We live in a country where there are more guns than citizens. 433 million registered guns in the USA. The culture of violence has become the norm. The false values of corruption, Competion, rivalry, unkindness,  ignornace  and inhumanity are on the rise. The only way we can turn this tide around is through shifting our individual sense of value and esteem to Ahimsa- the timeless value of being a human being.   Choosing to live in Ahimsa means choosing non violence, non-injury, and doing the work to cultivating inner harmony. Exposing or revealing dark thoughts, dark words, violent actions we give ourselves permission to open to healing our inner angst when we use these dark moments to shift our thinking, belief system away from the Otherness the binary, the duality is us/them that creates so much pain. For thirty five years Maya Tiwari has been teaching the inviolate  work of awareness through the way of Ahimsa.   Maya  has personally helped thousands to heal, and continue with her own courageous journey as she muses about "ahimsa" from a very personal point of view. Join us and absorb the wisdom of modern sage Maya Tiwari as she shares insightful perspectives on how to connect to an authentic approach to spiritual practice or sadhana. Fondly called Mother Maya, spiritual pioneer Maya Tiwari is an international teacher of Ayurveda and the founder of the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, the first of its kind in North America. Author of several bestselling books in Ayurveda and self-healing, she has been trained in the Vedas, Vedanta, Ayurveda, Sanskrit and Vedic Chants by Sri Swami Dayananda Sarasvati, and in Ashtanga Yoga and The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by Dr. Narasimha Rao. Maya served for two decades as a Vedic monk, belonging to India's prestigious Veda Vyasa lineage. In 2010, she made the radical decision to renounce her monastic title. This decision was made, as she puts it, to “walk a simpler and more accessible life in service of the populations in need” which she continues to do to this day. Maya shares the journey from her early years in Guyana, abruptly contrasted with her arrival in the hustle of New York's fashion scene. We discuss her battle with ovarian cancer, which served as a catalyst for a monumental shift in her life's direction; an exploration of Vedic wisdom, the deeper connections between our health and our lineage, and the power of ancestral memories, which she believes carry both the weight of past traumas and the potential for holistic healing. Maya fondly recalls her disciplined studies in Rishikesh, India with Vedic scholar Sri Swami Dayananda Sarasvati, sharing the transformative effect of Sanskrit chanting and the purifying rituals that have been integral to her path of self-realization. Maya speaks of how we never teach what we don't need to learn ourselves. The complexities of healing from trauma, she insists, require a compassionate approach that honors the wisdom of our ancestors while discerning which aspects to carry forward on our unique path. Finally, we converge on the simple yet profound practices of self-love and ahimsa. Maya illuminates the path to tranquility, emphasizing the significance of pausing in our frenetic existence, the powerful simplicity of conscious breathing, creating an inner sanctuary amidst life's tumult, and the perennial wisdom of letting go. Maya established the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda in 1981, with the vision of restoring the long-lost Inner Medicine principles and practices of Ayurveda. Her global conferences and workshops have touched the life of more than 1 million participants. For thirty years, she has inspired and created change in human behaviour, through education, outreach, and service to humankind.mayatiwari.comLiked what you heard? Help us reach more people! Today, I received the shocking news about an old friend.  She is an elderly mother who was evicted from her home by her one and only son and daughter-in-law.  At  every turn of life, we can come face to face with bitter  lessons, and the hearless actions of those who facilitate them.  During these times, it seems equally heartless to console the aggrevieved with words like, " remember the good days you shared, remember to keep your heart consoled by being grateful for the multitude of good things in your life, and not focus exclusiviley on the bitterness of the day." This too may seem like cruel advice given the tired moment while despairing. But....the way to healing all suffering  is through remembering gratitude. It is easy to be grateful for the kindness shown to us, for gifts of friends and joyful occasions.  But in the most important juncture of our lives, when the darkness of despair can shroud  hearts and souls, or during the lonely hours of despair, disillusionment, and/or disease when hope wanes, and support appears to be non-existent, and kindness cannot be felt, all is not lost: We have the way of gratitude to turn to, a conduit that for millions of years have been the proven way to recapture inner space, to stretch open the amity of our innate awareness, to lighten the burdens of the heart and to simply connect back to a universe that can never forsake us........a beautiful exposition by the one and only, Maya Tiwari, on the power of gratitude during the darkest of days. Support the showMay Peace Be Your Journey~www.mayatiwari.comwww.facebook.com/mayatiwariahimsa.Buzzsprout.com

