Included in this episode are most of the records for this season, some cool moments, safety issues, and the Mt. Everest weather. Sometimes, you also have to talk about the unpleasant stuff too, and I talk about the New York Times article that made allegations against Nirmal Purja, ropegate and some of his other decisions made this climbing season at Everest. Next week's episode will be about David Brashears and his contribution to the mountaineering community and Mt. Diving into the story, lessons, and greatness of Nims Purja from his book: Beyond Possible-----1:20 - The doubters In 2019, an article on the Red Bull website said my goal as an unknown climber was as likely as a “swim to the moon.” Still, I believed it.2:00 - Why do the impossible? But for me, it was an opportunity to prove the world that everything, anything, was possible if you dedicated your heart and mind to a plan7:20 - Make your goals your God15:20 - The Impossible GoalSo rather than climbing the five tallest mountains in the 80 days, what was stopping me from topping all 14 death zone mountains in the quickest time imaginable? I struggled to think of too many pitfalls. Only politics or money. Or maybe an avalanche or a crevasse, if I'm really unluckyThe goal of shaving off an entire seven years from the world record was wildly ambitious, but I quickly embraced the idea. The bottom line was to climb as quickly as possible, whatever the weather, Nims style17:40 - How to make the right decisionThe man who wishes to keep at a problem long enough to really learn anything positively must not take dangerous risks. Carelessness and overconfidence are usually more dangerous than deliberately accepted risks.20:25 - Nine lessons from Project PossibleWhen trying to negotiate with pain, I often worked to create a bigger more controllable hurt, one that would shut out the first: replacing an agony beyond my control. My biggest concern throughout the mission was not finishing, either through weakness or dying. So I used the potential consequences of failure as a way of not quitting. I pictured the disappointed people who had once looked to my project for inspiration, or the joking doubters who could inevitably make comments in inerviews and call me out online. Imagining their faces fired me up.You're not going to get to your dream by just fantasizing about it. But if you make it your ultimate goal, or god, and give yourself to it entirely, there's a good chance it will come your way…The job had become my church, and I invested all my efforts in it. Disguising my pain and suffering was a skill I practiced at all times, and I did so by focusing intensely on the job at hand; it helped to shut out the chaos around me. Since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, AI has seldom been out of the news. Such is the pace of change, it can feel difficult to keep up. But how is L&D actually using this technology? What do learning professionals perceive as the benefits of AI, and what are the barriers to implementation? In this week's episode of The Mind Tools L&D Podcast, Ross Dickie and Owen Ferguson are joined by Donald Taylor to discuss a report he co-authored with Egle Vinauskaite, which seeks to answer some of these questions. We discuss: · The current state of play of AI in L&D, · The expected benefits of using AI in L&D, · The technological and business barriers to deploying AI in organizations. To read the full report, AI in L&D: The State of Play, head to Don's website.
Kristin Harila is a Norwegian mountaineer, skier, and outdoor athlete. In 2022, her record-breaking attempt to summit all 14 of the world's 8000-meter peaks in six months was brought to a disappointing end as her team failed to obtain permits for the final two mountains in Chinese Tibet. Despite the setback, Kristen is more determined than ever this year to take on the record again set by Nirmal Purja in 2019. In this episode, Kristin talks with Richard about her successes and failures during the 2022 attempt, her dramatic introduction to mountaineering - from altitude sickness on Kilimanjaro to taking on Everest for the first time - and reveals her personal superpower for enduring pain for extended periods during her climbs. You can follow Kristin's adventures on Twitter (@kristin_harila) and Instagram (kristin.harila).To find out more, visit: kristinharila.com***This episode is brought to you by Kase Filters. Vadsøværingen Kristin Harila (36) prøvde i fjor å sette rekord i å klatre alle 14 toppene på over 8000 meter.
