Singer-songwriter Sarah Blacker is back with a new EP, “Horizon Line” “Horizon Line,” Sarah Blacker's new studio EP is described as a “raw, stripped down and vulnerable, just the way she wanted it to be.” Recorded (mostly) live and mixed at Boston Music Award-winning producer, Sean McLaughlin's 37' Productions studios, it was performed and co-produced by Blacker and her husband, Aaron Z. Katz (Percy Hill, the Dejas). The Only Way Out is Through. Mike and Tim spend some time unpacking a couple listener emails that deal with hopelessness and worship. This prompts Mike to revisit Walter Bruggeman's typology: a. Psalms can be roughly grouped this way, and the flow of human life characteristically is located either in the actual experience of one of these settings, or is in the movement from one to another. b. This is not a formula, or rigid divide of categories; some Psalms do not seem to fit and some seem to have all 3 points. - Psalms of orientation (guaranteed creation) -- life is good (Psalm 145) - Psalms of disorientation (songs of disarray) – life hurts (Psalm 13) - Psalms of reorientation (songs of surprising new life) – there is hope in the darkness (Psalm 30) As always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. Some of Us Are Brave. Un podcast à écouter, de préférence, au casque.Réalisation : Benjamin SarraliéMixage 3D : Fabien MugneretProduction : RFI LaboFacebook / Instagram / YouTube Titres diffusés :► Extraits de Some Of Us Are Brave (Future Classic - 2022) : Some Of Us Are Brave ; So Long ; Someone Like You ; Only The Lonely ; The Only Way Out ; Thoughts; Fray; Darker Than Blue ; Poor Mans Pain; Radiohead Creep Cover.

The Only Way Out is The Only Way In - David Hoffmeister, Lisa Fair, and Frances Xu gather with the Interns at La Casa De MilagrosThere are many people that have tried to renounce the world in words. Stop the world, I want to get off now! They think if I just renounce it enough, it will disappear, but we really don't escape this world by renouncing it verbally. We have to value Christ so much that we welcome Christ to live in our hearts. And as we welcome Christ to live in our hearts, we start to realize that the value of the love that God has for us is more important than anything we could value in the world. We actually have to forgive and that's the central teaching of Jesus as well as remembering your Creator. David, Lisa, and Frances continue their Wednesday morning gathering with the interns at La Casa de Milagros. "In divorce, we are dealing with the most raw emotions regarding a significant other and children. It's scary. And in such a confusing and emotional time, they need someone who will tell it to them straight.” - Laura Wasser What is the most common reason that marriages end in divorce? What was it like having “America's most feared divorce lawyer” for a father? How do Laura and her staff set boundaries with high profile clients? Why did Laura start the online divorce platform It's Over Easy? What should someone with wealth who is unhappy in their marriage do if they don't have a prenup? The Only Way Out is Through For nearly 20 years, divorce attorney Laura Wasser has represented some of the highest profile celebrities — from Kim Kardashian to Dr. Dre. But what sets Laura's practice apart is her dedication to discretion and empathy for all involved. Based in Los Angeles, her compassion extends beyond high net worth clientele. Laura began It's Over Easy, a digital platform that offers an affordable option for couples going through divorce. Laura is also the author of “It Doesn't Have To Be That Way: How to Divorce Without Destroying Your Family or Bankrupting Yourself.” On this episode, we tap into Laura's vast knowledge to uncover why most marriages end in divorce and get sage advice on how to help prevent separation. We also dive into the world of celebrity family law, how Laura got her start, and cultivating a culture of discretion. Speaking Truth In the art of communication, Laura is a master craftsman. The most agile and effective tool we all possess in relationships is often the hardest to master. Honest communication of raw truths can feel emotionally charged and pose a challenge, even for the fiercest among us. But Laura advises that practicing clear and direct communication is for the best — from the courtroom to the bedroom. Establishing boundaries with her high-net-worth clients allows Laura to cleanly separate the personal from the professional — a challenging task in family law. She does not offer advice or a shoulder to cry on. Laura prepares her clients frankly and honestly, even with clients who are used to being told “yes.” Key takeaways: Less is more. Quotes can be misconstrued. Stories can be spun out of nothing. To avoid missteps with the media, say less. Always clarify. Lay out arguments that lead to the logical and desired conclusion. Never assume all parties share the same knowledge. Be kind. It costs attorneys and clients nothing extra and may result in a favorable resolution in less time. Situated in Toronto, Canada, she lives with her family and is the owner and principal copywriter of Striking Content, a content writing and strategizing business. Her life has been rich with a breadth of experience ranging from competitive sport and travel, to academics and entrepreneurship, to