By Spring, her health and vitality had been restored. Inspired by dramatic visions and dreams of her family and ancestors, Bri. All sounds are birthed from the cosmic sound vibration, the most conscious being the human voice.  The voice is a primary conduit to gaining awareness; consciousness being the innate potential that only humans possess.  Albeit, it is said in the Vedas that we use only the fourth quarter of the voice's potential based on the Whole Quadrant of intelligence that is contained in the field of cosmic sound.Words, speech, language~indeed, all sounds of the universe, compose the medley of conscious existence, From the lofty tremor of the human voice to the quiver of rustling leaves, to the "oooming" melody of the cows, the "drumming" oscillation of the fishes, the sizzling of the stones' fissures, the sussurus of the wind across the meadow, each living thing on this Earth has a sound-language of its own, articulate and audible within their tribe. How do we use our voice to access the entirety of the quadrant of cosmic intelligence?  Listen In, as the one and only, Maya Tiwari espouses.........Support the show (http://paypal.me/wiseearth)

Maya Tiwari presents an Ayurvedic Perspective:The Immunity of Mother Earth is threatened, and therefore all of life is at risk. The degree of fragility we are experiencing mirrors that of the Earth.  To restore sentiency and calmness to Self, we must first off strengthen the immunity of Mother Earth. This can only be achieved if we live in harmony with our Conscience. Our humanity depends solely on the well-being of Mother Earth, Mother Nature. Mother Earth is fragile~ we are fragile. We must be conscious of not aligning with the pervasive, random web of fears that presently surround our Earth! We must strengthen our resolve; Simplify our everyday lives, Lessen the use of Mother Nature's Resources; Give back to the Earth; Comfort those who are in dire need of support.  Pray for Mother Earth. Be good to Mother Earth. Be good to ourselves. Re-align with Mother Moon. Practice Simple Sadhanas. Vocalize Mantras. Weep with Mother Earth. Hug her trees. Sit with your feet in her streams. Consider the idea that life itself emanates from sound, for what is sound but audible breath, the rhythm and melody of the One spirit that dwells within all things? Sound vibration is a manifestation of life energy, and that life energy, or prana, is the basis for self-healing.Every cell, memory and tissue is formed from the cosmic sound. Sound Medicine is our natural inner medicine, free and abundantly available in nature. Indeed, sound is central to the very act of creation. Vedic lore tells us that Goddess Durga rode her lion, carried her damaru (a small, double-headed drum whose sound is associated with the element of space), and drummed the world into existence. In practicing Sadhana, wholesome activity that are in consonance with Mother Nature and our environment, we are continually replenishing the "inner medicine" resource we have within.  We  can heal ourselves . Maya has been shifting humanity's perceptions for more than three decades with her pioneering work in ancient Vedic wisdom. The summation of this remarkable episode is, simply: Milk as wholesome food must be preserved! We have been destroying our domesticated animals, our forest, waters and air, and all of Mother Nature.  We became alienated from our roots—the wellspring of our ancestral, seasonal, geographical, and archeological ground, and a primary source for nourishing the body, mind, and spirit of each individual culture. In turn, this fractured ancestral bedrock has affected our relationship to the land, seasons, rains, vegetation, crops, nature's rhythms, our animals and therefore, our connection to the state of wholesome, simplified living.  Noxious farming and agriculture, polluted industry and commerce, scientific mishaps, along with the barrage of electronic inventions and their effects upon our food, water, air, and etheric (vibrational field) source have adversely impacted our nourishment, resulting in a host of new degenerative, neurological, and environmental diseases: a vicious cycle especially when we respond by creating movements that supposedly serve the already over-served, and the excessive of elitism. Support the show (http://paypal.me/wiseearth)

She recommends an Ayurveda consultation as a first step but some of her clients come to massage first. Ayurveda massage uses lots of warm oil which is very grounding. The focus of the work is with energy and the lymphatic system which is purifying and detoxifying. These massages can be customized to your own constitution. These massages differ from other massages in that they are deeply relaxing and grounding. So much so that Tesia recommends taking it easy for the rest of the day after. An Abhyanga massage will work on the subtle body and use lots of oil rubbed over the entire body. A Shirodhara massage will have a constant stream of oil poured over the forehead. "That treatment {Shirodhara}, you are laying on the table, the oil is streaming down consistently. It's almost like a mother gently rubbing her hand over a child's head." Tesia's journey to her current work started as a life-long passion and curiosity of all things health and wellness. She found out about Ayurveda in 2000 and was interested in it for it's ability to getting to the root cause of ailments. In 2010, she completed her 200-hour Yoga teacher training and started studying with the California College of Ayurveda in 2011. A Charlotte native, Tesia moved back in 2014 and completed Massage Therapy School at TMTI. Currently, she is finishing up her 300-hour Yoga teacher training with Lisa Moore, focused on Ayurveda Therapeutic Yoga. Tesia describes Ayurveda as comprehensive. It takes in account what you eat, your lifestyle, how you eat, what time you