As middle-tier M&A dominos fall this summer, National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) president and CEO Craig Purser joins the latest Brewbound Podcast to discuss the tectonic shifts in the distribution landscape following Republic National Distributing Company's (RNDC) fire sale. Purser is part of a double shot of interviews this week, including Aeronaut director of programming Deepa Chungi, who shares how the Massachusetts craft brewery created a booming events business. First, Purser offers insights into what middle-tier consolidation means for small producers and distributors, and how the power structure has been reshaped with mega spirits distributor Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits picking up Anheuser-Busch InBev's distribution rights in major markets. Purser also explains what he believes the intoxicating hemp beverage industry needs to do to get lawmakers onboard and potentially avert the ban coming in November. Then, Chungi explores the keys for small breweries looking to add private and public events to their businesses, and why events such as "Pitch a Friend" and Dungeons & Dragons game nights have packed Aeronaut's taproom. Plus, the Brewbound team discusses the demise of Schlitz, the closure of Minneapolis' Bauhaus Brew Labs and a helluva partnership for Mike's Dirty Lemonade.
This week's Business Awards Show discusses why Your Cat Deserves a Hotel Not a Cattery with Abi Purser, founder of Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel. An award-winning entrepreneur, Abi turned a frustrating search for somewhere premium to leave her rescue cat Norman into a nationwide franchise with nearly thirty locations. Abi's story is fascinating from start to finish. A chance visit to a local cattery, a nudge from her mum, two years of planning battles, and a Daily Mail feature that went global before she had even finished decorating. She covers the realities of building a franchise, why picking the right people matters more than anything, and how awards have helped build the credibility that keeps customers and franchisees coming through the door. And let's not forget those luxuries that sets Longcroft apart from the rest. Wrought iron beds for cats. Obviously! About Abi Abi Purser launched the world's first five-star luxury cat hotel from her garden in Welwyn Garden City in 2010 — just six suites, individually tailored care, and a standard that redefined what cat boarding could be. What began as a boutique concept is now a thriving franchise group of 30 locations across the UK, each run by genuinely cat-obsessed owners who share Abi's exacting standards and commitment to animal welfare. A multi-award-winning entrepreneur — recognised at the Best Businesswomen Awards, twice named SME Hertfordshire Entrepreneur of the Year, and featured by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and The Guardian — Abi is also a respected mentor and coach for independent business owners looking to scale sustainably. Mother of three, Abi is Hertfordshire-based, and happiest with a cat on her lap. {2:15} The journey to building a multiple franchisee business. {7:47} How a cat is treated at Longcroft. {10:30} The challenges of franchising a business. {14:16} A business you can fit around children. {15:11} Abi's awards journey. {17:18} How awards strengthen customer demand. {18:10} Yes, awards attract more franchisees. {19:19} Becoming an awards judge. {21:30} Creating brand awareness as an award sponsor. {22:58} The requirements of growing a franchisee network. {25:30} Recruiting new franchisees. {28:47} The Longcroft franchise framework and package. {31:01} Abi's plans for the coming years. In part two of this fascinating conversation, Michael Purser of Rosebud Company takes listeners deeper into the art and judgment behind true wood floor restoration. From chemically removing old finishes without damaging historic wood to testing modern hardening oils for durability and maintenance, Michael explains how preservation work balances craftsmanship, chemistry and common sense. His stories are packed with vivid details, including dramatic saves on high-profile projects and the kind of field-tested wisdom that only comes from decades of hands-on experience. Purser discusses restoring legendary properties like Edsel Ford's home, revealing how history, architecture, materials and maintenance all collide in preservation work. Along the way, he shares practical lessons for today's floor pros: educate clients, respect the original intent of a floor, and never assume sanding is the right answer. This episode is both inspiring and highly instructive for anyone who cares about wood floors, restoration or the craft behind exceptional work. In this episode, host Stephen Diggins and wood floor historical restoration expert Michael Purser of The Rosebud Company in Atlanta take a deep dive into wood floor finishes: the rise of urethane finishes, which helped revive wood flooring after wall-to-wall carpet nearly crushed the trade; how homeowners drove the change because they were tired of the constant upkeep of wax floors; and the shift from oil-modified urethanes to early waterborne finishes and later hardwax oils; and the need to educate clients instead of allowing them to blame the finish for every problem. The pair also examine the difference between true restoration and ordinary refinishing—how restoration means protecting original wood and removing surface buildup without sacrificing historic material, often through what he calls “Passive Refinishing” rather than sanding. Purser challenges romantic ideas about old finishes, noting that historic wax, shellac, oil, and varnish systems were often labor-intensive, fragile, and unattractive unless maintained by wealthy households with help. He also explains the nuances of museum and preservation work, where every mark, patch, and “witness” area can carry historical meaning, and the ultimate sin would be to make the wood flooring look brand new. Dr. Purser explains how certain environmental chemicals can trigger major inflammatory events in infants and young children—events that may contribute to autism in some cases.Leucovorin is simply high-dose folinic acid, a natural form of folate. While it may help some children and has even been promoted as a “cure,” it's only one piece of the puzzle. True protection comes from supporting the body's entire defense system—reducing toxins, calming inflammation, and strengthening resilience during those critical early years. If you have questions about VARS Glutathione or testing options that could provide answers, reach out to our practice to learn more.