motherhood and the pursuit of dreams. Katie writes with intent and purpose to make her readers feel, learn and do. It is her hope and her vision that, through her writing, she may be the ink that dots the lives of others in a positive and meaningful way. An anti-bullying advocate and never one to shy away from voicing her opinion, Katie wrote this story to open the eyes of our youth today, not only to see what bullying and mental health struggles can amount to, but also what each of us is capable of when presented with an opportunity to talk. I had the joy of interviewing Katie on my show and was really taken by her new book "The Only Way Out" and her knowledge base about bullying, and the dynamic between bullies and victims. The Only Way Out is a novel for youth and young adults. As motivational as it is emotional, the book addresses two important social issues: bullying and mental health. Written to touch hearts and inspire change, The Only Way Out is rooted in an empowering message to TALK. She dedicates the book to her two beautiful children – but also someone else very important: Amanda Todd. When she was putting her book into print, she sought out Carol Todd, Amanda's mother, and asked for her permission. and she is now humbled and honored to have her book dedicated to Amanda. Amanda was a victim of bullying who unfortunately took her own life. Katie donates part of all book sales to the Amanda Todd Legacy Society. This week's host is Laetitia Tamko, better known as Vagabon. Born in Cameroon and growing up in New York City, Vagabon's music fuses pop, indie and punk. Her debut album Infinite Worlds was released in 2017, taking influence from a huge span of genres, everything from post-punk to dream pop. She performs in both English and French, and recently released a track with Courtney Barnett. She's joined by Ethiopian-American singer, songwriter and producer Mereba. She released her debut record The Jungle is the Only Way Out in 2019, and has since collaborated with 6lack, J.I.D and other breakout artists from America's exciting hip-hop and R&B scenes. Vieux Farka Touré is the son of legendary Malian guitarist Ali Farka Touré, and has carved out his own legacy as a musician, taking influence from West African rhythms, blues, and rock. Finally, Mary Lattimore is a harpist from Los Angeles who has played alongside Thurston Moore, Jarvis Cocker, and Kurt Vile. Her music takes simple components, often just a harp and loop pedal, and creates vast, experimental soundscapes.

Anthony “Prem” Carlisi and Heather “Radha” Carlisi came together as a teaching team in Sri Lanka in 2007.  Soon afterwards they taught through Northern Europe and realized that together their combined energies created an even more powerful synergy. Prem had begun writing his book “The Only Way Out is In” in 2006, and with Radha’s help he completed the project in 2007. In 2008, they decided to explore Bali and quickly discovered that Ubud was their new OM away from home. The Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute was born in Ubud in 2009. Prem and Radha both had the good fortune to study with Guruji personally for many years. They maintain the traditional system as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, their beloved Guruji who passed away in May 2009. Prem began learning from Guruji back in 1978. Radha’s Ashtanga journey began by studying with Chuck Miller in 1990 followed by her first trip to Mysore in 1995. They bring to their teaching the individualization that Krishnamacharya taught and passed to Guruji. Working in a personable way, they make the needs of each individual student a priority. Prem is considered a “Doctor of Ayurveda” from his teacher Dr.Vasant Lad and has maintained a deep connection to the practice of Ayurveda as a lifestyle. Radha also has a deep interest in Ayurveda, particularly in the area of food and nutrition. She has studied with Maya Tiwari and Amadea Morningstar and she credits Paul Pitchford , the author of Healing with Whole Foods, as being a big inspiration. She shares her love of Ayurvedic cooking on a regular basis with cooking classes and as nutritional guidance in consultations. You can find them on their website at www.ashtangayogabali.com

It's a beautiful way to navigate these times... --- Anthony ‘Prem’ Carlisi and Heather ‘Radha’ Carlisi first came together as a teaching team in Sri Lanka in 2007. They felt a powerful synergy between their combined energy as teachers, which led them to continue to teach together internationally. They were married in 2013. In December 2008 they travelled to Bali, where in November 2009 they established the Ashtanga Yoga Bali Research Center (AYBRC). In their shala they teach in the tradition of K. Pattabhi Jois, with whom they both studied for many years. Prem first travelled to Mysore to study in 1978, and Radha in 1995 having begun her study of Ashtanga yoga with Chuck Miller in 1990. Following the example set by Krishnamacharya, they adapt their teaching to the individual needs of each student. They also apply their knowledge Ayurveda to their unique teaching style, blending the elements of Ashtanga yoga and Ayurveda to help students to achieve a balanced lifestyle well beyond their asana practise. Prem and Radha have many shared at AYBRC. You can find out more about their teaching schedule here.     