The Calgary Flames were shut out by the St. Louis Blues and the boos filled the Saddledome. In a 3-0 loss, Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov spoke to the media. The boos need to be a wake-up call for this team. There is only so much Jacob Markstrom can do to keep them in the game. Dillon Dube caught everyone's eyes for all the wrong reasons. Matthew Coronato had a very tough game defensively. Nothing about the team on the ice screamed that they were a team. Head coach Ryan Huska spoke to the media and shared that the lack of work ethic was something that could never happen again. It's borderline discouraging for many fans that this is how the season started. Do fans have a reason to believe? Jacob Markstrom and Ryan Huska share their thoughts on teamwork and Huberdeau and Kadri's contributions. Plus, we wrap up the end of the show with the winners and losers of the week.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Parkview AdvanceFor more than 25 years, Parkview Advance has helped businesses secure working capital. We look at some of our recent social media posts including a huge Jack Hughes sale, a crazy Bedard record and what could be the flip of the year (35:33). In new product releases, Billy Celio from Upper Deck returns to discuss the new 2023-24 Upper Deck Series Two set including how the much-chased Connor Bedard Easter Egg came about (43:01). The Calgary Flames started their season off with a bang with a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets. The home opener was quite special with a moment of silence for Chris Snow as well as his family dropping the puck. The Flames won for the Snows. Jacob Markstrom played out of his mind and kept the Flames alive. The Flames had no business leading let alone winning. Special teams looked great too. Andrew Mangiapane scored the first goal of the season and no one could've deserved that more. He has absolutely earned a spot on that top right wing. Let the chemistry between Jonathan Huberdeau, Elias Lindholm and Mangiapane build. This line could be magical. Rasmus Andersson and Mackenzie Weegar earned themselves a goal and had quite the night out on the ice. Matthew Coronato is still buzzing and Marc Savard's power play looked beautiful. The Flames deserve credit but you can't get too ahead of yourselves here. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Calgary Flames still have a handful of unanswered questions or narratives floating around. The Flames are still working with three goaltenders and Dustin Wolf has to see consistent NHL time. Going into the season with three goalies sets Jacob Markstrom up for failure. Jonathan Huberdeau is poised for a comeback. Is his preseason collision going to impact how he starts the season? How will Nazem Kadri bounce back after a tough second half of the season? Is there a way to ensure everyone makes those positive strides and avoids regression? Plus, there is a possibility the Flames start the season without Jakob Pellitier. Matthew Coronato has shown that he can shoot. The Flames just need to work on getting him acclimated to the NHL and getting that puck on his stick. Plus these pending UFAs. Now it's looking like Mikael Backlund is re-signing and becoming captain. Please trade Noah Hanifin before he walks for nothing and Elias Lindholm needs to make his decision, yesterday. Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews, Nathan Mackinnon and David Pastrnak are among some of the most talented players in the league. They are also considered some of the most underpaid. How can someone making $13m be underpaid? It's all about the value in his production. Today Jess Belmosto and Nick Zararis talk about how you maximize every dollar on every contract. Mackenzie Weegar's recent extension and Elias Lindholm's current cap hit are two examples of that. The Flames have to find a way to get the most out of rookies like Matthew Coronato and Jakob Pellitier. They have to get the most of the prime years at the best value. They have to get the most of the prime years at the best value.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!BirddogsGo to birddogs.com/LOCKEDONNHL or enter promo code LOCKEDONNHL for a free water bottle with any order. First, they analyze the Sens' prospect depth, featuring a myriad of energy wingers such as Ridly Greig, Tyler Boucher, and Zack Ostapchuk, as well as other promising pieces such as defenseman Jacob Bernard-Docker and goaltender Mads Søgaard. Next, they delve into Toronto's pool of futures, headlined by Matthew Knies, Topi Niemela, and 2023 1st-round selection Easton Cowan. Are the Calgary Flames and Nashville Predators in a similar situation? How do these two soggy middle teams remain competitive when neither team has fully committed to their rebuild? Can the Predators rely on Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg while the Calgary Flames look to Jonathan Huberdeau and Jacob Markstrom? What do Jess Belmosto, Jeff Middleton and Bryan Bastin have to say about all of it? The Calgary Flames can take a few notes from the Nashville Predators and give their young players actual ice time and allow them to develop. What does the future look like for Jakob Pellitier and Matthew Coronato? How can the Preds make the most out of Matt Duchene's buyout and the Shea Webber contract? Two points. Two points. The Calgary Flames miss the playoffs by 2 points. The long and grueling season of 30 1-goal game losses is over. Matthew Coronato and Dustin Wolf gave Flames fans a look into the future in their NHL debut against the San Jose Sharks. There is a lot to be hopeful for. The Stars of tomorrow are discovered here, Every Wednesday former NHL GM, Stanley Cup Champion and Director of Scouting with TSN, Craig Button and I explore prospects for the NHL Draft. Craig has revealed his Top 32 for the 2021 draft with a top 40 to come later one and we zeroed in on three players that made the grade. Matthew Coronato has been getting a lot of buzz in the UFHL and NHL scouting communities and rightfully so. A terrific goal scorer who is off to Harvard University. Sebastian Cossa is one of three goalies who made Craig's top 32 and his numbers were incredible with the EDMONTON OIL KINGS this season. He looks like a goalie, not the Michelin Man in net and he makes saves as opposed to just letting the puck bounce off him like a trampoline. Dylan Guenther is Sebastian's teammate in Edmonton and at one point was touted as a potential #1 overall pick for 2021 and while Craig still sees him as a top line player, he might be more of a complimentary top line player, who will still go very high in July. We also discussed Owen Power and Cole Perfetti heading to the World Championship with Canada and I asked if Shane Wright should have been invited?Craig joins us each week courtesy of the UFFS Hotline, become a scout and track the same players Craig and other scouts do, join up at www.UFFSports.com and get paid for your eagle eye when it comes to future stars.