go to bed and wake up, herbs, bodywork, and yogic practices. Ayurveda comes from nature and considers the 5 elements(ether, air, fire, water, and earth) the building blocks of life. Each Dosha(vata, pitta, kapha) are made up of 2 elements. Vata is the quality of movement; dryness, coldness, circulation, elimination, thoughts. Pitta is the quality of transformation; metabolism, digestion. Kapha is the quality of heaviness; cohesion, growth, building. She describes the process of Doshas getting into excess and that is where imbalances are formed and using opposites to heal. For example, warm oil and slow strokes with a massage can counteract a Vata imbalance. "That's a huge motivation behind my work is helping to empower people to be well so they can do what it is they are here to do." Tesia is one of the few people in Charlotte who do this work. She is passionate about working with women and their health; fertility, postpartum, perimenopause). She has specialized training in Pregnancy and Postpartum massage. Many practitioners have been influential in her work over the years including: Dr. Andrew Weil, an Integrative Medical Doctor, Dr. Lad, an Ayurveda Doctor in New Mexico, Deepak Chopra, Maya Tiwari, focused on women's health, and KP Khalsa, an herbalist. In the Charlotte community, Tesia is inspired by Gracienne Jean Pierre who is a Nurse Practioner and Integrative Health Consultant, Lisa Moore who is a therapeutic Yoga teacher and Ayurveda Practioner, and The Sanctuary in the City organization who make wellness resources available to the Black and Indigenous populations. Welcome to The Ayurveda Glow Podcast. I'm so happy you're here! I'm your host, Katrina, an Ayurvedic Health Counselor and former web developer turned full-time holistic wellness & plant-based nutrition advocate based in Santa Monica, California. This podcast is focused on how we can optimize our health and our lives holistically, glow from the inside out, and experience our full potential. I'll be sharing with you what I'm learning in the areas of plant-based nutrition, meditation, exercise, sleep, emotions, and holistic mind-body approaches to optimal health. I aim to explore each of these areas through the lens of Ayurveda. If you are new to Ayurveda and wondering what it's all about, this episode is for you. Let's dive in! Okay, so what is Ayurveda? Ayurveda is one of the oldest holistic medical systems in the world, originating in India over 5000 years ago. For thousands of years, Ayurveda has acted as a preventive medicine, offering a body of wisdom designed to help us stay healthy so that they we may realize our full human potential. The word Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit words "Ayur" which means "life" and "Veda" which means "science" or "knowledge". Ayurveda, therefore, is a science of life. A fun fact to know is that Ayurveda is also known as the “sister science of yoga”. Yes, Both yoga and Ayurveda share the same foundation, both having come from the Vedas, the oldest books in the world. In the West, we often think of yoga as a practice designed to support the body and physical wellbeing but as I learned years ago during my yoga teacher training, the purpose and aim of yoga – which means “union” in Sanskrit – is oneness. Yoga was created to help us access our Higher Self and cultivate higher consciousness. Meanwhile, the science of Ayurveda was developed for healing purposes with the aim to keep the physical body healthy so that we can pursue our dreams and experience our full potential. After all, we know that when we're sick, lacking energy, or feeling unwell, it's challenging to focus on anything else other than simply getting better. A question that often comes up is, “How is Ayurveda different from modern Western medicine?” This is a great question. The main difference is that the Western medicine approach is to focus on treating the disease instead of the whole person and treats the symptoms of a condition instead of the root cause. Western medicine is focused on alleviating the symptoms so that we feel better as soon as possible. Ayurveda, on the other hand, considers the whole person - mind, body and spirit - and aims to address the root cause of the disease or imbalance. In addition, Ayurveda recognizes that: Mind-Body Connection: The mind and body are connected. And – one of the most powerful ways to transform the body is through the power of the conscious mind. We are each unique: Every individual is unique and there is no diet or lifestyle routine that works for everyone. Prevention is key: Prevent the disease (don't just treat the symptoms). Fix the root of the condition. We are connected to nature: We thrive when we align with the rhythms of Nature. This understanding that we are each unique – in body, personality, lifestyle, environment and other factors – is one of the things I appreciate most about Ayurveda. There's no one-size-fits-all diet or one healing treatment in Ayurveda. Instead, Ayurveda promotes personalized treatment, based on the unique constitution of each individual and the unique nature of the illness. Treatment plans in Ayurveda are tailored to each person so that balance can be restored. When it comes to treatment, another difference between modern, western medicine and Ayurveda is that Western medicine often relies on surgery or prescription medication. Treatments in Ayurveda, on the other hand, focus on restoring balance by engaging all five senses. An Ayurvedic treatment approach may include diet and herbalism, aromatherapy, color therapy, sound therapy, and touch therapy. Among the most powerful tools used to restore mind-body balance in Ayurveda