Finding Humility Together - Prem and Radha Carlisi    In this moving conversation Scott, Prem and Radha share intimate and tender memories of their friendship over the past 12 years. Prem and Radha are deeply open and honest about how their relationship managed the passing of Prem's daughter Shanti in 2012 and how they navigated people coming to their Yoga Shala in Bali and their own yoga practices. We are left with hope.... In this deeply moving conversation Prem & Radha share: The challenges they’ve faced running a Mysore shala from Bali during the COVID-19 pandemic. How Scott contacted Prem in 2008 after reading ‘The Only Way Out is In’, and ended up hosting both Prem and Radha for a London workshop. Prem’s motivation for writing his book - to share his perspective as a ‘regular guy’ so that people would know that yoga is accessible to anyone. That after Radha’s first yoga class - which she found in the Yellow Pages - she told the teacher (Chuck Miller) that she was going to be a yoga teacher. About the incredible support Radha has given Prem in his work and in his personal life. About how they set up Ashtanga Yoga Bali together, and how it felt like everything was falling into place for them.  That everything collapsed in 2013 with the death of Prem’s daughter, Shanti. How they managed to keep the shala open, with crowds coming to see them, while struggling to come to terms with this tragic loss.  The thoughtless comments that Prem received about how, as a long term yogi, he should be able to deal with grief. How grief forces a deeper perspective to Ashtanga yoga practise beyond the physical.  That teaching - being able to give to others - can be a solace, and that suffering can bring empathy. The sense of humbling humiliation that Prem felt, in the face of such grief after this life-changing loss, despite external material successes.   Their intentions around organising Ashtanga yoga conferences, hoping to keep the community connected after K. Pattabhi Jois died.  The responsibility that senior teachers have to pass on the subtler layers of practise that move beyond the physical. About why Ashtanga yoga is a constant process of discovery, rather than a static set of rules.  How important it is to meet all students as individuals, and that teaching this way becomes a dance.  That an ‘advanced’ practise isn’t necessary to experience the principles of Ashtanga yoga practise: breath, bandha, and  drishti.  The relationship between the ethereal aspects of practise and how they relate to our physical being. Learning to dance with the people in our lives and with ourselves: Nataraja, Shiva, the aspect of life and death.  How Prem’s practise has become more contemplative over time, spending hours in meditation. How Radha has become more forgiving of herself, and that in finding more freedom in her practise she has a better understanding of who she is, rather than who she thinks she’s supposed to be.       ‘'I've been wanting to have this conversation with my dear friends Prem and Radha since I started the Stillpoints Podcast. It is one of the tenderest and most open conversations I have had and I loved the candid honesty that both Prem and Radha bring. They share how they have navigated grief together and that this is now the foundation of their relationship. We're left with a sense of hope. That it's a dance... Title -What You Resist Persists and The Only Way Out is Through Our collective challenge these days is a constant flow of difficult information that pulls us out of the present moment.  Sometimes we think about things and anticipate different outcomes, none of which may ever happen. For many, this leads to a sense of fear or foreboding that is a constant backdrop to our everyday lives. By exploring the awareness of fear and the underlying components of the fear - perhaps fear can be transformed into love. Fear makes senses from an evolutionary and survival perspective but many things that cause fear and distress aren’t going to happen – so dwelling in it decreases the potential for a full and rich human experience. And, if something bad happens, we will deal with it then. This episode is about the courage to face these things as they are, using the old adage- what you resist persists and the only way out is through.  Connecting to an inner calm, returning home to an inner presence, a new path, a different way  emerges that is lead by peace, joy, love and generosity.

Our next guest is on a quest. A poet from Brooklyn, Jess DeJesus spins words together and lays them over production as the musical artist Aura. Short for Always Understand and Revive Affinity, Aura's journey toward understanding pulls us into a conversation about expression, growth and finding a place you can call home. Growing up as a single child left Aura with an outsider's perspective, searching for community but never feeling truly at home within one. On the General Side we catch up with Aura and her learn a little bit history (she used to be a dancer) and about the nuances between poetry and song. On the Specific Side, Aura breaks down how the communities around her inspire her to build a community of her own. We chat about what it means to fit in and how that search ultimately leads to growth. Of course, if you haven't listened to her music, please give it a spin.