Marta in her own words: “My name is Marta and I come from a small town in Poland called Pila. Growing up I was raised by a single mum; I had a good but humble upbringing, I always loved the outdoors and hanging out with my friends. My childhood in Poland was a happy time in my life, but after my first trip to London as a teenager it all changed. I realised very quickly that living in Poland wasn't for me anymore; I had big dreams and ambitions that I knew I couldn't pursue in my hometown. I spent one more year living in Poland, learning English and saving ready to finally enter the ‘big world'… then I moved to London. Taking this chance opened up so many opportunities for me. I got a good degree, good job, I travelled the world and had some awesome adventures whilst doing so, that I've decided to share them here. So, here I am, writing my blog, hoping to inspire and invite you on my journey. My love for travelling has grown immensely over the years. The more countries I saw, the more countries I wanted to see. Along the way, my style of travelling changed; I had even bigger accomplishments on my agenda. So I set myself two goals: to climb to the highest peak on each continent, the challenge known as 7 Summits; and to reach the highest peak of each European country, which I call The Crown of Europe. Out of the 7 Summits, I've already completed 5 (the highest peak in Europe, Africa, North and South America, Antarctica) and I am getting ready to attempt another one later this year… Everest. I am extremely excited about it as this is also the last continent I still haven't seen. The second goal is to reach the highest peak of each European country, which I call The Crown of Europe There are 50 countries but 48 peaks and I have already completed 17 of them. However, this leaves plenty of adventure still ahead…” *This episode was recorded in 20th January 2022 - Marta summited Everest 6.25am on May 15th, 2022. We've mentioned “the race to the home” numerous times on this podcast. Today, our guest will help us understand what it means to deliver care in the home. With us is Dan Trigub, Co-founder and CEO of MedArrive, a company that is delivering preventive care in the home. Dan will share MedArrive's approach and how and why it has been successful not only in preventing unnecessary admissions and trips the ER, but also how MedArrive has been successful in engaging marginalized individuals. Usually when I state that someone has prior healthcare experience, you may wonder for which health plan, health system or another provider did he or she work. Dan worked for Uber and Lyft in their healthcare divisions. While those may not be the credentials you are expecting when you hear “healthcare experience,” it is exactly the experience needed when you think about in-home delivery of care because these companies deeply understood the concept of a platform, logistics and engagement. League of Wildness, I just finished listening to Nims Purja on Joe Rogan. Nims' film "14 Peaks" is a must-watch for any dedicated LoW member and I'd highly recommend the Rogan podcast as well. Nims completed what everyone else thought was absolutely impossible - climbing the 14 highest peaks in the world in a span of six months. He beat the previous record by several years. He's a wildman. Listening to Nims share his journey made me reflect. Yes - he did something incredible that was thought to be impossible. But haven't we all done things we thought were impossible? To me - the difference is in the magnitude versus the absolute difficulty. If we took the time to really think about times we had to push beyond what we thought was possible, no matter how small or trivial it might seem, we are capable of much much more. It's more about how hard something was for you as the individual instead of trying to quantify difficulty on an absolute level. Thanks for listening! If you have questions, comments, or a potential guest suggestion please send a note to info@monkii.co or send us a DM to @monkii.co on Instagram. Let's keep the conversation going. Thanks for tuning in and if you are enjoying the episodes we would be eternally grateful if you could leave a 5-star review. It helps to grow the show and spread the good word of the Wild. Thank you. See you out there, -Wildman Dan www.monkii.co

David's focus is rightfully not on teaching you a formula to succeed but on constantly pushing you to think different.”“I highly highly recommend this podcast. Holy cow. I've been binge listening to these and you start to see patterns across all these incredible humans.”Listening to your podcast has changed my life and that is not a statement I make often.“After one episode I quickly joined the Misfit feed. In this episode I'm chatting with Ian Grech BFE, editor of the film '14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible', which is now available to watch on Netflix. With over 15 years of experience in Post-Production, Ian is an extremely sought-after Editor and Colourist. His work has been recognised by BAFTA, The Royal Television Society and The Primetime Emmy Awards, and has worked on projects such as 'Top Gear', along with a multitude of sports-related projects such as 'Adam Hills: Take His Legs', 'Beyond Human', and 'UEFA Champions League'.His latest work, '14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible', follows the fearless Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja aka "Nims", as he embarks on "Project Possible", a seemingly impossible quest to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in seven months. It was Ian's job to elaborate on the character of Nims to show the audience what makes him the man that he is and what his motivations were for completing such a life-threatening task.Throughout the editing process, Ian collaborated closely with director Torquil Jones to complete the challenging task of showcasing the trials and tribulations of each peak, whilst piecing together the hundreds of hours of footage in a way that was both exciting and true to the story.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. This week the Guff Guff Pass gang dives into the various dynamics of friendship and brotherhood that we've fostered over the years. It brings out various takes on the topics which could or could not be relatable to most but is definitely something we've pondered over once in our lifetime. We also tread through the recently released 14 peaks documentary and the legendary Nims Purja's feat in it. A personal account also follows of a member and their encounter with the man himself . On this podcast I talk with legendary mountaineer, athlete and ex special forces soldier Nims Dai. Nims has set multiple speed records in high altitude mountaineering. His most notable, climbing all of the 14 of the 8000m mountains in 6 months and 6 days, and this winter summiting the only unclimbed 8000 meter mountain in winter, K2. Hosted on Acast. On this week's episode we induct another member into our Adventure Badass Hall of Fame, with British explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes getting the nod. Before we run down the list of his accomplishments, we get updates from Mike Horn and Borge Ouslands polar traverse and we find out why Nims Purja is in hot water back in Nepal. Later, we share our gear picks for the week, with Dave recommending a backpack from Gecko, whiel Kraig shares shoe lights for night hiking and safer running.
Thanks to Dave's remote location and some techncial snafus, Kraig is flying solo this week. He updates listners on his recent excursion to climb Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, before diving deep into a few adventure news stories. This short episode offers updates on the current Antarctic expedition season, big new projects for Colin O'Brady and Fedor Konyukov, as well as the controversy currently surrounding Nims Purja.