This is a special memorial edition of this program and recognizes the 50th anniversary of the Rome airport attack. We are joined by two survivors that were on a Pan Am plane that was firebombed at the Rome airport on December 17, 1973: Pan Am Flight Engineer Ken Pfrang and Pan Am passenger B.J. Geisler.B.J. is the author of the recently published book, Terror on Pan Am Flight 110. This episode is a follow up to "Episode 6: Hijackings and the Dawn of Global Terrorism." If you haven't heard this episode, we encourage you to do so after listening to this installment. In order to understand the gravity of global terrorism throughout the 1970s and 1980s, it is important to examine the 1967 six day war between Israel and neighboring Arab countries, the September 1970 hijacking of four airplanes all bound for United States, as a direct result of those hijacking…the subsequent Jordanian civil war also known as Black September(Sep. 1970- Jul. 1971), and the Munich Olympic attacks in 1972. These topics are discussed in Episode 6. In the early afternoon of Monday, December 17, 1973 at Rome's Leonardo Da Vinci Airport, a Pan Am Boeing 707, registration number N407PA, named Clipper Celestial was getting ready for departure with 53 passengers onboard and nine crew members. At around 12:51 local time, five members of a radical Palestinian terrorist group pulled out weapons from their luggage in the airport terminal lounge and opened fire killing two people. They then ran out of the terminal on the tarmac and then attacked the Pan Am jet by running up the boarding stairs of the front and rear doors and threw three hand grenades inside the plane. A total of 29 persons, including 4 senior Moroccan officials and 17 ARAMCO employees and family members were killed on the aircraft. Passenger Bonnie Presnell died later at the hospital with severe burns bringing the total killed from the attack on the Pan Am plane to 30. We remember them…The Pan Am Employees and Family:Diana Perez, Purser; Lambert Tununga, Pan Am Catering; Bonnie Erbeck, wife of Captain Andrew ErbeckMembers of the Moroccan government:Inani Abdelatif, Moroccan state secretary for economic planning; Mounlr Doukkali, Moroccan undersecretary of state for youth and sports; Mohammad Lazrak, general secretary at the Moroccan Ministry of Commerce and Industry; Mekki Zailacpii, attaché to the Moroccan Premier's OfficeARAMCO Employees and FamilyMuriel Berka, Henrietta Echmenn, Robert Ghormley, Charles Walker Heywood, Clarence Hildebrand, Thelma Hildebrand, Pamela Julavitis, Emily Kempf, Jane Kirby, Mary Martin, Bonnie Presnell, Edith Roundtree, Russell Turner, Mary Wamp, Margaret Wilson, Miss Wouters of BelgiumAdditional PassengersGiuliano DeAngelis, an employee of Alitalia, his wife Emma, and 9-year-old daughter Monica; Miss Filipe of Portugal; Raffaele Narcisco, an Italian mining expert; Miss Rodrigues of Portugal; A. Marking a new NGI exhibition on artist Sarah Purser, who played a pivotal role in the development of modern Irish art, Patrick Geoghegan explores her life, work and legacy alongside panellists Dr Caroline Campbell, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, Dónal Maguire, Curator of the Sarah Purser exhibition (and former Curator of the ESB Centre for the Study of Irish Art and Keeper of Art and Industry, National Museum of Ireland), and Clodagh Finn, journalist and author of 'Through Her Eyes: a new history of Ireland in 21 women'.
Toby Purser and I had a wonderful chat, as I knew it would be. We had a particularly "deep dive" into teaching and every aspect of what that entails. I discovered that his love of opera started after a stint conducting in prison, I also learned how a chance meeting with an elderly gentleman changed his musical life, and Toby used an English phrase in this interview that frankly I was surprised nobody else had used in the previous 136 episodes! If you would like to discover a whole lot more about conductors and conducting, why not subscribe at https://www.patreon.com/amiconthepodium, and, for a monthly fee starting from just £5 a month, you can access two new series of interviews, group Zoom meetings with other fans of the podcast and myself, a monthly bulletin about the podcast and my own career as well as articles, photos, videos and even conducting lessons from myself.
