a practitioner of this technology, NES Health. For more information about her work and NES Health visit http://biophotontherapyusa.com/biophoton/biohoton.htm
The 18 year old Scottish girl by the name of Margaret Wilson had taken a lonely road for most of her formative years. September 2015 Nearly ninety Veterans of the Government Code and Cypher School and its many outstations gathered at Bletchley Park on Sunday 6 September, to reminisce and meet old friends and new. After a summer of 70th anniversary commemorations, it was a chance for people who worked in secret at both Bletchley Park and its outstations to remember their contribution. They took the opportunity to bring their friends and families to soak up the atmosphere back in the very buildings where they did their vital war work. There were also plenty of chances to share memories with people who worked in different sections. The Veterans are now free from the obligations of the Official Secrets Act and can discuss the details of their work, in stark contrast to the strict rules to which they all adhered during the dark days of World War Two. Listen in as we speak to five Veterans making their first appearance on the Bletchley Park Podcast, some speaking publicly for the very first time. Japanese Naval Section Wren Margaret Thomas, Dennis Underwood of the 14th Army, Hollerith Operator & decoder Joan Joslin, Hanslope Park Engineer Bartram Robinson and finally Florence Cole, a WAAF Teleprinter Operator based at Chicksands from 1943 to 1944. She said "All these years, I 've never considered myself important enough to talk about it. I 've never felt I was very special but I can look back now and think maybe I did contribute a little bit. " Many thanks to roving reporters Sarah Langston and Kerry Howard. Picture: ©shaunarmstrong/mubsta.com Margaret Wilson was a WAAF Morse Slip Reader at Bletchley Park from 1944 to 1946.