are: Meditation Yoga Nutrition Movement & daily exercise Abundant, restful sleep Herbal medicine Color therapy Oils for internal and external use (essential oils, massage, healthy cooking oils, etc.) So how do you know when to embrace western, modern medicine and when to embrace Ayurveda? The good news is that we can tap into both western medicine and Ayurveda, depending on each situation. There's a place for both and for this, I'm so grateful. Western medicine is ideal when there's an emergency or life-threatening crisis. In these cases, modern medicine can save your life. Ayurveda is best practiced as daily preventative medicine. With Ayurveda, we're empowered to take wellness into our own hands through choices we can control like diet, lifestyle, exercise and thoughts. I'm excited to share more in future episodes. For now, I'll sign off with these inspiring words from humanitarian and Ayurvedic pioneer, Maya Tiwari, who wrote, “Ayurveda is not just about nutrition or herbology, it has a unique tool for diagnosis, diagnosis of understanding the human constitution is different from person to person. Each one has a unique metabolic system.” Thank you for joining me today. I hope you enjoyed this episode. Today I have the pleasure of speaking with spiritual guru and Founder of the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, Maya Tiwari. Our conversation takes us into the realm of cyclical wisdom vs. linear thought. How do we allow our intuition to move us back into a place of deep awareness, connecting us to our Shakti, our creative selves, and our consciousness once again. In order to reclaim this wholesome, cyclical nature of ourselves we need to simplify our lives and look to nature to source our energy and power. Tune in today and for a truly unique and grounding podcast and learn about the importance of life cycles and rebirthing your creativity.   What you’ll get out of tuning in: Why is reclaiming our cyclical wisdom so important to our physiology, our consciousness, our awareness How to we move back towards the knowledge of nature and what serves us Cutting out stressors we’ve acquired and simplifying our lives   Links Mentioned in Episode: Maya's website Maya Tiwari’s book- Food for One, Food for all Be a coach Have a conversation Discover more about Body Thrive  Body Thrive Book   Show Highlights: 1:30- Maya Tiwari tells us a bit about her life and how she arrived to where she presently resides, physically, mentally, and spiritually. We discuss the importance of phases and cycles of life and how to allow a cyclicial wisdom back into our consciousness and our physiology. 23:00 - The medicine of Mother Nature and its relation to simplifying our lives. To be simply creative again by delayering ourselves, we sometimes have to take a step to clarify who we are now and continue to grow. 38:00- The meaning and significance of the moon and its’ connection to women’s monthly cycle; there are certain activities that are in the dark phase of the moon that allow us, as women, to recreate the sanctity that we need within ourselves. We should ask ourselves, ‘what can we orient towards’ instead of ‘what do we have to give up’? 55:40- I ask Mother Maya about her experience in writing books and how her own creative cycle matures; how does she know when it is time to write and when it is time to edit?   Favorite Quotes: “It’s not about going out and getting something new; it’s more about reawakening what is already within us.” - Cate Stillman “We can’t create without calling upon our Shakti. And when we create we enlarge her, we grow her, we mature her. “ - Maya Tiwari “There has always been an amazing universal truth to everything we do. There is a time and a place for everything. And that is what we ignore in a linear culture.”  - Maya Tiwari   Guest BIO: Maya established the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda in 1981, with the vision of restoring the long lost Inner Medicine® principles and practices of Ayurveda. Wise Earth is the first school for Ayurveda education in North America, through which Maya has personally trained hundreds of practitioners from a vast geographical area. In 2010, Maya made the radical decision to renounce her monastic title and spiritual moniker-Her Holiness, Sri Swami Mayatitananda. This decision was made to, as she puts it, "walk a simpler and more accessible life in service of the populations in need," which she continues to do to this day. Connect with Maya on her website and facebook page.

Finding your feminine essence in a masculine world is not an easy feat. It’s a discovery, it’s a curiosity. As women, regardless of sexual orientation, we carry a watery nature, an essence, a juiciness and creativity that has been given to us by nature. We can create and birth a human being. Menstruation is one way the body expresses that power. Amenorrhea, or the absence of menses, during a time in our lives when we are expected to have it aka when we are not postmenopausal, is a sign of imbalance. A sign, that points toward something undiscovered. Kristen so thoughtfully shares how she is peeling away the layers to find her feminine essence; how she willingly sets her PhD-achiever-self aside and embraces the softness and flow of the feminine.   Your feminine essence is already there. You just need to find it.   What you get from tuning in: What living in your feminine feels like How to tap into your watery, unctuous, feminine nature Why menstruating is divine and important even if you don’t want to have children Practices to step into your feminine essence The “Art of Pause Meditation” by Maya Tiwari   Stop deciding how to move your body.
